This is perfect for anyone looking for an old-fashioned diner. This place is very little but gives off a nice vibe. The menu is very broad and named after some people who have came in before. Most people LOVE the Reuben, even though I'm not a huge fan. I usually get a turkey sandwich. The bread is too crispy for my taste, but it's overall a good meal. They sometimes have soup, and I was told to get the Mac n cheese whenever they have it available. read more

After searching lunch places on our way from CT to Ohio State, we stopped at the Diamond Deli in Akron because of the Yelp reviews. It did not disappoint. We arrived just before the lunch crowd. Service was friendly and quick, people were spaced out pretty well, and although there wasn't much seating, they alternated for Covid purposes so it was fine. Sandwiches were very good (pastrami & chicken salad) and prices were fair. Place was clean with 80's music playing. Let me tell you how to make a successful deli. First, find a building that was built or styled in the '80s. Don't change anything. Clean it, because literal filth is unacceptable but please don't change the style. Then before you have any ideas for what to serve as food, come up with lots and lots of random phrases. Phrases like, Mom come get me, I'm sick. Chuck's working hard, Lynda isn't. Where's Jason. Yeah they make no sense, that what I thought too. Next, assign ingredients to these phrases that have nothing to do with what the phrase means. I got the Old Bald Guy. It had turkey, smoked Gouda, green apples, bacon and onion on ciabatta. If I remember right. I was possibly too distracted by the fear of getting a parking ticket to remember exactly what was on my burrito. (Wait, was that a burrito I ate? Noo, surely it was a sandwich. It was good I think, because I recall feeling very successful about finding such a wonderful food.) Yeah, street parking is available outside and if you're as lucky as I was, don't bother going through the hassle of paying. Oh yeah. A key part is to put a couple happy old geezers behind the counter to cook up your food. That'll make everyone happy. read more

Wow, Akron! Awesome deli! Ate here for the first time a couple of days ago after a trip to Stan Hywet with family from out of town. Between the four of us, we tried 3 different sandwiches. All of us agreed they were fantastic! I got the 'Chad'. Mustard, swiss, corned beef, pastrami all on grilled rye with a pickle on the side. Pefection! If you get a drink you can add chips to your meal for just 10 cents. And they have Dr. Pepper on the fountain! Really a first-rate deli. Lots of people from outside of this area don't realize that northeast Ohio is truly the corned beef capital of America. Screw New York and, god forbid, LA. Manny's in Chicago doesn''t even have a leg up on NEO corned beef. The Diamond Deli, in downtown Akron appeals to the office crowd by day and the University of Akron crowd after hours. The staff is friendly. The sandwiches are hefty and made with really great ingredients. And, everything on the menu is really affordable. I have always felt that a good Reuben was the sum of its parts, Diamond Deli definitely does its Reuben right. House made corned beef or their wonderful house made brisket, crispy kraut, homemade thick thousand island and swiss all perfectly grilled up on crispy rye bread. Diamond Deli is open til 8 every night. Expect a line and a wait for a seat if you show up at lunch time. These overstuffed sandwiches draw a big crowd. read more

