While there are 3 locations around Bakersfield, this one is my absolute favorite! They have a large seating area for big groups, a party room, outdoor seating with a really cool fire display, and your traditional ice cream "bar" seating. They have tons of options from sundaes, to shake, splits, and just plain old ice cream too! They also have a candy area and locally iconic dessert chews (peppermint, peanut, and other flavors too!) Their servings are hefty so come with an appetite or request it in a to-go cup. read more

So many options it was hard to choose. Service was fast and the place has that classic vibe. The bright 80s colors with the 50s feel. I do wish they had some lactose intolerant options, but that's cool. The kids loved it. They have a soda fountain and candies also. The parking lot is small and weirdly built but as long as you watch your surroundings you should be good read more

Drove through the drive-thru at doors to get a Sunday. They gave me a small cup which wasn't even 8 oz with a scoop of peanut butter and chocolate. I asked him for no whip topping and I got absolutely no toppings on it. They charged me $10 $16 in some odd cents for it and they gave me two small containers of almonds on the side to put on it but had no syrup. No Cherry no nothing on the Sunday. I will never patronize doors again. That was the most crappy Sunday I've ever seen and the peanut butter ice cream wasn't even peanut butter. I don't know what it was but it wasn't peanut butter. The chocolate was right but the peanut butter wasn't and for me to spend $17 at your establishment and get called to tell you and you wouldn't even help me. I am thoroughly disgusted with you. I will be shopping and patronizing Rosemary's and it will be all over the internet. It's very sad that you treat your customers like this and I have lived in bakers so my whole life and it was $16.89 for two scoops of ice cream. Very very sad. That sound okay? We couldn't find the original store so we came to this store. I used to order their floats, but tried the ice cream this time. It was good! I ordered the small sundae (2 scoops) and couldn't finish it. No regrets trying it. This place is easy to find, and the parking is quite easy since there's a parking lot in front. The waiters and waitresses were very friendly. Our server, Tristen, was very nice! She had a sweet smile and very patient and thorough answering our questions, introducing what's good. There weren't a lot of people when we first got there, but slightly over half way through our desserts, people started to float in. She would check up on us from time to time making sure everything was fine. She just made our day. Highly recommended this place. read more

Came to Dewars on a busy Saturday night and thankfully we were able to get a table right away. We request Mikey to be our server because he is truly the best! He does such a great job making malts which is our favorite item to order. Sometimes there can be chunks of malt powder in it if it isn't mixed properly, but with Mikey that never happens. Dewars is a great place to bring the family but also for date night and the portions are very large so we always share! read more

This is the best Dewar's location, with the old school layout. The ice cream lives up to its reputation (my favorite would have to be English Toffee when I'm on the go) If you wanted to dine in, try the black and white with crushed almond topping. Everyone there is a pleasure to be around. This place is a Bakersfield legendary staple. With currently three locations and one on the way on the West side .... There's a location for mostly everyone. I think East side is missing a convient location though. The service was great ... loved how the wait staff greets you at your table automatically with cups of water. Perfect on a hot summer day. I first want to thank our waitress, Sulema, for looking out for us. We were sat in the bar area because there were no seats available. She overheard me telling my son that I didn't want to sit there due to my back issues; I had just gotten out of the hospital. Sulema didn't know that, but all she heard was that I didn't want to sit there and that we might go to Baskin Robbins across the street. She kindly said, "You don't want to go to Baskin Robbins; we have the best ice cream here." I laughed and said okay. We stood for a bit, and then she offered us a table as soon as one became available, which she did. I had ordered the wrong ice cream and told her. She was very polite and said, "No worries," and replaced it with what I originally wanted. Sulema didn't give me any attitude; she was very polite and welcoming. I wasn't feeling great, and she made my day. Thank you, Sulema, and sorry if I was a little difficult. The Strawberry Special was very good, just how I like it with the extra toppings. Great atmosphere! Everyone should come to this location on Calloway. I will definitely be back again. My son's sundae was good as well. Keep up the good work, Sulema; you will go far in life. read more

