What a gem of a place to go to on a really hot July 3rd. The A/C was working fabulous I came as part of a party of 10. We made our reservation a day or two in advance and when we got there the hostess led us to the second floor. The brunch menu has a myriad of pizza and salad and classic breakfast menu items to choose from. I remember when I was there there was a lunch special offer where you could have a half order of a salad with a side of your choice for a discounted rate so that was cool. TLDR happy hour is only at the bar and the food is good but service isn't. Came on mother's day and came early, before they were busy. When we made the reservation in advance, we called to ask if happy hour was everywhere or just at the bar; they said everywhere, so we booked a table. Plot twist, it's only at the bar / downstairs :))) We arrived 15 minutes early, so while they got our table ready, we ordered at the bar. 5 stars for the bartender. If I could review her, the host, and the happy hour prices in isolation, I would! They moved us upstairs, we sat down, and immediately saw the menus were different. We asked the gentleman bringing waters about happy hour and he sent the waiter over. The waiter, with about 2% helpfulness, shared that happy hour is only downstairs. I mentioned that we had called in advance to ask. We asked if it would be possible to have that menu or perhaps move. The conversation felt like pulling teeth. He said, with much dismissiveness, it was up to the host downstairs to move and if they had availability and left. (Fair, we move, he doesn't get his tip. An alternative? Give us the happy hour menu, still get your tip. Better yet, just be slightly helpful?) The host downstairs found us a table but shared it was booked at 6:15 so we needed to be in and out. It was no problem because we had arrived before 5 (early, remember?). Although, it took 15 minutes (I timed it!) for anyone to come bring waters or address us as their table. A little hard to operate with urgency when no one takes your order!! I got up, told the host stand, and they sent a server over, and he proceeded to come back all of three times. We also had to flag him down to get our check, while we sat with empty waters that were never once refilled. We had pizza, cod sliders, and half orders of aglio e olio pasta. The cod sliders were more breadding than fish, but the flavor was decent. The pasta was delicious. No five star Italian meal, but it hit the spot and the portion was plentiful. I didn't try the pizza but it was 12 inches, piping hot, and the two eating it couldn't finish it. The food came out quickly and hot. I think we spent under or just about $100 for four folks to have dinner + drinks, so the prices are really solid. Perhaps you get what you pay for though? Both of our male servers seemed annoyed to be dealing with us and mostly unhelpful. Noteworthy mention: there was a female server who was kind enough to bring us a brown paper bag for our to go box. There weren't a ton of brunch options so we all ended up getting pizza which turned out great. The smoked salmon was everyone's favorite but we also tried the brunch pizza and the Vermont pizza. Good spot in the Virginia Square/Clarendon area for a more up scale dining experience. I've been a few times now for work lunches and everyone is always happy with their meal. On my most recent visit I had the steak salad which was excellent so definitely recommend that! The turkey club and wood oven pizzas are also good. read more

Every time I go to Liberty Tavern, it's busy. Bar is full and so are the tables. The food is delicious. I haven't had anything that I wasn't happy with. The espresso martinis and bubbly rose are my favorite libations. Though I did mention that the bar is usually packed, service is hit or miss. There are times when my friend and I will sit with glasses empty trying to get someone's attention for a refill and we have waited 15-20 minutes. Was in town with a few coworkers for a business project, and we all stayed in the same hotel nearby. The Liberty Tavern is a beautiful restaurant located a few miles from historic Old Town Alexandria. We were welcomed by a super friendly hostess, waited about 15 minutes, and then got a table upstairs. We ordered drinks, which arrived quickly. My drink was strong...just the way I like it. No complaints here. We ordered the toast with tomato and the calamari appetizers. The toast was excellent: very crispy, and the tomato was fresh and refreshing. The calamari was delicious. The breading was perfectly seasoned with a bit of spice. That breading was money. I ordered the Beef Tagliata e Fritte. Let me be clear: I've never been a fan of hanger steak. I've had plenty of bad experiences with this cut of meat. However, these guys did a great job with it. It was tender, perfectly cooked to a medium rare, and well seasoned. Bravo! The fries were good, and the arugula was incredible. The peppercorn dressing was amazing. To say the least, I walked back to my hotel completely satisfied with this meal. Really 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up because it was pretty good. I met some friends here for lunch and had the tavern burger. It's a good burger, but smaller than expected. It was very well put together with a decently thick patty, but I would have much preferred a larger diameter than what was served. To put it in fast food terms, this burger has more of a Whopper Jr. footprint instead of that of a full-sized Whopper. There were plenty of fries, so no problem there. Ambiance was nice, as well a service. I don't live in the Clarendon area, but if I were to meet someone again for lunch, the Liberty Tavern would still make my list, but I'd be just as good looking for something different. I live close by the Liberty Tavern yet I've never been. I always