Well first of all, i have to say... this is my favorite place... we always come here for special occasion (birthday, anniversary, you named it...) why? because the food is great!! price is great!!! But if you are expecting something to serve you as you walk in, take your order and wait on you... then you are in the wrong place... Most of them time the front of the store is empty because they are too busy back in the kitchen... but that doesn't stop me from coming to this place... if you are adventurous... come here instead of across the street where it's always busy... give this a try... My personal favorite are: Lamb curry platter, Chicken Tikka masala, and naan... they are a little spicy, but oh man, they are so good...

Size of the pot where the chicken karahi was. you can have an idea and there's no way that's for 1 person.

Do yourself a favor and don't go to this place. Rather go to the Mediterranean place right opposite to this one. This place has topped my list to NEVER ever go back and i don't want my fellow yelpers to suffer at this place the way i did with my family. First of all we called the place to check if they were busy, they said they were not and told us that they were closing at 10pm. We saw online that it's open until 11pm but thought that it must be an error. We told the guy that we wouldn't be able to make it until past 10pm and he said he'll keep the place open a little longer for us. We were very pleased with it at first. Since it was already 920pm, we decided to order ahead. (First timer here). At first we ordered 2 chicken karahi and 1 chicken tikka and 1 chickpeas. These came with nothing. No rice or bread so ordered naan separately. Then we asked about the portions of the dishes and we were told that they were very small and each is good for only one person. We were 6 people so decided to increase our order and got 3 chicken karahi, 2 chickpeas, 1 bihari kabab and 1 chicken tikka. Once we arrived, we saw that the store was empty. The open sign was still hanging outside with lights on. We were promptly seated of course since no one else was there. He brought out 2 chicken tikkas and 2 bihari kababs. We were in shock because it was more than what we had ordered. When we asked him he said he just made extra in case we wanted more and the kitchen was closed. We told him to take it out and we would stick to our original order. Then he brought the karahis and each karahi can be easily shared by minimum 2 people and max 3 and we were told that it was only good for 1 person. We realized that we were deceived. Then my dad didn't like the naan after 2-3turns because it had too much baking soda. Requested to have it replaced with a chapathi instead. He took the half naan back and gave a new chapathi. When we asked for a jug of water which is typically complimentary at any restaurant, we were handed with bottled water. Confused at why he did that, we kept 1 water and returned the rest. 1.5 karahi and chickpeas were left so we got them to go reluctantly as we didn't want to waste the food. When we went to checkout, that's when the drama started. WE WERE BEING CHARGED FOR THE HALF NAAN THAT WE RETURNED AND UPON REQUESTING HIM TO TAKE THAT OUT SINCE WE DIDN'T LIKE IT, HE STARTED ACTING ARROGANT AND TOLD US THAT WE DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR ANYTHING. WE TRIED EXPLAINING THAT THIS IS NOT RIGHT BUT HE STARTED GETTING LOUD. THEN WE DECIDED TO JUST LET HIM HAVE THAT $1 WORTH OF NAAN. BUT AFTER THAT TYPE OF ATTITUDE, THERE'S NO TIP FOR HIM AND WHEN WE DIDN'T HE STARTED ASKING FOR TIP. WE TOLD HIM THAT WE WEREN'T GOING TO TIP HIM BECAUSE OF HOW HE BEHAVED AND UPON HEARING THAT HE GOT EVEN MORE CRAZY. STARTED SAYING THAT HE'S NOT GOING TO GET POOR IF SOMEONE DOESN'T TIP HIM AND THAT NEXT TIME WE COME WE CAN JUST EAT FOR FREE. THERE WAS ANOTHER COUPLE THAT WALKED IN WHILE WE WERE EATING (SO MUCH FOR CLOSING AT 10PM, THAT WAS A LIE TOO) AND ALL THIS WAS HAPPENING IN FRONT OF THEM. WE JUST STEPPED OUT AFTER ALL THAT HARASSMENT FROM THE OWNER. THIS GUY MAKES MONEY BY DECEIVING, LYING AND UPCHARGING CUSTOMERS. HE DECEIVED ABOUT THE PORTIONS SO WE ORDERED MORE, LIED ABOUT CLOSING THE STORE AT 10PM AND THAT HE HAD TO PAY 20 BUCKS EXTRA TO HIS CHEF TO STAY LONGER, UPCHARGED US FOR THE BOTTLED WATER WHEN WE ONLY ASKED FOR A JUG OF REGULAR WATER AND THE BREAD THAT WE RETURNED. PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE HARASSED THE WAY WE WERE.

Customer service extremely bad, the owner Mohammed Ahmad cursed me and he was very violent and aggressive. I placed an order, after 15 minutes I asked how I have wait, that triggered his bad behavior.

    | Deeply Disappointed -- What Happened to Baithakh?…read more Baithakh used to be one of our favorite go-to spots in North Brunswick. We've always enjoyed the food, but unfortunately, something has definitely changed since our last visit -- and not for the better. We ordered several dishes, including the Baithakh Seekh Kebab Roll, Crispy Fried Chicken Burger, Beef Paya, Beef Nihari, Peshawari Mutton Karahi, and Chicken Malai Boti. To our surprise, nearly everything was a letdown. The Beef Paya and Peshawari Mutton Karahi were both swimming in oil and severely lacked flavor, which was shocking considering how good they used to be. The Fried Chicken Burger had decent seasoning, but the chicken itself was tough and rubbery -- almost inedible. The Chicken Malai Boti was okay, but even that wasn't as tender or flavorful as we've had here before. Maybe they've changed chefs or recipes, but the quality just isn't the same anymore. Baithakh had never failed us before, but this visit was a major disappointment. Sadly, we're giving it a 2 out of 5 stars. We hope they find their way back to the standard that once made them great.

