I had 4 short days in NYC and wanted to get my split ends trimmed. I made an appt with Nica & Sam Salon after seeing the glowing reviews. They took me in the same day with an older Russian lady named Nicole. Nicole was stoic, inexpressive, and dismissive, even when I tried to make small talk (but that's ok I thought--not related to quality or haircuts). I requested for toning + cut. Nicole cut my hair rather quickly and then proceeded to do a blowout (+heated curling iron) without asking me. By the time I noticed, I asked her to stop since I didn't request that, and she said that she already did half of my hair so just let her finish. It looked good but I just didn't ask for that... and usually after getting a haircut I'm used to seeing the hair straight to see how it was cut. So she ended up charging me for the blowout that I didn't ask for-- which I ended up being OK with since it looked good, but in retrospect that was sus. But after washing my hair and seeing the cuts without the curls, I immediately regretted visiting her. I immediately visited my hair stylist after returning to California to fix the mess she made. As you can see in the photos, the hair layers are not symmetrical at all and they are so choppy and random. There are gaps in the the cuts -- it's just very poorly done. I can't speak for other stylists since I only had experience with Nicole. But stay away from her for haircuts.

My friend referred me to Noemi, and I knew I was in good hands after our free consultation. Noemi was super patient in explaining color theory to us, to achieve the exact color my mom wanted. She was also super thorough in explaining the process/benefits of the keratin treatment. Noemi was so sweet and warm during the whole experience. I really appreciated how she took her time, paid attention to the smallest details and clearly took pride in her work. As soon as my mom left the chair, she said she felt like a million bucks. I have never seen her smile so hard! The transformation was amazing. Her hair went from grey, dull, and frizzy, to vibrant, shining and stylish. My dad is constantly complimenting my mom now, and her confidence is through the roof. My sister and I were so impressed we ending up getting our hair done the same day. They took their time examining how my hair grows, and ended up giving me the best fade I've ever had. It also grew in so naturally, so I didn't feel like I needed another haircut after two weeks. My sister got her hair trimmed and curled, and she said her coworkers were all shocked by how good it looked. She was impressed on how the curls lasted well over a week. My family could not be happier, and Noemi now has 3 more lifetime clients. It was worth every penny! The salon itself is gorgeous with beautiful artwork throughout, a modern reception area, and elegant wallpaper. They were so generous in offering delicious coffee with frothed milk, or even a glass of prosecco for free. They massage you for a solid amount of time when you get your hair washed.

The salon interior is lovely and an experience in of itself: a pristine white loft on the fourth floor. It's well-designed, minimalist and sun kissed, making for a bright and lovely experience. The salon staff are efficient and so pleasant making the overall experience a boost to your day. I had a single process (with Tam) and cut (with Chen). Both were done professionally. Tam is such a pleasant and kind coiffure. Chen does an amazing blow dry and is a very talented hairdresser. He does good haircuts too. I cannot recommend both of them enough after the pleasant experience I had, right down to the thoughtfully prepared cappuccino and biscotti for their clients. The one thing that places this salon in my favourites list is the fact that they use Kerastase products which are really so agreeable with my hair type and have been a product that I have used since my 20's at hairdressers around the world. The Kerstase shampoos and conditioners brought back such nice and happy memories ... The prices range from USD 165-200 dollars for a single process. About USD 155- 258 dollars for a cut and USD 67-150 dollars for a blow dry. The only thing I would change or ask more of at this salon would be music, music, MUSIC! It's always great to have some tunes playing in the background as you get pretty or prettier, as the case maybe. Enjoy your time at Salon SCK. It's a dream to have your hair in their good hands.
