They scheduled my 14 year old cat for a same day appointment and we couldn't have been happier with the care Dr. Sin provided. My cat had intermittently been showing signs of pain for a couple weeks (refusing food and hiding). We'd been in contact with her regular vet and had a couple appointments, but were still in the stage of monitoring her due to her symptoms being sporadic. On Thursday, she refused both her meals. We got her scheduled for bloodwork with her regular vet for the following Monday. By Friday she was still refusing to eat/drink, and was hiding and refusing to be pet, whereas she's normally very affectionate. Being concerned about her lack of fluid intake and the escalation of her symptoms, I called Kaimuki Veterinary Urgent Care and got an appointment the same day. Dr. Sin did an exam, and had an in-depth conversation with us about the broad range of possible causes for her symptoms. It was clear Dr. Sin fully reviewed my cat's medical history, and took her regular vet's previous notes into account when speaking with us. They ended up drawing the labs that her regular vet was planning to draw the next week, which allowed us to get the results 3 days earlier than we would have! In the meantime she provided a subcutaneous fluid injection to help with our kitty's hydration, and an injected antibiotic. They also sent us home with a pain medication for her. Between the fluid injection and the pain medicine, she was acting more like herself that same night, and she ate her full dinner. They promptly sent the medical records back to her usual vet, who informed us that the labs showed signs of kidney disease, as well as pancreatitis. We're starting her on a special diet for her kidney disease, but regular vet credited Dr. Sin by saying that the antibiotic injection she gave likely already took care of the pancreatitis. Dr. Sin and her team were very compassionate, and Dr. Sin especially was very efficient at communicating her clinical thought process. They also provided itemized price estimates before rendering services. I compared the estimates to the ones from my regular vet, and the prices were roughly the same! Unexpected vet visits and bills are scary, but the team here was open and transparent about the whole process, which really put our minds at ease. Thank you for everything! read more

be prepared for an outrageous bill and unnecessary service. we were charged almost $1500 for a de- impaction of our small dog and then told surgery should be done. I was made to feel "guilty" because i chose not to have surgery and was encouraged to have x rays that I later found were not essential. we later found out that surgery is not recommended for constipation/ mild prolapse. our small dog was given a large dose of anesthesia and then a huge dose to reverse the effect ( " an aggressive amount of sedation " was the phrase used when we shared the billing info with another vet ). I know people are prepared to pay thousands of dollars for treatment of their animals , but transparency and trust are a huge factor in treatment. My little morkie contracted a UTI and she was in pain. It was Sunday and also a holiday weekend, her vet office was closed. Good thing Kaimuki Ver Urgent Care was available. I called around 9am and was able to grab an afternoon appointment. I filled out the online new patient form in advance of the appointment. First, the receptionist, Napua, checked her in. Then, a technician came in to jog down background info, asked questions about our concerns, and brought her in the back for weight. Lastly, she was seen by Dr. Lum, who was very knowledgeable and empathetic. Dr. Lum listened attentively to us and offered options to treat our little one. She was then prescribed medications. Today, she's recovering well. We are relieved and grateful that this clinic opens on weekends. Additionally, everyone there is nice and competent. FYI. -The office visit alone was around $155. -There's private and free parking in front of the clinic. -Also, there's a candle in the corner of the office. When the candle is lit, it indicates someone is losing their pet :'(, so please pay attention to that. read more

Emergency Vet Visit. I cannot recommend this place more! I came home from work, to my apartment covered in dog vomit and diarrhea. They recommended an appointment but let me walk in, in about 30 minutes! When I arrived I left my dog in my car because in can be both reactive to people and other dogs, so I wanted to communicate that to them first. What I loved, was they asked me they could make this vet visit the most comfortable for my dog! I asked for a muzzle for safety, and requested that everyone be seated as much as possible for the visit. My Great Dane warmed up super quick and the appointment was able to be completed with no issues and only a couple of growls from my dog! Again, I cannot recommend this place more! My dog usually HATES the vet, and everyone was so welcoming! read more

$150 for the general exam. They took my dog into the back room to perform the exam, which seemed impersonal. I would suggest doing this with the owners present, which other vets I've been to do (except during Covid). Otherwise, it's hard to imagine what was actually done. read more

We came in to see Dr. Lum today when I noticed our dog had a bump on her stomach. She wasn't able to be seen by her regular vet in the next few days and we were really worried. I called Kaimuki Veterinary Urgent Care and they could see us right away. The visit does cost more than a regular vet visit but that's to be expected. Our dog recognized one of the technicians right away and we felt cared for as soon as we walked in the door. The receptionist was kind and understanding which I appreciate because I've been so worried about our dog. We highly recommend this clinic for any urgent care needs. We trust Dr. Lum who was one of the doctors at another location that Panko had to go to for an emergency and thankfully that worked out well. Thank you so much for seeing us today!!! read more

