First and foremost, when I first walked in looking for an engagement ring the staff instantly made me feel comfortable and important. I showed Ed (one of employees) a picture of what I liked, told him my price range and never once did he question or try and coax me into something "more expensive". Very friendly, trustworthy staff and ownership. If you're shopping for a loose stone to have set, make sure you have a good idea of where you want to be as far as your C's and budget. Maybe even do some shopping at other locations so you can see the differences in person, as they didn't have much on-hand to look at. I respect that, and understand that not carrying the overhead helps the customer get a better price. We had a lengthy back-and-forth with a couple tense moments because we kept changing our minds on what we wanted. There were also a few times that things got confusing in regards to which stones/diamond houses were all cash prices, and which could/couldn't be brought in for viewing with a deposit before purchase. However, once I put down the deposit to source the stones, everything went smoothly. The stones came in, I picked one, picked a setting, had it set and it was ready within a few days. They did mis-size the ring initially and forgot to tell me it was in the store when I went to pay for it... but they were apologetic and were able to get it resized and back in the store the next day. The stone was placed in the setting for free and a beautiful custom wooden box with built-in light was a great addition. I felt the pricing was very good. Came in a few hundred under BlueNile, we were able to view the diamonds before purchasing and had the very knowledgable (and patient) Ed Hattery answering all of our questions and helping us through the process. They rebuilt a family heirloom that had been ran over in a parking lot by countless vehicles until it was flattened the the center stone was crushed. They were able to reshape and rebuild the ring to perfect shape and detail. Pat and Mark really took the time to educate him on diamonds and helped him create my one of a kind ring. After much research and shopping around the Diamond Vault made it happen. I was looking to upgrade my wife's diamond ring from a .50 carat to a .75 or so. I had been to several loose diamond dealers in San Francisco but the price was through the roof unless you wanted a inferior diamond whice they were happy to sell you telling you it was still good. I then was at a major retailer (zales ) who said they would upgrade for me and give me full credit for my original purchase, but the new .75 was over $6,000. Yea right! So then to pawn shops and little neighborhood shops but finally ended up at the Diamond Vault where Mark worked with me to get a great .76 GIA certified VS2 G diamond which I traded one stone, another ring and a watch plus a little cash for. I ended up with a perfect stone mounted and polished in a really cool gift box that lights up when you open it to show off the diamond. Also in the package was the certificate and a very good appraisal letter. Mark went over every detail with me, was honest and even worked with me on negotiating a price that I could afford, which was way below the asking price. Bottom line, this is the best place to get a loose diamond. If you have to take a trip from the Bay Area, do it. read more

The worst customer service and ethics. Stay away and don't buy from the Diamond Vault. Don't get me wrong, they (Pat) bent over backwards to sale me. I proposed, she said "yes", but it was the same style setting as her ex's ring. We went back into the Diamond Vault, she picked out a different setting. I then went back the fallowing day to make the upgrade(s) and purchase. That is when the Diamond Vault nightmare started. They wanted to discount the ring I bought from them less than two weeks earlier. The ring had never been worn, not even put on her finger for a moment. They wanted to charge me full price on the upgraded diamond 1.25ct and ring. I was so appalled that I walked out. I then found another retailer (out of state) that sold Bashoura Moderno rings. Two days later I get a call from Jonny at Bashoura saying the sale is blocked because of retailer territory rights. That is the straw that has me writing about them. I have an engagement ring that I can't return for an honest upgrade.
