Ordered the chicken korma - hot; received a container of tasteless chicken in thin, diluted liquid. I thought the 15 minute wait was going to produce something relatively authentic. Unfortunately they were probably just opening the ghee & adding some crushed cashews - they forgot the salt, spices, and heat. We came here because some of our friends recommend it to us. The first thing we noticed was the decore it fancier than most Indian restaurant that we have been to but it wasn't our taste. And the lighting was quite dim it would have been nice if it was brighter. We has no issue with the service. Our server was nice and attentive. We ordered the dinner combination and the korma . Everything was quite delicious. The only thing is that there was almost no meat in the dishes with contained meat. The sauce was really yummy but for the price I expected a little more. Very elegantly decorated.  Friendly hostess lead me to table as I had reservations - I was 10 min.early so I ordered a hot lemon water.  Nursed it for awhile before my friends came in where we ordered the following items: Malai kofta Vegetable samosa Butter chicken Bhindi bhahi Spinach Naan after perusing the items on the multi-choice menu.  The choices we made were delicious, however the samosas could have been a bit bigger as there were only 2 with a couple of sauces accompanying the dish. The butter chicken was good but a bit too much sauce than chicken cubed pieces considering it was served in the traditional silver rice size bowl--same for the Malai Kofta (deep fried cheese balls in special saice). Parking is plentiful at the back of the restaurant including street parking on the side street. The bill came to $60 & a few change - very reasonable as we split the bill among 4 attendees - so it worked out to $17 per person including tips. We went mid afternoon on a Friday and had the place to ourselves. The place was warm on a chilly autum Raincover day. The decor is very pleasing and welcoming. We had butter chicken ( mild )which was smooth and delicious. Eggplant Bhartha ( spicy ) which had many layers of flavor and very pleasent. I thought the portions was a little small for the price. The Naan was to die for, we had garlic and spinach. The spinach naan was amazing. Hot, fluffy and savory. The garlic Nan also was very good. For desert we had the coconut nan, (Peshawri nan )which was a show stopper. The goodness was sublime, stuffed with coconut, rasins, pistashios, cashews and almonds. They have 14 vegetarian dishes. This is an extensive menu which I don't know how they could keep up. We were satisfied but I would try another resto next time. read more

We made reservations for our large group and arrived to find that they arranged the tables to accommodate all of us nicely. There were even pitchers of water already set on the tables. We ordered a variety of dishes and all of them were delicious. We didn't have to wait long for the food and they all arrived nicely staggered. The naan bread is always fresh and well done here. Everyone loved the fish pakoras that we started with. The service was good and attentive. They took our plates away appropriately and we didn't have to ask for anything, other than more naan :). My and my family tried this place last night and it was amazing. We had the vegetable pakoras and paneer pakoras to start and they were fresh seasoned to perfection. The staff was very friendly and polite seating and serving my family of 4. For our main dishes we had the malai kofta and palak paneer with garlic naan. This was the best malai kofta I have ever tried. I have been to many indian restaurants before but never tasted malai kofta this good. The kofta were soft and fresh. For desert we had the mango ice cream and galab jamun, again very tasty. I would definitely recommend this place, it was very clean, staff were polite, food was delicious. read more

I'm kinda bummed to be writing a two star review. It's not a good way to start a day, but last night after eating awesome Indian food I was reminded of the last time I had it... and how mediocre it was. It was, unfortunately, at Original Tandoori. Ambiance bordered on fine dining, and was very clean. The service was quite quick and reasonably attentive... but the food, was just not to the quality I would have expected. The spices felt under cooked, the butter chicken tasted like Campbells Tomato Soup and the naan was more like a cracker than a supple (if charred) piece of bread. It was just not good, even if it was well presented. With so much great Indian fare in the lower mainland, this place truly felt two star. read more

This place is literally a 45 second walk from my place and I've been there once in 8 years. My spicy vindaloo with no onions was ketchup with lots of big onions. They don't care. This place isn't worried about people dining in, something else keeps it open. At least the sign on the side is a good landmark. read more

