I told the person answering the phone who I was, my current lack of insurance and asked what they charged. She told me that if I was an AARP member I could get the exam for $59. I went ahead and joined AARP, went to my exam and when found out that I had cataracts. I knew that this was my situation as I was told that they were starting 3 years ago at my exam. All of this should have been in my chart as I was a long term patient. Went to check out and I wanted to process through the AARP. They insisted I needed to run it through my BCBS Medical deductible plan which I knew I would end up paying out of pocket as I had not met my deductible. Today I received the bill from them for $141.57 for the eye exam. When I called to discuss the situation, Karen in billing was not at all helpful, but she was rude and condescending. So much for shopping "local". I will be taking my money elsewhere.
