Holy moly, this is some of the best Thai we have had outside Thailand. We were driving through on our way to the grand canyon and saw the good reviews, but were still skeptical. While Diamond Thai is a little off the highway and a small hole in the wall, the food was delicious. We had Panang curry, pad Thai, fried rice and another rice noodle dish. All of the flavors and seasonings were spot on and very authentic. Things that were supposed to be spicy had just the right amount of heat. We live in a midwestern "foodie city" 10 times larger than Sioux City and this Thai is better than almost every Thai restaurant we have there. Thai food has always been my first choice when eating out and was happy to try this place. We first tried it a few months back and was disappointed but I always give a place a second taste. Unfortunately it was still unbelievably bland and ill prepared. It had So little flavor and spices in the dishes and the vegetables are barely cut up and were under cooked. I was going to throw it but I took it home and basically spiced it up and cut the veg and ended up re-cooking the whole dish. The spicy basil rice would imply they added spices but it had very little flavor other than soy sauce. The best I can say about the yellow curry is it was yellow colored. However, the portion sizes are good for the money and the atmosphere is cozy enough. Food comes fairly quickly and the thai iced tea is excellent. This is a great place to get away from the chain restaurants in Sioux city. The prid king and pumpkin curry are delightful. Don't forget an order of golden bags and a Thai iced coffee. The golden bags a the best. Every person we have sent there has loved it. They now have a card machine. read more

I'm going to premise this review by saying I have never written a negative review before. Sadly, I felt compelled to after relying upon the previous Yelp reviews out there when I selected this restaurant. I honestly had to double check to see if I had gone to the same place, because my experience was so different that what I was anticipating from the reviews. The soup was mediocre (at best), but nothing like I've had in other Thai restaurants. The real let down was the curry, which was sad, bland and uninspired. (Honesty my failed attempts at home were more appetizing... And I wouldn't go back to my house either). However, the single largest reason that I felt compelled to write the review was the lack of cleanliness that I think would jar even the most adventurous. It started with the black mystery flecks on the water glasses (and every thing else that came after) and culminated with the condiment tray that had been shuffled from table to table for (I'm guessing) months without being cleaned or wiped off. I hope that my review brings some clarity to the unexpecting Yelper out there. I know this was pretty negative, but I've been a Thai food lover for many years and have never been so disappointed. I feel bad writing this review but I couldn't help it. We were craving Thai food while in the area, we're driving back home to Alaska. We found this restaurant and had high hopes because of the extensive amount of positive reviews. The service was good, the server was very welcoming and friendly. The prices are great and there's a large selection. The food however was awful. The Thai tea just tasted like water with creamer, and the entire bottom of my glass was filled with black chunks of tea leaves that must have got into the tea while it was brewing. I couldn't even drink it. The fried spring rolls had almost no filling inside, and they tasted doughy. We were given maybe a teaspoon of dipping sauce for the spring rolls. My yellow curry had two pieces of chicken in it, I wish that I was exaggerating. The taste of the curry was just bland and not appetizing what so ever. Lastly, my "sticky rice" was drier than a popcorn fart and was crusty like it had been sitting for several hours. I tried very hard to enjoy this place but at the end I was just not impressed or even satisfied. I have never had bad Thai food in Alaska, so my expectations were pretty high. Ate here a month ago as well while on vacation. Sioux City needs to step up their food flavor palate. Ordered 2 items. My friend had the Pad Thai, I had their so called "pad kee mao" (drunken noodles). Everything was just bland bland bland! Flavors were way off from when I had it at many other places. I had requested mine to be medium spicy. Came out non spicy at all. Had to ask for pepper to mix it in myself. The portions were good, but the flavor and quality was NOT there. This is not a great or correct representation of authentic Thai food! Also had their Thai Tea. Not sure where they learned to make Thai Tea. But all I could taste was a bunch of cream they had poured in. No Thai Tea taste at all. Service was very friendly, although very SLOW! Price was $28 for 2 plate of food plus 2 Thai Teas. Mmm, the fresh rolls with beef. The golden bags (#3) are also great if you've got 3 or 4 people with you. The peanut dipping sauce was delicious. I had the Number 55 (Pad Thai Chicken) and it was amazing. I didn't really understand the waitress but she was nice as could be. We just sort of hoped and prayed we'd get good food. Just got off a plane from San Francisco, drove up from Omaha, and found this gem. Only person here on a Sunday night but I was welcomed, seated, and served a delicious Pad Thai. The owners are extremely friendly - as friendly as anywhere I've seen. That was a big plus. We stopped for lunch on the way from Sioux Falls to Omaha. I ordered the spicy noodles, expecting a khee mao / drunken noodle. It was a slightly different dish - egg noodles instead of rice noodles, a lot of cabbage. It was pretty good, not the best, far from the worst. The only thing better than the food is the owner - he's so nice! I lived in Sioux City a few years ago and this was one of my favorite places to have lunch. The chicken pad thai is delicious... I had my 1st experience with Diamond Thai and Thai food in general a couple of days ago. A coworker and I went there for lunch on a Tuesday shortly after noon. It was really good overall. My Beef Yellow Curry with a chosen level of medium spiciness was delicious. The service was very quick and friendly. The prices seemed perfectly reasonable. The restaurant was clean. If I have one complaint it is that they don't serve alcohol, so I would probably not choose Diamond Thai for a dinner out. read more

I am a loyal fan of this local favorite! The food is excellent and 100 percent authentic Thai food. The owner is a sweetheart. I haven't had anything here I did not like. I always get coconut water and mango juice, sticky rice, soup, an entree or two, and the spring rolls (fried and not fried, both) when I go. It is worth the 80 mile drive to get there. I have travelled more than once to eat here since my city lacks a local Thai restaurant. Do not let the old building scare you off. As I walked in, the young man inside didn't greet me. I ordered yellow curry and tom yum soup. I'm from California and I know Thai food very very well. This yellow curry tasted nothing like what it normally does. I don't believe the chef is Thai. The onions were not fresh and there was no salt in the curry. The soup was good. Worse than the food, the waiter was grouchy the whole time, did not check on me even once, and was busy watching some Asian tv program on his tablet the whole time. Very rude. I first came upon this place just after it opened. We showed up early and had the place to ourselves. The staff was great and was very informative on what they had to offer. I went with the Pad Thai, and was impressed. Even if you're not an "adventurous" eater, or if you don't like spicy food, there is something for you. The outside of this place looks bleak, but as soon as you're inside it's clean and comfortable. The waitress was super friendly and the food came out very fast. I got a veggie pad see ew with extra veggies instead of tofu and I said a 2 for spicy according to their menu. I should have said 3 or even 4 because, to me, there was no spiciness at all, but you never know your first time at Thai restaurants so I erred on the side of caution. A wonderful hole-in-the-wall family restaurant -- don't let the exterior turn you away. Delicious cuisine, the pad eggplant was melt-in-your-mouth and rich, the pad thai was downed in minutes by my teen. The phad see ew had a good flavor but needed some heat. We topped things off with some super sweet iced coffees, which the teens loved. Lots of locals enjoying late Sunday lunches with their kids when we visited. Very happy to recommend. read more

I live in Omaha and frequent Sioux City (2 - 5 times a week) there are a number of places we would like to stop and try. But we continue to stop at Diamond Thai. My partner and I have been going there for 5 years. I have ordered everything on the menu and aside from personal preference of not liking boiled celery I love all the dishes. The staff is more than friendly. They know us on a first name basis. They always give us our water and even though for 5 years we have said "just surprise me" they still ask if there is anything in particular we would like.