Since there doesn't seem to be many reviews about their kids parties, I thought I'd make one! 100% recommend! My daughter had her 6th birthday there and it was perfect! There's a bounce house, large floor pianos, air hockey, bowling game, and it's all contained in a smaller room that's visible to parents sitting in the next room. Kids can play for an hour and then go into the next room for food. Then you get 20 kids Sundays with the package, and can get more added if more people want one. There's someone there who helps serve and clean up too! There's Chewy who comes to visit too! It was a super awesome experience for my daughter! read more

Essential stop! Dewars has been a favorite of mine since childhood. Although I no longer live in Bakersfield, I make it a point to visit whenever I'm passing through to indulge in my favorite treats. The store's retro ambiance adds a wonderful touch of nostalgia. The staff was super friendly, made sure we were hydrated, and got the spot we wanted. I usually go for the classic taffy chews in peanut butter, peppermint, and caramel, but my top choice is the sizable Strawberry Special--blended with strawberries, bananas, almonds, and vanilla ice cream, it's like a little slice of heaven served in two cups because it's so big. This time, I went for another favorite the peppermint bark ice cream, a perfect mix of creaminess and peppermint, I wish I could take tubs back home with me it hasn't lost its homemade taste since I was a kid. We also got my cousin's beloved George's Special, similar to the Strawberry but with chocolate. She loved it so much she married a man named George haha okay maybe for other reasons but still... It was telling since was a kid. Definitely a 10/10 experience every time. read more

My wife brought home their taffy. Then we ordered two pound online. Now, we are HOOKED. Hands down the freshest, best tasting, most unique taffy we've ever had. We moved to Bakersfield in 1985 and left in 1990. We loved Bakersfield but job required a move. Whenever we travel through Bakersfield we stop at El Sombrero and Dewars. When I run out of Chews, we just do an online order. Oh, and my Father in Law, who watches our house when we are gone, he gets a box of Chews and some Olives from the Olive Pit. One ice cream experience was enough to figure out why Dewar's showed up as no. 1 ice cream parlor in Bakersfield. Plenty of outdoor seating in the patio and they even have a tent set up in the parking lot. Staff was one of the friendliest I have ever met! Service was super fast, they were really really busy but we got taken care of in minutes. Everyone was wearing masks. The ice cream itself was amazing. We just got 1 sundae. The ice cream was rich, creamy and smooth. What really makes it different than other places is the crushed nuts (of your choice) on top. We got almonds. The crushed almonds paired so well with the vanilla and the chocolate scoop. read more

Dewars is a Bakersfield staple! It's the first place our out-of-town friends ask for and the thing you crave in our 110° summers. I love that there have been more locations popping up all over town as Bakersfield expands. This location is HUGE! We actually attended and held a birthday party here recently. There is a side entrance with 2 adjoining party rooms. One room has a few arcade games and a full size bounce house. It also has a giant floor piano. You get access to this room for 1 hour. The other room has cafeteria style tables where you have the second hour of the party to eat, open presents, etc. The party is pretty pricey. We booked it to avoid the summer heat, but I'm not sure we will do it again. You get 20 children's sundaes & 20 goody bags with the package. The mascot Chewy is supposed to come out with a shirt for the birthday kid, but we had to ask at the last 5 mins if he was coming. He also forgot her shirt. Treats are always the same so I love that you can know what to expect when ordering. While we likely won't do a party here again, we will be back for ice cream. read more

The cafe is located in a plaza with ample parking spots, and the employees I interacted with were polite and efficient. I ordered a Turkish coffee and thought it was a great version of the drink; it may have been small in size, but it had a potent flavor. There was a good amount of indoor seating, and I could see this cafe being a fine spot to linger in for a while.

Literally only had a bite and had to throw them away because they tasted so bad. We also got their cookies for dogs and even our dogs didn't want anything to do with them. I might give them another try in the future, but for now, it was definitely a NO.

Overall everything tasted pretty good, the strawberries were very fresh, good amount of banana as well. As mentioned by another review the waffle is cooked fresh so the ice cream does melt on it quickly it's not something that travels well. My wife liked hers as well, she said the cookie was a little meh but the ice cream and toppings were good.
