Overpriced. Microwaved. Dry. I don't have anything good to say about this place. The "chicken stix" on the kids menu are just cheap, microwaved chicken nuggets. They will charge you $.90 if your child wants anything other than the bbq sauce on the table for those nuggets. But you do get soft served ice cream with your meal. The food is good and I like the drive thru option. However, I can't stand BBQ place that charges for BBQ. Most people want to enjoy their BBQ with sauce, so it should be include in the price of the meal. Not at Dexter BB-Q. They believe it should be extra and that's if they give it to you at all. Tonight my order was very much a inconvenience and disappointment, I paid for a full bottle of sauce and it was not in the bag when I arrived home. Some people will say "it's your own fault because you did not check your order before you left". No I did not because all I wanted to do is get home. Furthermore when I started to check the rest of my order no cup of sauce with my brisket, food cold and twice baked potato was not at all what I expected. The first time I tried Dexter Bar B Que was in Dexter two years ago and I never forgot how good it was. This location in Poplar Bluff did not disappoint. The dining room was not packed but the drive thru had MANY cars in line. I got the loaded baked potato with pulled pork. The potato was perfectly baked and the pulled pork had a wonderful sweet and slight smokey flavor. I'm a fan of Carolina BBQ so I added the NC Mustard sauce and was in heaven. Service was very fast and the waitress was a sweetheart. I will be returning when I am back in PB or Dexter!! read more

I really love Dexter BBQ but it is very upsetting that they charge for little tubs of BBQ sauce in the drive thru. Inside they give it away freely but ask for it at the drive thru and you pay the price of gold for it. $1.80 for a tablespoon of sauce. If you question the worker you can tell they have been instructed to NEVER give BBQ sauce. I can spend $50 and still have to pay for the sauce. Walked in Saturday evening. The first table we tried to sit at was dirty so we had to move. When our food got there my husbands brisket, which is pricey, didn't look right. Come to find out it was beef roast. He complained to the manager and after arguing with him he just laughed and walked away. He did even admit it looked very dry for a brisket. What kind of manager does that? Didn't offer to give us our money back at all. You could clearly differentiate between my brisket and his roast. The place is going downhill. Obviously their business is slacking. We won't be back. Not only do they try to fool you with roast beef instead of brisket but their customer service is very poor. read more

I wasn't too thrilled by this restaurant. You order immediately when you walk in, and get your own drink rather than being served by waitstaff. The first glass I grabbed still had lipstick on the rim. I ordered the beef brisket, and got the green beans and baked potato for sides. The brisket was very fatty, but after picking it all off the meat was good. The green beans were canned and very soft. A few people in my family ordered the brisket sandwiches and were disappointed. First, they forgot to add the slaw to the sandwiches. The sandwiches were small, the meat itself was also very fatty, and they had to pay extra to get a side. I have to say that I was a bit turned off when I drove up because it looks like one of those national chain stores. Upon ordering we found out that we arrived a bit late because they were out of ribs so I ordered the brisket plate. When it got to the table I noted that it was a bit small and mostly fat. The server returned with a MUCH larger portion but not before I had a chance to try the ABSOLUTELY BEST TASTING brisket fat that I have EVER had, and I have eaten a LOT of BBQ. The smoky/sweet woody flavor rolled around in the back of my mouth as I SAVORED it! I've sampled many of their items. Their BBQ is very good. They serve BBQ chicken on certain days of the week and it is very good as well. Their portion sizes are very large. You will not leave hungry. They offer free ice cream for diners. Their smoked turkey was good if you are looking for something healthier. All the sides they offer are good as well aside from the potato salad which is made with mayonnaise instead of mustard, so if you aren't a mayo fan...avoid that. Otherwise great place. I like that they have a drive-thru as I prefer to take my order to go rather than dining in since they are a fast food serve yourself type place. Went to Dexter's with some of my coworkers for dinner. The restaurant was nearly empty with only one table occupied when we arrived at approx 6pm. Service was extremely fast. Highlights include the rib meat melt, pulled pork and fried corn. The pulled pork had nice flavor and was tender and moist. We liked the variety of sauces, sweet & smoky, mustard, vinegar and hot. Several in our group got ribs and were disappointed. The ribs were low quality with numerous shiners (rib bone showing through the meat). The ribs were seasoned well however they were dried out and tuff. The Cajun fries also disappointed as it appeared and tasted as if half a bottle of seasoning was used. While my group found Dexter's to be average several locals we know rave about it. read more
