For those of you who seem obsessed with the amount of pending drafts I have…read more and when I get them done and how many I do at a time... Take note, I'm now in my Seguin pending draft phase. I digress. Let's get this review going: This family-owned bbq joint opened their door just a couple of years ago (2023). Don't let this new establishment concern you because these folks have been at it for years. Their previous place was in Rosenberg and it opened back in 1990. Prior to that , the owner's parents started their first place back in 1964. Proper, generational barbecue...it's in their blood. In fact, I'm pretty sure their blood is bbq sauce. They know what they're doing! The restaurant and covered patio are modern and industrial with wood, brick, and metal elements. Ample seating inside and out. The food is bombastic! Sometimes they have an Italian beef sandwich that I'm just crazy about. Love these other sandwiches too: Brisket Turkey Sausage Boyfriend loves the pulled pork sandwich. The brisket nachos are mouth-watering goodness. They have brisket tostadas that I've not tried yet but definitely plan to. I lose my mind for the peach crumble and the boyfriend loves the pecan cobbler. Sides we love: Brisket rice!! Tater tot casserole!! Mac + cheese Buttered potatoes Do yourselves a favor, go pig out at this pit room. You'll be glad you did! PS: stellar service too

I went in today with my three-year-old son during lunch hour on a weekday and it just felt like the elder crowd was like "what are they doing here?" As I walked in. Now Maybe I'm a little guarded I mean, I'm a single full-time Dad prior military, so I'm protective and observant. Plus, some guy in a big ol truck of course ( mind you I have a truck) decided that he wanted to almost hit my son and I as we' attempted to walking across the parking lot. I digress, but it was to the extent that I didn't even want to sit inside, so we sat on the patio. Which reminds me 91° outside and the patio well well ventilated, w/ breeze and felt good. All in all just an iffy experience. Food was good not great turkey was dry but the baked potato salad will have me back through the drive-thru through.

Well, there's another one called "City Market" that skipped right past me. Or, no one thought to tell me. It's one or the other because this place is pretty popular with lines out the door! So I heard about City Market BBQ, the same day I drove to Luling, Texas! It's an hour outside of Austin. City Market is in the downtown area, and parking was a breeze; the line I saw on the sidewalk coming from City Market, I must admit, was long, but it was a breeze, too. Now, this is on Wednesday, not the weekend. I hopped in line, the line moving fast. People are friendly, telling me that once I'm inside, there's another door I will go into to place my order. I like to call this the secret door with all the good smells of smoky barbecue. Check out my pictures of the secret door; you can't even see inside. I'm there, I made it inside, and there's 3 of the most friendly older gentlemen I will ever meet in my life. One of them caught on that I haven't been in a kitchen, never in my life, when he started asking if I wanted 1/4 of brisket. I whispered, "Give me three or four, because I'm not good at math either." Oh, we had a great laugh! I sat down, picked on a rib, and the meat slid from the bone! It was so tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The skin had the right burnt in the right spots. The meat was moist and easy to chew. I was like the Flintstones cleaning the bones before I bit into my sausage and brisket. The sausage was very good, and my brisket was smoky, like my ribs. I have to brag about the sauce. It came in a skinny bottle. It was a new flavor for me; it wasn't spicy, but it had a nice heat to it that I loved! I'm so happy I chose to ride down to Luling to visit City Market as soon as I heard about this BBQ place. I would have been so mad at myself if I had waited and forgotten!

The meat was seasoned well, but the brisket was a little dry. The barbecue sauce it's pretty good. They give you pickles when you order your meat and they have an option of dill pickle versus sweet pickles. I liked both. The meat and the sides are ordered in different locations. The sides are ordered at the counter as soon as you walk in. The potato salad was very good with enough mustard, but not so much that's it's overwhelming. The Beans had good flavor as well. We did try the banana pudding and that wasn't great. Everyone is super friendly. They have plenty of seating inside. Parking is street parking and you may have to walk depending how busy the area is.

Their brisket is divine and the sides we chose were out of this world. My husband loves their beans. The green beans were unique and I appreciated that they were super flavorful with tomatoes and delicious broth. The star of the show with the sides was the King Ranch Mac N Cheese!!!! I grew up on King Ranch Chicken Casserole as a child. So I was thrilled to have a macaroni with those delicious flavors. For a little history, that particular casserole emerged in the 1950s as a convenient, post-World War II Tex-Mex comfort food. Despite its name, it has no actual ties to Texas's famous King Ranch; instead, it is a creative, canned-soup-based casserole inspired by the Mexican dish chilaquiles. I am ususally underwhelmed by macaroni and cheese but this was the best. The macaroni shape was unusual and the closest I could find online was called "Radiator" because the similarity in shape to a radiator. It held the sauce perfectly though. McKayla helped us cart out our food to the car and was so sweet and helpful. We love Burnt Bean and plan to return!

