The pineapple upside down cake is by far, the perfect combination on moist and cake that you could get, could use more pineapple but ‍ preferences :) My group got one of each of every sandwich and every person had no complaints, i had the jose marti and very very good, not dry or too wet, very tasty. P.S. the farmer outside requires a 10 dollar minimum on card, won't tell you that but will charge the difference :( if i knew that i would've bought more stuff. Ok I've seen some of the reviews and I've driven past this little market so many times and have always wanted to stop... well I finally did and I'm so happy I did I got a small apple pie which was an absolute delight and this sandwich which she made fresh and it was amazing! I really wanted to like this place, since I just moved nearby. I had a Cuban last week which wasn't bad. I felt sick the next day, but wasn't sure it was from that. Now I am. Today I stopped by and the woman working the counter walked in after I believe she had been eating. Some fries and gravy or something. She set the plate down. Opened a tub on the counter and pulled out a pre made Cuban with HER BARE HANDS and did not wash them prior. I was mortified. I hate being a pest so I almost let it go. Thinking maybe the heat of the press will kill the germs. Then I realized that the tub that she pulled the sandwich from had just been sitting out on the counter. No refrigeration. I asked: "um excuse me, the tub that you just pulled the sandwich from, is that a cooler?" She replied that it was not a cooler, but it kept them cool enough. It was literally just a big plastic tub. I said I'm sorry I'm just a little uncomfortable with the meat, not being refrigerated and just sitting out on the counter like that. She replied to that the owner said that they can keep it that way. That was where I decided to politely let her know that I was sorry to waste it, but I just didn't feel comfortable and would have to cancel the sandwich. She said "you're good". And I left. There are definite food storage and hygiene problems at this place. I believe this is something that starts at the top. You need to be educating your employees on safe food handling and you're not doing it. So hopefully the person doesn't get punished for this, and is actually educated and you take the time to make sure your staff is up to speed on safe food handling. They also had a varity of pickles to choose from with some interesting flavors like jalapeno and hot garlic that are all homemade. The sandwich shop also sells pies and other pastries. The prices range from $3-$12. Sandwich platters are also available with 24 hour notice. Their location makes them easily accessible. There is parking on 3 sides of the building. The farmer produce section is nice and spacious. The produce is assembled for easy access. My reason for four stars is that the sandwich shop did not appear very clean. I got a couple mini pies here and I ended up just throwing them out when I got home. The whipped topping and top of the pies were hard and rubbery, as if it had been sitting out for several days on both of the pies I purchased which really sucked because I love pie :( I'm not sure how long they leave these out for but I'd try it in the store before taking it home and maybe you can get your money back. Wonderful Place. Doesn't look like much from the road but make sure you stop! I don't even think the name is on the outside anywhere, it looks like a fruit stand, but it is so much more. Go inside the door to find all kinds of stuff inside. Homemade pies, great sandwiches, shakes, and jellies, jams, etc. We stopped and bought 2 'traditional' cuban sandwiches for the road. I'm from Tampa so I think I'm a pretty good judge of a cuban sandwich.....and this one was the best one I have had in Manatee County, hands down. Great fresh cuban bread & lots of meat. Made fresh as you wait. You can't eat inside, however, there is an outdoor eating area under a roof for shade. Isn't it so great to pull off the highway and find a hidden gem like The Garden. An unassuming little garden stand and you enter into a step back in time. One counter has some yummy fresh baked pies and the front counter is where you order sandwiches. If you even think you like a Cuban sandwich.... order it! Delicious fresh baked bread with fresh meat and pickles. After your sandwich is made you take it outside and eat at a picnic table. Pure heaven. Went here because the reviews were good and the people were nice but I don't think the pies were fresh the coconut one had mold in it and we didn't trust to eat any of the others. Kind of bummer. This is one of the more well-stocked roadside stands along 41, with all sorts of different pies being their big draw. Lots of varieties here, and most sound quite good. I come to get boiled peanuts for the wife, which I'm told are pretty good. Also had my first experience with devil crabs here... which I will not be doing again (yuck). Service is very friendly, but prices are high. Bring cash. They take credit/debit, but only on purchases over $10. Parking can get a little squirrelly, since there are no laid out spaces, people just park anywhere. Last time I was there, a woman parked her Lincoln across the entire lot, cutting the parking lot in two. Nice job. Say hi to the cows, too. read more

I bought my Christmas tree here 3 weeks ago it still is green except on the bottom thanks to my 1 year old granddaughter and my Great Dane . The granddaughter rearrange the ornaments. The dog lays under the tree when she gets up she hits the leaves. The people that work here are nice and very helpful. The trees were beautiful this year. The poinsettias were beautiful as well. The Garden is very close to my work so I've been here several times. I'd break down the score like this: Food: 3/5 Cleanliness: 1/5 Service: 2/5 The sandwiches are good, especially the Cuban. And my coworkers love the Reuben. The deviled crab is pretty dry and gross though. The cookies and brownies are less than expected. The pies are about average, nothing spectacular. Prices are slightly more than Subway right across the street and the quality isn't that much better. My biggest problem with this place is cleanliness. They are not in the habit of changing gloves between handling money and food, which leaves a sick feeling in my stomach. Service here has been spotty. Two of the nicer employees are no longer there and we've had bad experiences with two others. In one case, I politely asked the employee to change her gloves after handling money and she lied about touching the money with the gloved hand then gave me attitude. The other time my coworker was having a conversation with a slightly flamboyant employee and the actual owner of The Garden asked my coworker if he wanted her employee's phone number. It was the strawberry pie and it looked like it was going to be amazing, but it was either old or there was no sugar in it. No good. The produce was pretty decently priced.. The whip cream was like glue and I couldn't cut through the pie. I called the next day and was told I could get my money refunded.
