Came here on a Sunday night after spending the day with a few friends. When you first walk in, the inside looks fairly small but then the restaurant extends towards the back and you'll find more seating. It's fairly spacious in the back so you don't have to worry about feeling on top of the person next to you or have to worry about having to say "excuse me" as you try to get into your table. Our waitress was fast and super kind. We started with their fried rolls which I think are like spring rolls? Either way, super tasty and full of flavor. We also got the papaya salad and short rib entree to share. The short rib was a little chewy but still packed with so much flavor. I've only had the Thai version of papaya salad but surprisingly this papaya salad had v similar flavor. Vietnamese food is one of my faves and it's safe to say, I'll for sure be back! read more

TLDR: If you haven't been to Di An Di yet - what are you waiting for. Quite possibly one of the best restaurants I visited in 2022. If you want something a bit different and damn tasty, you need to get in here. Absolutely get something from the Cuon/Pho sections. If I lived closer to this place, I'd be in deep poo because I'd eat here all the time. Somehow I never made it to Di An Di until recently. I'm not sure why but I am saddened by all the amazing meals I've missed out on. This place was so good that I discovered it less than 90 days ago and I've been back 3 times already. The spring rolls are amazing. Razor-thin rice paper but the filling is nice and plump. So delicately airy and crispy but quite juicy when you bite into it. I've had basically every iteration (at least this year) of the Cuon section. Basically it'a sizzling platter with a variety of veggies, rice paper and other add-ons you can make wraps with. The lamb belly is smoky, fatty and juicy. The mushrooms are bouncy, cheesy and so so flavorful. The fish is nothing short of delightful. The Pho though. The beef broth is RICH, squeaky clean and so beefy. Unlike most phos you've had in New York, the beef is seared off first instead of poaching in the broth. The chicken broth is my favorite. Tender pieces of chicken with homemade ginger scallion to dip the pieces into. On my last visit I tried the dry noodle bowl with the pork shoulder. Ask for the house-made chili sauce and mix it all up with the nuoc cham (fish sauce) and inhale that bowl. It's so tasty you definitely will want to. read more

The vibes of this place are awesome for a friend's date or even a romantic one. The waitress were really nice suggesting us which one to pick and what was the difference between each. My friends and I stopped by around opening time (6pm) on a Friday and were able to get a table without reservation. A few minutes after, there was already a line of people trying to get in. This place gets really crowded so try to get here early or make a reservation! The restaurant is quite spacious and has outdoor seating, which was where we were seated. Some areas of their indoor seating has a ton of natural light and the interior design of this place is gorgeous. We all ordered their beef pho (Pho Thin Ha Noi - $20) and shared oysters (Hau Nurong Pho Mai - $16) and spring rolls (Cha Gio - $12). The oysters were quite tiny and the spring rolls were alright. I wouldn't say that they were particularly worth the price since the portions were small. The beef pho came with a raw egg, which was uncommon for pho. They also used a different cut of beef than usual but the broth and beef choice was pretty solid and I enjoyed eating it. read more

Quite disappointed with this experience. There was a lot of hype from friends and family about what a great chef was here and what a great job they did. The experience was underwhelming. We arrived promptly for our 5:45 dinner. We placed our drink orders and waited. The waitress never came back for our food order. So one of the maitre D's stopped by and took the food order. Almost immediately, the papaya salad came out. Shortly thereafter, the beef salad came out. Still no drinks. About the time the omelette came out, and we asked about it, the drinks came over. The service was quite rushed. The omelette with the rice cakes was not really anything special. Just meh. The beef salad and papaya salad. We're both very good. We also ordered Pho. It was literally tasteless. It tasted like plain broth with noodles in it. It went over cooked chicken. The spices did not come through, nor did the fresh herbs. Really disappointing. We could have done better ourselves at home. I would mention that the chicken pho was recommended by the maitre d. We really wanted to like this place. But my advice would be that it isn't worth it. Overall nice ambiance, good for groups, and the unique cocktails are a nice touch to the meal. Definitely on the pricy side, though. I got the following: - Crispy spring rolls - they were nicely fried, great crunch, hot, well stuffed and flavorful. The shrimp was fresh, plump and juicy. Only con is they're kinda small, comes with 3 total rolls and three lettuce leaves with fish sauce. - Pandan painkiller - really good and unique, haven't had pandan in a cocktail before and was pleasantly surprised. The drink wasn't too sweet at all, and had a strong pandan flavor that I appreciated. - Chicken pho - tasted clean, the fried onions were a nice touch. I don't usually drink all of the pho soup but this time I did because it just tasted like it was good for you. - Beef pho - broth was pretty clear looking but definitely had a more unique depth of flavor to it because the of the wok seared beef. The beef slice I tried was actually kinda dry, so not sure if that was a one off but definitely would expect more for a $20 entree. The spicy sauce is really spicy! I tried a tiny drop and it was way more spicy than I expected and I think I have a high tolerance level (I like to get medium spicy generally). Their hoisin is also house made (I think), it was nutty and had a good depth of flavor to it, different from the bottled hoisin in a good way. Service is friendly, but they took a while to take our order and we had to flag them down. I'm just visiting from out of town so won't be back, but for the price, I probably wouldn't frequent this spot. Seems nice for dates though. I loved Di An Di so much. I don't eat meat, so finding a solid vegetarian pho can be sort of difficult! Di An Di absolutely delivers on that. The broth was very flavorful, light, and if you mix the egg in it becomes slightly creamy. Literally so good. The mushrooms were sautéed well, and smoky and rich. I honestly have never had such good vegetarian pho in my life. I also had the tofu entree with the vegan spring roll, rice noodles, mint, and cucumber. The tofu was cooked in my favorite way: crispy and saucy on the outside and soft in the middle. The sauce they cooked it with was amazing, and transferred well onto the noddles when mixed up. I was so full and couldn't get enough! Very excited to come back here, and its all at a very decent price! You get great portions for reasonable prices, and the food is amazing. I'm no pho connoisseur so it tasted pretty standard to me (aka good). This is a pricy pho, but you get so much more alongside your meal. The staff was kind and accommodating, and the vibes were fit for a date night where you might try to convince a low-key long-distance lover to DTR. We were a group of four preparing to lose all dignity in order to grovel for some extra seats as collectively, we only had a reservation for two. They were busy too, it didn't seem like there was a table to spare. But they were happy to rearrange some seatings with a few tap-taps on their iPad. The squid rice paper salad was tasty but a bit hard to digest initially as the paper was really living up to its name. The pho portion was ginormous, and came with the standard pho toppings. Their sauces appear to be house made? At least, there was no obvious brand association. Good stuff except the spoons were stickier than I would have liked. Not sure what the egg yolk was there for but it was fun to play around with a bit. Overall, a great spot for a higher end Vietnamese experience, but there are definitely better spots for your cents if taste is what matters most. read more

This place has been bookmarked on my list for the longest time so I'm glad I finally got the chance to try it! For larger parties, I recommend making a reservations because they are always packed. I decided to solo dine today so I was quickly seated at the bar. This is my first time trying northern Vietnamese style food, so I wasn't really sure what to expect (especially with the egg in the broth) but I was pleasantly surprised! The broth was very light but had a lot of flavor from the spices and the egg yolk made it a little creamier tasting. The noodles were great - they're wider than the noodles you get at other pho places, which is what I prefer. I think the sriracha and hoisin sauce are made in house - warning, the sriracha is pretty spicy! The hoisin sauce has a peanut tasting after taste, but I thought it was good. I would definitely be back to try their other dishes, but I wouldn't come often due to the steep price point ($20 for a bowl of pho). read more