notice people sitting outside enjoying the food so I'm not sure why it took so long for me to try. I came for happy hour with a few friends as a party of 5. I had the Dude 10 inch pizza and then snacked on appetizers with my friends. These included the fried calamari, Brussels sprouts, and French fries. I greatly enjoyed my meal! Our server was super nice as we all decided on drinks and food. He came around multiple times to ask if everything was going okay. I sat outside so I can't give any remarks about decoration. But it seems nice on the inside as well. My experience at the Liberty Tavern was nice. I had the field green salad and french fries. Let's start with my faveeeee .. I love me some French fries and these did not disappoint! They were crunchy and seasoned to perfection! The chipotle sauce they served with them I was not a fan of but the ketchup was ! The salad was different .. I had the grains and greens and there wasn't that many chickpeas in the salad and the labneh added a different taste, like the labneh wasn't bad but it wasn't great either .. ‍, could be my tastebuds haha. The star of my meal was the fries and I would go back again just for the fries alone lol. Our server was kind and attentive. One of our favorite neighborhood spots! We bring so many of our visitors here because it's always consistent and the prices are great too. I love the versatility of the space, it's fun to sit outside when it's nice out, the downstairs has more of a pub feel, and the upstairs is more of a fine dining experience. Just wanted to go for another drink on a dreary night. This place looks decent and the crowd wasn't all 20-something. So, ordered casamigos blanco which was decent albeit a little pricey. However, it's VA, and it's expected. What is not expected is the auto 20% gratitude charge at the bar. I wasn't expecting that on the receipt, and added a bonus 18%. Good night for the bartender, but not so good for me. So, if you're ever at this bar, check your receipt, this practice of giving yourself an automatic 20% tip is completely bogus. I ate here for happy hour this past Sunday and it was a fantastic experience. I got the pesto chicken sandwich with fries, and two Dude pizzas because they were that good. Service was attentive and quick. The food was incredible, especially the fries as mentioned in several other reviews. The Dude pizza was so good that I had to get a second one to go. Prices were good for the serving size. There's indoor and outdoor dining. The indoor dining had some football games on, so the people at the bar were a little loud, but it was still a great experience. It's near Washington St. , so if you sit outside it could be a little loud, but not too bad. Overall I would love to come here again and try out more things on their menu. Had brunch here a couple of weeks ago with a few friends. We tried the all you can eat menu. All of the options were pretty good and generous. It was a great value for the price. I will say the service was a little off - we had to ask a couple of times about the status items we had previously ordered which they seemed to forget. I did a takeout order from Liberty Tavern on a Sunday night, and the place was pretty crowded but not overwhelming. I grabbed a seat at the bar without a problem, which was a nice surprise given the crowd. Lamb burger// cooked medium, and it was delicious super flavorful and juicy. The harissa sauce it came with packed a punch, so just a heads-up for anyone sensitive to heat (I personally liked the kick). Definitely a great pick if you're in the mood for something a little different than your usual burger. The fries that came with it were also solid. Nicely seasoned overall, though I did end up adding a bit of salt when I got home. Still, they had good texture and flavor beyond just salt, herby and crispy in all the right ways. Rainbow carrots// they were fine, but nothing I'd rush to order again. They're listed as coming with honey, but I didn't really catch the sweetness, and they definitely needed a sprinkle of salt to bring out the flavor. Not bad, just a little underwhelming. We had a reservation for Easter brunch and were seated right away on the patio, even though we were early. Our drink orders were taken promptly and we placed an initial food order as we opted for the unlimited Easter brunch. Our initial food order took a very long time to be served, such that they offered us a few extra minutes at our table to make up for it. We appreciated that especially since we'd consumed about 1.5 cocktails each before any food made it to our table. For the most part, the food was delicious. The only thing that was disappointing was the pizza - the sauce didn't have much flavor and the crust was chewy. Otherwise we really enjoyed ourselves. We went into this place because the festival food SUCK! Liberty's food was a delicious surprise, and the all you can eat menu was tapas style, which meant we got to try a lot of different dishes. Starting off with the chicken biscuit sandwich which was crispy, juicy, with a hint of sweet that balanced so well with the salty, flaky, buttry biscuit. The steak was tender and packed with flavors but the show stopper was the shrimps and grits! I still don't know how they were able to get so much flavors into such a tiny dish. read more

