My boyfriend and I were in the area for my work and decided we wanted a good deli sandwich. Looked on yelp, saw this place had five stars...and well it was correct! This place is way better than five stars, I'd give it 10! This place absolutely rules! We walked in and asked them what there most popular sandwiches were. The response we got was, "well are you picky? Do you mind surprises?!" Of course we don't! When a places tells you something like that you instantly get good vibes. I go here often for lunch with my coworkers. This is the spot on Akron for Reubens, grilled style sandwiches, and your classic deli favorites! Don't ignore the stand up coolers when you first come in, there is a good selection of (awesome) desserts (carrot cake, chocolate brownies) and beer (craft brews and the like). There's a reason this place has four and a half stars, they do things right. The portions here are enormous. Warning- you may get your sandwich spilling all over you. The corned beef, pastrami and turkey are all delicious and their huge selection of sandwiches makes choosing something you like easy since there is something for everyone. UPDATE: Sorry, I realize that I hadn't written an update, even though I ate here several more times after writing the initial review. I had the Chad's with both meats, and it's better that way. Yes, even better than the awesomeness that is the sandwich with just the corned beef. I also tried the matzo ball soup one day, then ate it on ever subsequent visit. I also tried other sandwiches, but the Chad's was my favorite. So, in conclusion, if you've never eaten here before, order a Chad's with everything (make sure you get a pickle) and a cup of matzo ball soup (ask the cashier for it when you pay). You will be in excellent spirits for the rest of the day. I wish they could make me a sandwich and then send it same day priority express out here to California. read more

I know when I come in here, I'll always be welcomed by friendly staff and delicious sandwiches. All of my experiences have been spaced out, but each of them were up to par with what you expect. Diamond Deli looks like a hole in the wall, but it's the kind you need to venture into. All the sandwiches are stacked high and satisfy your hunger. Very good food and nice Friendly atmosphere. The soup was excellent as were the sandwiches the only draw back was that we had a 6 year old with us and there was not much for her to choose from. What else needs to be said about this place that hasn't already: I've been coming here for the past four years with family and friends and every time I'm here the service is exemplary. Be warned though: this place can get a long line at lunch so you may have to wait 15 minutes: but let me tell you the wait is worth it for the quality of food. The pastrami and the old bald guy are my two favorites and I would recommend either to someone on their first try. The matzo ball soup is on point and they have a decent chip/ dessert selection. Very average, I'd say. I've really only had sandwiches with corned beef from this place (and boring soup, once). There may be something that I'm missing, perhaps? Another commenter put it very well: lack of competition gives this place better ratings than it really deserves. I always feel like the sandwich isn't quite hot enough or fresh enough. Bread is maybe a little under-buttered and under-toasted. Atmosphere is okay, depending on who's working. There's one dude who is really friendly - usually wears a hat, I think? Convenient location "down town" with limited on street parking. They routinely are rated as best corned beef in town....but that's because locals do not compare them to Corkey and Lennies in Cleveland where New York style lean and 2 inch layered thin sliced corned beef is served on real seeded rye with a kosher pickle on the side. This Gem is everything a deli should be and more. We had the Chuck's Working Hard, Brother Marc, pasta salad and potato salad. The meat is so flavorful and tender (pastrami, corned beef and roast beef), 1000 island is spot on. The salads were amazing. The pasta salad had a great dressing and nice strips of sun dried tomatoes. The potato salad was simple but tasty, the way potato salad should be. Got a half off deal on livingsocial.com so I had to try out this Akron staple to see what all the fuss was about. As far as delis go, I get the same sandwich everytime, turkey, so you probably have to TRY and mess that up. I won't rave about the sandwich because it was pretty average. I really didn't think it was that large either like other reviewers did. I did love how they offered a few breads, including pumpernickel which you don't really see. Got the carrot cake because I'd read how great it was and it did NOT disappoint! Usually carrot cake can be kind of dry, or the icing is just too cream cheesy. This was PERFECT! Good thing there were other people at my house to eat the rest of it or I would have had to do an extra workout or 2 from eating the whole thing. Also got the broccoli salad and a cup of cajun clam bisque. The broccoli salad was good with bacon and raisins, maybe a little too much dressing. Didn't eat much of it. The bisque was fantastic though, just a little spicy and had nice chunks of clam in it. Probably wouldn't go out of my way to eat here because I can think of other delis that are similar, but I'd recommend it. Prices were good too. Amazing! Lunch here really hit the spot - we knew we were somewhere good when we saw the line...it was totally worth the wait! The sandwiches are pretty big, so you may be able to get away with splitting one depending on your appetite. All of them have cute names. My mom and I split "Clay's an Eagle Scout" - roast beef, turkey, hot pepper cheese, lettuce, onions, and Russian Dressing. The meats were flavorful, juicy, and super delicious, and the bread was buttery and crisp from the griddle. So, so good. Absolutely love this place. My son has been at Akron Children's for 70+ days now and this is our go-to lunch. Sandwiches are piled with meat, soups have never disappointed, and I love the cookies. The staff are very friendly and easy to talk to, and never fail to ask how it was. My favorite so far is the Rachel, and my wife's is the Old Bald Guy. I've been to the Deli several times and the food they serve is hands down the best. I consider myself a sandwich expert and they know how to make a lot of different sandwiches. Also, if you go in and get a plain turkey sandwich with lettuce and tomato that's what you're going to get, a boring sandwich. Let them do their thing and make a sweet sandwich for you! Also, all of the employees are great company to talk to while you're there. Oh last note, it says they don't have alcohol, they do! The Diamond Deli is an Akron institution. I've been here numerous times and the food and service are always on point. I highly recommend going during non-peak lunch hours because they get slammed! I tried to go before lunch only to wait in the line on the sidewalk with everyone else. If you see the line, get in it! It's worth it. You'll see sodas in the cooler when you walk in but they also have fountain drinks so you have choices. There are oodles of sandwich combinations with fun names. We've tried a few but our go-to sandwich is the #1 Mom, Come Get Me-I'm Sick. It has smoked turkey, Swiss cheese, bacon and crazy-good mustard! I also get the matzo ball soup which is the best I've ever had. My kids' faces light up when I suggest going here. They'd rather have Diamond Deli over any restaurant and savor every bite. Parking is metered street parking and don't forget to tip the hardworking staff. They need the funds for alcohol. Great personalities abound at the Deli! read more