Thursday 8pM - came here for a friends bday dinner as she wanted something more low key and somewhere close to where she lives ( and not have to commute to the city ). Her idea was indochine type of restaurant. I see the draw and why she chose the place, it's a Vietnamese restaurant . The space is small , cozy and inviting. The staff from the host to the servers were great ( friendly , positive ) . What I wish was different- If we got seated inside by the kitchen where they had high chairs and is more spacious . The food while it's decent didn't feel as the authentic. It tasted good , servings were small ish ( maybe we should have ordered more food but it was challenging especially if one of the reasons why we were excited to go there was because of the bahn mi but they didn't have any of them). The menu is was too limited for my taste . The special for the evening ( chicken ) didn't do it for me . The rice that went with it had an interesting take ( toasted rice which I liked ). Ambiance and service would be the motivation for coming back but if you're there solely for the food , be prepared to not necessarily satisfy your craving for Vietnamese food as many items on the menu may not be available . Got lucky and a table opened up and we arrived when they opened. We were seated at the bar at first. Make sure you make reservations! It got packed towards the end of stay. The cocktail I got was some passion frui t with tequila and condense milk. I didn't expect it to be so tart. I thought the condense milk would make it sweeter. I tried my friend's lychee cocktail and I actually couldn't taste the fruit. I've had pho many times but never had the Hanoi style. We all got the same dish. It came out quick. I always try the soup first. The color isn't as dark as most pho people are used to but it was still very flavorful. I wasn't sure if I should mix in the yolk but I did anyways. It just changed the color, it didn't do much to the dish. The noodles were amazing! So fresh and just as how I remember them in Vietnam. The beef was also very good! It had a smokey taste like they precooked it then added it to the pho. The down side was there wasn't much noodles and beef. I ordered extra noodles because of how much I loved them. Ambiance (4/5): Our party of two rolled in around 9pm so there was no wait but I hear that wait times can run upwards of an hour! The inside is super trendy with the leafy decorations and cool bar area. It is dimly lit and extremely crammed. Our table was I kid you not, about an inch away from our neighbors. Luckily, we had a corner booth thing and could exit from the side! Service (5/5): Due to the hour of our visit, I felt like the service was great! We were helped immediately and attended to throughout our meal. The staff cycle around instead of being assigned one individual for the night and they were always eager to help. Food (3/5): Beef Pho ($22): The broth is extremely savory and full of flavor!! Big fan of the egg yolk on top for the extra protein to compensate for the meager beef portioning. The beef however was incredible with packed flavor and tenderness. The Cana pho noodles are not what I was expecting and was kind of thicker rice noodles (rather than flat) but also fell apart/short. Ceiling windows illuminated the area with wooden chairs & millennial pink-cushioned booths, with leafy plants draped throughout. Even the bathroom was cute, with wooden and pink themed accents. Popular house and R&B songs were played in the background. The appetizers were so refreshing! We ordered Banh Mi Ga (fried chicken salad) & cheesy garlic oysters. The chicken salad was so delightful for a hot humid day in New York. The oysters also melted in your mouth (we definitely wanted to eat more). For the main dish, we all ordered the beef pho. This place is known for its northern style pho, which is different from your average pho restaurant. The noodles were so soft and tasty, absorbing the broth flavor super nicely. The pan seared beef was also savory and chewy. I enjoyed how all of the garnishes, like green onion, cover the surface of the soup. One of the best meals I've had. In the midst of walking along the NYC Marathon route (only the South Bklyn to Queens leg of the runners' insanely long journey) and needed something for lunch. We don't find ourselves in Greenpoint often, so checked Yelp to see what highly-rated places were nearby. Obviously, we ended up here. We didn't check the menu beforehand, just figured "eh, we love Vietnamese food and we're hungry, so why not?" You enter via the front bar area. There are a handful of tables along the wall, but it feels a bit cavernous, so we opted to walk to the back dining room which is a cool space -- airy and light thanks to a high ceiling, skylights and lots of green plants. I got the Vietnamese rice noodles with fried spring roll and grilled pork chop. Overall, the dish was delicious, but the meat was less pork chop and more pork belly, as it had a ton of fat and lean bits were few and far between. It was nicely marinated and flavorful, but I don't like to have to pick apart the meat to avoid the fat -- it's not a good way to enjoy a meal. If you're expecting the meat to be fatty (which I wasn't), that's a different story entirely and you'll be entirely pleased with the dish. Either way, the resto should clarify the type of pork on the menu. The hub ordered the French Dip banh