This review is only for nail service. I hate to say it but I wouldn't recommend. The workers are too interested in their conversation to focus on the quality of service. My lady answered s couple of phone calls, grabbing stuff from her purse so others could go shop for her and barely looked up at me until the end. I had a mani/pedi. The water in foot bath was cold and unappealing. They washed my feet with shampoo and as I was looking at the little plastic color wheel, another worker grabbed it off my lap and gave it to her client. The polish was junk and seemed old. It was going on pretty thick and clumpy, so she added something to it, shook it up, and kept going. It's been over 2 hours and the polish still isn't dry. My manicure it ruined. Pedicure looks OK. She did good with cuticle clipping and filing, but that was about it. You have to get nails done while sitting in pedicure chair, which involves stretching one arm to the other side where the lady was sitting. Nail dust just falls all over you while she's filing them. It was an uncomfortable appt. At one point, she was soaking my hand in a bowl of water that she sat on TOP of the chair remote. This inevitably fell on top of me. Unfortunately, even the cheap prices won't bring me back since it was a waste of my time and money. read more

My mom and I came here to get our lashes done after having a good experience last week with their massage. A girl named lily came to do my lashes. She began getting prepared and placed scotch tape on the side of the table. What for you ask??? Well after laying down, she started putting the tape under my eyelids and above my brows! Never had this happened to me but I just trusted the process and kept cool. The whole process was achy and uncomfortable, and she kept squeezing an empty tube to dry the lashes (weird but I waited till she finished) she didn't even bother giving me a mirror and once I looked, my lashes were literally on my eyelids and crooked! They weren't even connected to the rest of my lashes, but above the lashes! Before I could even tell them what was wrong with my lashes, they began interrupting me and saying they'll redo them and it took some arguing to get a refund. I visited Dianes based on all the yelp reviews. I got a regular manicure and a spa pedicure done. Although, I am quite happy with my pedicure, I am not even close to happy with my manicure. After almost an hour of getting my manicure done, the nail paint just came off even after drying completely. And yes, I was extremely cautious!! My only complain is the nailpaint, besides that the service was great. Also, communication is an issue but I guess its not much of a problem. I've always wanted to try eyelash extensions but didn't want to pay an arm and a leg. My nail tech told me to try Diane's because the price is reasonable. It doesn't look like a "spa" but it does get the job done. My lashes took an hour and my daughters took an hour and half. Funny because mine lasted way longer too. Lisa did my lashes and it's been 4 weeks and I still have a lot still in place. It's $45 for the initial application and $35 for refills. I have them 4 out of 5 stars because I also did a polish change and it was terrible. I will be returning for my eyelash fills just not anything else. read more

My friend recommended this place after she got her eyelash done twice. It's cheaper than going to other places. $45 not including tax and tips. I treated myself to this just for my graduation. Never done it before and I was a bit nervous. A location in chinatown makes me feel skeptical sometimes because I was raised in the area and I know the area too well. Just for graduation, I took the risk. I wasn't sure how busy this place was and I wanted to get my lashes done before my graduation day. So I called like 2 weeks beforehand to make an appointment. The lady through the phone has very limited English and sounded really rude told me I should call back the day before my prefer appointment. So okay. The day before my preferred date, I called and the same lady picked up. Of course, I couldn't understand what she was saying and she still sounded rude. So I told her to schedule and appointment. Guess what she says...call back tomorrow morning to make the appointment. WTH! Seriously..this got me pissed off already. My friend kind of pushed me to try it. So I made the appointment the day of my preferred date. So I gave her a time I wanted and the person I was recommended to ask for. So she tells me that she has an appointment at that time and tells me to come an hour later. In my head I was like, well I asked to schedule an appointment for a reason ya know. Whatever, I wasn't expecting good services from them after the phone talks. So I walked in and the people stared at me. This guy sitting on the massage chair asked me "how can I help you?". Well, what a greeting. Seems unorganized...you would expect a front desk or something near the entrance not at the back of the shop. So I waited and they still made me wait 15 minutes more. Finally, it was my turn, walked into the back rooms. So was about to lay down on the chair thingy and realize how much eyelash strands are on the sheet. Is that normal? Argh...it was my first time so I don't know. So regret it though. Laying there for an hour and a half, my body was itchy. I don't think they change the sheets throughout the day. Ewww! My friend went in the morning and never noticed that. So if you go later during the day you're laying on a bunch of people's germs. Unacceptable! So about the lashes. It was definitely cute because I got a lot of compliments. Though I noticed that it's uneven. My left eyelashes are less than my right side. Of course a month later I noticed that my left eyelash falls out faster than my right side. And I do like that it lasts more than they say it would. 