Do yourself a favor and don't go to this place. Rather go to the Mediterranean place right opposite to this one. This place has topped my list to NEVER ever go back and i don't want my fellow yelpers to suffer at this place the way i did with my family. First of all we called the place to check if they were busy, they said they were not and told us that they were closing at 10pm. We saw online that it's open until 11pm but thought that it must be an error. We told the guy that we wouldn't be able to make it until past 10pm and he said he'll keep the place open a little longer for us. We were very pleased with it at first. Since it was already 920pm, we decided to order ahead. (First timer here). At first we ordered 2 chicken karahi and 1 chicken tikka and 1 chickpeas. These came with nothing. No rice or bread so ordered naan separately. Then we asked about the portions of the dishes and we were told that they were very small and each is good for only one person. We were 6 people so decided to increase our order and got 3 chicken karahi, 2 chickpeas, 1 bihari kabab and 1 chicken tikka. Once we arrived, we saw that the store was empty. The open sign was still hanging outside with lights on. We were promptly seated of course since no one else was there. He brought out 2 chicken tikkas and 2 bihari kababs. We were in shock because it was more than what we had ordered. When we asked him he said he just made extra in case we wanted more and the kitchen was closed. We told him to take it out and we would stick to our original order. Then he brought the karahis and each karahi can be easily shared by minimum 2 people and max 3 and we were told that it was only good for 1 person. We realized that we were deceived. Then my dad didn't like the naan after 2-3turns because it had too much baking soda. Requested to have it replaced with a chapathi instead. He took the half naan back and gave a new chapathi. When we asked for a jug of water which is typically complimentary at any restaurant, we were handed with bottled water. Confused at why he did that, we kept 1 water and returned the rest. 1.5 karahi and chickpeas were left so we got them to go reluctantly as we didn't want to waste the food. When we went to checkout, that's when the drama started. WE WERE BEING CHARGED FOR THE HALF NAAN THAT WE RETURNED AND UPON REQUESTING HIM TO TAKE THAT OUT SINCE WE DIDN'T LIKE IT, HE STARTED ACTING ARROGANT AND TOLD US THAT WE DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR ANYTHING. WE TRIED EXPLAINING THAT THIS IS NOT RIGHT BUT HE STARTED GETTING LOUD. THEN WE DECIDED TO JUST LET HIM HAVE THAT $1 WORTH OF NAAN. BUT AFTER THAT TYPE OF ATTITUDE, THERE'S NO TIP FOR HIM AND WHEN WE DIDN'T HE STARTED ASKING FOR TIP. WE TOLD HIM THAT WE WEREN'T GOING TO TIP HIM BECAUSE OF HOW HE BEHAVED AND UPON HEARING THAT HE GOT EVEN MORE CRAZY. STARTED SAYING THAT HE'S NOT GOING TO GET POOR IF SOMEONE DOESN'T TIP HIM AND THAT NEXT TIME WE COME WE CAN JUST EAT FOR FREE. THERE WAS ANOTHER COUPLE THAT WALKED IN WHILE WE WERE EATING (SO MUCH FOR CLOSING AT 10PM, THAT WAS A LIE TOO) AND ALL THIS WAS HAPPENING IN FRONT OF THEM. WE JUST STEPPED OUT AFTER ALL THAT HARASSMENT FROM THE OWNER. THIS GUY MAKES MONEY BY DECEIVING, LYING AND UPCHARGING CUSTOMERS. HE DECEIVED ABOUT THE PORTIONS SO WE ORDERED MORE, LIED ABOUT CLOSING THE STORE AT 10PM AND THAT HE HAD TO PAY 20 BUCKS EXTRA TO HIS CHEF TO STAY LONGER, UPCHARGED US FOR THE BOTTLED WATER WHEN WE ONLY ASKED FOR A JUG OF REGULAR WATER AND THE BREAD THAT WE RETURNED. The first time I ever went to this place, I was really put off by the service or rather, lack of service. I left without ordering food because it felt really strange to me that I had to go into the kitchen to order my food. I just went straight to the back of the kitchen and gave the nice guy in the back my take out orders. 1 vegetable biryani, 1 chicken tikka biryani and 1 regular chicken biryani (I must have been unclear b/c he ended up giving me an order of chicken tikka tandoori) and 2 of chicken and 2 of beef kababs. There was a bit of miscommunication - but it's fine. I got to try different items. 