Stopped by to pick hot and sour soup. This is soup basically knorr soup with veggies(see pictures). Same gelatinous texture you get from packaged powder mix soup. We recently catered from this restaurant for our event. First of all, it's best to look at their restaurant menu to order what items you want and then call them for pricing. You can also visit them in person for pricing. They do not have a catering menu. For appetizers, we ordered large tray of Jashan Murgh Tikka (mild spice level) and large tray of assorted pakora platter (excluding chili pakora). The muegh Tikka was alright, could have used more flavor. We wanted to make sure our guests could enjoy it since most were non Indians. We specifically said no chili pakora to be included and half the 1/3 of the pakora tray was chili pakora. One of the guests hearkened to eat one and was gasping for water. We found out later the guy who took our order didn't right down that important clarification. The other pakora were okay. Some were too fried. We were quite disappointed. For entrees, we ordered: - large tray of Palak paneer - this was the best entree because there were enough paneer pieces in the palak gravy - medium tray of Aloo gobi ghar ki - this was also decent - large tray of Jashan Murgh Makhani (mild) - was a bit disappointing in the amount of chicken that was in the makhani sauce. More than half was just gravy; not enough meat and this tray costed $160. That's too expensive! - large tray of Jashan garlic naans - good - large tray of Shahi Jeera rice - as expected - medium tray of Veg hakka noodles (mild) - decent but the noodles went bad within couple of hours and we had to throw all of it. I'm not sure why that happened. We called the restaurant and shared our concerns about the food and they didn't offer any refund but said they would fry up some chicken for the leftover gravy from the Jashan murgh makhani. I guess it better than nothing. My advice for this restaurant is when the customer is giving you specific instructions about the food, please take down all details. Don't give us excuses afterwards that the person taking the order forgot. What if our guest got sick from eating the chili pakora? Also, how can food go bad that quickly? We've been ordering from this restaurant for years and recommended them to other family and friends as well. I've always thought their food was excellent and that's why we chose them for catering our event. Now, I'll have to reconsider whether I will use them for catering again. read more

I went to Dhaba Express with my husband. We had our doubts as the place looked tiny. But our doubts were cleared as we ate our lunch. For an appetizer, we ordered malai chap and it was delicious - heavy and creamy. For the main course, we order double dal tadka and tandoori roti and the dal tadka brought so many memories from India. It felt so comforting. We were craving for home cooked style food, so we decided to have lunch at Dhaba Express. For starters, we ordered karkari bhindi, and raaj kachori. They have the best karkari bhindi!!!! For main course we ordered aloomethi ki sabji and malai kofta with garlic naan. It came with white rice and onions and chilli salad. Naan were freshly made and steaming hot with dripping butter!!!!! The first bite of aloomethi with naan brought me to heaven!!! Real home cooked with perfect Indian spicy taste.!!!! Can not beat that. The kofta was real Dhaba style with real aloo, paneer and sabji, not fake kofta made with bread. The atmosphere was real Dhaba style. For dessert we ordered ras malai. Parsippany is fortunate to have so many great Indian Restuarnts and Dhaba Express is just one of the many places I have found that has really great food. This review is based on two recent visits to Dhaba Express, which is located on Route 46 East between Vail and Baldwin Road. Visit #1 - After viewing the menu, deciding was not easy with so many great picks to choose from. The menu online https://onefork.nyc/menu/dhaba-express was easy to navigate and offered vegan, vegertain, and non vegertain options. While not a vegan or vegetarian, always happy to see places that offers these options. We started with the Onion Kulcha and the Dhaba Special Somosas for an appatizer. For the main dishes, we ordered the Aloo Gobhi Ghar Ki (Potatoes and Cauliflower, Fenugreek) This was ordered from the vegan menu and was very tasty for the one who requested it. I ordered the Murgh Tikka (Skewered Chicken Thighs, Red Marinade) which was really tasty. As we also ordered the Egg Hakka noodles off their Indo Chinesse menu which also offers a lot of variety. All in all, it was a great meal from another fine restaurant based in Parsippany. Ordering was easy and it was ready when promised. I have seen other comment about Dhaba Expeess and am thankful to find yet another place to grab so good India food. Whenever I post about Indian food, I always throw out that while Indian food could be spicey, when it is made to order, the chefs can cook the food to your liking. I ordered the