3 weeks they said but it's been a month for me. It really depends on how you take care of it. The person who helped was gentle. So I like that. Hate to feel pain my first time. I was the last customer to leave. While paying with my credit card, I wanted to put tip on it. So usually there would be a line where you can write the tip, but the old lady crossed it off. So I asked her I wanted to give tip. She says, you should have told me earlier. What the....some services you got there. I know you closing but why didn't you tell me that. Got an acrylic full set and gelish polish with Rose. She made my nails exactly how I wanted it from the shape to the color (though I am very simple when it comes to choosing colors). I called just after 8 a.m. to see if they could fit me in. At first, the woman answering the phone didn't understand what I was saying, so that was a struggle. She passed me off to Rose and I was able to communicate a bit better (though there was still a language barrier). After all that, they were able to take me at 8:30 a.m. I parked at the Maunakea Municipal parking garage for $0.75/half hour for the first 2 hours. I wouldn't say I go to this spa regularly but I've definitely been here more than 10 times within the past 3 years. One of the great things about this place is that they accept walk ins and with my schedule, I'm not always able to book appointments in advance. Plus I'm sure everyone has one of those days where it hits you that your body and mind are drained and you need some relaxation NOW. One of the reasons they're able to accommodate walk-ins (at least for facials which is what I mostly have done here), is that they have a large staff and that being as it is, the service is not very consistent. The estheticians all do things their own way and you may end up preferring one over the other. Anyhow, I walked in for a facial today and because I didn't make an appointment, I said anyone would do. Beggars can't be choosers, right? Be that as it is though, I had about the most horrible facial I've ever had anywhere. The extractions are not normally comfortable but this time it was especially painful. Also, the esthetician would put tiny amounts of product on my face and then add water on my face to dilute the products so that she'll have enough to do my whole face. There was no face massage at all after those painful extractions. Looking forward to that face massage is usually what gets me through the pain! But no, she went straight to the mask which she probably diluted with water as well because it was dripping ALL down my jaw and neck. Then while the mask was setting, she proceeded to give me my scalp massage and arm massage. The scalp massage was okay even though she does all of her movements way too quick like she's on too much caffeine. The arm massage was awful. It was basically her pinching my flesh. Honestly, I felt like I was getting tortured. At the end, she put on ONE moisturizer (also diluted with water). No toner, no hydration serum, no eye cream. Then she told me to turn around so she can do the complimentary back massage they usually give you at the end. Again, I got beat up and pinched. The icing on the cake is when I got to the cash register to pay, the old lady that usually collects your money snapped at me when I tried to have her break my $20. She waved her hand in my face and told me to wait a minute. I mean, I understand that you're in the process of running my credit card. But you could have taken my bill nicely, placed it aside and said "one moment please" and just break it later when you're done. After all, I'm trying to tip your staff! I super wanted to walk out right then but I hadn't signed my credit card receipt yet. I usually tip pretty good at this place because their fees are already so low but I tipped the lowest I ever have here to match the worst service I've ever had here. It's sad how people write terrible reviews on small family owned businesses, just because they don't speak English well and it's just a matter of miscommunication Honestly as a broke grad student, I love this salon because they're really affordable and you still get quality services as long as you communicate with them (showing pictures is best!), they take walk-ins, and they're open super early and late to accommodate to your schedule so it's great if