I'd definitely come back because the quality of the gelato was excellent. The only area that could use some improvement was the customer service flow. When we walked in, there was one employee working, a customer with three young children who was taking quite a while deciding on flavors, and another customer who appeared to be waiting to pay. I don't know how long he had already been waiting, but by the time he finally paid, he had nearly finished eating his gelato. While the family was still deciding, the customer herself kindly told us to go ahead and place our order so she wouldn't keep holding us up. We appreciated that gesture and stepped up to order. I ordered chocolate and stracciatella. When I asked for chocolate, the employee asked if I was sure and whether I'd had it before. She did offer me a sample, which was thoughtful, but it caught me off guard since I wasn't expecting to have to justify my flavor choice. I also asked if they had cones, and she said they didn't. She then asked what size cup I wanted. I replied that I'd like one scoop of each flavor, not realizing the scoop count and cup size were separate choices. It took a couple of exchanges before I understood what she meant. A little more explanation upfront would have made the ordering process much smoother. After our gelato was prepared, I expected we'd be able to pay and move on. Instead, the employee immediately went back to helping the family continue sampling and deciding on flavors before ringing us up. By the time we were finally able to pay, my husband had almost finished eating his gelato. The employee was genuinely friendly and patient, especially with the family, and I understand it's not easy managing everything alone. I just think some additional training on balancing multiple customers--such as quickly checking out customers whose orders are already complete before returning to someone who is still deciding--would make the experience much smoother for everyone. Overall, the gelato was delicious, the shop was clean, and I'd happily come back. I just hope the service flow improves because the product itself is definitely worth the visit.

I'd earmarked Old 300 as the place in Blanco, to go up against the others. We arrived on a Monday about 1:20p. After lunch hour, and the place was packed. (that's an indicator right there. One of the slowest days for restaurants during the week, and not at peak meal time.) The line went quick. They have what's listed as a "BBQ Sandwich" - it's a blend of chopped brisket and chopped pulled pork (not in long, stringy strands) together. We were going to hit other towns & sandwiches, so for the two of us we just ordered one sandwich and a side of potato salad. We got it to-go. Sat at an empty table. Got ourselves fixins - some doctored up onions (sliced, seems like they sauté them a little in butter and then top w fresh cracked black pepper), pickles, and both their Sweet and their Spicy sauces. They brought it out quickly, less than 5 min. We opted to just eat it there instead of take it to the next town. We topped with pickles, onions, and the Sweet sauce. Oh my freakin' sweet Lord! In this small Texas town with an unassuming spot a block and a half off the main road going through town, easily one of the top 5 bbq sandwiches of all time - no joke! To break it down, we tasted all items individually. The onions are delectable - softened from the sauté, good moisture from the butter, delicious. The Sweet sauce is crazy good. A fantastic balance of sweet, tang, & slight bite. I've never said this before but it's true - told my daughter, "I could just sit here and dip these pickles in this sauce for the next 30 minutes and be completely satisfied." The sauce, yes, is that good. Daughter is not a heat/spice lover, but she did try the Spicy sauce and we both thought it was definitely tame as far as heat goes. We both thought the Spicy sauce was okay. The Sweet sauce, though, stellar! We were overwhelmed by how good it all was. When we got to the car, I said, "All the ingredients together was like a symphony." Next time I visit her, am absolutely gonna suggest another drive out to Blanco specifically, to try some other items on the menu. But I can say this, for the BBQ Sandwich, pickles, doctored onions, and Sweet sauce alone, Old 300 is worth a generous drive and you will 100 percent be happy as a lark. Thanks for fantastic meal, Old 300. Will most definitely be back.