Chicken Tikka spicy and the Aloo Gobhi Ghar K mild, and both orders were cooked to the individual who does the Ordering so one does not have to fear super spicey foods unless you want it that way. Visit #2 - It was a cold ad snowy day in mid March. Was craving some soup and ordered the hot and sour soup with chicken. Hot and sour soup with the added chicken was the perfect side on a cold and dreary day. Also order the Achaari Murgh Tikka - (Pickle marinade skewered chicken) Not gonna lie and say I ordered this which is not my norm. I must say it was super tasty and may be another favorite. I did order it spicy, but as stated you can tone down the spice and turn it up as well. I have always ordered it Spicy and have enjoyed the spice level. Really enjoyed the food here! Would give this place a 4.5. Came during Friday lunch, it wasn't busy when we arrived but got busy while we were sitting. Ordered baigan ka bharta, saag paneer, and veg Hakka noodles. The food took about 40 min, which is a long time for lunch. But when it did arrive the eggplant curry was very good, it had just enough spice to where I can enjoy it. I put my garlic naan all in the baigan ka bharta, perfect match. The garlic naan has tons of tiny garlic pieces to give so much garlic flavor, so flavorful and not overpowering. I did not enjoy the saag paneer, didn't have much flavor in my opinion. The veg Hakka noodle was a good portion, it was enough for three people. Somehow the noodles were so soft like hand pulled noodles. Good amount of vegetables in it as well. They took our order and our food was on our table within 10 minutes You ll have 4-5 option in lunch menu from every section (veg-Non veg-Seafood-Biryani) Chines is not included in lunch menu. We ordered Punjab Murgh Curry and Chicken biryani. All Lunch items comes with Daal Makhni-Plain Rice-Vegetable of the day and Naan/roti ( based on your preference). I was expecting some normal regular typical thali with all the items in it. But I was very impressed with the way they served our food. Separate small cute Utensils was used for each item, despite their portion size. I really liked it. Even water bottle was cool. Coming to food - Chicken- dal makahni- vegie, rice, Naan- all were delicious, except biryani. It was tasteless. There was no salt at all. I even called our server Yogendra and complained it. I did not want food to be wasted, so I did not ask for replacement. I used extra salt but biryani was no good at all. I paid at the counter and asked Yogendra to take off biryani from my bill and he happily obliged it. I even ordered Lamb biryani one night, that time it was very salty. The OG North Indian food. Your best bet would be take out as the restaurant dine in situation is little tight but you could try I mean (tables are very limited). And hung up.... I learned that there are a couple of different spots for Indian Cuisine within close proximities. I am not an expert in authentic Indian cuisine since I grew up in America and have never been to India. I do know that I feel horrible after the overly sweetened and overly fat content of Americanized Indian food. This seems true of Mexican food, Chinese food and perhaps other ethnic foods in America. Too much salt too much sugar too much oil. A prescription for a short life. But this Indian food was something else. I asked for spicy and it was very spicy. Not authentic Thai spicy, but very spicy compared to what you get in most American establishments. My son often gets some sort of spicy chips from authentic Mexican grocery store and very very hot. Once again not as hot as authentic Thai, authentic Lao, or Hunan food from China that is authentic. We had a curried eggplant dish, tadka dahl, Lamb Curry, rice and naan. The dishes were much more varied than standard Indian restaurants. The spicing was very different for each dish which were all delicious. I suggest going here but for most people toning down the spice a bit. For me it wasn't unbearably hot but for my friend who insisted he eats spicy food he suffered through dinner. read more

I'm posting this review regarding their delivery and by far it was really awesome and great. I'd love to try out their food in person but I was sick so naturally I'd want something a bit hearty and just a tad bit of spice so I went and ordered the potato and pea curry which was one of the vegan options. It came with a heaping portion and a nice serving of rice. The packaging is really awesome, they also wrap it double so you don't get any of the oil anywhere. As a tip I'd try to transfer the food into a container before you open it because the last time the oil stained the countertop but that's normal with flavorful food. The curry was warm and the peas had a nice textural bite along with the potatoes. I cooked roti alongside to eat with the dish and I had enough leftovers to last for a second day. You know the old saying "don't judge a book by its cover" this place was exactly that! From the outside the restaurant looks all beat up and weird. We walked in