Today was a terrible day, I was upset and saw a booth for cupcakes at the Castro Valley Street Eats. Just what I needed, something sweet. The booth was super cute and each cupcake was individually boxed. They also had French Vanilla and Maple Bacon cupcakes, red velvet cookies, apple pie (only $5) and caramel squares (yum!!). I choose the Mocha one and boy was I surprised... I swear, this cupcake is one of the best I've ever had. The frosting was light and not too sweet, the cake was light and fluffy (chocolatey flavor too). Right now, I'm sitting here wishing I had bought a dozen to eat all myself...to eat my sorrows out with this delicious goodness. Final Thoughts: Next time I have an event in need of a cake (or even a company party).... and maybe my future wedding, I will definitely be calling Desserts First!! read more

I contacted Amanda a couple weeks prior to my daughter's birthday. Her communication was outstanding. She was happy to discuss my vision and provided me with options for my custom tea party sugar cookies. I was messaged promptly the morning of delivery and updated once the no contact delivery was made. The cookies were exactly as we had discussed with great attention to detail. Off the grid food trucks rotate at our friends' complex every Wednesday, and this week there were cupcakes! We couldn't decide, so we got one of each and split everything between 4 people because you only live once/hump day/*insert any other reason to go each a bunch of sugar on a random weekday*. I paid $66 for *2doz cookies* The cow and pig cookies and the numbers were the right size (the way it was decorated was good enough) but the letter, and stars were a tad smaller than I expected it to be. Though the colors were on point and it blended well with my theme. The taste is just okay - hit or miss. Not a lot of kids ate it at the party. Amanda made a super yummy and moist carrot cake smash cake for my boy's 1st bday. The party was circus themes and it came out soooo cute! She also made a chocolate cake for the rest of the folks to enjoy which was equally tasty. Everyone kept "awwwwwwww"-ing the cakes and everyone went back for seconds. Beyond just how cute the and yummy the cakes were, Amanda was so timely in her communications with me and with her helpful recommendations. I ordered the cakes about a week before and she was able to get them done whereas other bakeries told me I should have notified them two weeks to one month for custom cakes. I have had the pleasure of working with Chef Amanda Rose and the Desserts First crew on multiple occasions and they never disappoint. I originally met Chef Rose thanks to her involvement with the Chamber of Commerce and the Food Truck Mafia in Castro Valley. She was vivacious, personable, and so welcoming; she told me of the story behind her company name (a very touching story about her grandfather) and I was even more sold on supporting her small business...then I took a bite of her food and WOW! Such fresh flavor, such creativity, and you can really taste the love and heart that goes into every piece that's made. Almost immediately I put in a personalized order for some of my favorite bites to serve up at my family's annual holiday event and her food was gone in less than 90 minutes! I actually had to hide some cookies and cupcakes for myself just to enjoy after playing hostess! Since that first order, I've gladly become an ambassador for Desserts First and order for basically every special occasion! Chef Rose is so creative, talented, and I commend her for utilizing as many natural colors and ingredients as possible (i.e. you want pink frosting? She'll make it with fresh fruit first compared to the knee-jerk of food colorting!). I cannot say enough about Desserts First! I'm looking forward to ordering more and watching her business flourish! I met Desserts First at a wedding fair and tried their Swiss Buttercream which is amazing and I think the cake was mango. Flawless! Not too sweet, moist, perfect bite so I scheduled a tasting for wedding cakes. Scheduling is easy and online... but then they don't honor your appointment. I booked 3wks in advance a wedding cake tasting and Desserts First called me and we planned out about 12 flavors to try. I asked for the address right then and they put me off saying they move around, they'll send it later... etc red flags. Then, the week of the tasting they never confirmed or sent me the address. I called them for hours the day of the tasting and no one ever got back to me! Chasing someone I'm trying to pay hundreds of dollars to for something as important as a wedding cake is soo unprofessional and my appointment should have been enough. Ridiculous customer service and days later still not getting back to me or explaining why they flaked. Wasted my whole day on them calling multiple numbers for nothing and with my wedding in 7wks I wouldn't trust these guys to show up anyway so I'm not even going to attempt giving them another shot. I am reviewing my experience during the pick up of my order and not the cake. I haven't yet tried the cake and hoping it tastes great for my husband's birthday. I was scheduled for a cake pick up today and arrived at the home address stated on the email from Kim. Upon arrival, there were no noticeable signs that there was a Desserts First business, so I wasn't sure if I had the right house but I rang the doorbell anyway. The front door opened and a Man was at the door with the porch screen closed. I was expecting Kim at the door, so I asked for her and he said she wasn't home. I then went to my phone to confirm I had the right address and he said yes. Then I asked is this Desserts First, and he said oh you're here for a cake, hold on. A few minutes later Kim came out with my cake and it was fine from there. If you're going to have a home business where people are allowed to pick up cakes at your home and you provide your address to customers, just try and not to make it uncomfortable and greet your customers without pre-judging them. It was the most awkward experience of someone lying that Kim wasn't home when I was supposed to pick up my order. Yes...I am African American if you all were wondering. read more

I have hired them in the past and never had to worry about the end result so I felt confident that it would be fabulous....And it was!! Desserts First made the most amazing birthday cake for our daughter's 8th birthday. Amanda went above and beyond with the Unicorn Cake that they created. Our daughter has an allergy to food dyes and Amanda created a completely dye free cake using fruit to color the frosting. Went to CV Street Eats but the only thing looking good was the Cupcake Booth by "Desserts First" ! I don't know the name of the young lady running the well decorated booth but I can say that her cupcakes were pretty darn good! I paid for 4 and it came to $10.00 I think she gave me a discount for repeat customer or that was the actual price and I feel I got a great deal.
