The cabin we rented was massive and everything was great except the fridge didn't work. With a bunch of us here, not having a fridge was going to be a huge problem. We called the office and tech joe was over pretty quickly with a loaner fridge that we could use. They had to haul the fridge up 2 flights of stairs to get it into the kitchen. He wasn't even phased and was happy with making the delivery. Now the the fridge not working was a pretty big issue if you ask me and should have been addressed before we checked in. But tech Joe being so professional and nice made us all forget about the broken fridge. read more

Everyone was super helpful , Simon helped me book the cabin "Snowed In" it was perfect, super cute and cozy VERY clean , walking distance to Octoberfest . So if you plan on staying here I suggest you buy some, since the restrooms(3)need trash bags also! Shower upstairs in master room has low water pressure so it took me forever to shower!The couches smelled bad including the blankets on them & there were food crumbs behind the pillows! Bed sheets smelled dirty, including pillow covers! carpet needs good cleaning! No dust pan, vacuum or mop for cleaning, since they want everything cleaned after (only broom). Only one chimney turned on. Only convenient thing from cabin was the location since there's activities around and stores, including cabin a/c. read more

Initially, I would've rated Destination Big Bear 4 stars (removed one star since customer service is unresponsive -- left a voicemail about the power being out and never got a return call. Not exactly ideal when it's night). The house was in a great location and was spacious, but was obviously not cleaned in awhile as there were dead insects all over the floors (upstairs and downstairs). I have no issues with bugs and just swept them up. My major issue is when Destination Big Bear submitted a claim a week after my stay and tried to charge me $200 for carpet cleaning for stains not caused by my stay. The kicker is that we only used one room and they tried to claim that stains in the unused bedroom were caused by me -- unreal. Luckily, Airbnb performed a thorough investigation and determined that I was not liable for these charges. I certainly won't be using Destination Big Bear in the future because of their customer service not returning calls and for the ridiculous claim that their carpet was stained during my stay (in a room that WASN'T used no less!). Update: After multiple email reminders they finally found the lost item. The housekeeper had picked it up but it seems he/she failed to report the lost item. Despite me notifying Destination Big Bear of the lost item they didn't appear to reach out to the housekeeper themselves to ask if the lost item was found. Now the company gives someone only 30 days to claim a lost item without any services (paid or not) to ship lost items. Overall a very negative experience! read more

I used Destination Big Bear for our last trip. We stayed a whole week and had a spectacular time! From start to finish, everything was super easy and convenient. The check-in was super simple. We just headed straight to the cabin. We stayed at Pinehurst Lodge, which was perfect! This was the most stocked, family and pet friendly cabin we have ever been to, and we stay at Big Bear often. We never stay at the same cabin twice just because there are so many choices, but I would do this one again. Destination Big Bear was super easy to communicate with by text, and their rates are much better than VRBO. I highly recommend them! read more

I booked with Destination Big Bear this past weekend. I was excited to see the home we picked in person because it looked beautiful in photos (Mountain Lodge View). First thing I noticed when we arrived was there was no way 4 cars could park in that parking area, good thing we downsized and only took 3. When we walked in, I was surprised with how hot it was inside the home since it felt so nice outside, but there were some fans in the home and it helped some. I noticed the majority of the blinds were broken or falling off. We brushed it off and decided to just open them up and get the view. The carpets in nearly every bedroom had stains all over. We brushed it off and figured there was nothing we could do about it. I was then told by other family members that they saw cockroaches in the kitchen. GROSS!! How are there cockroaches after we paid a $250 cleaning fee?! We brushed this off also and didn't let it affect our weekend. Everything seemed okay up until Sunday morning when my family was telling me about some of the things they saw/heard. I was informed that there were 2 bats inside the home on Saturday night, 1 bat still inside the home on Sunday morning (before we checked out), and was told they heard noises on Friday night but thought it was a critter outside. It is now clear this was also a bat. I called Destination Big Bear about this issue and was told they would send maintenance out to deal with the bat. I then asked if anything would be done for me since I did not ask for bats when I booked. They then proceeded to say it was my fault because I must have left a door open. When I explained that we did not leave any doors open, I was then told that I must have left a window open. I explained that the windows were left open because it was so hot in the house BUT all the windows have screens on them. They then said that there must be a broken screen in the home that allowed the bat(s) to enter the home. When I said that is the owner's fault and no fault of my own, they still refused to compensate me for any trouble this had caused. I attached photos that show the bat fly into a crevice in the ceiling, not an open door, open window, or broken screen like I was accused of. They promised me someone from the "resolutions team" would be in touch with me regarding the issue. Nobody has been in touch with me. Plus, they still have my $800 deposit. I was planning to book with another agency but Destination Big Bear was $300 cheaper and I wanted to save that money. Boy, do I wish I had gone with my gut and booked with the other agency. Destination Big Bear are scammers and I will never book with them again. I advise you to do the same. If I could've given 0 stars, I would have. read more

