My girlfriend and I tried to come here a few weeks ago but the doors were locked 15 minutes after opening time so we left, so we decided to try again! We got 2 cold brews and 2 almond croissants, the total was a little over $20. The cold brew was excellent and the croissants were pretty good, but we both agreed $20 was a little steep for what you get when Kaldi's down the street is a little cheaper and better in my opinion. Detour Coffee is a very walkable distance from where I live. I stopped by last Friday for an evening coffee after dinner. The interior is very homey and well decorated. They use beans from Vigilante Coffee (based in Hyattsville, MD). A cortado with oat milk was close to 6.00, which is not worth it, IMO. The espresso was a lighter roast which was fruity, but I felt like it was a bit burnt and underwhelming. Overall, 3/5, but will bump it to a 4/5 for the interior and ambiance. I'll come back to try other drinks and food before giving it a proper rating. read more

This is place is such an underrated gem in Arlington. Tucked next to a Jiffy Lube, you wouldn't expect much from the outside but this place has amazing atmosphere and ambiance. Inside the decor is quirky and the outdoor patio place is a comfortable place to gossip on a Sunday morning. The staff is very friendly and helpful. As a regular I've noticed that the staff has all been there awhile and seem to genuinely enjoy working at Detour. I've never had something that I did not like here. If I had to pick my "Mount Rushmore" of menu items I would recommend: the Birria and Eggs, the Bikini, Avocado Toast, and Detour Delight. read more

Came here to find a place to work remotely - and it checks out as a great place for this. My reasons? Fast WiFi, lots of space (and electrical sockets), and open late (until 8). This place is close to the metro and also has parking if you're driving. I came for coffee and tea and sadly couldn't stay for a meal but the breakfast and sandwich looked so good! My friend and I went on Sunday, and it was insanely packed! It was a little cold out, but the only available seating - so we sat on the patio. It was cute, but there were no heaters. They have a multitude of pastry options, but you HAVE to come early or else they will basically be out of most options. They have a brunch/breakfast menu to choose from as well. The croissant was delicious, but the vanilla latte I got was mediocre. The coffee tasted a little burnt, and could not really taste the vanilla flavor. They staff was all really nice, and they even had dairy-free milk options (for an extra cost of course). Would definitely want to come again for their food, but maybe not the drinks. read more

An interesting coffee shop, to say the least. A bit out of the way, so it's quite easy to miss. The lattes they serve here really hit the spot. I came here for a social event I was attending. I took the metro and jogged here from Virginia Square, the nearest one. There is some parking outside the spot, but I didn't bring my car so I skipped it altogether. Lines and wait are both reasonable enough. I ended up with the Campfire which is a specialty latte and comes with mocha and caramel flavors. I forgot to snap photos but it also comes with two semi-roasted marshmallows on sticks, placed on top of the cup just so; I thought they were a nice touch. The latte was pretty good, the marshmallows so-so. I also got a brownie because I saw it and thought to myself, why not let's indulge my sweet tooth a little; it was nothing special and bit overpriced honestly. But the Campfire latte was good, so I'll let it slide. The decor and ambiance was quaint and rather original -- for instance, they had three adjacent set of (different colored) doors hanging on the walls for display. Came here on a Saturday for breakfast and coffee. I ordered the old reliable but asked for it on a croissant. I also ordered a mocha. The sandwich was $10 and coffee $5.50 which J thought was reasonable. Sandwiches come with home style potatoes. I felt this coffee shop was average. Sandwich was good but nothing too unique just your average bacon egg and cheese. The coffee I felt was slightly weak and slightly sour. I've definitely had better coffee. The vibe of the place was great, 90s rock playing, booths and lounging chairs. The staff were super nice. Parking is a nightmare. They only have about 6-7 spaces so ended up having to parking about 2 blocks down on the street. Overall, i would say this place is average. Yesterday I made a last minute decision and added Detour Coffee to my coffee trail through Arlington. It turned out to be the best decision I made all day. First, I was warmly and energetically welcomed by the cashier. It was around 2pm. I should have asked her name but I forgot. She had a great smile and a contagious positive attitude. While ordering I happened to notice the Vigilante coffee and when I mentioned it the cashier was excited to talk about Vigilante. It was a great short conversation. The decor in the shop was inviting and unique. I ended up getting out of my chair to walk around and look at everything. The owners personalized every corner of the store, but it wasn't over done or gawky. There is outdoor sitting. It looked comfy and I bet you can bring your animal. It was way too cold to sit outside, but I'd like to come back and sit with my dog and enjoy coffee. The most important aspect is obviously the cortado. Of the four cortados I had yesterday, Detour's cortado was the very best. The milk to espresso ratio was perfect, it wa served at a great temperature with a wonderful velvety foam texture. I truly appreciate a great cortado and Detour Coffee Company certainly knows how to make one. read more

