Went here for a manicure last week. My nail technician was nice, but she unfortunately cut me and didn't put liquid styptic (the antiseptic/sanitizer that stops the bleeding) on it like most nail salons do. I now have a very painful, red, swollen finger which makes me question the cleanliness of this place given it's most likely infected. It's been exactly a week since my manicure and my finger still hurts (photos attached). Totally loved. Was recommended by a girlfriend who lives in the city & works in mid-town east. Walked into the salon w/no appointment & they were able to accommodate me right away with no wait. I went in for a simple manicure on a Friday afternoon/early evening. It was somewhat busy but a few technicians were available. I have no idea what her name was but she did a pretty awesome chocolate brown manicure. She picked my cuticles nicely & gave me a nice round shape. I needed a quick cleanup and luckily, I discovered this place last week, which does do men's haircuts. I came in for a haircut without an appo. Service was absolutely phenomenal. At first I was a bit squeamish about coming in here knowing nothing about the place but I ended up getting a really good haircut; I was sort of shocked at how good it was. It felt so relaxing and stress-free the entire time because the hairdresser totally knew what she was doing. And it totally blew away my expectations for a hair salon that I knew nothing about. Everyone at my workplace was impressed by my haircut and asking where I got it. I'm super lucky to have found this place. Everyone here is so kind and respectful. I am a regular customer in UES nail spa place by my house but this time I was staying late in the office and before going away on a vacation, I had to find a place somewhere near by. Based on the great yelp reviews I decided to give a try. And to be honest, I was amazed by this place, it is not a typical nail salon, it's a full service spa including hair stylist, facial, wax etc. Shellack manicure cost me $40, but the service was worth it. The place is run by Korean / Russian partners who actually work there themselves and keep the place very clean plus the personal is super friendly and non rushy/pushy!! Cleanliness of this nail salon is not upto standards. Tools are reused between clients without even proper washing, never mind sterilization. The worst part of my experience however, was as I was drying when a woman working there came by and handed me a business card for the hair stylist in the front end of the salon and I told her I just got a haircut yesterday but thanks anyways (see my 5-star review of antonio prieto salon, I was pleased). I love love love coming to diamond spa!! I have searched and searched to find someone to do acrylic nails--pink and white -- which has been impossible to find!! I'm so happy. Rosa is the best person to do this and nobody in the city compares to her. Most places use gel for pink and white. While those are nice, they don't last !! I'm very active and the acrylic pink and whites are amazing AND have a gel top coat!! She Is perfectly crafted in her nail technique and is precise with each nail !! What differentiates Diamond spa is how GENTLE they are with your feet. My pedicure ($21 for the whirlpool spa) was with a great lady who didn't tickle me senseless with the pumice stone or prick me with that snipping tool. Generally that happens during pedicures as it's the nature of the beast but this was smooth sailing. I went after work on a Friday and it was crowded but not to capacity -- all good signs. I ADORE the staff. They have really cute banter with each other and customers; it's a light hearted atmosphere. I would not recommend this salon. I went in for a mani & pedi. It was very rushed and not relaxing. My feet still had dry skin and the manicurist smudged my nail polish and didn't properly fix it (i.e repaint and pit new top coat). The experience was not relaxing either - the manicurist was talking to another worker across the room most of the time, she stopped to answer her cell phone, there were two different radio stations playing, and at the end no one helped take the paper from toes, wrap the polish etc. read more

Love this nail salon not only because they re located right in my building but because they are always available to take me whether it's 730 pm after work or early in the morning. They make it work! My friend and I were a random walk in on a Saturday looking for mani/pedis. Took us immediately and were fast but very efficient! I normally am not a fan of the massage chairs because I just don't think they are effective but man did it hit all those knots perfectly...I also had a super messed up nail because I accidentally cut through it chopping basil. They were great about fixing it up so not only does it not hurt anymore but looks like a real nail again! I'm not a local but I'd definitely be back if I'm in the area. I would not recommend getting gel or anything fancy since the prices increase exponentially. The only other thing I would note is that the basic pedi does not come with the scrubby salts, only a lotion massage and they don't offer you wine or anything (but also wasn't expecting it at that price point, would have only been a bonus). read more