We held my grandfather's 89th birthday dinner here and they managed to fit 30 of us in comfortably. We started with fish pakora, veg pakora, spinach naan and chili chicken. The portions were a good size and served hot. The server also ensured our drinks were full without asking. I was impressed by the cleanliness and quick service. Dirty dishes were removed without asking. For main we had palak paneer which had large pieces of paneer, mixed veg, butter chicken and lamb curry, raita. It was served with hot garlic naan and plain rice . I was impressed by the tenderness of the naan which showed they were made to order. Although stuffed some of us had room for gulab jaman which were served hot. The owner came to wish my grandfather a happy birthday which was nice. Great value. I have ordered from here for many years. But Unfortunately this place has gone down hill significantly. I ordered butter chicken and palak paneer a few months ago with garlic naan. There was barely any chicken in it and the naan looked dismal. The palak paneer was ok as it lacked masala. We complained and they didn't care to rectify the situation. We thought it may be a one off and so we ordered the same dishes again. Holy shiet the same thing again. This time even their butter chicken sauce tasted different. What upset my husband and I was the lady at the front counter who gave us our food when we picked it up was wearing a $200 T-shirt. So they can afford to wear such expensive clothes by cheating customers out on the main ingredient; chicken. What a shame cause we are not gonna order from here again. I came here with a group of friends based on their recommendation that this was one of the best places for Indian food in Vancouver. The interior of this restaurant is very classy. We started with a bottle of wine, and while they didn't have the original one we ordered in stock, they did give us one that was alright. Just so you know, if you only want a half liter of wine, the only wine available in that size is the house wine, which was quite good as well. We ordered a lot of dishes to share, including vegetable pakora's, garlic nan, tandoori wings, butter chicken, lamb tikka masala, steamed rice, palak paneer, and aloo gobhi. All of these dishes were fantastic, especially the butter chicken and vegetable pakora's. The tandoori wings were great too, and came to us steaming on a hot plate. All of us were overstuffed after the meal, and we still had leftovers. Considering all of the food and wine we ordered, our bill came to ~$125, which was reasonable. In terms of service, it was a bit slow, but I was really impressed by the memory of our one server. He took our entire dinner order without writing it down and didn't get anything wrong. So my friend and I stopped by this restaurant for lunch because we happened to be in the neighborhood for work and it came up highly recommended on Yelp. And I am so glad we did! I don't eat Indian food very often, no let me correct that - I've had it maybe twice in my life. So it is possible that this place has "westernized" Indian food adapted to tastes such as mine, but maybe not. The butter chicken, as ordered by my friend, was delicious, tasting like a spiced up creamy tomato soup. Once upon a time it was such an awesome place to go and eat, either dining in or taking out. Quality has gone totally down hill. Picked up takeout order today paid $83. Naan was hard not soft and edible. Had to throw half of them out. Two Indian tees had no masala in them, and were lukewarm. Currys were OK before the quantity used to be quite large that he would have enough for leftover. Definitely not the case anymore. You would think in this economy, and in this climate, Restaurants would step up their game. Seems they have become extremely complacent. Remember people don't have a lot of extra money now to go out and eat food or order takeout and this is how businesses go out of business. I would've expected things to be better and not gone from good to worse. Seriously you should really wake up and read your reviews. They're not that great and a lot of them complain about the same issue that I have just complained about that it has gone downhill. read more

Ordered the Fish Pakora Butter Chicken Garlic Naan Mixed Tandoori platter for $18.95 Vegetable Rice Fish was dry and tasteless, butter chicken was good but TINY - and I mean small. There were a total of 6 pieces of chicken in it. Mixed Tandoori platter was probably the biggest scam, lamb was pungent, chicken was ok - but for $18.95 it was ridiculously small. It was valentines day and when my friend and I got to our usual favourite middle eastern/Indian restaurant and found out there was a $55 set menu each we said forget it. It was already almost 7:30pm and we were starving and craving/set on Indian food. I heard a couple of really good things about this place and had been wanting to check it out for awhile so we google mapped it and off we went. First impression: Kind of smelt like pee but it looked decently clean. The menu had a lot of options so we decided to get the tandoori dinner which was a mix of all of their most popular items. Neither of us eat lamb so we asked to substitute for chicken. we also got the aloo gobi and we were both really excited to eat since we waited about half an hour for someone to take our order. When the food came we were both shocked. $18.95 for 5 small dinky little bowls of almost pure sauce, burnt roti bread, and about 3oz of dry chicken and half a cup of basamiti rice to split between the two of us. Not to mention the Aloo gobi was about 4 pieces of barely seasoned cauliflower for $10.95 and even though we asked for chicken we still got the lamb. Nobody came to ask us how our food was. After sharing what was already a $30.00 meal we were both still starving so I went to the front to order us more food since clearly nobody was coming to check up on us. I ordered the chicken curry and my friend ordered the butter chicken... another 13 dollars of sauce and 2oz of chicken each. I have never not tipped less than 10 percent and I am not one to write bad reviews or complain about food because I used to work in the service industry myself.. but this place was extremely disappointing. My friend and I left STILL hungry and broke. We could have gone to our usual place for almost the same amount of money for a 4 course meal. The only good thing I enjoyed about this place was the never ending water service from the young girl who seemed nice enough but wouldn't talk to us and the deep fried donut in rose water was pretty good too. In conclusion, my friend and I have spent all morning in the bathroom and we both feel like absolute crap today. I rate this place 1star and I will never go back here. read more

