At the time, Matt Ciocchi assured me that he was going to make sure we were very happy with our system as long as we owned it. In the first six months we had a couple issues and Matt dealt with them pretty well. In late August of 24 the system went down. Matt diagnosed it over the phone and that was the last I heard of him. He did not take my calls or respond to emails. I ended up having to contract another company to fix, at a premium that Matt assured me I would never have to pay. The system was down over a month. I only hope through writing this review that I spare someone the expense and headaches of working with Matt Ciocchi and DIY Solar.

I talked to absolutely every one about a solar panel installation. I easily spent months on…read moreresearching the topic, vendors, and installation techniques. Ultimately I settled on on a mechanically mounted system for my flat roof, which was wonderful. Some vendors would not touch a flat roof. Some only installed ballasted systems. Some vendors assumed that they could use a lift to get onto my roof when they actually needed a crane. Some just wanted to overcharge me with the hot new technology, sweeping the nation. After reviewing multiple bids, I settled on Sunbug to install my system. Chris Miller was a no nonsense saleman throughout my whole research phase. He answered all of my questions, and disabused me of any misinformation I may have had. He was polite, but firm, which is exactly what a layman consumer needs when making a large, delayed gratification purchase like a solar system. Once I signed on the dotted line, their team actually moved fairly quickly through the rest of the process. We were able to install my system before the end of the tax year, so some of that delayed gratification is delayed just a little less. I would give a five star review, but there were a few hiccups. Once I signed the dotted line, the team was less responsive than I needed with my subsequent questions. They installed the inverter in my basement without my input, which is a problem when I plan to finish my basement. We quickly fixed that by simply moving it, but we could have avoided that problem altogether by filling me in on the plan first. I chalk that up to some disorganization, and rushing to complete systems before the end of the tax year. Another silly issue is that their electrician upgraded me to a 200A panel, which is wonderful. For some reason though he reinstalled the same 100A main breaker I originally had, which makes no sense. Now I have to pay some one else to upgrade my main breaker. A month later I am actually still waiting for an inspector to check off on their work so that I can turn the system on, but that may be more an issue with the inspector than with Sunbug. In any event, I am mostly pleased with my purchase, and look forward to bathing my roof in sun shine in the coming years.

The information provided about costs and savings was accurate and useful. While installation was a bit slow due to backlogs and availability, the service provided was outstanding. There are lots, and lots, and lots of steps in getting the panels installed and running. They have a super-well organized process that makes the entire process that makes everything happen quickly. Given current tax breaks, and energy prices, the ROI should be quite high if you have a decent place for the panels.

LastMile provided me with several pricing options and products to choose form and made their recommendations based on their experience and knowledge. I had done my own research with other solar companies/manufacturers but LastMile provided me with best pricing and installation options. Unlike other solar companies, LastMile does not represent any solar panel manufacturer and offered me with a range of solar panel and inverter options to choose from. LastMile created the required drawings and documentation for the town permit, electric company (EverSource) and SREC credits. The electrical work and roof work (installation of rails, flashing etc.) was done very professionally. The town inspectors were very happy with the quality of their work and approved the installation with no issues. In order to qualify for the state incentives, I had to rush my installation and LastMile finished the job well before the deadline. The town permit, installation and approval all happened in less than a week! The post installation customer support and communication has been wonderful so far. Earlier this month there was some issue with the software upgrade for the inverter but LastMile took care of it immediately. I am glad that I picked LastMile energy for my solar installation and customer support. I would strongly recommend them given their professional attitude, quality of work and comparative pricing.
