Pakistani and Indian cuisine along Fraser street, Vancouver For my appetizer i got the beef samoza it was good but still nothing can beat the one from Surrey i used to order from a friend. For my main entree i ordered the Dewan grill combo this consist of lamb,Kabab,Chicken Kabab,Beef boti, chicken tikka serve on a sizzler.all entrees are serve with a choice of naan or rice i got the naan. I actually dont eat lamb and i specified it to the server, she said that she will add more beef instead but still it was served with lamb....well im in a rush and already hungry so i just set the lamb aside and brought home to my roommate. Good grilled items very tasty and with that green spicy sauce everything tasted perfect(excluding the lamb) For my dessert i had the Gulab jamun with ice cream....sweet and very sweet. Not bad. Another place that you bring home the smell of the foods in your clothing. Neat and small place, with friendly service. Parking here now is metered, but theres a lot few blocks away residential and they are free....well walking far is the name of the game. Affordable Accept cash, debit and credit if you love other kind of meat like goat you can find it here. I wanna try the biryani next time...

Thank god I found you (Goat Biryani), I was lost without you... Let me be frank with you: the city of Vancouver lacks good Indian food. So many places miss the mark. Not this place! A friend of mine brought me here, who heard about it from a friend of his, who probably heard about it from another friend. When you make proper, authentic food, people hear about it and they come. When you water down your food for the Western palate, you lose everything. This is real Indian/Pakistani food and it tastes great! Can't wait to eat here again. p.s. make sure you call ahead and go on a day that they make their big vat of Biriyani.

I was glad to find Mark's awesome review and other review got me coming here. It was a great experience. My sister and I went here on a rainy sunday afternoon for Indian food. Dewan E-Khass is a small Indian/ Pakistani restaurant on Fraser which has limited seating(there are 7 tables). Very quiet and clean restaurant I have to say. It was odd being served by Russian waitress at first, but she did a really good job. My water got refilled often without mentoning and she checked making sure we were doing okay. Therefore service was professional and fast. We got Mogo ($5.99), Chicken Curry($9.99) and Masala Chai($1.90) and they were all tasty and fresh. First, Mogo (cassava fries) was crispy and delicious. It was already seasoned a bit and enhanced even more flavour with chutney. Yum. Chicken Curry was so delicious. We ordered it as medium spicy and the Indian spices were so flavourful. It comes with rice or naan so we picked naan and couldn't stop dipping curry sauce to naan. Naan bread was unbelievably huge, soft and crispy. One of the perfect naan breads ever! Chai tea was also good. We were blown away by the service and food. I have to say it was a five star experience. The only downside would be the small seating spaces.

Update: they seem to have addressed my concerns about table cleanliness, consistency, and attentiveness. 4.5 stars. It's not a five because, well, it's no Cactus Club in terms of décor. --- The dishes I order are out-of-this-world, best-in-town, good. There are a few dishes that I didn't like. Notably, they have a bone-in chicken main dish--Chicken Karahi--that was basically all bone and no meat. Maybe that is normal; regardless, didn't like it. --- I recommend the Butter Chicken, the Eggplant Bartha, the Shashliks, The Grilled Chicken Wings, and the Dewan Grill Mix. --- Entrées come with rice or naan, your choice. Good parking on that stretch of Fraser. Sometimes they are understaffed. It can get uncomfortably crowded at times. Seats about 24. There are three bubble tea places (all good) on that block in case you're craving for drink desserts.

Love this place. I have been missing my spices since I left Ontario. I ordered the Nihari with rice, fantastic flavour, with great amount of heat. Definatly my favorite so far. Also ordered the Curry Chicken and Butter Chicken. Both were excellent. Both with lots of sauce, great tang in the Butter Chicken. Excellent flavours. Serving size for the price is excellent. I will definatly be back.

Great food authentic recipes, if you're visiting and looking for authentic and delicious indo/Pakistani food this one of many spots in this area. We tried the chicken Tilkka and butter chicken, all was great. Dining is a little small but people will go no matter where good food is serviced, and most importantly it's clean and service was good. We were even asked if we need to order more food before kitchen closed.

