Review update: I am updating my original 1-star review (see below) to 4-stars due to the branch manager, Jayson's, very sincere and concerned response to my complaints. He tried very avidly to get ahold of me and do what he could to make it right. He talked to my husband and expressed his apologies and explained that due to turnover at the company communication had been overlooked. He generously offered to waive the double bagging fee and helped offer compensation for our damaged property. My husband and I were very impressed at his willingness to go above and beyond to help correct the situation. I do believe that this was a one-time issue and feel like in the future Dewey pest control would be a good choice for termite fumigation. Original Post- The following is an e-mail I wrote to Dewey Pest Control after my recent termite fumigation: I'd just like to let you know that my husband and I are very concerned and unhappy at the lack of communication and professionalism by Dewey Pest Control throughout our recent fumigation and dry rot repair.  We received no call before the dry rot repair to inform us what to expect and how to prepare.  The day before, I ended up reaching out to you to ask if there was anything we needed to do/know.  I was informed that there was no prep needed for dry rot repair.  When I asked about prep for the fumigation, I was reassured several times that the worker coming out for the dry rot repair would go over all of the prep needed for the fumigation.  I clarified several times because I found it strange that there was no information given to us yet about this upcoming fumigation and I've heard it takes a lot of prep work.  Unfortunately, this did not happen. The worker did not go over anything with my husband when he came the next day.  The dry rot repair went smoothly but the worker did not return to retrieve all of the extra wood like he said he would.  It has been laying on top of my toddlers' backyard play equipment since he left.  He also just handed over the bags for food prep for fumigation without going over how to use them.  This resulted in us incurring an extra $100 fee because we didn't realize we needed to double bag the food. That day, my husband was instructed to sign the fumigation notice without anyone from your company going over the document with him.  He signed it after briefly looking through it.  However, there were many important points that needed a professional to highlight and explain.  I expect more customer service from a company like Dewey Pest Control. When we returned, we were very unhappy to find that our gas was turned off and we could not get it turned back on for several days because SDG&E was closed.  While this was in the document, you should have gone through this with us in person (or over the phone) to be sure that we understood what needed to be done on our part to avoid this.  We also came home to shattered glass from our string lights covering the patio.  This is especially concerning since I have two toddlers that run around barefoot in that area on a daily basis.  Also upsetting was the fact that our buddha statue on top of our house - a very sentimental and special piece to us - was broken off.  We aren't even sure where the rest of the statue is. I plan on leaving this e-mail as a review on yelp so other customers are aware of this lack of communication and professionalism.  I will also be sending it to your corporate office.  You can share it with your supervisors as well.  I expect quality companies to be sure that important points such as the possibility of damage, clear prep work instructions, and gas line expectations are covered abundantly and clearly with the customer before the service.  These things should not solely be mentioned in tiny print in a document sent over the day before. read more

I have been using Dewey Pest control for over 5 years. In the last year their customer service has really gone down hill. I have 4 different properties with them and they couldn't find my account, Gave me the run around for treatments, kept referring me to different offices, and billed me inconsistently. Would call me to bill me when they had my credit card on file. I have canceled my accounts and I and would not recommend this company. read more

Absolutely unacceptable behavior from staff. My husband and I recently opened a business down the road and discovered a rodent issue in the building. Based on recommendations from nearby business owners, I drove to Dewey Pest Control in Pacific Beach to introduce myself and schedule an inspection. Unfortunately, what happened instead was disturbing and completely unprofessional. Google Maps directed me to a nearby lot to park, and almost immediately after parking, an employee on the other side of the fence began yelling, cussing, and aggressively demanding I move my car. I apologized and explained I wasn't sure where else to park. Rather than de-escalating, he threatened me and pulled his truck behind my car to block me in. I told him I couldn't leave while he was behind me, but he continued berating me--screaming, calling me names, and refusing to let me go. Eventually, a manager came out and told him to move so I could leave. I was so shaken I had a full panic attack in my car and had to pull over for 30 minutes before I could drive again. I never even got the chance to walk into the building. I was simply trying to introduce myself as a local business owner and get a quote during normal business hours. The way I was treated was threatening, hostile, and inexcusable. No one should be subjected to that kind of behavior, especially from someone representing a company. read more