We ordered Gol Gappay, lamb biryani, Gosht Karahi, and a naan. The Gol Gappay was interesting. Crispy shells filled with chickpeas and potato, with a tangy, salty, savory flavor. Adding a little yogurt balanced it out nicely. Definitely something different. The lamb biryani was around the low teens price-wise and came in a huge portion with plenty of meat. The lamb was slightly dry -- felt like it may have been prepared earlier and kept warm -- but still flavorful and within expectations for the price. The standout for us was the Gosht Karahi. Tender but slightly chewy lamb, very savory and well seasoned, with lots of large chunks of meat. It looks a bit pricey at first, but considering how much meat you actually get, it felt like a solid value. We packed up half of it and still thought the leftovers were more generous than some restaurants' fresh servings. The naan was massive. Good flavor, although it didn't have that super fresh-out-of-the-tandoor smoky char. Funny enough, reheating it in the air fryer at home made it even better. One thing to know: every dish here runs large, so this place is better with a group. There are parking spots in front, but not many.

It's unfortunate that I have to post this as I feel despite us voicing our concern (multiple times) in person with the staff and also on the phone when ordering take out, the staff is not trained and do not take certain dietary restrictions seriously such as food allergies. After having a child who suffers from peanut and egg allergies, whenever we have dined or ordered from here as of lately, we have politely asked for certain food not to be served together and prepared properly. After expressing this, the staffs answer is rude and with an attitude and us being told "ok i'll just put it in a separate plate" after it being cross contaminated and served. Then during a take out order when we called to alert that there is an allergy, to please ensure the food is properly handled and packed separately from egg-containing items, we were told (specifically by Jaspreet) it is already prepared and packed, so the best that can be done is taken out and packed separately instead of adhering to the urgency of the matter and re-preparing the food. Our child broke out in hives due to their negligence in the past and I fear that their inefficiency to understand the seriousness of this matter will one day result in legal action being taken against this establishment if God forbid someone else has a reaction or worse a Fatality. My post isn't intended towards the quality of the food, it is more so to be heard and create awareness on this matter as it seems this establishment can care less towards your health needs. Update: We were contacted by ownership (Ishrath) and accused of being in the wrong and were met with disrespect and advised not to come to this establishment anymore as they cannot meet our "crazy demands." We should have been heard out, which was explained to co-ownership (Sobia) a few minutes after my review was posted, that this wasn't a personal jab towards the establishment however has happened to us on multiple accounts, specifically from staff member Jaspreet the past two times in a matter of two weeks. There was no apology on the matter, just defensiveness in a "sweet tone." This is more so a validation that despite us voicing our concerns multiple times in person, it has fallen on deaf ears and it is unfortunate that we have had to go to such extremes as posting this to be heard. Since my post, we see the attempt to have our post buried, and quite frankly hope it made a difference, albeit they have lost our business however we know the restaurant will still thrive. Still wishing them the best of luck and hopefully prevents any future consequence on this matter.

However, over our last three visits, we've noticed several concerns: The taste of the food has changed, and some dishes were not properly cooked. The karahi gosht is no longer prepared the way it used to be, and the portion size has also been reduced. The seating arrangement feels too cramped for the space, making it difficult to move around comfortably. When concerns are raised, the standard response is simply, "we will let them know," without any visible follow-up. We genuinely enjoy dining here and would like to continue visiting. However, the inconsistency in food quality, along with pricing and portion concerns, has been disappointing and is making us reconsider. I would greatly appreciate it if the owner could give attention to these issues, particularly ensuring consistency in food quality and taste.

Shalimar, Woodbridge - Worth the Detour…read more Finding parking in Manhattan can feel nearly impossible--unless you're willing to pay what amounts to a full night's hotel rate just to stop for a short meal. On our way back to DC, we finally decided to stop somewhere more practical where parking wouldn't be a hassle. We ended up in Woodbridge and initially stopped at Shah's. Since my wife and I weren't in the mood for fast food, we asked the staff for a recommendation. Without hesitation, they pointed us to Shalimar, saying it was the best option in the area despite there being several Desi restaurants nearby. After a 10 min drive we arrived with fairly low expectations. The surrounding area felt a bit worn and unremarkable--but the moment we stepped inside, that impression completely changed. The restaurant was clean, modern, and felt recently renovated. Since we still had a long drive ahead, I asked for their specialty dishes. The initial interaction with the staff felt a bit rushed, as if they had somewhere else to be on a Friday night--but we managed to place our order. And then the food arrived. The sizzler was outstanding--perfectly seasoned, incredibly flavorful, and with a texture that really stood out. The chicken was juicy and tender, paired beautifully with buttery naan. The portion was massive--easily enough for four people, and even with our best effort, we still had leftovers. Asked for extra sauce to go but that came in as a no show. We also tried the Chapli kebab, which was equally impressive. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. The combination of red onions and green chili on the side elevated the dish even further. Service was a bit mixed. The younger staff seemed quite busy and not especially attentive, but the manager noticed and stepped in, which improved the experience. Before leaving, we grabbed a mango lassi and a falooda to go--both excellent and perfect for the drive back. Overall, the food, portion sizes, ambiance, and pricing were all outstanding. Even if the service wasn't perfect that evening, the quality of the food alone makes this a place we would absolutely return to when in the area.