When I called to ask about it, Nan the representative had told me that our cabin didn't have one included:( Luckily for us our girl Nan did everything above n behind to actually get one for us and the cabin. We booked with them this past weekend. After finding ants all in the kitchen and in our food they didn't seem to concerned about our issues. I contacted them at 2pm on Friday and they were still there at 5pm the next evening. I finally got someone to drop traps off, they said they weren't allowed to spray the house while guests are staying there. The traps didn't do much help and we had ants our whole stay. The ants got in all of our food, even after moving it to another location. We kept having to clean the ants up and move our food around, which we ended up having to throw a ton of our food away because the ants got in them. The maintenance department told me they didn't cover "wildlife issues and that unfortunately those things happen!" There was a hammock with no hammock which was shown in the pictures. I text them asking if there was a hammock and they did not respond. The fridge and freezer barely kept our food cold. All of our stuff melted in the freezer. The only good thing was the house had a beautiful view. read more

I've stayed with Destination Big Bear 3 times. Unfortunately after my last experience I'll never book with them again. It's been nearly 3 weeks and they still have not issued the return of my $975 deposit. I spoke with the manager, Amber, who was extremely rude about this. I asked her to send me proof they issued they deposit. She said she would send me that document but did not. I told her my bank has no record of them sending me that deposit as she claimed. She then yelled at me and said "well we did send it" and hung up on me. This is unacceptable. They keep changing their story. They refuse to provide me with proof they sent my deposit or to even issue me a check for the amount. read more

