Yes, it's worth the wait!! I finally did it. After what feels like several geological eras, multiple decades, and approximately a billion years of living in Arizona, I finally stopped at Diamond Point Shadow Steakhouse. Every single time I'd drive by, one of two things would happen: they were closed, or I was in time crunch to my next destination. It became one of those places that lived permanently on my Arizona bucket list. Well, bucket list item officially crossed off! The food was exceptional, the service was outstanding, and now I'm kicking myself for not making the stop years ago. Everything was well worth the wait...literally and figuratively. A word of advice: get there right when they open at 4:00 PM. We intentionally ate an early supper, and I'm glad we did because the place fills up fast. If you show up later, be prepared to wait. That said, after finally experiencing it for myself, I'd say it's worth the wait either way. Some things in life don't live up to the hype. Diamond Point Shadow Steakhouse does. We planned a Mother's Day/60th Birthday dinner in our new town. The restaurant came hightly recommended. After we were seated someone came around with a dessert tray showing us the desserts that were being offered complimentary for mothers day. Yah! We ordered an Old Fashioned and a Vodka Sour cocktail while were were perusing the menu since we hadn't been there before. The waitress was cute and kind and trying to do a good job. Mind you, the restaurant was not at capacity, nor was there a wait to get in. Our drinks came and they brought me a manhattan (not an old fashioned) with no ice and the cocktail cherry and orange wedge was put in my husbands Vodka sour ‍ ...ok they were a little confused at the bar. No problem. The server decided to bring me some cherries (maraschino, not cocktail) to make up for it (thanks but not the issue) Next we ordered dinner with our salads and they were delivered to the opposite person. Which isn't a big deal but there are only 2 people at our table. Dinner was fine he ordered a ribeye w/rice pilaf and I ordered the Barramundi with rice pilaf. The fish was nice, I'd never had it before and the ribeye was ok, nothing spectacular. Then the complimentary Mother's Day Dessert choice I made was creme brûlée as it's my favorite. Well it wasn't the dessert they walked around the restaurant advertising, it was a tiny little cup but as the server said "at least it's free" And boom, here comes the bill....we were charged full price for the complimentary Mother's Day dessert. And, we didn't notice until after we had paid the bill. Now, mind you the server was tipped based on the check total. When it was brought to her attention she tells us that we can either have a restaurant credit, or return the whole bill and charge us again but the refund of the bill would take 3 days. We told her to just take care of us next time since we are new to the area and hope to have a better experience next time we visit. read more

(3 stars - and that feels generous) Let me start by saying this was our first visit -- and unfortunately, it will also be our last. You're fortunate to have thousands of people driving by, because I can't see many customers returning based on our experience. I'm honestly struggling to even give three stars. The restaurant itself is very nice, and the service was good. The staff were attentive and professional. Unfortunately, the food was not up to par -- especially for a steakhouse. I ordered the end cut of prime rib (only served on Saturdays), which I chose specifically because I usually love the extra flavor. This had absolutely zero flavor. No seasoning, no depth -- just bland meat. My husband ordered the grilled ribeye with shrimp and added garlic butter. His ribeye also had no flavor whatsoever -- even with the garlic butter. He ended up using some of my fresh horseradish and au jus just to give it some taste. The shrimp were equally disappointing -- completely bland. We also ordered the Saturday-only potatoes au gratin. They tasted like plain potatoes with salt. No richness, no cheesiness, no seasoning beyond that. For a steakhouse, flavor should be the highlight. Sadly, everything we tried lacked it. We went there specifically for the filet mignon. The meat was not the best quality. One positive point is I ordered medium rare and it was cooked as ordered. We waited over 25 to 30 minutes for the side dish of broccoli to finally come to the table. We were 3/4 finished our meal at the time. When the broccoli came, it was grossly undercooked, too hard to put a fork into. Not sure why we waited so long to have undercooked broccoli. If you're looking for a fabulous or even very good filet mignon, keep looking. read more