I am a particular person, and I have been getting my nails done for YEARS. If you are interested in why I am giving the rating that I am, and if you are particular as well, please heed my warning that any 3-5 star review of this place was written by someone who probably isn't and who might have actually been getting their very first manicure. I should start by saying that there are a certain number of expectations that you just can't help having when you go to get a manicure - especially on your lunch break in Midtown, Manhattan. First, I expect the manicurist to know how to file the tops of the nail beds so that cuticles or skin aren't sanded off at the same time. I would also expect, as I have seen many times over especially in NYC, that the manicurist has been experienced enough to be able to work swiftly and quickly while still doing an excellent - at the very least, acceptable - job. I don't think I have unreasonable or unrealistic expectations. Maybe for Bradenton, Florida (sorry, even there I've had better), but certainly not for Midtown. In certain, shoddy places, I have actually had to pull the tools out of their hands and fix nails myself, because the person either doesn't understand what I'm saying, or they just straight up don't have the skills to proceed. I had to do this here. I called at 11am to schedule a 12:30 appointment for a shellac manicure. Even though Lee, the woman who answered the phone, was rushing me along, I explained to her that I had a limited amount of time and needed to make sure that I could be seen at 12:30 or I would look elsewhere. (NBD, right?) "Yes, yes, 12:30 ok see you bye". I also had a broken natural nail that I explained needed a slight extension to even out the length. I asked if there would be a charge for repair, if so how much, & what the method of repair would be. I was certain not to walk into this place blindly and without the manicurist being prepared as to what I would need -- especially in a time-crunch. She told me there would be no charge for the fix, but still rushed me off the phone. I was not confident that I would be entirely satisfied because of this call, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and kept my appointment anyway. (Which, by the way, am I crazy for thinking that when I put forth the effort to make an appointment, I should actually be seen at my appointment time? Unless I am over 5 minutes late, I believe this is how appointments work.) I arrived two minutes early, and anyone who lives/works in NYC knows that this is a crucial amount of time, especially on a lunch break. (I've stressed this enough, right? You can see where this is going, can't you?) The salon was clean and as roomy as it possibly can be. But with as many stations as they have inside, when all chairs are occupied there is little to no room to move through the space. I waited 7 minutes for my "appointment" time to begin, even though Lee interacted with me when I came in and I told her that I had called earlier. When the time finally came to start, she was extremely slow, confused, and was unclear as to what I wanted. I had to pick up files and clippers and bottles of polish and make gestures with them to communicate with her. I felt like a mime. IT WAS RIDICULOUS! I should have left right then and there, but I had already waited almost a week to get my manicure and my nails were breaking by the minute. I had to get them done while I had the time -- I wouldn't have been able to find a new salon at this point even though I desperately wanted to. Lee had someone else file my left hand while she filed my right ("go quick"...?!). The girl filing my left hand sanded the skin off of three of my fingers/cuticles leaving them raw (see photos I posted of the results) while Lee filed slowly & lightly as if she were working on a newborn baby. Bottom line: I was left with uneven and bumpy gel on some fingers, edges/corners of more than 3 nails that were not painted, and I was 10 minutes late to a meeting that I would have been early to, had I seen any other experienced professional. Most of the work on the "repair" I had actually done myself (since she didn't seem to understand "if you have to use acrylic, please make sure it's very thin" or "do you have a stronger file? this file is not working" and "acrylic is still very thick, please file top"). If I go to a facility that offers a service, I must be crazy for expecting said service to be presentable after the job is "done". I also must be nuts for thinking that if I call ahead to explain my situation, that the owner of the salon will be prepared when I arrive and know what to expect/how to serve a customer's needs. In short: this is only "a hidden gem" if you're completely oblivious to how nails should be done properly, or if you're on a lackadaisical vacation and don't actually live here. More like a hidden death wish. Would absolutely NOT recommend this place to ANYONE, and FOR CERTAIN will not be back! read more

When I questioned why she charged me more than what she said earlier she tried to lie and say dip powder is more. Even though she had told the woman next to me that for her full set with dip color it would only be $60. So she refused to honor the price she advertised to me when making an appt. When I'm traveling it's hard to find reliable nail people you can trust. I have been to several places in NY and have never been very happy before I came to diamond spa. I love the way they treat you, like your family. They take there time and make sure they focus on exactly the style you are looking for. I like to get a full set of acrylic tips with gel polish. It's almost impossible to find someone who offers that service. So when I found someone who did It I was so happy, and I didn't have any breakage, lifting or chipping for a whole month. The pedicures are great as well they have different types of pedicures available as well. I also enjoyed there spa services. To top it off I am very busy, so this place is attached to my favorite hair stylist, so while I'm getting styled I can squeeze in a manicure at the same. For me that is awesome it saves me so much time and makes my day so much more effective. read more

I gave three stars because my gel manicure did look nice and has lasted me a week so far without chipping or peeling so I'm guessing that it will make the full two expected weeks at this point. The salon wasn't especially nice on the inside and the instruments that they used weren't especially clean considering they weren't peel-packed, so I know they weren't sterilized. None of that would have been a deal breaker for me, aside from the fact that the manicure ended up costing me about $48? I had read the reviews and thought my experience at Diamond Spa was going to be great. It was anything but great. Not once but twice, the woman who was doing my manicure cut my cuticles -- one on the right pinky finger and the other on the left ring finger. Both cuticles bled, with the cut on the right hand bleeding a lot. I might have been able to forgive one cut, but two? I've been getting manicures for years, and this has never happened. To add insult to injury, I was still charged the full amount for the manicure -- no discount, no comp, no apology. I will never, ever go to this place again. read more

Overpriced. Sloppy. There are far better options in the vicinity (like the mani place above BRICK). My nails are currently blotchy and there are air bubbles all over the polish. They also charged $10 to take off your gels. Had to ask my manicurist to redo certain nails twice and it only got worse. I eventually just gave up cause I wanted to get out of there and she was getting frustrated with me anyway. She blatantly refused to paint closer to the cuticles, saying that it's "bad for me". This place is so convenient that it is hard not go when I need a service and a timeout from the office! They are a bit pricier than near my home in Westchester, but they do offer pretty much everything. I find that the level of service and quality definitely depends on who you get when you go.