Our stay started good enough. Got an email saying that we could check in early. So we headed over to the office to get the code for the key box for Moose Creek ( I think that was the name of the cabin, It's on Georgia ). So we get to the cabin to get settled in. Wanted to sit down and relax for awhile from the drive up. Go to turn on the TV and nothing.. Called the office and they sent someone out. Before he got there I figured I would hit the Jacuzzi, BIG MISTAKE! I uncovered the jacuzzi to find it filthy! There was a thick white film on top, the water was so cloudy you couldn't see the bottom and there was lost of stuff floating and being blown around by the jets. So their guy arrives for the TV and by that time we had figured out that the batteries in all the remotes were dead. We had some so we replaced them. I told their guy we had the TV problem fixed but he needs to address the jacuzzi. He told us to call the office so they could send someone out to clean it.. So I did and spoke to a very nice female that assured me that someone would be out today ( Wednesday )... As of Friday when we checked out no one ever came to clean the jacuzzi. Now our first day didn't start out very well so we decided to grill some steaks. Headed to the back yard area and it was dirty as well, piles of old leaves against the wall, beer bottles and other debris as well.. So I turn on the grill and had to let it heat up for awhile so I could clean the grills of what looked like months of burnt meat...My wife made some pasta and veggies while I was cooking the meat. By the time the steaks were done the counter next to the stove was covered in ants. At that point I was just done with this place.. We should have read the reviews on this cabin before booking it.. We called Destination Big Bear the moment we arrived and spoke with Austin, he was very professional and understanding. Linked us to Tristan and we were able to look at other options to replace that terrible rental. We ended up in the California Dreamin' cabin and honestly, it saved the trip. Our moods changed instantly and the home was amazing and beautiful. So nice we would love to stay in it again! Great customer service and all around amazing weekend thanks Austin and the team. We had an issue with the gas burner leaking gas. The knob was broken and would just keep turning in circles and we were having a hard time trying to turn the gas off. We called the office and they said it was very busy, but they'd get someone here right away. Less than 15 minutes Tom S showed up. He checked all the burners and we showed him the knob. He took the knob off and found someone had stuffed the toilet paper in it to keep it on. He left to find a knob that would work. He returned shortly with a new knob that would work until he could order the correct one. He was great!! We really appreciated him and his responsiveness. We rented a cabin through Destination Big Bear for a 3 night stay. The website was sort of challenging as you aren't able to directly look up your reservations even after logging in. The only purpose for creating a login is so they have your email. Prior to our stay, I read reviews about the Cloud 9 cabin we were to stay in that reported many serious problems. I asked the Destination Big Bear agents about the problems and they assured me they had been taken care of and would not be an issue during our stay. They lied. None of the problems had been taken care of. The worst of those was the filthy hot tub with too low water level. It was really gross and we couldn't use it which is sad because it's the main reason we booked that cabin. The biggest problem with Destination Big Bear is that after our stay, I wrote a detailed review of the Cloud 9 cabin, as I do after any rental stay. Since I rely on reviews, I like to be thorough. I asked how to post it to their website. They said to send it to them so I did. After sending it, Heather from Destination Big Bear said they would NOT be posting it because they didn't think it was fair to the hosts for me to state what I "think" could be better. I was amazed. As if all reviews aren't about what guests "think" about the property. They also complained that I hadn't brought up the issues during my stay giving them a chance to rectify the situation. That's untrue. I WENT INTO THEIR OFFICE and told them that the steps were iced over leading into the cabin and leading to the hot tub in the back (we hadn't yet looked at the hot tub.) The ice was too thick to remove with the plastic shovel at the cabin and too dangerous to walk on safely. They said they would try to send out a maintenance man, but that he was very busy. No one ever showed up and 4 out of the 6 people in our group slipped and fell due to the icy steps. Once we saw the disgusting hot tub, it would have been pointless to report it because it could not have been drained and refilled and heated within the 3 days we were there, and they did nothing about the icy steps so why would we think they would do anything about the hot tub? This tells me that Destination Big Bear is only posting the most glowing of reviews which will never give you an accurate picture of the kind of place you will be renting. My review was NOT overly critical. It was honest and pointed out the many good things about the cabin, along with the things that need improving and the things that are very bad. Destination Big Bear cares more about their hosts than they do about their guests and I guess that makes sense because they have longer lasting relationships with them. My point is, DO NOT BELIEVE REVIEWS POSTED ON THEIR SITE. If there is something wrong, they will not post it. Most of the reviews for this company say how the guest was blamed for not reporting the problems immediately as if it is our fault that we don't want a cleaning crew showing up during a short vacation and taking time away from a family get together! This would have been a semi okay listing if we didn't find hidden cameras in our cabin. No resolution came from Destination Big Bear or Airbnb, which is where we booked it. Surface cleanliness was okay, the cabin definitely needed a deep clean. DBB charges a pretty high amount for cleaning fees; when I pay out for a high cleaning fee I expect things to be very clean. That was definitely not the case. The hot tub was pretty gross. It didn't look so bad at first, after getting in we were accosted by a ton of bubbles from build up I'm guessing. After exiting everyone that went in was completely itchy. Dishes weren't completely clean and the dishwasher had a disgusting weird smell. Cameras were found in all of the private living areas and bedrooms except for bathrooms. In the dining room cameras were found and in the living room as well. Cameras were also found outside of the cabin facing our cabin from the cabin next to us. Very creepy. The cabin also had multiple spaces that were locked, which wouldn't have been as creepy if there weren't hidden cameras. Now we're left wondering what was in them, more recording devices ? Would not suggest booking any of their cabins after what we found. Airbnb's policy for cameras is that the property must disclose all information regarding use of these devices and completely prohibit's use of them in any private spaces regardless if they are disclosed or not. We have picture and video evidence. We have not received any follow up, refund, or explanation regarding the situation and are currently in the process of taking legal action. 