Wow! My husband and I found this gem while driving towards Houston from San Antonio area. It feels like Texas as soon as you walk in- southern decor, fresh barbecue smells. I was very pleased with how clean the restaurant was and how nice the staff were. I'm pretty sure they were the owner and owners family. Thank you all for making me and my husband feel so welcome and we will definitely be back if we're ever in town. Their fresh bbq line stops at 3 pm right now and their store closes at 5 pm but they still had sandwiches and sausages available for purchase which was nice!

    Not a mask in sight.

Ok. Where do I begin? It's a gas station. Not a restaurant. Don't think because they have the billboard on interstate 10 you'll find a fancy sit down eatery. The service here is abysmal. They have children working the service line. Nobody is following any safety guidelines. No one wears a mask. Period. Gloves were optional. While they do have a serving line it's not their primary concern. They are busier checking out customers from the store side. The food. Hey. The brisket wasn't bad. The ribs were awful. The sausage was good. The sides are ok. I guess for our here in the middle of nowhere it serves a purpose. I won

The brisket here is good enough to inspire an engineer to poetry. Great food, great place, good people.

Amazing food and friendly locals. Stopped by at this place while cruising in TX-80 to gas up until we noticed this place looks interesting. In pandemic situation, I'm kind of disappointed that the place is allowing customers to come in without mask and staff are not wearing any masks or gloves. I enjoyed their brisket and pork ribs, the meat was really tender, juicy, and tasty. The Bar-B-Q Sandwich was great especially the brisket but I didn't enjoy the bread they used, I was hoping they would use burger buns instead. I think the Mac and Cheese is soupy with it's cheese, it's better if the cheese was thicker and cheesier. The Peach Cobbler was the best we ordered, not too sweet, it melts in your mouth, and it's still good in room temperatures.

Today we thought we'd venture out and try some sides and meat by the pound. Jadyn, the young lady serving sides was great. She greeted us with a smile and had some great suggestions, which we took and were not disappointed. Aidan G and Chris at the meat counter and register were also really good. Both were patient and friendly while we decided on what to get. Overall, we had a great experience, the food was excellent and the staff were friendly and outgoing.

One of the highlights was getting to walk by the pits and chat with the staff. They even gave us a little tour and explained the smoking process. You can tell they take a lot of pride in what they do. We ordered the Large Family Pack for the group, which consists of 6 lbs of meat and 5 quarts of sides. We also added a beef rib to the order, and there was more than enough food for everyone. In fact, we still had leftovers. We tried the brisket, beef ribs, pork ribs, turkey, and jalapeno cheese sausage. For sides, mac & cheese, Mexican rice, potato salad, cream corn, and cole slaw. Everything was delicious, but my personal favorites were the cream corn and beef ribs. I've been to a few Terry Black's locations, but Lockhart is the one I'd gladly go back to again and again. Great barbecue, great people, and a great experience.

Well, there's another one called "City Market" that skipped right past me. Or, no one thought to tell me. It's one or the other because this place is pretty popular with lines out the door! So I heard about City Market BBQ, the same day I drove to Luling, Texas! It's an hour outside of Austin. City Market is in the downtown area, and parking was a breeze; the line I saw on the sidewalk coming from City Market, I must admit, was long, but it was a breeze, too. Now, this is on Wednesday, not the weekend. I hopped in line, the line moving fast. People are friendly, telling me that once I'm inside, there's another door I will go into to place my order. I like to call this the secret door with all the good smells of smoky barbecue. Check out my pictures of the secret door; you can't even see inside. I'm there, I made it inside, and there's 3 of the most friendly older gentlemen I will ever meet in my life. One of them caught on that I haven't been in a kitchen, never in my life, when he started asking if I wanted 1/4 of brisket. I whispered, "Give me three or four, because I'm not good at math either." Oh, we had a great laugh! I sat down, picked on a rib, and the meat slid from the bone! It was so tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The skin had the right burnt in the right spots. The meat was moist and easy to chew. I was like the Flintstones cleaning the bones before I bit into my sausage and brisket. The sausage was very good, and my brisket was smoky, like my ribs. I have to brag about the sauce. It came in a skinny bottle. It was a new flavor for me; it wasn't spicy, but it had a nice heat to it that I loved! I'm so happy I chose to ride down to Luling to visit City Market as soon as I heard about this BBQ place. I would have been so mad at myself if I had waited and forgotten!

The meat was seasoned well, but the brisket was a little dry. The barbecue sauce it's pretty good. They give you pickles when you order your meat and they have an option of dill pickle versus sweet pickles. I liked both. The meat and the sides are ordered in different locations. The sides are ordered at the counter as soon as you walk in. The potato salad was very good with enough mustard, but not so much that's it's overwhelming. The Beans had good flavor as well. We did try the banana pudding and that wasn't great. Everyone is super friendly. They have plenty of seating inside. Parking is street parking and you may have to walk depending how busy the area is.

All the meats were fantastic although my chicken was tough but the flavor was great. Their smoked sausage is amazing! Brisket was tender with good bark and great seasoning. Ribs were smokey and fell off the bone. I can see why its on the Texas Monthly to 50 list. The meat didnt need sauce but I used a little anyway and there vinegar base sauce is really good. The potatoe salad is just normal store bought potato salad nothing special just ok. Pinto beans were the same. Just ok. Would be better if they added some love to them. Like chopped brisket, garlic, onion and put on smoker to get that smokey flavor. But I dont go to bbq places for the sides to be the star. All in all a great place great food and its worth stopping at.

I digress. Let's get this review going: This family-owned bbq joint opened their door just a couple of years ago (2023). Don't let this new establishment concern you because these folks have been at it for years. Their previous place was in Rosenberg and it opened back in 1990. Prior to that , the owner's parents started their first place back in 1964. Proper, generational barbecue...it's in their blood. In fact, I'm pretty sure their blood is bbq sauce. They know what they're doing! The restaurant and covered patio are modern and industrial with wood, brick, and metal elements. Ample seating inside and out. The food is bombastic! Sometimes they have an Italian beef sandwich that I'm just crazy about. Love these other sandwiches too: Brisket Turkey Sausage Boyfriend loves the pulled pork sandwich. The brisket nachos are mouth-watering goodness. They have brisket tostadas that I've not tried yet but definitely plan to. I lose my mind for the peach crumble and the boyfriend loves the pecan cobbler. Sides we love: Brisket rice!! Tater tot casserole!! I went in today with my three-year-old son during lunch hour on a weekday and it just felt like the elder crowd was like "what are they doing here?" As I walked in. Now Maybe I'm a little guarded I mean, I'm a single full-time Dad prior military, so I'm protective and observant. Plus, some guy in a big ol truck of course ( mind you I have a truck) decided that he wanted to almost hit my son and I as we' attempted to walking across the parking lot. I digress, but it was to the extent that I didn't even want to sit inside, so we sat on the patio. Which reminds me 91° outside and the patio well well ventilated, w/ breeze and felt good. All in all just an iffy experience. Food was good not great turkey was dry but the baked potato salad will have me back through the drive-thru through.