We live in Tierrasanta and have been in our home for 27 years. Marco at Dewey's Pest Control has been doing an outstanding job for our HOA in Villa Dominique. What an amazing, knowledgeable, practical employee . Recently, we have had the worst ant invasion ever. Marco came right over yesterday and took care of the ants inside and out and not one found ant alive as of today. Thank you. read more

You will be put under contract and you're STUCK! my father passed away last month and I explained this to them and they insist on continuing the service and im having to pay despite an unoccupied house!!! My Pest Control tech, Reggie is trying to show me a picture of a bug after I asked him not to, but he's great anyway. My residents love seeing him on our property and he takes care of whatever gross bugs I find for me. Bugs are gross and Reggie is not. We love Reggie. Chris Purdy is okay too. Dewey consistently beats the price of services from competitors in the area, and offer a better quality of service with knowledgeable technicians and helpful and courteous account managers and administrative staff. Highly reccommend looking into using Dewey Pest Control to service your properties in the San Diego and surrounding areas. read more

I called Br 32 and spoke to Representative Nelly. I needed a termite inspection for a VA loan. She was so helpful and knowledgeable. She went above and beyond my expectations. I had called 2 other companies and received poor service . I hired one and never got the report. She made arrangements for inspection same day and would have the report to me the next day!!! This is amazing customer service without follow up for weeks. I can highly recommended this company and greatly appreciate her putting in the extra effort to help out a customer. She made my day. No complaints about their technicians or service, but I'm quitting as a 15 year customer because of shady billing practices. Dewey Branch 16, managed by Elias, just sent TWO monthly service increase postcards (over a 10% increase) with NO advanced notice then required that I pay the increased fee because I need to give THEM 30 day notice to quit the service. The monthly cost has become too high for the services rendered. UPDATE: After assuring me that my final bill would be corrected, Dewey billed me the highest monthly charge ever, after I terminated service with them. read more

they came to our apartment and told us they would be here from 12-2 and we weren't able to be in the apartment so we changed our whole schedule to be out the house that time it was harder with a dog as well but was able to make appointments for him so he was out the house as well but they ended up coming at 3pm once we finished the appointmentd was ready to finally go home and we were not able to go back home untill 7:00pm our dog was hungry because he dinner is at 5PM and we expected to be home and we were all tired and had no were to go read more

In February, 2021, we paid for (through our realtor) and were inspected for termites by their inspector, Joseph G., and found to be termite-free. We relied on their report in paying a premium for our new home. Six months later, we had termites coming through our HVAC system and in multiple locations in our house. Tenting and remediation was $5000. Multiple termite colonies do not suddenly arise over six months. Their inspection was lousy or perhaps non-existent. Bottom line...do not use or rely on these people for your termite inspection. Find somebody else. read more

Over the decades we've had a few different pest control companies under yearly contracts (mostly for web control/termite inspection). I can't tell you how pleased we are with Vince and the customer service staff at Dewey Pest Control. Vince arrived on time; was professional, courteous and kind. He did an amazing job of de-webbing the exterior of our home and was great in explaining the differences (and choice) of the applications they use for this service. Thank you, Vince. I'm updating my review because I want to commend Dewey Pest Control for their consistent and professional service. That is also due in part because of our guy, Frank. Frank has been an absolute joy to work with. He provides exceptional service. He answers all my questions, and makes sure to go into detail so that I too am learning something which helps me to explain to my residents. He's kind, easy to work with and he goes above and beyond what is expected of him. He does his job and lets us know if there's anything going on to keep our property in tip-top shape! I know that if something needs to get done, it is because Frank is on top of his game and already knows what to do. He is extremely efficient and a definite asset to Dewey Pest Control. Great company, wonderful service. Our HOA uses them. We had a mouse problem in our new home and those snap traps were not working... The technician, Michael, came out and did a thorough check and gave his recommendation on getting rid of the mouse; very nice guy btw. He even checked our attic space and said it was very clean and no sign of nests. Came a week later and checked up on us like he said he would. Also sprayed outside our home a few times because of this awful intermittent ant problem we seem to have. read more