This was our third time here. (My husband and I) The first time we went, the owner introduced himself and talked about his family that had the restaurant for years and years. It was a great, memorable story and at that moment we decided that this would be our go to, support local, steakhouse. The food was good, our server attentive and kind and the owner was hospitable and shared a great family story. Sadly, tonight was a different story. Our apps were burnt. When we shared that with the owner, he said they like to make them well done. (Fried zucchini) We insisted they were burnt and he left. He came back 10 minutes later and acknowledged they were burnt and said the next order is on the house. The bartender we had this night (Sara - not the same woman we had the prior two visits) was inattentive and spent most of her time at the end of the bar with a loud, clearly intoxicated couple that really should have been cut off in my opinion. The owner was hanging out with them and Sara at the end of the bar as well. We had to ask for refills, ask for condiments, ask for our check etc. we were there for over two hours. The service was very poor, the food was mid, but this next part is icing on the cake. Our bill was around 100 bucks and due to the poor service, I left a small tip and was on the fence about leaving anything at all it was so bad. We paid our bill and left with a very bad taste in our mouths about the whole experience. The owner comes out, flags us down in our truck as we are leaving the parking lot and says "What? You're not gonna tip my bartender?" Clearly hostile. My husband responded for what? The service was horrible. He then proceeds to tell us not to come back. News flash, we weren't planning on returning after that. And we did tip her, what the service was worth. So the next time someone says their food is burnt, believe it. The next time a customer leaves a small tip, ask why and what could be addressed to make their visit better instead of chasing them down and telling them not to come back. SENTRY - WATCHING RESTAURANTS Diamond Point Shadows 6322 Hwy 260 Star Valley, AZ 85541 It was companions birthday and we were visiting in Payson, so this was very convenient. We were warned in advance to go early because on the weekend they fill up quickly. Arriving at 5:00 we were seated immediately. We were presented with menus and after a few minutes were ready to order. We started with fried mushrooms. These were probably the best mushrooms I have ever eaten! Hot, and not mushy, with a delicious coating on them. Next was lobster bisque. Absolutely delicious and if I wasn't afraid of running out of room I'd have ordered a second bowl. Our main course was the same for both of us. 12 ounce ribeye steaks, mine rare and companions medium rare. Both were cooked perfectly as ordered. I ordered a side of broccoli which they sauteed in scampi butter. Wonderful! Dessert was the only faux pas. Mine was cheesecake with strawberries, but companions was creme brulee which was not the greatest. Service was excellent and the premises were immaculate with tables being bussed as soon as people left. I would easily recommend this restaurant and will be returning whenever I go up to Payson. 5 stars for excellent food, cleanliness, and great service. read more

The ambiance is old world steak house. A little run down but it gives it character. We were here on a Sunday afternoon. We each ordered the ribeye steak. We had asked the server about a couple of menu items like the extra large T-bone steak, but they were out! Our server was polite and good at her job and overall, she was the highlight of the meal. The meal was good, but there were several things that just missed being okay! One example is the baked potato! For a $40.00 ribeye, when you order a baked potato with it, you would think that they could give you more than just butter and sour cream!!! No bacon bits! No chives! No shredded cheddar cheese! Even cheap steak houses at half the price give you these items!!! over all the meal was good, NOT GREAT! I'm a retired Chef, and although I worked in 5 Star restaurants the majority of my career, I'm not usually extremely critical, but when you are charging $40.00 For a ribeye steak, make sure that you're doing it because of quality and name NOW! Drove by lots of cars so we had no plans said let's try it. Went for my wife's birthday today just drove in from San Diego got a porterhouse cooked medium it was fantastic. Sides were buttered broccoli also fantastic baked potato cooked to perfection . For Dessert we had Crème brûlée also fantastic!!! We eat out a lot and most of the time are like we could make it better ourselves. Not this time i rate our experience 10 outta 10!!!! Food was amazing this is a mountain gem!!! We've been coming here for years, and will continue to. The service and ambiance is great, especially in the winter. The food is good, even if priced on the high side of reasonable. There is a new item, oysters on the half-shell that I just tried. They were delicious, but hilariously tiny. I mean the size of a quarter. Six of those miniscule morsels cost $15.95, which is just silly. Especially since I was told they were $12.95 and no mention was made that all six together was less to eat than a single normal oyster. The best thing here remains the off-menu mussles. This is our second time here. First was in June and on a Saturday night, which is also prime rib night.The first time was great so we decided to make sure we stopped in on this visit to Payson. Overall, the service was good. We did ask for a quiet table but were seated by the kitchen, bathroom and a large group that was quite noisy. They did accommodate us and moved us. My husband ordered ribs and I had the barramundi. The clam chowder was delicious but my fish was overcooked to the point of being crunchy all around. I did send it back, which I rarely do. The replacement was delicious until I got to the center, which was undercooked. I ate around that part and did enjoy the meal because the flavor was delicious. I let the waitress know and she offered a free dessert. I declined but let her know that I hoped it got back to the kitchen. There is no need to rush when something is sent back. Overcooked or undercooked, it still was not properly prepared. I will eat here again but not the fish. read more