10/10 wouldn't do it again. **UPDATE** After about a week, we've gotten communication from DBB showing that what we thought to be cameras were sensors of some sort. This did not change our experience. Their communication is sub par and so was our stay. Here's their communication (in the form of a personal review of me as a tenant LOL) and my response. All I have to say is if you have any issues at all with your stay good luck! The management team is unprofessional and slow. *** THEIR RESPONSE** Unfortunately we can not in good conscious recommend this tenant. Initially we thought that the stay went well for them. Check in was a breeze, no reported issues during the stay, and they left the house in a manageable state. It wasn't until a day after they checked out that we suddenly got a request for a full refund claiming that we had hidden cameras through out the entire house. This came to us as a little bit of a shock since the stay went off with no complaints and normally we would had gotten some form of communication when a tenants finds an item they believe to be a camera. We politely asked her for photos of the "cameras" and she sent us some photos of the night lights and of our emergency light that was there incase of a power failure followed up with "the rest of the photos will be saved as evidence for court". We notified her that these were nothing more than lights even going as far as sending one of the listings we purchased from. She replied with nice try, sent us a screen shot of a random online listing that doesn't even resemble the night light that she took a picture of, and then said see you in court. After that message we have ceased our communications with her due to the constant legal threats and the unfriendly manner in which she was messaging us. Airbnb did reach out to us in regards to Aishya's claims and confirmed that we were not in any violation of their terms of service after we presented the information about the night and emergency lights. It would have taken her all of a couple minutes to look up square nightlights or even a quick phone call to our office to get this matter resolved before it ever became a problem, but she did not communicate to us that there was potential problem until after her stay which usually means they are looking for something back. Hopefully her future stays go better, but it seems like she will look for anything to get a free stay. Destination Big Bear, Big Bear Lake, CA **** MY RESPONSE *** Hi, this is actually not true. We did not find the night lights until the last night when we were going through the cabin to clean it according to the very particular check out rules provided (we weren't sure why there was such a high cleaning fee if you have to clean everything yourself, especially when the cabin wasn't well cleaned in the first place though we did not complain), we reached out via telephone on the emergency line provided and did not receive a response. There were multiple issues with the cabin, though most weren't major so we honestly let them all slide. That was our first mistake. Cleanliness of the cabin was sub par. The dishwasher smelled terrible, there were dirty dishes in the cabinets, and the hot tub was extremely dirty and bubbling up to all hell with foam. Our check-in experience with Destination Big Bear was a total disaster. We checked-in at the office (which was required) to get the code for the lockbox, and then drove the 15 minutes to get to the cabin. The steep 85 foot long driveway was completely snowed in and inaccessible. (We arrived on the night of the 30th. It hadn't snowed in two days). You can get a picture of how long the driveway is from the photos. We hiked up the driveway and opened the lockbox to find no key inside. Calling the front office, we were asked to drive all the way back down the hill to get a spare set of keys. After a long drive to get to Big Bear, this was the last thing we wanted to do. We informed the employee at the office about the driveway & she asked if there was a shovel at the property. I told her I had no idea since we couldn't get into the house. Is it really the guest's responsibility to shovel a driveway 1/3 the length of a football field upon arrival? It would have taken hours. The employee assured us she'd order a plow to come take care of the driveway (but also gave us a shovel in case it took awhile). The plow never arrived that night. We had to carry all of our belongings / food / suitcases from the street up the massive driveway through the snow / ice. I slipped and fell pretty hard onto a bundle of wood I was carrying. It's a miracle I didn't crack a rib. Since our cars couldn't make it up the driveway, one car was parked at the bottom of the driveway and the other had to be parked (illegally) on the side of the road. There were signs in town warning we'd be towed for this so I was relieved to see my car still there in the morning. I contacted the office again in the morning and they finally got a plow out to the house a few hours later. This was a pretty rotten start to our vacation. A rental company should take better care in ensuring a rental is ready for guests upon arrival (we should be able to get into the house, our cars shouldn't be blocked from parking on the property). These are really basic items. We paid a LOT of money to stay at this property (inflated holiday prices) and these were not minor issues. On top of all that, the lights in the kitchen didn't work which made cooking after dark difficult. But hey, the view was great. I wrote Destination Big Bear upon our return, hoping they cared about addressing any of this. I got a response "We appreciate your feedback and have sent your message to management who will follow up with you in regards to your issues." That was 12 days ago. Maybe they're waiting until it's too late for me to write a review about the experience. Maybe they just don't care. Either way, I'll be avoiding Destination Big Bear for future trips. They have near monopoly on cabins in Big Bear but they're not the only game in town. read more
