I'm so happy I was able to stop by after having them on my list for a while. As soon as we walked in, it smelled so good. There are different cupcake flavors, slices of cake, and Bundt cakes too! After 5pm, there's a special discount on some items. I ordered the Reese's Bundt cake and it was moist, decadent, and flavorful. It isn't super rich either. The service was friendly and welcoming.

Got the death by chocolate and 24 carrot cake slices delivered the other day. The carrot cake was delicious - not too sweet, just as I like it. It had walnuts and pecans too if I'm not mistaken which gave a good crunch and nuttiness to the cake. The chocolate cake was a classic spongy moist cake with cream glaze which was on the sweeter side. Would like to see a dark chocolate version of the glaze with the same cake - that'd be ideal for those of us who prefer a more intense chocolate cake. All in all loved the cake slices! Will try more flavors soon ...

Came here for the first time and ordered 3 cupcakes for $12 since it was after 3 pm and thus an extra 20% off. We ordered the vampire (red velvet), pumpkin spice, and the birthday cake cupcakes. The cupcakes were perfect. The breading was not too sweet while the frosting was very creamy while also not being too sweet. Everyone was a fan of the cupcakes and we would definitely return. Some of the best cupcakes we've had so far!

I was pleasantly surprised to meet Baker Max himself on a Saturday, about an hour before closing so cupcakes were 20% off! He's super chill and friendly. My past few visits to downtown Hayward were on Sundays and they're closed that day (& Monday). I was stoked to stop by and try a few cupcakes. The shop itself is spacious with indoor seating to enjoy treats. They had 13 cupcake flavors, bundts, mini cheesecakes, tres leches, cake pops, and a nice three layer champagne toast cake slice. Flavors: Mint n Chip The MAC Churro Oreo German Chocolate Salted Caramel Strawberry Shortcake S'mores Lemon Banana Split Burnt Almond 24 Carrot Cafe de Olla I got mint n chip & the MAC-- soo good! I kinda expected the mint chip cake to be chocolate but it was a white cake base with a hint of green plus light mint flavor. The frosting was bright green like grasshopper green loaded with chocolate chips and fudge drizzle. The cake was light in texture. The MAC had sweeter icing and caramel flavor. The cake was chocolatey for sure. Chopped macadamia pieces up top kept it nutty and almost tropical. I wish I'd gotten a slice of the champagne toast cake! Hopefully they'll have it next time. Swing on by to satisfy your sweet tooth and meet awesome owner Max!

Gorgeous display. Love how the place is decorated for Halloween, will have to come back for the holidays to check out their store decor. They have a buy 5 get 1 free cupcakes so I ended up with 6 different flavors. Cupcakes were moist and delicious. Flavors I ended up getting were red velvet, toffee crunch, hummingbird, burnt almond, salted caramel and the Halloween special Dracula. I'm biased towards salted caramel so have to say that was my favorite. Will be back.

Let me start with: this place is a no-brainer and worth every penny. If you're thinking about ordering a cake, do it. If you're still not sold, here's more about my experience: I recently ordered and picked up a cake from Max's Cakes. I was so blown away by the whole experience from start to finish. I walked in about 2 week before I needed the cake - little did I know this place is SUPER busy and most people are placing cake orders months in advanced. I showed them a cake from their IG, but it ended up being way out of my budget. At that point, I was ready to leave. Then I met the owner, and he was so accommodating, professional, and willing to work within my budget. I placed my cake order and purchased two cupcakes, which were so unique and delicious. Fast forward two weeks: I picked up the cake, and it was more beautiful than I was expecting. I knew I was going to come back due to their phenomenal customer service alone, but the cake was also such a hit.

I met Max on a Saturday at 10am. Was surprised he was the owner/baker and there to answer all questions with such passion and enthusiasm. Come to find out he's literally in his 20 s and won the food network "big time bake" competition as the youngest award winner. So great to see such passion and talent in young people. Too bad I was too busy being an idiot in my 20's! I ordered 12 cupcakes (it was buy 5 get one free). All the cupcakes were amazing and most importantly they were not too sweet! The cupcakes were moist and fresh. The toppings were well thought out and you can tell they were made with care. My favorites were the salted caramel, Dracula, red velvet and coconut, but they were all delicious! We will be ordering custom cakes next!