CAUTION: Dewey Pest Control subcontracts their FUMIGATION services to Mega Fume. Before hiring Dewey, search Yelp for Mega Fume and read the reviews. My house was burglarized on April 28 during fumigation. 13 of the first 39 reviews on Yelp for Mega Fume are written by victims of a fumigation burglary (in just the last 5 years). There is likely someone working at Mega Fume who is providing information on dates and locations of fumigated properties. My burglars knew EXACTLY where to cut through the tent to access a side door (which is not in public view). Coincidentally, the deadbolt on the door that was broken into was NOT LOCKED by the Mega Fume worker. When the police and I inspected the door, the door handle was broken and forced open, however, the deadbolt was working perfectly and had not been tampered with. I don't believe in coincidences. When I spoke with the branch manager at Dewey's De Soto Street location, Jaime told me that mine was the first burglary he was aware of in 14 years. Really?! Does he ever read Yelp or watch the news on TV? When I offered a suggestion that Dewey offer their customers a security option to have a guard watch their property, Jaime replied, "I think they tried that already, but it didn't work out. But I will bring it up in a management meeting." That was the extent of his concern for customers who are victimized. During my communications with the SDPD detective I was told that the PD electronic records only go back 10 years, but that there were 11 burglaries involving Mega Fume fumigated properties in the city of San Diego during that period. WARNING: IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING FUMIGATION, FIND OUT WHO THE SUBCONTRACTOR IS AND DO YOUR HOMEWORK TO SEE IF THEIR CUSTOMERS ARE VICTIMS OF THIS COMMON TYPE OF BURGLARY! read more

Customer service here is awful. Our apartment complex had roaches, so even though my apartment did not have any we allowed them to place baits to be proactive. The paperwork I signed from Dewey said I will need to be out of he apartment for 4 hours. This paperwork was specific to roach baits. I asked the technician when he arrived, and he said no we do not need to be out for four hours, that's only for spraying. That is annoying as is, since I took a whole day off work so I could get my dog out of the apartment for 4 hours; maybe they should change the wording on their paperwork. Then, I called Dewey's phone number to verify that I don't need to be out for four hours, to make sure that my dog is okay being back in the apartment. The woman on the phone was extremely rude. She told me that I need to call my leasing office, because they will know if it's safe to go back in the apartment. Not sure how they would know that better than the pest control company, but okay. I'm upset over this customer service because, more than anything, I was calling to find out if it is safe for myself and my pet to enter our home. This is a safety and health issue, I just wanted to verify that we can enter or not, and she was very rude and kept telling me that she can't or won't help me. read more

We're short term rentals and had a bed bug scare (where are these bites coming from??!). We called Dewey Pest Control in the morning and they agreed to send someone out the same day - we were really happy they were able to accommodate us on such short notice. Karl from Dewy Pest Control came to check on our apartment no more than a few hours after our first initial call, at the beginning of the time window they gave us. Karl was extremely professional and did a very thorough inspection of our unit (not just the bedroom) while explaining exactly what he was looking for. Luckily, he said we did not have a bed bug problem which was a relief. The inspection was free which I thought was a really nice business model. I let the landlord know of our experience so if they do have a problem in the future (hopefully not!) they know who they can trust. Thanks Karl! read more

Excellent service. Mark and Art have been servicing my apartment building in downtown and have always gone above and beyond. Mark has gone on to management but has made sure the transition with Art at our community was smooth. Marco is the technician that came in my office to offer the services and was very patient with our office as we changed companies. Honestly if you are looking for good pest control, don't shop here. We had Ricardo out, who deemed himself incredibly useless. He was incredibly lazy, and refused to service the home while I was home. We had ants flooding in our home, and i couldn't vacate. I offered to stay in a. Different room in the house while he treated and offered to sign a waiver but he just laughed in my face and told me I needed to reschedule. Incredibly rude. Unfortunately for the tech, I worked in the pest control field, and know that something could have definitely been done, like offering a simple gel bait, that can be be left on the floor walls while I maintain in my home. When calling the office staff they where incredibly rude and unhelpful and said they couldn't get someone out for 7 days. Which is way too long to live with ants. Absolutely trash company, and as someone who has worked in the field, I strongly advise you put your money to some place a little more professional. read more

***DO NOT GO HERE*** I was scammed by this company into a contract and they would skip every other month of service. When I called they blamed it on various reasons. They pretended to said they have no documentation that I called prior complaining about them not coming out. When i quit my service they would call everyday and demand that i do another treatment and racked up all these charges from no where. I would take my business anywhere else but them. If you take a look at my reviews I don't have many bad reviews so you can imagine. How i found out that they weren't servicing my house was the ant problems came back and was never remedied.
