Dial A Maid let us know the day before that they would come at 1:30. I stepped out from work to meet them at the apartment. However, at 1:55, they still had not arrived, so I called them, and they told me the maids would be there in 20-25 minutes. How much longer did I actually wait? 80 minutes. They showed up at 3:15 (1 hour and 45 minutes late). We made our booking pretty last minute, but it would've been nice if they let us know they would be that late. I had planned to stay in the apartment while they were cleaning, but I decided to go back to work since I had lost a lot of time already, then come back when they were almost done. When I came back for the last 30 minutes of the cleanup, they were cleaning diligently, so I stood in a corner while they finished up. One of the maids kept turning to me every couple minutes to tell me the place is really dirty. I mean, I'm aware of that and that's why I called you; no need to stop doing your job to tell me that. I stopped responding to her the third time she did that. She didn't get the message and continued to do so. When the scheduled 2-hour cleanup was over, I asked how much I owed. And they had no idea. They had to make a ~10 minute call with their supervisor figure out the price. In summary, they did an ok job cleaning, but wasted a lot of my time. read more

Worst house cleaning job I've ever experienced. The one good thing was pleasant and competent customer service. And the cleaning crew of 3 were pleasant enough. The main issue was sloppy and seemingly indifferent work; and a crew lead who didn't have a handle on the job despite written instructions, and who clearly did not check the team's work. Where they did do work, such as vacuum, you could see they just ran the machine over the main section and didn't bother to get under open furniture like a desk, and leaving scraps of debris behind. In other areas they said they cleaned, it was equally sloppy -- the wood-floor stairs had visible debris and dust and the kitchen floor had soot and debris swept aside, sitting in plain view by the floor boards. Other things they didn't even attempt to clean -- the kitchen counters as dirty as I left them, and most furniture on the 1st floor as dusty as before. When I brought these up to the crew lead as they prepared to depart, he was surprised I wanted the surfaces cleaned! The list can go on, but the picture is clear: avoid this company. read more

I have been using Dial-a-Maid for a while now. As I understand it, they are a family owned company and you can tell. Their customer service is great. When i call, the responses are always friendly, the receptionist is great and always quick to book me. When they clean my apartment I am always impressed with the job they do. The wood at the bottom of the walls is always cleaned (who knew those needed to be cleaned??) , and places that I usually don't get to are always cleaned (like behind my toilet!!) and I always feel like I can trust the people who come into my apartment. They give a window of time they'll be arriving at and they are always there during within that time, which is perfect when me and my roommates have class during the day and want to be out of the way. I called Dial-a-Maid because I would always see the car around Rogers Park where I live. I own a condo and the tenants moved out and they pretty dirty. When I called the man on the phone was very friendly and helpful he explained what the maids would do and for a reasonable price. This company was referred by a contractor who uses them! It was clear that it was a post construction clean and very dirty. They arrived with 3 women who had no supplies and little experience! So bad! Gave them some money and told them to leave! they were way over their head and that was not the deal! So misleading I can't believe it! read more

By far the worst cleaning service I've had to date. I called the day prior and asked them to come at 10 and was told they would come between 10 and 10:30. At 11:00 they still had not shown up and I was told they would be pulling in any minute. At 11:30 they had still not shown up so I looked outside and they were just sitting in their car. Who knows how long they were out there for. While I thought this was weird I wasn't bothered. I had to step out for about 45 min but as they were supposed to be there for an hour and 20 I didn't think it would be a problem. We came back to them being gone, barely cleaned house. They just tidied it up. One of our bathrooms was left clean but with PEE ON THE TOILET SEAT. As all of us are female I don't understand why there would be pee on the seat. The second bathroom was left disgusting. We called the service (the receptionist was kind) and they brought them back to the house and they informed us they were only here for 30 minutes but expected us to pay for the full 1.25 hours. We ended up paying $30 less than what we were supposed to for a mediocrely cleaned house. Will never use this service again and caution anyone else from relying on it. read more

This service was recommended by a contractor who said they specialize in post construction cleaning. We hired them to clean our newly renovated home prior to us moving in. Circumstances required us to leave them unattended after giving instruction on what was needed - but we felt comfortable doing that because of the recommendation. Well - $240 and 4 hours later... I walk into the house and I have NO idea what they did. There were still splotches on the floors, the fireplace mantle which was covered in soot was still in the same condition, there was dust in the kitchen drawers etc etc. I would have expected SO much more for the money. I almost cried because we were moving in the next day and now needed to clean everything from top to bottom after spendig $240!!! read more

I hired dial-a-maid to clean my 700 sf one bedroom condo. They quoted me $104 for two people for two hours. The maids came and did an OK job cleaning. They basically only do what you tell them to do. If I don't tell them to wipe the dust off the microwave vent, they don't. There were many things that were not cleaned or dusted. They missed so many spots. Dial-a-maid only takes cash if it's your first time. I found this odd and maybe shady. The appointment lady said that I would get a receipt. Well it came time to pay, I gave them my cash and the lady said that she didn't have a receipt for me. I took a photo of the receipt for my records. read more

Waste of money. Paid $300 for my three bedroom apartment in a suburb of Chicago and when I got home I could barely tell they had been here. Big light hanging down in the middle of the kitchen not cleaned. Bathroom mirror still schumutzy. Shelf under the end table in the living room still dusty. And yet...it appears they took all the books off my five-shelf bookshelf because they were all reshelved wrong. Why spend the time taking books off and putting them back on the wrong shelves and leave the bathroom mirror not done?? Didn't do all the windowsills--again, why only do some and not others? For that amount of money I should have been able to eat off the floor, not barely be able to tell the difference. That's a lot of money for a mediocre cleaning job. Not impressed--quite the opposite. All I can say is Wow! I didn't actually think it was possible to get the apartment clean again after that last tenant, but they proved me wrong. It took two teams working about four hours and now it's almost like new. They even got areas I was sure they'd miss (like around the air vents.)