I think this may have been the best bottomless brunch I have had in Arlington!! Everything we ordered was so delicious, fresh, and flavorful! The mini grilled cheese with soup shooters and the spinach & artichoke dip definitely stole the show - but everything we ordered was so good it's def hard to pick. I can only think of 2 slightly downsides: the bread for avo toast & bread for the spinach artichoke dip were a bit harder than I would've liked, but still worth it. The other thing is that I am extremely picky with my Bloody Marys's so I wasn't the biggest fan but it was still drinkable. (4/5) Service did a great job of coming around frequently to see if we wanted to order more within our 2 hour time limit, which was very much appreciated. We went to The Liberty Tavern on a Friday night, and it was busy. It definitely has a standard American bar-restaurant feel, with lots of noise and dim lighting. Our server was incredibly friendly and laid out our options and had detailed answers to our questions. He checked in frequently and elevated our service experience. I decided to get the one of the pastas, and I was satisfied with portion size and taste. The pasta shape was quite good at holding sauce and there were enough components (breadcrumbs, sausage, rapini) to keep it interesting for the entirety of the meal. My friend got a burger, which was a safe option, and I was secretly jealous of my friend who got the pillowy summer gnocchi. We also shared a Caesar salad, and it was a top-tier Caesar salad. Clarendon is a very cool area and worth the visit just to walk around. Fueling up with brunch at the Liberty tavern is a great way to start. They have an all you can eat 90 min brunch that you can tack a drink package on to if you're looking for a wild morning. I came here for Happy Hour and throughly enjoyed it! Their HH is from 2:00-6:00, which was perfect since I had a half day at work. For food, I decided on the Uncle Joe's pizza (spicy sausage, peppers, onions, crushed tomatoes), which was a delicious! I sort of expected a thin crust pizza like I've seen on other HH menus, but it was actually a thicker crust. It was crispy on the outside but softer on the inside, and it arrived hot and fresh. The toppings were plentiful, and it was super cheesy. I also appreciated that they automatically gave me parmesan, oregano, and red pepper flake shakers. It was more filling than I anticipated, and could easily be shared if paired with other HH menu items or if the two people sharing it weren't *super* hungry. The fries were also a much larger portion than I expected. They were super crispy, softer on the inside, perfectly salted and herbed (i think they had rosemary or some other herb on them, which was a nice touch), and they came with both a Chipotle aioli and ketchup. As a dipper, I loved this. The Chipotle aioli had a perfect smokey, slightly spicey taste and paired well with them. For drinks, I got a couple margaritas, a spiked strawberry lemonade, and a limoncello spritzer - all of which I enjoyed. The margaritas and lemonade were draft cocktails, so I didn't expect much, but they were tasty *and* I was definitely feeling it a bit by the time I left. I've had better margaritas, but theirs was still good, and the spiked strawberry lemonade was really good. The limoncello spritzer was a really refreshing way to round out my drinks - light, lemony, and fizzy. In addition to the enjoyable drinks and food, the service was also great. I sat at the bar, and my bartender (I believe her name was Natalie) was very attentive. It didn't take long at all to get drinks. My food came out quickly, as well. While it was my first time here, it certainly wont be my last, and I recommend stopping in (especially for Happy Hour). I'm looking forward to trying other items on their menu! read more

Downstairs was so loud we couldn't hear ourselves so we opted for upstairs and it was immediately much more quiet and more group friendly for just dinner. Both were great though I have preference for vodka sauce. The service was super quick and attentive. Came last night with my roommate for a drink and a snack. The crowd was very tame, just a few people sitting at the bar and some at tables. A great place to have drinks and chat. We shared the brussels sprouts, and the french fries. Both were very nicely priced and delicious. I usually hate brussels sprouts but those were sooooo good. The portions were good for the two of us, we had leftovers. I wish they had a little bit more of a cocktail selection, as a lot of their drinks were whiskey or gin based. However, I am sure they can make a lot of different things, it just would be fun to have some fruity ones on the menu. Bartender was very sweet and helpful. read more

Liberty Tavern is a neighborhood staple and a must try! The food is incredible, as is the atmosphere and customer service from the second you walk in the door. Living very nearby, I have frequented Liberty many times and have never been disappointed. Allie is a manager there and is incredibly kind, hospitable and generous. When my friends and I have had charitable fundraisers we asked local restaurants to donate to, they don't blink an eye before offering to contribute. We asked to sit upstairs but the section was already closed for the evening so we sat outside as it was a lovely night. Hubs had a glass of wine and the chicken parm. I had the salmon & risotto and ordered a side of Mac & cheese and roasted carrots for the table. Outstanding food and super quick service. 4 stars for the ambience (not the restaurant's fault). It was a Saturday evening and the partying had begun! The streets were loud, people were loud and it was simply a noisy experience as the restaurant is smack next door to the Clarendon Ballroom; a cavernous art deco-style ballroom for clubbers. We were feeling our ages for sure as Arlington is a major hub for government and professional careers, drawing a large number of young professionals. We had a snowstorm and while essential businesses closed (Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, etc), Liberty Tavern opened their doors and was one of the only places to get a hot meal. Their employees were also out shoveling snow to make sure people could walk safely. I commend Liberty Tavern. They showed up to feed and serve their community.