1. vegetable biryani - amazing flavors (in a good way), a huge portion for $6.99. HOWEVER, super duper spicy. I love spicy foods and this burned my mouth and kept my tummy warm hours after my meal. 2. chicken tikka biryani $7.99 - i took a couple of bites to gauge spiciness and it was barely spicy, but my taste buds might have been too scorched to taste much after the vegetable biryani. Lots of boneless chiken in the biryani. 3. Tikka masala $5.99 - it tastes ok. chunks of chicken breast meat but nothing special. some lettuce and onions in the box. 4. kababs $1.79 each - beef - meh, not a fan. Super dry though there was a lot of juice in the bottom of my plastic bag, so maybe it all came out, but not a fan of the flavor (was there lamb meat??) Chicken - much better! juicier and no gamey flavor. each one is about 6 inches long. Total came out to be $30 and ~20 minutes wait for the whole meal (or two) and came with a tub of salad (lettuce, tomato, onions, cucumbers, etc). I got to know this place through a colleague and craves their food from time to time. Definitely good eats at an affordable price. Lahori Charga, apparently this is Pakistani for FRIGGIN AWESOME!!! It's a Chicken dish, a bit spicy, seems to be a dry rub, the owner says it is steamed then friend. Dunno, don't care. it is amazing. better still half chicken is like 7 or 8 bucks! The Naan is hot and fluffy with a crispy crust, the Alu Paratha is fair. Small restaurant, seems to be the owner and his wife? are the wait staff. I have eaten in and taken home and love it. Fair warning they tend to run a bit spicy so if you don't care for that let them know, or if your like me let them know they can heat it up a bit too. Vegetable and Chicken samosas were good as well. This place has good food for a great price, the people are friendly and most important they are a local business. We popped in here on the Fall Festival day. We did eat there, though everyone else is kind of right about everyone being in the kitchen. We really could have finished eating, gotten up and walked out into the crowd and they probably wouldn't have noticed. That doesn't change the food. I am big on food matching the price. WORST FOOD EVER! Beyond pissed i have to even leave a 1 star review as they aren't even worthy of that 1 star. Walked into an empty restaurant as my husband and i were starving. The kabab roll sandwich was terrible. 1 small unflavored kebab stuffed with lettuce onions and tomatoes. The naan and kebab tasted like they were frozen and store bought. The chicken samosas were a big disappointment. The dough was so thick and the meat inside had no spices or flavor. Everything was horrendous. Went to pull out some napkins only to reveal the inside was filthy and had food stains everywhere. I have no idea where the 2-5 star reviews came from but they are very misleading so BEWARE! I'm not ashamed to call them out as fake reviews. This restaurant is a complete utter DISGRACE to indian-pakistani food. This place needs a sanitary health inspection ASAP. Since this is a Punjabi food (Indian), the menu is generally bifurcated in Vegetarian and Non Vegetarian options. Again vegetarian is a 3 star and non-vegetarian a 5 star. My friend and I went here for lunch thinking that we will get decent food. We ordered sheesh kabob rolls and samosas. The food in my opinion wasn't even decent. As a Pakistani, I felt that the food was too bland and didn't have the right touch of spices. The kabab rolls weren't put together properly and most importantly it took a while to make. I love Shahi Kabab. It's cheap, they're super friendly, the food is tasty (though a little oily), and the ambiance. Well, actually, while the ambiance is fun, it's also the single least hospitable eating establishment I know of. It's usually super cold, with the doors and window open, and it feels more like a catering depot (which I'm pretty positive it is), than a place to actually order or eat food.
