Even though Dave probably wanted to go home, he stayed open 2 hours past closing for us! [Location] Pretty much a block from downtown and right across from the Lodge at Big Bear Lake. They have a huge parking lot even though we didn't utilize it being we were walking distance to the Lodge. Plus, no drinky, no drivey! Great view of the lake too. They bought the property in February and opened recently. Still setting up some landscaping. I have reviewed this stay as a soft-open. Loved my room on the second floor of a standalone four-room cabin. Small, well designed, and well fitted. Every appliance is easy to use. There is a Roku remote control. I am the first person ever to stay in this room! Fun squirrels everywhere. It is built on a hillside with good steps and ramps. The entrance from the road had a steep slope that could be challenging in icy conditions. The owners are working on these issues: 1. The guest portal uses a web portal that did not always work well for me. Could not check in online from my iPhone; my VPN blocked it. I had to use a desktop browser. The portal then gave me the password for the keypad on my door but did not send me my room number. 2. There was not enough bandwidth to stream the Roku free movie that I tried to watch on the TV. 3. Unclear if the historic Mansion (from 1920) was open to guests. It was not clear to me where some attractions were, but the owners will provide signage.

She greeted us with a big smile, and every time we walked by, she made sure we had everything we needed. That level of care really stood out. The next day when I checked out, there were two ladies at the front desk who were also super sweet and helpful. Every staff member we interacted with made us feel welcomed. I also want to shout out the cleaning staff! There was a housekeeping lady who was constantly working. Every time we saw her, she was cleaning non-stop, yet still took the time to smile and say hello. You can tell the staff here really takes pride in what they do. Overall, the staff is incredibly friendly, and that made our stay even better. I will definitely be coming back! The only downside is that the walls seem a bit thin. We received a noise complaint even though we were just talking at a normal volume, and the neighbors even started banging on the wall, which was frustrating. Aside from that, it's a great place and I would still recommend it!

We had a mixed bag of adventures at Camp Nawakwa. Lol…read more There were a wide variety of activities and we had a camp staff to lead us in each. We loved the nature hike we had "Jelly" (a couple of our groups got rained out-obviously to no fault of the camp), we enjoyed archery, paint ball sling shots with "Stitch", painting wood necklaces, drama circle, and an amphitheater with breathtaking views of the the sunset. We loved our hike to the lake for canoeing. I too thought the pool was chilly but it was clean! Their swim rules seemed to be really intense to me. "No jumping off the edge of the pool" hmmm ok. In my opinion overly cautious. However, the Rock wall was a blast, equipment was in good condition. Hatchet throwing was hard, but fun. I wish the hatchets were sharp enough to grab the wood. It was rare anyone stuck one into the log rounds. Some combination of wood being too hard or axes not balanced correctly made that activity a struggle. We enjoyed trying. The team building activities were thoughtful and stretched our girls as individuals and forced team unity. Maybe my favorite part of all of camp. They lost a star for food quality and portions but the staff was always in good spirit. I also wish our group had the entire cafeteria to ourselves as we often were low on space at tables and often went outside as our designated seating was full. But the food was served on time and they got a lot of people food in timely fashion. They were organized. Our cabins were dry when it rained and i felt safe from the elements and wildlife that can live nearby. Some mattresses were thicker than others. I was comfortable enough for a week of camping. The plumbing struggled at times but not sure that was the camps fault or the 85 GIRLS who MAY have not disposed of things properly. Lol Overall I think with some retraining on camp cooking and a minor tweak here and there this would be a 5 star camp. The location was beautiful. The staff was friendly. The activities were super fun!

Honey, you're a maid, you clean up kid vomit and all sorts of nasty stains on beds and you're complaining to the manager who somehow has the audacity to complain to me about a little glitter? Do your freaking job and don't whine about it like a little girl. Manager is also never in office (I checked, many times) and texts you 15 times when you arrive to get your check in time to the minute because he doesn't want to hire help (too cheap) and wants to know the exact 5 minutes he'll have to be at the front desk. Bugs in room, scorpions and cockroaches. Disgusting, dated hotel. Not dated in the cute, vintage way. Manager will try to be nice and go out of your way at first if you act nice but it's all a ruse, none of it is sincere, and he wants nothing more to see you gone and never see you again. Noise is a problem too, all you hear is the main road, it's right off it, good luck getting any peace or sleep. Terrible beds. Worst motel I've stayed at in years and I travel frequently- you'll find many in third world countries that are nicer. Literally save yourself and book ANYWHERE else.