A cute little spot with very good food. We sat at the bar and they brought us out complimentary veggies and crackers, which was a lovely touch. I was unimpressed to see the bartender (and owner/waiter/second bartender?) drinking wine while serving us, but the bartender was overall. Our appetizer and salads came out promptly; however, I think our dinner order got forgotten about as it took a VERY LONG time. They did give us $15 off our meal, but to be honest, I would have thought they'd comp us more. The atmosphere and food were wonderful otherwise though! My husband and I had dinner at your establishment this afternoon about 5:00ish. Sarah was our server, she was quick, pleasant and friendly. She suggested for us to have horse radish with our ribeyes and it was the perfect addition to our meal. The ribeyes were perfectly cooked to our medium rare request and it tasted amazing!! The chef even stopped by before Sarah brought our horse radish and said "I have some horse radish to go with that " we told him Sarah was already on it. All the staff was helpful and our teas were always full. We really enjoyed our dinner, and the ambiance of the restaurant and will always come back when we are in town! Well done everyone! read more

My wife and I traveled to Star Valley from Prescott Valley to have a Valentines dinner. When we arrived we were seated. We waited 30 minutes and no one came to our table while everyone around us was getting served. Then the manager came to our table and said this is our most popular day. We told her we have been waiting for 30 minutes and she offered to get us a drink which never happened and she also said to us we can leave if you want and we did. NEVER again and have never been treated so badly in a restaurant. It was a shame that we had to go somewhere else to eat. read more

It's just outside of town and gives the appearance of a rural country bar from the outside. The restaurant itself is cozy with a large fireplace in the back and a full bar. The menu and atmosphere make it a great place to have a nice dinner date or celebrate a special occasion. The food and drinks were great. The service is excellent as well. We called to make reservations but they told us we didn't need any and to walk in. When we walked in they asked if had reservations. That was confusing. They place was pretty packed. They did had a table to seat us all thou. The meals came with salad and a side. I got the half rack of ribs and they were good. Wished they had mash potatoes. Got the baked potato which was the closet thing lol. The salad was good. They didn't bring us enough bread for the table and they didn't bring it in the beginning either. They brought us veggies and ranch for complementary starters. I also got mozzarella sticks and they tasted weird and they weren't filled with cheese they were holy lol. They do make mocktail and I got a strawberry and it was okay. Not my favorite. read more

Garbage food and zero service. Been there twice. Fish fry was extra greasy and soggy greasy fries. Second time I ordered the lamb chops. It said they were served rare, I said rare please. They came out very well done and like shoe leather. I never saw waitstaff again. after about 30 minutes I finally walked into the bar and yelled if someone wants me to pay they have 30 seconds. They took my money and didn't know what happened to they waitstaff, "maybe they left" was what I was told. This was about 7:30 on a week night. AVOID THIS PLACE! read more