you have a super busy schedule and you need something done last minute but can't get your usual stylist (which is how I ended up finding this place). Ive had my hair colored, cut, and styled here by Diane who's super sweet and knowledgeable (she's been in the business a long time and really knows hair well) and I used to go to higher end salons where I've paid double or more, but I would still go to her. I've also had my nails (full set) done here by another technician and it was super fast, lasted forever (even the rhinestones did!) till I took them off, and I love the free handed design she did on me (wish I took pics!!). The lady who did my lashes was so gross I felt her breath and she had a stuffy nose and coughing disgusting. This place absolutely destroyed my hair. They turned it patchy orange, and then, when the women started blowdrying it she said "Oh, is this not what you wanted?" I showed her the photo of blonde highlights that I showed her when I began the appointment, and then two other hairstylist took over and attempted to save my hair. By the end my hair is a patchy green and purple. Then they had the audacity to charge me $180 because I technically had "two" hair coloring appointments -- even though the second was to try to undo the TERRIBLE job the first person had done. I went in for highlights, and now I have disgusting hair that I don't know how to fix. They were absolutely terrible and no one should ever go there. Okay so normally I drop in about every 2 weeks during the weekend to get in a spa pedicure. This Sunday by far was the WORST pedicure I have EVER experienced. I was shocked really, because normally we have exceptional service every time we've been there. (We've been there 5 times so far.) Sunday was an exception. Normally, I walk away feeling amazing, but instead I wanted to kick the pedicurist in the face with my half assed pedicured feet. First, we weren't necessarily greeted. We were told, "You come now." However, all the seats were taken and we wanted to give the customers who were already in there some time to gather their belongings instead of having to rush. We told her, "We'll wait." She insisted and kept being pushy. She was VERY rude to the point my boyfriend snapped at her. (Mind you, my boyfriend never snaps at the girls here, because they've always been very nice.) Finally, we get into our seats and our pedicures begin. Unfortunately for me, i ended up with the "rude one." To begin with, she goes to remove my nail polish and does a half assed job. The color I had prior was black and she didn't even remove it completely. I had to comment on that where she rolled her eyes. Next, she asked if I wanted to trim my toenails and I told her yes. She pulls out a pair of toenail clippers that were dull and clips and tugs. So I told her, "Please use a sharp one." She ignored me. By now, I'm getting pissed. I tell myself to just lean back, put on the massage chair and close my eyes... make the best of it, right? No. I wake up to this girl using a cheese grater.... YES... it was a CHEESE GRATER. (Take a look at my photos) I was shocked. Mind you, my feet are smooth as hell... needless to say, this messed up my foot. I told her not to use it and then she continued on my other foot. I explained to her once again not to. She tells me to place my feet in the water and they begin to burn. I loss it. I told her to get her manager. (Keep in mind, this is the first time I have ever seen this girl or "tool" used in this shop. She was the only one to use a cheese grater.) The manager tells me that they ordered a bunch of these files from "the mainland." So I retort with, "It's a damn cheese grater! I cook, I know what a damn cheese grater looks like! I'm not stupid!" The manager then tells me that I must have sensitive feet. She tries to defend her worker and I'm sorry, but when you're in the wrong, take two steps back... apologize and fix the situation. Do not... I repeat... do not try to argue with a pissed off b*tch. You will lose. Finally, when it came to the actual paint job, this girl was HORRENDOUS. It was streaky and I had paint all over my toes. She said, 'ok done.' I then told her she needed to remove the paint on my skin. Why in the hell should I have to supervise my own pedicure? Seriously? As for a tip... Here's your tip, mary... get your crap together. All in all, the experience was CRAP. It's unfortunate that the owner hired someone like this girl, because I can assure you, there will be MORE pissed off people. The workers they have normally are fantastic. However, this female is the most half assed pedicurist in the history of mani and pedis. Also, I didn't care for the nail techs sanitation practices that day. OVERALL: There is a heavy language barrier. However, the workers were friendly. When I arrived, they all made eye contact with me, smiled and gave a warm greeting. They have very strong suggestive sale techniques. I live really close to Diane's Day Spa, so this is my "go to" spot for massages, pedicures, and manicures. Pros: Great massages! I love Aunty Annie, very strong for