Holy Deli this place is good! Decided to grab a bite before the Rubberducks game and saw Diamond Deli. We visit Akron a lot so I have no idea how we have not eaten here before now. They have some very creative sandwich names which makes deciding what to order a lot of fun. More importantly, the sandwiches are out of this world! Huge pilings of meat between slices of fresh bread. How can you go wrong? There are a couple famous delis up in Cleveland but Diamond Deli should certainly be in the same conversation. We Went to the diamond before a baseball game. Service was fast and friendly, the staff did a good job. I had the Rachel which was excellent! My wife had a Reuben. Both were toasted perfect. We split a potato salad, the large which was plenty for us to split I also love the signs that declare "if you are on the phone get out of line". Being on the phone is annoying to the staff and those of us trying to order. I want to go back and try the beef brisket. It is on limited days so check before going. read more

This is the best deli around probably in the State of Ohio. Everything is fresh, even their outstanding soups. They are are service oriented restaurant with very, very high quality food. I like the fact that they have a sign that says you cannot order if you are on the phone. Awesome! I have worked in Downtown Akron for the past 17 years. Diamond Deli doesn't look like much on the exterior but they crank out the best sandwiches. Try a corned beef, pastrami on potato pancakes, or Where's Jason? You can't go wrong. Each sandwich has a name and if hot is done grilled on a panini press. I ate here today for the second time. I don't live in Akron anymore and that's the only reason I'm not a regular here. Today, my dad and I got two sandwiches and split them. We had the Chad (corned beef, pastrami, swiss, hot mustard) and the Brother Marc (corned beef, pastrami, swiss, cole slaw, thousand island). Wow. The quality of the meat is just unparalleled (looking at you nasty ass Primo's). The bread was fresh and flavorful. And I appreciated that the sandwiches weren't drowning in their toppings; there was enough to taste but it didn't overpower the meat, which is the real star of the show. Both sandwiches were 7.50 and I left stuffed with some leftovers. What really pushes this into the 5 star territory is the service. We had also ordered a sandwich to go. I forgot to ask the man who waited on us to wrap it up, but he insisted on taking it back behind the counter and wrapping it up. He also helped me carry the sandwiches to the table. Genuinely friendly service is such a rarity and I really appreciated it today. Everyone working seemed to really enjoy their jobs and was in a great mood. This must be a fun place to work. They all seemed to have a camaraderie but they were still very professional. The man sitting next to us was waiting for his sandwich for a really long time and they wound up comping his meal once it arrived. Even what I assume are rare mistakes are corrected quickly and with a smile. All-in-all, it really doesn't get better than Diamond Deli. I bet it can be crazy in here during lunchtime and just keep in mind that everything really is made to order. It's worth the wait but that may be one downside for the lunch crowd. Looking forward to returning the next time I visit Akron. I've got my eye on the Boxty, a reuben on potato pancakes. Swoon. read more
