I've been on a support local business kick and after reading about Destenny's in a couple of local write ups, I kept her in mind. I was contemplating a sundae. I'm currently boycotting that national pink and brown chain with the number of flavors for some extraordinarily rude service in the neighboring town. I had currently supported a local ice cream shop over in El Portal and was satisfied. I didn't want to go that far so I remembered Destenny's which is near where I live. Quaint small shop. Kudos for re-imagining a small space for a local business. Not many flavors but a good quality product in Mitchell's. The lady was very nice in making my split. She went out of her way to accommodate my need to transport my split in a container. My only issue is the split and a Red Bull came to $20 (plus apparently $1.50 for using a card). I didn't trip and immediately paid it. Now the split was awesome. But I got home and was like waiminute...$20?? The split from the other local place was $9 plus tax. The chain woulda been $7 plus. Was the split $15 and the Red Bull $5? Was the split $10 and the Red Bull $10. Ironically, I was contemplating going to Safeway and getting the fixings myself but ultimately decided naw, I don't need to spend that much, plus remember, we're supporting local. I'm originally from SF and when I first saw that there was a place to get my favorite ice cream I couldn't pass up on it. I love taking my parents to get their favorite flavors of ice cream without having to go far!! Always come here for some good sweet treats. I always get the Classic Mangonada and my wife gets 1 scoop of Cookies and Cream and 1 Scoop of Strawberry. I've been to Portumex several times simply because they make a very solid menudo, and I don't have to wait for the weekend to get it. On one such hopeful occasion, I was dismayed to find Portumex closed. Instead of roaming 23rd Street in a futile attempt to find back-up menudo, I sauntered next door to this compact and rather packed ice cream shop. I was thrilled to discover they serve Mangonada. I love coming to this place in Richmond. I enjoy the welcoming environment and the kindness of the employees working there. This is a amazing place to stop by if you have the munchies, looking for a new place to try sweet and snacks, and to stop by. There is a menu of various selections. Best customer service!! Destenny is so kind! I usually get the mangoneandas and I gotta say they are sooo good! I've gotten both shaved Ice w/ ice cream & all ice cream and it's sooo good! Me and my friend drove all the way here from SAN FRANCISCO to try this place out. When we had got there the doors were locked and we had tried calling multiple times, no response. I really hate to do this but I feel like I have to. I really believed in this business at first because they were so sweet and nice when me and my friend came there our first times and I thought why not support a local business ykno? I had ordered my birthday cake from them in advance. First red flag should've been me always chasing after her to confirm my order. I didn't think much of it because I know she could be busy.. but to be honest it got to a point where I wish she could've just let me know she couldn't do it so I could've ordered from someone else and plan ahead accordingly. I probably reached out to her 10 times and no I'm not exaggerating. She would reply and then I wouldn't hear from her for days to week. And then finally it was the day of my birthday and the day I pick up my cake. I'll post the inspo pic so you guys can see what it should look like. Second red flag is that I had to reach out to her again even 15-20 mins after the said pick up time. She let me know it was ready and so I asked for a picture since I was so excited and guys I was speechless.... please let me know if as a business owner yourself you would consider that as a sellable product to your customer (see pics) I asked her if she can fix the lettering and to be honest if she can fix the cake overall.. as you guys can see the lettering looks like a 3 year old did it and the bows look stained.. the cake also looks like it's about to melt the second you take it out of the box. The gold pearls looks yellow. The cake just looks like it was rushed.. It was such a mess. Mind you this was for my birthday and been looking forward to it! at the end I think she got offended because I asked her to fix the cake and pretty much told me no cake for you and sent me the refund. Also to add on, she was selling this cake for $150... didn't even accommodate me for a discount or to fix it. I was so stressed out because it was too late to order another cake somewhere else..