her small stature. The room is clean and the atmosphere is relaxing. They have a great deal going on right now; $40 for an hour massage! You can't beat that! They do nails perfectly! They seem to always be able to squeeze me in when I go there on a whim. Cons: there is sometimes a language barrier, but we work around it. I had a facial there, and it wasn't that great. The lady who gave me my facial didn't seem like she knew what she was doing. She kept on rubbing my face and putting on more and more lotion. It got in my nose, my mouth, all the while the steam was making my face sweat. It felt like chinese water torture... and I was getting anxious. My face was going numb due to the excessive rubbing. When the "facial" was done, I had lotion all in my hair, my eyes, my nose, and my mouth. The facial is the only thing about this place that wasn't great. Diane's Day Spa is a full service salon which is a cheaper alternative to the high end salons in Waikiki and Ala Moana. The massage area offers private rooms for an array of massage treatments, the quality of which depends largely upon which therapists are available on any given day. After 5+ visits to Diane's Day Spa, I would consider it a better alternative to the Hawaii Massage Academy; you pay a bit more for a much more experienced therapist and overall better treatment. Scheduling an appointment is tricky, especially if an English-speaking employee is not available. Expect to initially speak to the spa owner who has a limited understanding of English and will not be able to discern what style of massage you desire. She does understand enough to schedule the time and duration of your massage. On the best occasions, I received shiatsu massages best suited for my active work out routine. I found the treatment to be helpful to recovery, and got the desired result. However, this spa does not seem to offer theraputic massages although the website lists Swedish, among other styles on its site. I was informed by one of the therapists that this is not a place for 'sissy massages' although I do not particularly think indulgence and relaxation is an activity only reserved for the effeminate. My last and final visit to the spa was for a Swedish massage which I arranged over the phone in advance. Upon receiving the treatment, it was apparent this massage therapist was not versed in Swedish, and it was not clear whether they were a properly licensed massage therapist. The language barrier was a major concern because I was not able to communicate my level of comfort with pressure during the treatment. The payment system is also quite awkward. Although there's a sign that reads "tip in cash only," the owner is willing to charge your credit card to tip out the therapist / stylist. You'll be assessed tax on this amount. You'll also be harshly judged according to how much you shell out as everyone comically gathers around and speaks in a foreign tongue while throwing shade your way. Not cute. Bottom line, you'll save a few bucks if you choose Diane's Day Spa as an alternative to most other salons in town. However, the visit is entirely wasted if you end up with the wrong therapist who is not able to meet your needs. read more

Let's start with i really do enjoy coming here and recommend it to everyone i know. But i make sure to lay out the pros and cons to everyone so they know what they are getting into. Side note, I'm only talking about their upstairs location because I've never actually gone downstairs which looks like mainly hair and nails. I've had my nails, eyelash extensions, massage and my hair done here. Pros: Great prices and mostly friendly employees Cons: aunty in the front that "welcomes" you and you pay when pau is so rude. Even when you call to make appointment she is super rude but i tends to just look past her unhappiness. Last time i got my nails done the woman did a stellar job BUT i saw her take the up machine from the woman next to me who was using it for a pedicure and give it to me for my hands. I asked her to wipe it down and she did after asking but wasn't planning on cleaning it. Not i get it you're just putting your hand/feet in it but o feel like keep one for hands and one for feet and you should still clean it in between clients. Anyway i do like it here! read more

My coworker and I were talking about getting eyelash extensions done. While we were looking online, a customer with lashes came up and we asked her where she got them done. The lashes looked great on her so we thought, "Why not? It's only $35". My coworker called and we were able to get an appt for the both of us in the same week. A plus for that, but that was pretty much it. They accepted us both right away, but we were kind of shocked that they didn't ask us anything about our previous experience with eyelash extensions and they didn't bother explaining the procedure. They didn't work on both of us at the same time, I had to wait about 15 min for them to start on me. While I was waiting, I was watching one of the ladies as she was putting them on my friend. The first thing I noticed was that