We flew into Vancouver to catch our cruise and wanted to hit the 'Punjabi Market' and try some finger licking food. All cabs and reviews took us to 'Original Tandoori Grill'. Though the ambience was ok we were greeted with a great smile of welcome. I would highly recommend the Mango Cider, Zeera Lassi, Naans and specially Keema Naan. Even the daal and paneer were great. I think the Tandoori Chicken was a little dry but you can order the curry on the side. There is a direct bus from downtown for fraction of the cost. I was a bit skeptical that this place had so many locations when I looked it up, since that sometimes means that food can be hit or miss. But a friend that had spent two months in India had heard good things, so we came in on a Thursday night to test it out. The place was near empty at 6pm, but quickly filled up as the night wore on. Our server was extremely nice, letting us switch to a larger table when last minute when more people showed up, and never rushing us out the door. The food selection was vast as well, we were so excited by all the choices! The five of us ate palak paneer, both the regular and garlic naan, vegetable pakora, half a tandoori chicken, fish curry, the prawn korma, and vegetable biryani. We ordered everything at medium spice, which pretty much set my mouth on fire. Even the palak paneer was spicy, which was a surprise to me. But the seasoning was amazing, and a little bit goes a long way - we had a lot of food left over, so I happily packed it for lunch the next day. The bill for the five of us came to $21 a person, a very reasonable meal since we were all stuffed. Definitely a great find in the city for Indian food! read more

I said can you suggest something from your experience for 50 people. The guy kept repeating and said I can't tell how many naans each person will have and I replied I cannot go to each and every person and ask how many naans they want. Then the guy hang-up on me. My order was placed online followed up by a phone called confirm and it was still wrong. Showed up at 530pm the specified time on my confirmation. However, they person in charge insisted I ordered delivery and that my order was already on the way to Richmond. She then tried to convince me that it was my mistake and that someone should open my door to receive the food. This is all while I'm standing in front of her. Not sure who she expected to open my apartment door. I pulled out my confirmation showing PICK UP here at this time. Waited another 30mins for the driver to come back with my lukewarm food. Unbelievably delicious vegetarian Thali. The naan was perfection. I could have made a meal of just their naan. Good and hot chai without the scorched milk taste. You get bonus points for that. I ate at this restaurant a few years ago and was really impressed by their food. Today, I was craving some Indian food and ordered delivery via Just Eat. I'm impressed that the food arrived right at 6:30, just as how the notification said it would. The food arrived nice and hot. One of the dishes I ordered was malai kofta. It was delicious! The sauce was rich and flavourful, not watery and the balls were nice and tender. I've had malai kofta from another place last month and they were tough. The lamb do piaza also tasted delicious but I wish the lamb was a bit more tender. Still enjoyed it though. I also ordered palak paneer which had generous chunks of paneer and had the perfect balance of heat and flavour. I'll definitely order from them again. read more

The place from the outside looked promising, however, I was very disappointed. Gareth and I wanted to try something different than our usual place on Main. The menu had it's normal Indian fair. They don't include rice or naan on the side. It would make sense that if you order a curry to combo it with a naan or nice option. These things are cheap to make, however, the curry's weren't cheap to begin with and then it was an additional $2 - $4 for approx 3/4 C rice and or 1 single naan. I wasn't even seated for 2 minutes and they asked if I was ready to order, however, when I said I needed a few minutes, apparently a few minutes become 12 minutes. When I was informed that there was no side I needed a few minutes to make a secondary choice but instructed the waitress to put Gareth's order in the kitchen to get it started, however, the waitress didn't come back for a long time. A co-worker suggested this place and it happened to be in the Punjabi Market area where we wanted to visit and near commercial drive. We had a nice lunch here. We ordered a dinner combo to allow us to try a bunch of items, an order of samosas, and the chili kebab appetizer. THe kebab was our favorite. All the items were very good and it was a fun experience. We walked around the area afterwards and looked around the fabric shops and ate in one of the sweets shops nearby. read more

It's much nicer than a typical Indian restaurants. We were again surprised that food was really reasonably priced. Everything we ordered was very tasty and service was friendly. Even though the decor isn't the greatest (yes Indian restaurants can be tacky at times lol) this place has some good food. Me and my family have come here numerous times with guests from out of town and everyone has always enjoyed it. I brought my asian bros from another mother and he loved it too. It's pretty authentic, although it is pricey! I ordered prawns and they were $20! Indian restaurants can get pricey so it's good to share. This is not mall indian food that you can get on a budget. lol The service here is pretty good as well. It is SMALL, so take that with a grain of salt. This is probably one of my favs for indian in South Vancouver. If you want something fancier with ambiance with more space for a crowd, go to Tasty Bistro in Surrey! read more