My husband and I have eaten at Diamond Point Shadows Steakhouse several times over the last year or two and we considered each visit wonderful until our last visit on January 25, 2026. We came in around 6 pm and our receipt says we checked out at 6:56 pm. Our server's name is listed as 'guest' and we were at table A3, so we don't even have a real name. The server could have been more attentive, but I must give her credit by saying she was nice. Unfortunately, that is the only plus I can give for the entire visit. First off, it looked like our table was her only table, yet she pretty much ignored us for most of the visit aside from taking our order and delivering food or drinks. Drink order-I order lemonade, she tells me they just ran out of lemonade. Really? Is it fresh squeezed? I would think they could stir up a new batch of powdered lemonade mix. So, I order root beer-fine, they have that. Neither my husband nor I were ever asked if we wanted a refill of our drinks the entire time we were eating. Food order-I ask what soup they have and she mentions the lobster bisque. We have both had that in the past and it was really good, so we wanted to order 2 bowls of that. She says there is only 1 bowl of lobster bisque left. She did not give us any other choice for soup, so my husband ended up with a salad, which looked a bit small and didn't have much in it but lettuce. We noticed other folks got soup after we ordered, but we couldn't tell what type of soup it was. My lobster bisque was ok, cold in one area and lukewarm in others. The spoon had some sort of sticky residue on it like when the spoon sits in cold soup for a while, which was not pleasant. I probably should have asked for a new spoon. Food order-we both order the ribeye/grilled shrimp combo which we have loved in the past. Husband ordered medium and I ordered medium well. My steak showed up about 1/4 as thick as his, it looked pounded down almost flat, much smaller than his steak and was charred and hard on the outside, barely chewable. The inside was a bit less done, but overall it was not cooked medium well, it was cooked well or beyond. I had to really chew hard and long to not choke on the meat. The baked potatoes were very good, although they looked a bit smaller than they have have been in the past. The shrimp was tasty, but lukewarm when we got our food. My husband tried to order mushrooms for his steak, but the server told him they didn't have any more mushrooms. We heard another server asking her table if they wanted mushrooms for their steaks and we saw her deliver at least one steak plate that had mushrooms on it and their order was taken and delivered after ours was. We also wondered about the bread we've usually been given without asking for it. We didn't get any bread at all, she didn't even ask us if we wanted bread. When I asked her about the bread she told us that diners have to ask for it, it isn't just served to the table unless people ask for it. Every other table in that place had bread and we even heard servers ask people if they wanted more bread. The server did offer to have some bread heated up and packed up for us to take home, but we declined, as we like it with the meal and not after we've eaten our entire meal. All said and done, we will give this place one more chance to redeem themselves. When a meal for 2 people is almost $100, I think we deserve better. I don't take leaving a bad review lightly, especially for a local restaurant as opposed to chain restaurants. Hopefully our next experience will be as good as the ones before this visit. read more

If it were possible , I would give a 6 th star! I took my husband there for his 62 end birthday. He was born in 1962 as Diamond Shadow was founded in 1962. Made sense to me at the time . The owner is committed to quality and excellence in presentation , preparation , extra touches passed down from his father , and welcoming his customers like family. Essence ( our server) was very busy , and never missed a beat providing above and beyond service. The food ( swordfish and filet mignon ) were cooked and seasoned to perfection. Melt in your mouth tender. This is off the beaten path and well worth the extra 6 miles. Mark Star Valley , you will come back and so will we!!! read more

I have passed this place many times and always wondered what the restaurant inside looked like and how the food would taste. Finally, after decades of wondering, I got to try, and I was not disappointed. You would never guess from the outside that the inside was so cozy and dimly lit with soft lighting and candles. It's also bigger than you would think with huge tables. Our waitress was super nice and attentive. Made sure we were aware of all our options and was nice enough to bring us extra bread because I mentioned I was a carb junkie. The food itself was delicious, and both of our meals came with a starter salad, which had some creamy ranch. I got the ribeye, medium with French fries. Of course, there was nothing left on my plate. Perfectly juicy and tasty. Husband had the prime rib, which I normally have 1 bite of, but his was so yummy, I had 2 big bites. Overall, I have plans to come back. read more

Tyler made him a special seafood dish which was off the charts and I had 8 oz steak with 3 jumbo shrimp which was also very delicious. I also want to compliment Patricia who was our server. She has a very nice personality and knows the menu very well. She was busy with other tables but never made us feel rushed when we needed something. I will request her service the next time we go. I've been to this establishment a number of times and can honestly say that the food, service, ambiance, and staff are top-notch. I took the time to read some of the reviews before leaving my own and can say from multiple experiences that the negative ones are pretty bogus and misleading. I have seen in person times when anyone has had an issue, the staff and owner has bent over backwards to make it right. Because hey, mistakes happen. Unfortunately when it comes to leaving reviews, most people never think to leave one until they have something they feel sour about yet fail to mention how said business has gone out of their way to correct it. I've experienced this myself in my own industry. Alas, many people out there are unfortunately miserable and have an inflated sense of entitlement. Lastly, these folks know what they are doing and the menu is fantastic. This fine steakhouse has been in business for over half a century, in my book any restaurant that lasts that long is obviously doing everything right in the best ways as operating a restaurant is no easy task. This literally is the best restaurant in Arizona. We had the Cocktail Shrimp, house salads with Blue Cheese and Blue Cheese Crumbles, then shared the Ribeye Steak with Mushrooms and Bread and Butter on the side. Every good item is 100%perfect along with the fantastic service!! We come to this restaurant EVERY TIME we come to Payson. Try this place, you will be so happy you did.