Owned by Kara Cleaver, who developed an interest in wines during her 30s and eventually decided to embark on this new adventure, the winery has been open since 2021. Kara has collaborated with experienced winemakers to craft her exceptional wines, each themed around the unique stories of the land from which they originated. The winery places a strong emphasis on sustainable practices, from grape growing to winemaking, and remains actively involved in local Blanco community events. The tasting room has a cozy feel inside and is built from repurposed and recycled materials, not to mention (again) the great views one can enjoy from the hilltop vantage point. There is a patio on the back and side of the space and ample outdoor seating with tables for folks to enjoy. There are several wines to select from on the menu. So, no matter what your fancy is, there is probably something on the menu you can find that suits you. For this visit, six of the wines were sampled. The first was the 2023 Trebbiano. This lovely white wine is light bodied with notes of stone fruit and lemon zest making this white wine very appealing on a hot summer day. Next was the 2021 Albariño. This full-bodied white wine sourced from the Texas High Plains AVA has citrus on the nose followed by a fair amount of minerality and good acidity. For the Rosé wine, the 2023 Ranch Road stood out as a light bodied and fruit forward wine with a light ruby red color. It is a blend of Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Gris, sourced from Reddy Vineyards. Moving on to the reds, the 2023 Circle H was sampled. This red field blend from Reddy Vineyards circle field plot has a mix of just about everything. It is medium bodied with notes of blackberries, tobacco, leather and a touch of smoke. The next red wine sampled was the 2023 Petit Verdot. It has a lot of dark fruit going for this full-bodied beast and some firm tannins that grab your attention. Lastly, the 2023 Barrel Racer was sipped. This port style wine was aged in Garrison Brother's used whiskey barrels. Made with Syrah, it expresses some good notes of tobacco, cherries and chocolate all in one sip! It is a definitive sipper that is worth enjoying after your meal, or with dessert or cheese. The tasting room also has a kitchen in case you get the munchies. Live music from local musicians helps complement the cool laid-back vibe of this place along with your favorite glass of wine. During our day trip in the hill country, we stumbled upon this charming little bakery that piqued our curiosity. Unable to resist the temptation, we decided to step inside and discover the delightful treats that awaited us. To our delight, there were over a dozen delectable baked goods to choose from, ranging from pies to cookies and bars. After careful consideration, we settled on a tantalizing butter bar and a pecan shortbread cookie. Although the pecan shortbread cookie didn't quite capture the distinctive salted butter flavor we expected, the butter bar more than made up for it with its heavenly taste. The only thing we wished for was the option of coffee and indoor seating, as the scorching day made it a bit challenging to fully enjoy our delightful treats. Nonetheless, our visit to this quaint bakery was a delightful experience, leaving us with fond memories of its yummy offerings. read more

Whoo-wheee this place is GREAT! If you're traveling between Austin and San Antonio, take the shortcut between Hwy 281 and 290 along the backside of Blanco and you'll find it. I stopped there in the morning and bought an assortment of Breakfast goodies on my way to a job-site. I noticed they served smoked chicken salad in to-go packages and decided to grab a couple for later. The crew scarfed down all the muffins, danishes and mini-pies I had in seconds. One 'ol boy even stole my the smoked chicken salad I had stashed away for lunch. I stopped by the next day and got a full-sized frozen pie for the wife. We had the in-laws coming in and that pie saved my wife from fretting over dessert and freed up time for other chores. I'm now a huge fan of the Deutsch Apple's Take and Bake product. The new owners insist on excellence, and it shows in everything from the kid-friendly play room (bonus for parents everywhere) to the delicious cold brewed coffee (never really knew a difference but it knocked my socks off) to their commitment to the original recipes. My favorite is the apple pecan muffin - it spills over the top of the wrapper and that part is a crunchy, buttery, sinful delight. So much care and attention was given in bringing this adorable place back to life. Well worth the trip! Right down the street from some antique stores, so you could always make it a fun little outing. read more

She was busy but when she finished, she just stared at the line and then walked to the back as well. I get people may not be trained for every job, but this poor girl getting slammed and doing everything herself needed help. At least pretend to ask. An older gentleman walked in and went behind the counter, surveyed the line, checked a pastry fridge to make sure that it was stocked up, went to back briefly and walked out. No one ever helped the poor girl at the front counter. Food is amazing, but you may be waiting quite a while to order if they keep this up. Will we return....heck yes.