So I finally got around to coming here after seeing Lebron James tweet about this place. It appeared to be one of those old landmark places where they never renovate or remodel trying to maintain the mystique of long ago. I suppose they let the food speak for itself and not the decor. I had the Reuben and my nephew had the Chad, we both had potato salads. It was great, hands down the best corn beef out there. It was messy but I didnt mind. The Pastrami was also top notch.There is definitely something special to the way they cook the food. The potato salad was fresh and surprisingly good, I was expecting the kind you get from a distributor or Costco. Diamond Deli is the Katz Deli of Ohio, for sure. Sandwiches made with love! How have I missed enjoying this homespun deli for the last 14 years. It reminds of a true Chicago or NY deli counter. Staffers with a little attitude (in a good way!) a little hole in the wall spot on Main Street with just enough booths and tables to keep everyone happy. Belly up to the deli counter and order up one of the delicious sandwiches all with special names. The "Where's Jason" features turkey,fixins of a BLT along with avocado. "The Boxty" is a lean corned beef Reuben sandwiched between potato pancakes. Grilled cheese is a combo of Colby and Swiss with sprinkled Parmesan on the toasted bread. I wanted to love this place. I really did. I sent my daughter in to get me a Reuben.... the kid behind the counter said "with only meat and cheese ".... um, no. That would be a Corned beef honey..... Well, anyhow. I wanted to love the sandwich, however the Corned beef was so stinking grissly that I was shocked. I can't honestly believe that they serve that quality of meat there. I would be embarrassed if I was serving that. I really was shocked. I mean it was sticking in my teeth chewy. I would definitely try them again, however that would be when the snob in me would come out and I would have to insist no chewy Corned beef. The matzo ball soup also was lacking. It tastes like they opened up a can of chicken broth, whipped up the matzo meal and PLoP!!!!! Into the unflavored/seasoned both....but oh--- they did add some carrots to it. Come on guys. Make a mirepoix and season the stock properly. Doesn't take much. You could totally be rocking that soup..... And....another thing is ----why don't we serve the sandwiches in foam containers?? Wrapping up a hot sandwich in deli paper and then foil leads to a very soggy and mushy aftermath. Just an FYI. Ps....added 5/5/16....I'm quite shocked that NO effort has been made on the owners behalf to comment or make things right in my situation. I know them on a business level...I don't think they realize this..but I was a little surprised that they didn't go out of their way to try to make up for the bad experience seeing how their reviews are pretty good and and obviously my.visit was a oversight of another worker perhaps?? Having grown up around Great Cleveland Deli's like Goodmans, Slyman's, and Superior Deli I have been a snob to finding a good quality product in the Akron Area for years. Well my wait is over... Thank you Diamond Deli!!! I know you've been there for years but I just discovered your greatness. Our office drives past Primo's and treks into the city to pick up sandwiches rather than ordering from them. That should tell you they are legit. Good size sammy's that you wont say after an hour "I'm still Hungry". The Corned Beef is flavorful and moist and the Pastrami is peppery like it should be. The turkey and ham are both good quality products as well. But what always sends me to food nirvana is getting a bowl of Matzo Ball soup. It cures all!! Fresh and tasty every time! The lunchtime lines are long, so call ahead to save yourself a long wait if you have a big order and give yourself enough time to find a parking spot and run in - YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!! read more

Another successful visit to DD in Akron. I got the He Ain't Heavy, He's Our Brother Marc sandwich with Middlefield Swiss added and it was delicious. Crispy bread, chewy melted Swiss, and perfectly sliced corned beef along with pastrami. Perfection. I ordered a Ruben to go and the order came out a little off (dressing on the sandwich, requested on the side), but the very courteous dude on the line caught it and corrected the situation right away. Nice little find for me while working real estate deals in Akron. I got Josh's "I made the deans list." Turkey, corned beef, thousand island, Cole slaw, Swiss cheese and Rye bread grilled. Not a lot of true deli's in the area to choose from. I think that is primarily the reason for the high rating. In LA we have lots of deli's to choose from and a place like Diamond would have to do much improvement to stay in business. Their meat cuts are poor at best and their breads are marinated in butter. The service was good though and I give this place 3 stars because it's a decent lunch shop. What is there left to say about the Diamond Deli? Best sandwiches in Akron? Check! Cool, throwback atmosphere? Check! Innovative takes on classic deli fare? Check! Fun staff that is helpful and entertaining! Check plus! The Diamond Deli has been one of my favorites for a while now. My favorite sandwiches there are Amy's Sound of Music, which it buttered and grilled challah bread, smoked turkey, Muenster cheese, and a really great honey mustard sauce, and the Zach's Yeah Right Dad, which is a Chicken Salad sandwich with Swiss, blt and honey mustard on rye. Something about the Amy, the grilled bread, the combo of the slightly melted cheese, the smokey turkey and that mustard sauce just makes my heart pitter patter! It's freakin great! And to say the Zach's is the best chicken salad sandwich I've ever had is a huge understatement! It amazing! The bacon and the cheese just elevate it so much! And you can't leave without a brownie! They are awesome! Soft and chewy, and that icing is light, fluffy heaven on my tongue. I've had probably another 8-10 sandwiches here, and they are all great! The sugar cookies are delicious as well! I've never tried any soups, but I've heard great things about them as well. And the folks that work here are just fantastic! It doesn't matter if you are a regular, or just stopping in for your first time, they are a hoot! Seriously, they make the best sandwiches in the entire akron area! read more

The food is always fresh, the people are friendly and the prices are reasonable. It's a little small, so during the lunch rush it gets crowded - I suggest you either go early or late, even if you are calling for pickup. There are options for everyone, except vegan (other than the typical salad). I am a vegetarian and get either the egg salad sandwich, or the veggie melt and when it's an option their broccoli cheese soup. Also, I recommend their carrot cake - it's amazing. This is a great old-school deli. Each sandwich is made to order, and the ingredients are always fresh. They have many different sandwiches (all with their own special name) and do allow for customization. I especially like the homemade brownies with a rich frosting to pair with my sandwich. The only drawback is there is usually a line and it can take anywhere from 10-25 min. to get through it between 11:30-1:00. read more
