The boars head resort is absolutely beautiful. I looked up the best breakfast and the mill room did not disappoint. they offered a breakfast buffet with many pasties, muffin, croissants and fresh fruit to c from. there was. a waffle station with topping and a wonderful selection of other breakfasts dishes. I had a window with it a view, it was my birthday and it was absolutely perfect. Only downside was the lady at the waffle station asked me for a tip after I told her I was celebrating my birthday

I am usually skeptical of restaurants in resorts. But the Mill Room has impressed me. The food is excellent and service is great. For more casual dining, on the first evening, we ordered lobster rolls from the bar and sat at the patio for a nice relaxing view. On the second night, we enjoyed a nice formal dinner in the main dining room. The NY steak was cooked perfectly.

The food and ambience is good. Because there were 6 of us, we were seated at a high topped table which we found uncomfortable. Our waiter, Erik, was able to push our chairs closer to the table because we weren't able to do so ourselves. Erik was a fabulous waiter. Everyone liked what they ordered. The fried oysters were the big hit. Roasted vegetables as sides. We were also able to order hamburgers which came from the Bistro menu in the next room.

I have eaten here a few times over the years. The Mill Room is always excellent! The food, the ambiance, the service and did I mention the food! Beef tartare, wild mushroom, Brussel sprouts to start. Smoking Sazerac and botanical gin and tonic are a must. Trout and wild boar paired with a bottle of ridge finished with dessert! Heavenly! One of my wife and I's favorite spots in Charlottesville.

    Good, but not great

This place really tries to be 4-5 stars, but just falls short, although it's not terrible and a 3 feels a little harsh. We were celebrating a milestone birthday or a girls trip and opted for one dinner in the resort restaurant. Pros: - beautiful views - helped me celebrate with a card, complementary dessert with a candle, and happy birthday confetti on table - server was super friendly - great mashed potatoes Cons - cocktails were all a miss (that's tough to do); they try to be fancy and mess up drinks with too much fresh basil, mint, or citrus - way overpriced for food quality - sauce a little cloying on steak - most food was fine, but wanted it to be great - little too much salt on truffle fries - bartender was slow as molasses

We do a yearly trip to Charlottesville, VA for the Foxfield races and found the Mill Room while looking for a dinner spot. I was so happy we found a place that was able to take us on a Saturday evening AND booking a day of reservation. The Mill Room is part of the Boar's Head Resort, which is a stunning hotel on a lot of land with gorgeous views. Honestly, I would love to stay here sometime in the future! The dining space reminded me a lot of a country club with gorgeous exposed wooden beams and a large fireplace at the center of the room. Super cozy! The dinner menu seems to be mostly focused around heartier comfort foods -- chicken pot pie, pork chops, and lamb. If this isn't your thing (me) they do have a few other options like salmon, tofu, and chicken to even out the menu. I started with the chef's soup which was mushroom. It was delicious! The base and consistency of the soup reminded me of potato soup, but the mushroom flavors were strong. I decided to go with a burger and fries for dinner. The fries were listed as truffle parm but I didn't taste any truffle (the parm was definitely present though). My burger was a little bit on the dry side, which was a tad disappointing. Everyone I was with seemed to enjoy their meal, though no one was blown away. Overall, a solid spot in a really pretty area!

The food was very flavorful and cooked well. The service was the absolute best part of the entire experience as our waitress was incredibly kind. Setting was dark and quiet.

Shrimp &Grits -perfectly cooked jumbo shrimp and creamy grits. With au jus sauce. Full of flavor and great portion

We arrived and the staff were very friendly. We sat down and we served bread with a wonderful tasting blended butter made of paprika, Tyne, salt and garlic. We enjoyed a espresso martini and a Malbec wine while we waited for our dinner. For an appetizer we got Dates stuffed with goat cheese wrapped in bacon in a bed of basil chimichurri sauce topped with a jumbo shrimp - probably the best food I've tasted. The sweetness of the dates paired with the tart goat cheese and bacon made for a savory explosion of flavors. Huge compliments to the chef. This should be a standing menu item!!!!! Our main course was Shrimp &Grits -perfectly cooked jumbo shrimp and creamy grits. With au jus sauce. Full of flavor and great portion and a nice juicy NY strip (cooked to perfect with flavor and tenderness) with asparagus and mashed potatoesk

Open only 4 days a week, the menu changes each week. If you sit in the lounge or at the bar, you can do a la carte, or there are options for multi-course tasting menus where you can choose your courses for most of them. We most recently visited for our anniversary weekend, sat at the bar with Michael, and everything was just excellent. Great portions, seasoning, protein temperatures, dish compositions...you name it, we enjoyed it. I also really, really appreciate their beverage program and wine list. Their wines by the glass list is pretty extensive, and they not only feature a really good selection from around the world, but also VA wines, especially the ones they feature from their own label, made by Joy Ting. I haven't had a wine of hers I haven't liked, but we chose our own adventure this time around by choosing different wines and splitting most dishes so we could try the majority of the menu. It's a 1-2x a year place for me just because we're not local, but it's definitely worth the drive.

Several of the kids' meals came out with incorrect sides, which should have been a simple detail to get right. The calamari was very greasy, and two of us ordered steaks with the bone marrow butter. We could not taste any bone marrow flavor whatsoever, and both steaks were overcooked. My daughter-in-law ordered the lobster roll at market price, which ended up being around $38. For the price, the portion was very small and the flavor was underwhelming. Overall, the food and service did not meet expectations, especially for what we paid. Sadly, this was not the enjoyable birthday dinner we had hoped for.

Ordered a cucumber chamomile gin and tonic, which left something to be desired. We started with the blackberry salad which on the menu said it also included avocado but there was none on the salad-despite this the salad was great. Our mains were good but not great. The biggest issue I found here was despite our server being very nice while ordering she NEVER checked in on us after anything arrived, never refilled waters either. So although she was nice the service was not good as there were times we wanted to order something else and one of the entrees didn't arrive as it was ordered but our server never checked in. All things considered I think I would only come here to grab a salad or appetizer.

The secret sauce made it perfect. The flavors were complex and I couldn't figure out what they put in it to make the sauce because they all blended so well. Roasted Maine Scallops: I have never cared for scallops. These had the best texture - the perfect amount of fluffy and firm. They were buttery and delicious. The capers topped on it added a little something extra without overwhelming the flavor of the scallop. 2nd course: Steak Chinois: steak was tender and cooked to perfection (went medium) the ginger sauce gave it so much flavor. The potato's were smooth and savory and melded well with the steak. The flavors combined complimented each other so well. Grilled Double Rack of Lamb: was very tender too. My first bite had too much red sauce and was a bit overwhelming after having just finished the steak chinois. However, I mixed with the potatoes and lightly dipped in red sauce and then the flavor was an explosion in my mouth. 3rd course: Vanilla crème brûlée with rasberries- literally perfect. Can't even put into words. You must get it. Bittersweet chocolate Brioche bread pudding -bread was warm, raspberries were cold, and pudding was an added extra. *chefs kiss.