You cannot try a wide variety of their dishes but it was enough for me. I had pick up at 10:30 and you just go to the back a bit of a wait like 10-15 minutes since they cut the meat to order. I got the brisket (2 lbs), pork ribs (2 lbs) , jalapeño sausage (1lb), and quart sizes of the corn pudding, tater tot dish, and hot cheeto mac and cheese. The stars were definitely the pork rib (super flavorful and tender), the brisket was fall apart tender, and the jalapeno sausage had a beautiful snap and is properly spicy. I was a bit disappointed with the sides. My favorite was probably the corn pudding but I still prefer a nice roasted corn OR a corn bread but this was a very unique combo of the two. The mac was okay and same with the tater tot side (honestly the potatoes were quite salty). The sauce isn't my favorite since I personally prefer a spicier sauce. The bread they have is very nice and the people are friendly. It's also quite smoky inside.

All the meats were fantastic although my chicken was tough but the flavor was great. Their smoked sausage is amazing! Brisket was tender with good bark and great seasoning. Ribs were smokey and fell off the bone. I can see why its on the Texas Monthly to 50 list. The meat didnt need sauce but I used a little anyway and there vinegar base sauce is really good. The potatoe salad is just normal store bought potato salad nothing special just ok. Pinto beans were the same. Just ok. Would be better if they added some love to them. Like chopped brisket, garlic, onion and put on smoker to get that smokey flavor. But I dont go to bbq places for the sides to be the star. All in all a great place great food and its worth stopping at.

One of the highlights was getting to walk by the pits and chat with the staff. They even gave us a little tour and explained the smoking process. You can tell they take a lot of pride in what they do. We ordered the Large Family Pack for the group, which consists of 6 lbs of meat and 5 quarts of sides. We also added a beef rib to the order, and there was more than enough food for everyone. In fact, we still had leftovers. We tried the brisket, beef ribs, pork ribs, turkey, and jalapeno cheese sausage. For sides, mac & cheese, Mexican rice, potato salad, cream corn, and cole slaw. Everything was delicious, but my personal favorites were the cream corn and beef ribs. I've been to a few Terry Black's locations, but Lockhart is the one I'd gladly go back to again and again. Every bbq joint in Lockhart can hold their own for special reasons. I moved to Las Vegas over 14 years ago. My husband really wanted to try Terry Black's. I was a bit iffy because of course I knew the bbq in Lockhart but the vibe was really cool and the way bbq should be eaten so I gave in. The huge smokers are outdoors and you can see the action. They put the wood they use to smoke on display and they have indoor, outdoor covered seating and outdoor uncovered seating. On Sunday they even had a live band playing outdoors. We walked inside and started with the sides. The Mac and cheese looked good and I like the larger noodles, cream corn and potato salad were our other two sides. We also ordered peach cobbler for dessert. Then we got to the bbq. There was no ask if we wanted lean or moist. You are just going to get 'darn good' brisket. Today is not the day to worry about calories. Our meat guy was super friendly and cut our meats perfectly. He was very generous & genuinely excited about us trying our food. We ordered half of each of the regular and jalapeno cheese sausage, & a beef rib. This beef rib was the size of my forearm! I tried to say nevermind because that thing was a Flintstone bone but my son said we could eat it. On to our seats and eats.....first pull of the brisket with my fork and it was literally melting. I could barely pick it up with my fork. Well this is why you should use your hand! Dang.....I am a Texas girl and this place is hands down the BEST brisket I have ever had!! Just....WOW!!! I had a hard time eating it with bbq sauce as it was cooked to perfection and didn't need a thing. It was the star of the plate! The HUGE beef rib was good and came right off the bone. It was a bit salty on the outside parts for us but still delicious. The sausage was incredible. It melted in our mouths. I didn't even know meat could do that. The flavors were amazing. The sides held their own as the Mac and cheese was so creamy and didn't have that cheddar grit. I would have to say it is my new favorite Mac and cheese. I took a bite of my cream corn and was amazed at the flavor. I was expecting a corn flavor with a flavor thickened sauce but this was a flavor bomb & I was in love. The potato salad was good but not my favorite. The other two sides did just fine on their own. I hate to say I didn't really like the peach cobbler. I grew up with peach trees in our yard and my southern mom made a smoked peach cobbler that no one has ever been able to duplicate. I didn't have any problem going back to eating that brisket as my dessert though. The BBQ sauce.....oh gosh. They have 3 different ones: original, spicy, and sweet. They were all great. Nothing overly tangy or too powerful to mask the meat. It is a perfect compliment to your bbq if you decide to use it. Trust me! You will be just fine without it also. This is the best bbq place in Texas. I will be sad to go back home to Vegas and will wait for my next trip to Texas just so I can come to Terry Black's again.
