My wife and I were out for a date night and she picked Dewey's Pizza for dinner. She had been once before but this was my first time. The restaurant is right in the heart of downtown Edwardsville and is in an old brick building. The interior is neatly decorated in somewhat of an industrial style. The kitchen has a glass wall that faces the dining area and the kitchen staff was hard at work making pizzas. We were immediately greeted and shown to a table. Looking over the menu of specialty pizzas, there were several that caught my eye, we chose the Ryan's Inferno. This a buffalo chicken pizza and was something we both thought sounded good. Our pizza didn't take long to arrive at our table and it looked good. The crust was crispy and tasted good and the toppings were good as well. Just because the name has "inferno" in it doesn't mean it was spicy. It had great buffalo flavor without setting your face on fire. The perfect pizza size for two people (13'')! Felt like I never wasn't eating, the pizza was very good. Easy to fold too! The sausage was interesting, more disc like instead of crumbled, and I loved it! Tasted more meaty. Having two veggies and two meats really balanced the flavor well. Dewey's is so good! I usually get the Ryan's Inferno pizza, but the pepperoni is great, too! It's fun to watch the kitchen staff make the dough and pizzas through the glass! The wait staff is excellent - the servers check on every table. I think it's a very interesting and ingenious approach to customer service. I also appreciate the raised serving plate thing on each table - no sauce on your shirt sleeve or grease stains! The ambiance is chill - the lighting is cool and it's very relaxed. My wife & I stopped in for lunch today. We ordered a sausage & mushroom pizza, but were given sausage & pepperoni. The waiter was apologetic, told us to keep the pizza, & he'd bring us what we ordered. Not only did they comp the wrong pizza, they also comped the original order. A business that takes responsibility for their mistakes & treats their customers with this kind of service deserves more of my business! And, the pizzas were both great tasting! Fits the niche of gourmet pizza to a T. Completely outperformed places like Dominos or Pizza Hut, and can handily compete with others in its own niche. It's not cheap, but on some level that's a given, and for what you're getting out of it it's amazing. Service is good, unusually good, they certainly know what they're doing. The ambiance is in line with most restaurants, if slightly less formal due to pizza often being a food you eat with your hands. Still definitely a place you could bring a date to and not embarrass yourself. Dewey's pizza is the best place in Edwardsville to go for pizza! No competition. What I ordered: we got half of the Socrates revenge and half veggie. The pizza is prepared so well. The toppings are always even and plentiful. My favorite things about their pizza are the sauce and the crust. The sauce is never overwhelming and the crust tastes just like yummy breadsticks. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because the harvest salad I ordered was a bit of a disappointment. To be fair, I asked for no bacon, but I ask for no meat everywhere I go and the salad still normally fills me up. This one did not. read more

Its re-used storefront sign, transformed and refurbished, is a nice touch in a community that values its heritage. It also subtly invites comparison with the venerable Kriege Hardware that occupied this space for decades. Kriege was one of those old-school hardware stores that seemed to carry every nut, washer, and screw you could ever need, and took pride in personally and quickly matching a product to your project. That community memory probably influenced the mental notes I made during my first visit to Dewey's. I imagine that the staff receives a heavy dose of coaching about "teamwork," as evidenced by the way everyone worked together: we received drink refills from three different servers, and were instructed that we could pay through any of them. I thought I might have a felt a little high anxiety, as each seemed to be looking out of the corner of his or her eye for ways to be helpful, especially in sharing the clearing of tables. In terms of friendliness and helpfulness, the staff was fine. Others have written about the food, and I'll just say that the house salad was very good, and the calzone good. I am gluten-free. My husband and I ordered a salad and gluten-free Bronx bomber. The salad was delicious but the pizza was simply horrible. We've had the gf pizza there on a few occasions and it's pretty good. This was not! The crust was so hard it was almost inedible. There were ingredients thrown on top of what appeared to be a reheated pre-cooked pizza. The cheese was melded into place below the ingredients thrown on top tumbling off of the warmed up pre-cooked pizza. Absolutely not acceptable! It will be a long time before we choose Dewey's again if ever. Joes is consistently delicious. They will get our business. The salad would get 5 stars but the pizza brings the rating down to 2 stars. read more

Pizza is good but not over the top. Make sure you examine any food you pick up curbside. We were given small salads instead of the large salads we paid for. Four weeks later, no refund yet. The refund had to go through a corporate office?? All this after, calling THREE times and speaking to two managers and finally contacting the corporate office myself. I will not go to Dewey's again! I generally have no complaints with the food or service with Deweys. We've been customers for years. Tonight we ordered our general usual. We ordered our peppercorn ranch salad no bacon, onion, tomato. I get home and have a bowl of lettuce and a side of dressing. So I call and just let them know. No big deal my husband is gonna pick up a remade salad on the way home from work. Husband gets home, and brings me a salad with all items including bacon. Generally wouldn't be an issue but we are vegetarians. So I call and give a heads up and ask if we can just have a refund for the salad. I'm told we weren't charged for the second salad. I then Clarified for the salad in general. The girl who answered said she would refund but had an attitude about it by the end of the call. I'm not one to make negative Yelp reviews. But moving forward we will happily serve other local pizza establishments. The attitude was really unnecessary. read more

I pre-ordered a large catering order to be picked up at 11:45 one morning. We were supposed to have a snow storm the night before which would mean I would no longer need my order. I called and spoke with Kyle (manager) the day of the snow storm and discussed the scenario. The next morning the snow was not what they expected, so I still needed my food. Kyle called me that morning to make sure I still needed the food. He said they were opening later that day at noon, but his kitchen staff agreed to come in early and have my food ready still by 11:45. Kyle & the staff completely saved my day that day!! The team I presented to that day LOVED the pizza and I received kudos for bringing it to them!! I don't know a restaurant anywhere, anymore, that has that kind of service!! I will be back!! I came back to my review to give an update. Dewey's in Edwardsville still gets a 5 star review from my household. If I could give more stars I would. We continue to love the quality and service we receive when we go to Deweys. The other night we had exceptional service. We ordered a Ryan's Inferno without celery or red onion for takeout. My husband got there to pick it up and Kyle one of the host, realized they had forgotten to remove the red onion. He apologized profusely and said it would only take them 10 minutes to make a new one. He gave us the wrong one to keep as well as the new one and gave us a $25 gift card for the trouble. My husband told him that he didn't need to do that, but he insisted. This place is top notch. read more
