The food here was so good! I went for brunch and it was crowded and I see why! We opted to sit outside on a very hot and sunny day, but that didn't stop us from trying their hot soup. It was amazing. For more appetizers we had the apple donuts and they a HIT. We actually ordered more to go. The raspberry sauce that it comes with is also delicious. Also, the deviled eggs were 10/10! I order those anytime I see them on the menu and this restaurant did not disappoint. I had the brisket hash for my entree, and although I was already stuffed at this point, the few bites I had were incredible. It reheated well the next day too! I have never been to Ruthie's and had anything less than a remarkable experience. Hands-down, the best brunch spot I've been to in a long time. I finally made it here after trying to visit a few times, and it did not disappoint! I went on a Friday just before 11 a.m. to see if I could walk in, but I also made an 11:00 reservation just in case. I learned that they offer a limited brunch menu before 11, and it was noticeably less busy, which made for a really relaxed experience. The food, service, atmosphere, and value were all outstanding. I absolutely loved the chicken biscuit sandwich. The biscuit was soft, buttery, and delicious, actually softer than the biscuits served with Ruthie's Big Plate. (I'm not sure the difference)Speaking of Ruthie's Big Plate, it's generous enough that two people could easily share it, and every item on the plate was delicious. My kids cleaned their plates, which says a lot! The pancakes were also very good, although the apple sauce topping was a little too sweet for my taste. Next time, I'd ask for it on the side. My husband ordered the pulled pork and grits, and they were incredible. Bacon could have been better but Ill take it. My wife ordered the grits with pork which seemed very unique. She didn't care of them too much. The grits are kinda whipped/creamy. She wasn't a big fan. Similar to the devil eggs. Extremely whipped eggs. If you think these are southern comfort you will be sadly mistaken. The service here is top notch. By far the best part of the experience. My husband & I met up with friends for brunch while in the area. I made a reservation about two hours before we were going. It was pretty packed, so we had to wait about 10-15min after we got there to get seated. I ordered an iced coffee while we waited. We sat outside and servers immediately brought us some water while we waited for friends. We got the shrimp and jalapeño hush puppies to start. Try came out really fast. So we brought our service dog in here and immediately the hostess questioned us. Which is against the law. We showed her our service dog credentials. Then we got a table and we were again questioned by the manager who told us that we could not have a dog in a carrier on our lap inside. We had an 8 pound toy poodle. Sweet place, big portions and awesome smoked food. Tried the half rack ribs which fell off the bone, and it has so much meat it could have counted as a full rack. It gave the impression they were being offered as a courtesy, so that was a bit disappointing. The deviled eggs, on the other hand, were really good and a great start to the meal. Seated very quickly with no reservation. Waiter was friendly and helpful since it was our first time dining there. There's brightly window-lit indoor seating for about 45, and patio seating for about 40 more, all at tables for 2, 4, or 6, with the larger tables combinable for larger groups. The service was ok and could have been better. Mind you I am sitting outside in 90 degree weather. My friends and I had to constantly ask the waiter for water. At one point my friend just asked for a glass of ice, the waiter said to give him about 2 minutes. After about 15 minutes later, no ice. My friend had to ask again after another 5 minutes. My other friend asked for a pancake on the side and just never got it. He eventually told the waiter to just take it off the check and he didn't even want it anymore after waiting for so long for it. Overall the food was good, but the portion was small and wasn't filling at all. The service wasn't great and there isn't much seating. She felt there were a little too many apples, but said the pancakes themselves were fluffy and cooked just right . She also had a side of hashbrowns she really enjoyed these. My husband had the Big Plate and said the bacon and potatoes were both extremely tasty I ordered the steak frites and unfortunately it was the most disappointing part of the meal. The steak had absolutely no seasoning and very little flavor. The fries weren't hot and seemed a bit overcooked, and the chimichurri sauce was extremely underwhelming and also lacked flavor. That said, I did really enjoy the atmosphere. We sat inside but the windows were opened creating a flow from the inside dining area to the outside space. I can imagine the outdoor seating being really nice in the evening as the weather warms up. Our waitress was pleasant but not very attentive. Over the years I have stopped in countless times because this place is one of my favorite "diners" in Northern Virginia. First things first, make a reservation. You might get lucky as a walk in, but weekends are always busy, and there is a good reason for that. I have visited once for dinner, but breakfast and brunch are where this place truly shines. I always start with the skillet cornbread, hushpuppies, and a hot cup of coffee. It sets the tone for an amazing meal, and those starters are absolutely worth it. Do not skip them. As for entrees, the RAD burger is a standout brunch favorite, but I have also tried most of the big plates (minus the veggie bennie) and have never had a single bad dish.