mi which was excellent. The sandwich meat was flavorful as-is, but the dipping broth (which seemed like unadorned pho broth and plenty of it leftover to drink afterward) gave the baguette style bread a bit of juiciness which made the sandwich pretty perfect. We both agreed that it was a crave-worthy option, something we'd like to see on more banh mi menus. Our server was friendly, so thumbs-up there. The noise level was a bit loud, but not unbearable. Adding some sound-absorbing surfaces would likely help with that. As for pricing, it's a bit on the higher side -- $24 for the noodles and $20 for the sandwich. So, lunch for two with two dishes and no drinks (just tap water provided to the table) was $50 plus tip, so $60 total. Dined on a Tuesday night and we're seated immediately. Note that they only serve Bahn Mis for lunch, so plan accordingly. Nice variety of wines, beers, and cocktails. I had a skin contact Austrian wine. Great option on a hot summer day. We shared a bunch of the starters including the crispy vegan (mushroom) spring rolls, fried eggplant sticks, rice cake omelette, and the seasonal vegetables. Items were on the savory side. Not spicy. For the main course, we shared the tofu skewers over vermicelli noodles. Tofu had a great char. Perfectly refreshing and filling item for a hot summer day. Portions were on the smaller side so four starters and a main split well between two people. Cuisine certainly appeased more towards a western palate. Food is flavorful and tasty but high maintenance. Some dishes like the lamb belly and mushroom pizza you eat with your hands. Fork and knife are not provided as a default setting but perhaps may be available on request. Chopsticks are provided automatically. Pandan painkiller cocktail to start. Was delicious. Pandan is an indescribably great flavor, usually used in desserts. I am a sucker for it. It's often combined with coconut, so I see how it might be able to harmonize with a coconut cream-based drink like a painkiller. This was a sweet and tangy drink. It's probably not for everyone and could be perceived as too sweet, as the bartender mentioned. But I didn't care, I knew what I was getting into. Mushroom "pizza" was great, and was really helped by the black garlic sauce. A lot of umami in this dish. You will be using scissors to cut the rice paper pizza and it may get messy. The lamb belly wraps were very rich and tasty, but also messy. I find it a bit high maintenance to construct or take apart food before you eat it. But some people find that fun, I guess. Service was good - prompt and friendly. Sometimes that's a concern when seated at the bar, but not here. Will mention that I intially sat down at the open seat at the end of the bar, but was then told by the hostess that I had to move. Apparently that seat and the one next to it were reserved for another party. That's fine, but maybe they should tilt the stools or put placards there to let people know that those seats are unavailable. It worked out, as the hostess found me another seat at the bar a few seats down. But that was weird. The barstools are uncomfortable, as the edges dig into the back of your legs. Amazing date night spot! On a Thursday night the place wasn't overly crowded which made for a lively yet intimate dinner. We shared the banh bot chien (rice cake omelette) and I got Com tam suon cha (broken rice and grilled pork chop) with an extra fried egg. The rice cake omelette was soft and fluffy from the perfectly cooked eggs and savory from the garlic soy based sauce. The grilled pork chop over rice was absolutely delicious. Their back space is an open kitchen layout with a partial open ceiling which gives it lots of natural light. It felt nice to have such a chill vibe. Food was great, we ordered their spring rolls and beef pho. I personally prefer summer rolls more, but these spring rolls may be the best ones I've had in awhile. Pho was also great and they had the wider noodles which is my preference. I liked my visit to Di An Di, and thought the pho was really good. Walking in, I didn't expect it to be very good (it just doesn't look like it would have authentic pho), but it exceeded my expectations. I was surprised when there was an egg in my pho, but it was a welcome addition. I think the only downsides for my trip here is that I felt like I wasn't treated in a super welcoming manner by the staff and that the prices were a bit more expensive than I had originally anticipated. But that won't stop me from visiting again--the food was great and I would be interested in trying some of the cocktails. THIS PLACE IS MEEEEED we got some pho, banh bot chien, cha gio, and ga nuong. This was whateva though. The cha gio was pretty good but other than that, everything else was really ok. The other people who ate with me were like wtf we just got some salad and 3 slices of raw beef. this is NOT the move.