Thank you Max for this beautiful cake

We wanted to order a cake from a local family owned business. Max's cakes is what I found. I went in a few times before to purchase cupcakes to decide on flavor of cake. We finally chose their strawberry shortcake flavor. What stood out to us was that the cake was light and fluffy and the buttercream filling had real strawberries. We chose to have it delivered to the restaurant where we had our event. Delivery fee was reasonable, service from the start was great, communication was clear. The cake was INCREDIBLE! Family and friends raved about it. One family who flew in from another country said the cake was worth the whole trip lol! Will definitely purchase from them again.

    Mini Tres Leches

The place is so cute inside and the selection is really good (cake slices, cupcakes, cake pops etc )! I tried the mini tres leches cake and it was bomb! Glad it was travel size cause you never know when you're gonna crave a slice of cake lol. Need to come back soon :)

Excellent cakes. Perfect balance and not overpowering sweet where you can't taste the type of cakes you are eating. Burnt Almond cake - their most popular cake. The flavor reminded me a little bit of WholeFoods Chantilly cake, just a little and just the cake, not the frosting. And it came with some caramel slice crunchy almonds instead of Berries. Carrot cake - really good, probably my favorite. It is very hard to find a good carrot cake that is not overly sweet. Death by Chocolate cake - I love love dark chocolate, the lesser the sugar, milk and other junks, the better. This is not quite dark but it was good. The frosting- 2 of out 4 family members loved it. The other 2 agreed that it was a little too sweet and I am the one of the 2. Ok, I am not complaining, I just moved the frosting away from my cake. lol Peanut Butter cookies - Very Peanut buttery and not as sweet and doughy. Highly recommended.

Order the ube cheesecake, butter toffee cookie, and a assam milk tea with boba. The order came out quickly. Ube Japanese cheesecake is tasty, not too much ube taste. It is super light and moist, love how it is not too sweet. For the assam milk tea, I prefer it with more tea flavor. The drink was ok, the matcha drinks look better. The butter toffee cookie was the best, it was flavorful, the toffee has added toasted nutty flavor with some sugar. I would get a box full. Overall, has a great variety of baked goods.

It's in a corner of a very cute gourmet food hall and had a good selection of goods left in mid-afternoon on a weekday. Service is also friendly and prompt. I had to get the kouign amann because I always get one wherever I can, and also picked up a plain croissant, currant scone, and panna cotta. The KA was decent; I would call this one a diet KA because they only put the sugar on one side so it was more like a brulee'd croissant. I also have to admit that, while this shaping is very attractive, the direction of the lamination makes eating this feel like shards in my mouth. However, flavor was excellent. The plain croissant is very plain. It's decent but I've had better. The scone and panna cotta, however, were delightful. Both had lovely soft textures and wonderful creamy flavors. The scone held up for two days and wasn't even a bit stale when I finally had it for breakfast. Highly recommend this tucked-away bakery in the Castro Valley!

Seven Hills Baking Co was my first stop as I haven't had sourdough since childhood. I got their classic sourdough loaf. Even though it wasn't warm anymore it was still amazing. It was quite hard to cut into with a serrated bread knife, which I'm not sure whether that's normal or abnormal for gluten sourdough. However, the inside was lovely and soft. Nice strong sour flavor, spongy dough that was almost moist (not at all dry). I want to note on the gluten free front that seven hills baking co offers a few items which they advertise to be gluten free. Though the ingredients may be gluten free, the items are baked in the same kitchen, the same oven, and then put side by side with the gluten in the display case. Furthermore I don't believe their ingredients are all certified gluten free. Therefore I do not recommend seven hills baking co for anybody with celiac disease. Do not buy your friend with a gluten allergy or celiac these items. There is most certainly cross contact.