she did not listen to us when we told her how we wanted them styled. Right before I started, I reminded the other girl how I wanted them done. It took a little less than an hour to get them done, but when we both looked in the mirror, we had the same look on our faces. As soon as we left the shop, we started talking about what we didn't like. They turned out to be a lot longer than we had wanted. We wanted a more natural look. You can tell they look fake. It's like we're wearing falsies. I got a text this morning from my friend, telling me she had a hard time sleeping because they were hurting and she had a hard time washing her face. I saw her not too long ago, and she already lost a bunch of her lashes. I didn't loose that much, but my eyes get a little irritated when I blink sometimes. This is her first time getting extensions, but this is my second. I've never experienced my lashes like these. Never again, are we going back. read more

being a college student, and only working part time, i'm pretty tight on money. this place is affordable and actually does provide quality service, depending on who you go to. i always go to zedel for my services. so far she's done my hair for prom (last year) and colored my hair (about a few weeks ago). i enjoy going to her because she actually listens to what i want and there is no language barrier. i always get what i want with her and sometimes she gives me suggestions that are even better than what i wanted in the first place. she is only available by appointment, so you'll have to contact her. she's very sweet and always replies in a timely manner. i'm planning to see her for all my future hair services. i have been to another woman from here, but she did horrible. i came to her for eyebrow waxing and, although the shaping was nice, they weren't symmetrical. and i know, i know, "eyebrows are sisters, not twins." in this case, they weren't even related. i was furious and never wanted to get my brows done here ever again. i'm planning on coming back to try, though, but with zedel. as for nails, my mom comes here occasionally. usually when she goes, i leave her to roam china town and come back when i think she's almost done. every time i come back, she's fast asleep in her chair. i'm assuming its because the massage they give whilst performing the mani/pedi is just that good. i am planning to come here in the near future to get their eyelash extensions. when i get that done, i'll update my review. crossing my fingers and hoping they come out natural, full and voluminous! only MAJOR cons are language barriers (depending who you go to), parking & always busy. but they do have another location in kalihi. while parking there isn't all that great, either, it's almost always never busy. read more

Pros: - Staffs are nice. - Clean Cons: - Non English speaking manager whos also grumpy and doesnt listen to your request before she speaks - I had a massage and it was bad bec the lady couldnt understand English. I said "hard please" and nothing happened. I said it for another 3x more and nothing. I sat up and explained what hard ment by applying pressure to her arm. NOTHING. So i had a horrible massage experience w her. - Service is really a hit or miss even with nail services. read more

I've always wanted to get my lashes done, and a friend of mine had done hers here at Diane's Day Spa. For the look of it on her eyes, they looked cute and what was better about it was the price of $40. I decided to go get them done. I told her "long and full" as advised from my friend, going "natural" would look like no work was done. Even after I said long and full, my lashes didn't look as good as the girl next to me getting them done. They looked as natural as they could get in my preference. But you can't go wrong for $40, so I was okay with it. Took about an hour. My experience wasn't good. After the lady was about done, towards the end my eyes were glued shut from the glue she used on my eyes. I had trouble opening them, and when I did they stung from the glue that got in there I guess. I don't know anything about eyelash extensions, but I wasn't comfortable with my eyes almost glued shut. Not only was my first experience of getting my lashes done horrible, they hurt hours after I got them done. It felt like there was so much pressure on my eyes. I couldn't handle the pain. I'd rather wear falsies with the difficulties I experienced. The night I got my lashes done, I remember waking up to my eyes tearing. I couldn't even open them because when I did, my eyes stung again. I don't know what causes that, maybe the glue. They hurt so bad and the pressure on my eyes made them feel heavy, I began to rub my eyes and they came off. For some of the stubborn lashes, I had to carefully remove them. I felt way better after taking them off. Can't go wrong for $40, but I'd prefer paying the $100+ for better quality lashes. The picture of how many lashes fell off does not do justice. There were a lot more lashes that came off. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else for the right price. read more