and the restaurant was empty but I was so hungry that I decided to stay and I am so glad that I did! We ordered the chili paneer as a starter, extra spicy of course and I have to say I was pretty impressed! The spice level was perfect and it wasn't too dry or too saucy! For our main course we ordered malai kofta and chicken vindaloo with some butter naan. I'm super picky with the way I like my malai kofta so I have to say this dish blew me away! Towards the middle of our evening the restaurant got quite busy and our main course too forever to come out! Not only did it take forever to come out but our waiter was rolling his eyes at me and kept trying to take my menu away! I normally am not a big fan of the food served jn Indian restaurants here . However I had a major craving for malai kofta and saw good reviews for it in this restaurant and took a chance . The malai kofta was delish . Everyone in my family loved the gravy . The langerwali daal and aloo gobhi was also liked by everyone . I've been to atleast two other restaurants By Dhaba and it was decent, so I expected to have a similar experience here. But it was far from that. Firstly, I believe that a restaurant-bathroom's cleanliness is probably representative of it's kitchen cleanliness. While the outdated bathroom isn't a problem, the cleanliness and stench is repulsive. Onto the food, Murgh Angare Tikka- was alright in flavor, could've been cooked thru a tad bit more. Murgh Dahi Wala--wasn't expecting chicken pieces in basically a flavorless Kadhi, yogurt was curdled and not cook thru properly you can tell. I wouldn't recommend this at all. Then, the Kalmi Kabab wings, while flavored okay and it seemed nicely charred on the outside, it was slimy, pink inside and not cooked all the way thru. As a replacement we got, Butter Chicken-- chicken pieces were weird tasting dark meat and the sauce itself was not at all representative of a typical butter chicken. It was sweet and flavorless. I should also add that when we came in the waiter told us the food would take a 40 minute wait-we said sure no problem! The fact that the food was raw and flavorless despite waiting a long time is really unacceptable. Just really irked out by the whole dining experience, don't recommend at all!!! read more

When I lived in Parsippany, I tried all of the Indian places around me. (My favorite two both closed, sadly.) Now that I've moved, the ones left to try are the brand-new ones, and so I finally made it to Dhaba Express. I placed my order through their convenient online system, which comes with 10% off for picking up your order - very nice. They immediately called me to let me know my desired appetizer (Delhi waale gol gappe) was unavailable and they substituted another (I chose samosa chole) at no charge. The food was ready when I showed up 3 minutes before the listed time. The man on the phone and at the counter had a thick accent, so communication was not the easiest, but it worked out in the end. The samosa chole was an interesting dish. Chopped up samosas in a yogurty chickpea stew. I ate it with a spoon and scooped it with both naan and rice. I still want to try the pani puri, but this dish would certainly come recommended. As for the naan, I got garlic naan. It was the right amount of garlicky - I could go for more, but I understand most people aren't me. The bread itself was not quite as soft as I've experienced naan before, but parts of it were good. Maybe cooked just a few seconds too long leading to the outside getting a bit hard, and the bread itself had less flavor than some. My main dish was the Patiala lamb curry. (I decided not to go for the goat curry to avoid picking around bones.) I asked for it extra spicy, but it honestly was less spicy than the samosa chole. Barely any hint of spice. The sauce did not look like the menu photo - it was red and the oil was separating from the body of the sauce. That said, it was flavorful and the lamb was cooked well. As far as I could tell, there were no veggies in this dish, just lamb in sauce. (The menu photo for the goat curry suggests vegetable. Nope.) Finally, I ended on moong dal halwa, a variation of the usual carrot halwa dessert using lentils instead. It tasted a bit old. It wasn't quite moist enough to hold together and was a bit crunchy around the edges. The center of it was better, so it may have been cooked earlier in the day and sat for a bit. All in all... a weak 4 stars. I've had such good Indian food in my life that I hold a very, very high standard for it. It's decently good here, but those favorite places I used to frequent were definitely better. In the end, this place is a great value for your money and they have a lot of dishes... I mean, they have a lot of dishes that are more traditional that other white-American oriented Indian restaurants might not, so it's a good place to try new things. Those and the good customer service push my review over to 4 stars, but I don't know how quickly I'll be back. Maybe next time the pani puri is in stock. read more