My heart breaks while writing this as my dog just passed away this evening suddenly from a tumor rupturing. I will say tho that I can't thank this clinic enough for there absolute kindness the second I burst thru there doors in full panic with my dog Loki, no questions asked took me straight into a room and immediately started assessing the situation. They went to work quick! Every time they said they needed something from me I just assumed it would be my credit card as I have had passed experiences with vrc and that's all there about and they never asked for payment until the very end and it was so gentle and kind. They made me feel very cared about and not rushed at all as I put my baby to sleep, the doctor even hugged me after. They brought Loki to be in a nice comfy blanket and gave me a doorbell to let them no when I needed and wanted anything. I never thought o would leave this experience so grateful to be surrounded by such kind people. They could have taken me to the cleaners with test and all sorts of things and they simply just didn't. Really appreciate this veterinary office. I had noticed one of my cats was breathing a bit heavier than normal. Everything else seemed normal (eating, drinking, etc.) so I was keeping an eye on it thinking it might be allergies. However, Saturday morning she very suddenly got much worse. I called her normal vet but they couldn't see her and gave me Kaimuki's number. I set up an appointment for the same day, but ended up bringing her in an hour early because I was so worried. They roomed us pretty much immediately and put her in an oxygen tank. The vet tech and doctor were very diligent and I really feel they did everything they could. Unfortunately, it seems she likely had underlying heart disease that wasn't caught in time. Lani sadly past away, but I'm extremely grateful for everything they did for her. They gave us her paw print, some of her fur, and a very nice card signed by the doctor and staff. read more

I brought my dog Pumpkin in to see Dr. Sin. My dog had difficulty walking using his hind legs. So Dr. Sin examined him and told me he had a disk problem. The part that upset me was I brought him in on July 17, and I called on July 19 asking for a call back from the doctor. I was put on hold and the receptionist came back and told me the doctor was busy and to bring him to the pet emergency hospital. I told the receptionist I just had a question about my dog panting heavily and what to do and they brush me off without a concern for my pet! Those people don't care about you or your pet, they just want your money. I told them I'm NEVER going back there again. read more

A friend's dog suffered a big laceration on her back and needed stitches. The closest emergency vet clinic in our area was Kaimuki Veterinary Urgent Care. The staff are so personable, empathetic, and professional. Dr. Janelle Lum explained the structure of the wound, what she had to do to close it and what factors will impact its healing. We were very worried for the dog but the nurse spoke to us in a way that put us at ease. I didn't feel like they preyed upon our emotions and distress like some other emergency clinics do. The staff there are genuinely nice and caring. We were told that it would take 1.5 hours for them to clean and suture the wound. They completed the treatment in less than an hour. Very skilled, very efficient. I highly recommend taking your fur baby here if you need urgent care services. read more

Best urgent care vet clinic ever. My dog had eaten poke with onions/garlic on it. So i called Kaimuki Veterinary Urgent Care right away to let them know what had happened to Oreo. As soon as I arrived, the technicians took a quick look at her and got a history of what had happened. Dr. Lum was very informative as to what we can do for this situation and give me options. I chose t o get her to vomit and get cerenia injection for the nausea just in case since I'm a worried mom. She was still her normal self like always but thanks to Dr. Lum and her team I do not need to worried at all. Best care ever especially if her regular vet is closed for holidays. It was about 6pm one evening, when a friend called about a puppy that had been hit by a car. I knew I couldn't afford VERC and most other vet clinics in the area were already closed for the day. But fortunately, Kaimuki Veterinary Urgent Care wasn't. She stayed there three nights recovering from her injuries. Dr. Sin kept me updated every day, and when she wasn't working, Dr. Lum called me. I can't say enough about Kaimuki Veterinary Urgent Care. One of my dogs suddenly vomited blood.  I freaked out and didn't want to wait for an appointment with my regular vet. Our cat Ola is an outdoor cat. All of a sudden this week he got very lethargic and blood kept coming out ot his mouth. We took him to Kaimuki Veterinary Urgent Care. They had blood tests and a physical exam done. The doctor said he's extremely anemic, with very low red blood cell count, but could not explain why that was all happening so quickly to him. She mentioned cancer, liver failure, etc. We paid $800 for the emergency visit, blood tests, and prescriptions (including antibiotics). We still left the clinic having no clue why Ola was so anemic all of a sudden or why blood was coming out of his mouth. The next morning Ola's condition worsened, so we took him to Animal Clinic of Honolulu. After looking at Ola's blood test results and doing a quick physical exam the doctor asked me: "Did they mention Decon poisoning (rat poisoning) at Kaimuki Veterinary Urgent Care?". I said no, they never mentioned that even though I told them Ola is an outdoor cat and eats rats and birds all the time. It took this doctor only 5 minutes to figure out what was going on. He told me to take Ola to VERC on Nimitz right away. He was kind enough to not charge us anything for the visit, and told us to go to VERC so Ola could get a blood transfusion and Vitamin K treatment right away. The first thing the doctor said when we got to VERC and he looked at his blood test was "Decon poisoning." The staff at VERC saved Ola's life and we're forever thankful! It cost us $4,000 at VERC but it was worth every penny to save Ola. The only frustrating part is that we wasted $800 at Kaimuki Veterinary Urgent Care and the doctor didn't even mention Decon poisoning. Moral of the story, if you love your pet and don't want to waste hundreds of dollars, DO NOT go to Kaimuki Veterinary Urgent Care. Go to VERC if it's an emergency or if it's after hours. And if not an emergency, go to Honolulu Animal Clinic. I wish we knew that and could have helped Ola recover sooner. read more
