In addition to some of the specifics mentioned in my previous review (see below), there have been several instances where Ankers could have just recommended the more expensive route to fix something, but chose to allow us to make an informed decision by trying alternatives or doing things incrementally so that it could be determined if a smaller fix would suffice. All this without sacrificing the integrity of the car, though. It is such a relief to know you are going to receive competent and honest work on one of the major financial investments you make: your vehicle. I can't recommend them highly enough.

I came in to schedule my appointment and got an estimate. The work is now complete. They hit the estimate (installed new brakes all around), plus a little extra for antifreeze (drain & fill), and a tire rotation. Tires were already off the vehicle, so why not rotate them? Makes sense to me. It was one of the hottest days of the summer so far, 90 degrees, and these guys were still on it. No complaints, just got the work done. Better than me. I think I've found my new go to auto repair shop.

Another very good experience at Hari's today. My Lexus…read moreneeded a NYS Inspection and Oil Change. I arrived for my appointment and was told the customer before me needed unexpected work done. Robert, the outstanding mechanic who has worked there for twenty years, apologized for the delay. I was offered and accepted a ride to my nearby home to wait. Two and a half hours later, the work was completed. I was given a ride back to the garage. I call this excellent customer service. And that is one reason why we support an independent service provider rather than a dealer. Plus, the cost is considerably less than for work at a dealership. At Hari's, communication with customer, attention to customer needs, and expertise in servicing cars are all superior to most dealerships. I believe I am getting a fair and accurate appraisal of work that needs to be done. Whereas, at the dealership, I feel the bill is padded with extra work that is unnecessary. Plus, I am supporting an independently owned local business that resides in my community. A "WIN" all around.

I dropped my car off on a Friday stating that the cabin of the car was filling with exhaust. They…read moresaid that the exhaust smell was coming from a leaking oil seal which required the transmission to be removed to fix. 2 weeks later, I picked my car up on a Friday at closing and paid $3,300. Within 2 minutes driving down the road, my cabin was again filled with the same exhaust smell and the car now also had a slight vibration that wasn't there before. I dropped the car back off that night after closing. When I called Saturday morning, I was told that they did not have time to look at it that day. On Monday, I stopped on the way home from work. The owner was in the process of looking under the hood of my car. When I approached and started to discuss the issue with my car he became very aggressive in his demeanor and tone of voice. Never once did I ask for a refund on the work that was done (that didn't fix the problem I brought the car in for) nor did I accuse them making up a problem that didn't exist. I simply wanted the issue I brought the car in for to be done promptly since I was now on week 3 without a car. The owner made me feel very uncomfortable to the point I started to cry so I excused myself and left. The owner followed up a half hour later via phone call, speaking very nicely to me, sharing the great news that the parts needed to fix the original problem would run me around $50 and they had discovered the vibration was due to a loose bolt that was now tightened and fixed. We picked the car up Friday and I was informed they charged me 1/2 the labor bringing this new additional bill to $270 for a total of $3,570. Paying so much when the original issue was under $500 definitely isn't ideal. However, that is not the reason for my low review. For me, I feel they should have checked that the original problem was fixed before giving it back to me the first time. The biggest issue was how I was treated by the owner. I would not want anyone else to have to experience that I had. The other two workers were very polite and respectful.

With older vehicles, they track wear on belts and parts and billing statements include a detailed explanation of repairs. They utilize text messaging for appointment reminders, pick-up times and will text a PDF of repair estimates, upon request. A community based business, they are respectful of the surrounding residential homes, keeping their building well-maintained and the grounds nicely landscaped.

Their diagnosis was much simpler, more affordable, and most importantly correct. The Fit drives way better now. Also they were really accommodating with my pick up and drop off schedule. They also have a great diagnostic tool that texts you the problems and proposed fixes before they call you to discuss the next steps. I'll be going back there.