Detour is very close to North Side Social in Arlington but I've never noticed it before - it's a little hidden, but I'd definitely choose this place first. Usually finding good food, I go to Yelp.. Today we Stumbled on this gem while looking for "All Day Breakfast" options, and I must say, it definitely hit the spot! This cute and cozy coffee spot offered a variety of options, which certainly made it hard to choose. From the moment we entered to the time we left, you would have thought we were regulars.. the least to say.. the customer service was outstanding. My daughter had the everything bagel with bacon and eggs, my granddaughter had the Turkey Sandwich and I opted for the "Effin Rueben".. I must say everything was Delicioussss. Great for food, okay for coffee. My partner and I were pleasantly surprised to find that their sandwiches come with fries. We got the Mediterranean sandwich and a focaccia blt. I was a little underwhelmed on the foccacia (was a bit dry) but they were generous with the bacon :). Coffee was disappointing. I got a cappuccino that was definitely a latte and oddly enough the oat milk wasn't combining with the coffee. After sitting for a while it separated. Don't know what kind of oat milk they're using but it was strange. My partner got an americano which wasn't bad. I did enjoy the ambiance. They've got a good amount of seating inside and out. Came here several weeks ago and waited an hour for a falafel sandwich and a salad, after asking if it was almost ready the barista finally checked with the kitchen who didn't even have their printers on, after another 45~ minutes they gave me my order... and missed the salad. After driving back and getting my salad they refused to do anything for me and took down my number saying a manager would call me, fast forward over a month and 2 phone calls and they still haven't contacted me about it. The sandwich was mediocre, fries cold and soggy, and salad small and sad. This is the only negative review I've ever left any business but i felt this needed to be shared, if you made it this far I highly recommend you look for a different coffee shop in the area instead of going here. read more

It's important to have a reliable, go-to neighborhood coffee shop and for Arlington locals.....Detour Coffee is just that place! The coffee's good and the baristas know their craft. The vibe is open and the atmosphere is kind of eclectic with unique sitting spaces. This music is pretty chill and a great selection too. You walk in and immediately notice the high ceilings with exposed duct-work give this coffee shop an industrial kinda vibe, while booths, chalkboard menus and farmer's tables provide a bit of down-home charm. You'll also find a few other quirky details throughout the space like a Coffee cup chandelier, DC cityscape murals or the child-sized bicycles hanging suspended above the kitchen and pastry case. Menu highlights include vegan fare like Avocado toast, beluga lentil burger (topped with fresh mozzarella, greens, and dijonaise) and the more hearty kind of stuff which I like such as....double-stacked burgers and beef empanadas.....which are easy to grab and go. Last......Don't forget a hot, steaming cup of 'joe' or tea, and you're all set! I came here and had a regular dark coffee and double chocolate cookie!...All was a thumbs up!! The coffee was fresh and the cookie was moist and full of dense, chocolate flavor. This location is hard to notice unless you're looking for it, or found it on Yelp and realized its existence. It is wedged between the urgent care and the oil change place. I believe the hookah club upstairs is affiliated with this place, which also gets confusing when you're looking for the right door. Anyway, once you discover it exists, it is full of options. You can get substantial food, or nibbles. The drinks vary from alcoholic to non. The decor is elegant, which I think calls out that the association to their business upstairs. I greatly enjoyed their spicy potatoes with aoli. The spice wasn't too strong, but just enough to enjoy a slow creep. I additionally had wine. It was like going to a cafe to study (I was there working), but with a fanciness to it that's above Starbucks. I enjoyed this place a lot.