    * New Pakistani with promise * This spot has turned over again and the new restaurant is called Dewan-E-Khass. They have put up new signage and made the interior quite welcoming. It feels less hole-in-the-wall than previous restaurants in the spot have felt. The menu has a mixture of Pakistani and Indian cuisine. I ordered the lunch special vegetable biryani ($7.99) which came with a complimentary side of raita. The spicing on the biryani was spot on. The complex seasoning profile highlighted the vegetables mixed in nicely with a very pleasant level of heat. The veggies were cooked perfectly so that they had a slight chew to them instead of just being mushy. The complimentary raita served to cool the spice level and the small bits of vegetables in the raita added nice texture as well. Overall a lovely lunch for a very reasonable price. Water was regularly refilled without asking, and done so with a smile. I will definitely be back to work my way through the rest of the menu to see how everything else is. Based upon the biryani things look promising!

The location itself is beautiful, situated right on the water with a modern, stylish design. We chose to sit outside, and despite it being a cool Vancouver evening, we were perfectly comfortable thanks to the outdoor heaters. The seating was especially nice, with cushioned lounge-style chairs that felt clean, comfortable, and inviting. Between the waterfront setting, cozy seating, and heaters, it was a wonderful atmosphere. To start, I ordered a frozen sangria, which is one of my favorite drinks. It was absolutely delicious, perfectly frozen, smooth, and refreshing without being overly sweet. It was garnished with a slice of orange and was one of the better sangrias I've had. We also ordered the crab dip, and it was outstanding. Honestly, it was chef's kiss perfect. I devoured almost all of it and was actually a little disappointed that my son had eaten some of the chips because I still had dip left at the end and wanted every last bite. It was creamy, flavorful, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. For my entrée, I ordered the blackened chicken, and I was genuinely blown away. I've eaten chicken dishes all over the world, and this was some of the best chicken I've ever had. It was incredibly moist, juicy, and packed with flavor. The seasoning was excellent, and it was grilled to perfection. I wasn't expecting such a simple dish to be so memorable. The roasted potatoes underneath were delicious, and even the asparagus which I wasn't initially excited about, it worked perfectly with the dish. In fact, I ordered a side kale salad because I wasn't sure I'd enjoy the asparagus, but the entire plate came together beautifully. Every component complemented the others, creating a meal that was both flavorful and satisfying. My son ordered a burger and said it was very good as well. The restaurant does get busy, and there was a short wait when we arrived, but it was only about 10 minutes. We timed it well and were seated fairly quickly. Once seated, the service was excellent. The staff was attentive, friendly, and kept everything running smoothly despite how busy the restaurant was. Between the waterfront location, comfortable atmosphere, excellent service, and truly exceptional food, this was easily one of the highlights of our Vancouver trip. If I ever find myself back in Vancouver, I will absolutely return. This wasn't just a great meal....it was one of the best dining experiences I've had anywhere.

Their space is pretty big and can easily accomodate a big group. Most of their items are also family-style shareables, making it a perfect place to go in groups! We started the meal with their special Yemeni coffee, it was so different! It had a light caramel colour, wasn't too sweet but more on the acidic side. It was presented in a gold tray with their traditional Yemeni coffee kettle and dates. For starters we got their Yemeni bread (super soft and HUGE) with hummus and a fava bean dip. Both were pretty good! For mains, I got their spicy beef with hummus and their Yemeni bread. The beef was cooked very well and was certainly flavourful. My partner got their falafel platter with bread and salad. The falafels were so crispy! Last for dessert we got their khunafa, LOVED IT! Reminded me of home. The interior of the restaurant was also very nicely decorated. I do think Saba Foods is fancier than other places I've been to while exploring new cuisines and I personally prefer a more casual dining experience. As for the food, the portion sizes were very generous (though I did see other diners ordering individually). I shared the haneeth and saltah with a friend as well as got the kunafa and bint al sahen for dessert. The lamb was very tender and fell off the bone and the saltah came in a bubbling pot. I think the presentation of each dish was beautiful and was representative of its quality. My favourite dish was definitely the haneeth; it had a good combination of meat, rice, and vegetables. My reason for the missing star would be price point (total came around to $55 per person) as well as flavour as I'm used to having very flavorful dishes from other cuisines. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who hasn't tried Yemeni food before though!
