The previous moving company I hired didn't end up working out, so I contacted Diarra Moving with less than 24 hours' notice. The owner, Mpaly, was flexible and worked with my schedule to make the move happen. Communication was prompt and the move was smooth from start to finish. My two movers arrived 5 minutes early, listened carefully to my instructions, and efficiently wrapped my belongings. I moved from a one-bedroom to a studio, and everything was completed in under 3 hours, including the drive (~30 min). None of my belongings were damaged, and there was no damage property's elevators, walls, or common areas either. I was quoted $600 for 3-hour minimum, but negotiated down to $550 because I knew my move was going to be quick. Mpaly had no problem giving me the discount . I would absolutely use them again in the future and have already recommended them to friends and family. I used Diarra Moving Services over a three-month period to help our family move from our home of 43 years to three separate homes. They were fantastic! I seldom do reviews and for companies and crew who exceeded all expectations. Reliability = 5+ stars, knowledgeable of all types of moves = 5+ stars. The owner even provided ideas for furniture and storage placements based on his years of experience. All of his crew were of their staff were friendly, polite, trustworthy and careful with even things I considered trash. They were sensitive about family treasures that had no value but were priceless to the family. Everyone in the family was happy with the services they provided and two other friends have since used them with equal appreciation. Their prices are reasonable and they were willing to add or change moving plans at a moment's notice. Hire them! You won't be disappointed. Zero stars. I was excited to support a small, black owned business, and was excited about Diarra's rates. But after using their services for a studio to one bedroom move from West Seattle to 1 mile away, I lost money on their service after deducting how much of property broken and damaged (see photos of TV and furniture). I'm making a point at the top of this review to state that yes, I did speak with the owner, Ali, over the phone. He insisted that he had to come back to see the damage in person even though we had photos, before we could get some portion of the value of my property back. Seeing as there was no paperwork up front, as some other reviewers have also attested to, I find this doubtful and declined to have any more Diarra employees in or near my home as they were unprofessional and had a hard time communicating with us. I asked for a refund to help pay for all the property that is broken and was declined by the owner. The most expensive break was our 55" television, which we excitedly mounted last night only to try to turn it on and have the backlight illuminate cracking across the screen. It does not produce an image anymore. The movers did not wrap my couch and a had hard time getting in into building so they pushed and dragged in on the stairs and floor, ripping open the stitching and leaving dark drag marks on each corners. Our white cabinet was chipped into (again, see photos) and 4 of our paper wrapped crystal glasses were shattered. We've moved within Seattle a few times in the last few years and never had such a poor experience. We last used Two Men and a Truck who wrapped all items and were extremely professional and gentle with our things. We made the mistake of choosing budget over quality and we paid for it. To replace our TV alone we will have lost over $400 in the end on this move. I see on similar negative reviews for this business, the owner has commented "provide proof you hired us and you're not confused with some other business". The proof is in the photos I've attached. I would like to have my money refunded for this service. Regardless, we learned the valuable lesson that many positive Yelp reviews for movers does not mean the movers we should to hire. Ali is great! The owner is so kind and faithful. The two movers worked for Diarra moving company and took twice as much estimate time to move my 700 sq feet apartment to my new apartment that is located 3.6 miles away or 1 exit. The move was from morning 9:30 to 4:30pm almost. I have: -one queen size bed -one 2-ppl couch -one bookshelf and bookcase - a small TV - 8 cases of wines (6 bottles per case) But I do have hundreds of clothes which are all in boxes and bags ( about 7 XL Home Depot box). My bed was falling apart but Ali went out his way to fix it with care after I communicated with him one week later. Please keep in mind my bed is not ikea bed and it does come with 6 drawers on the side. The movers helped me to disassemble and reassemble the bed like all other movers I hired before. Other things: -I was never able to found my cleaning stuffs, dish soap, hand soap, sponge, Clorox, swiffers etc little stuff that was adding more hazzels when you moved to new home. -My Nepresso machine never worked after the moving day- I really don't know what happened but it was working on the moving day morning cuz I had a cup of coffee - make sure you have cash- the moving time was twice more than I expected- I hired 4 different moving companies in the past and ALL, yes All of them are very efficient- they finished way before the 3 hours windows and packed everything- nothing was broken - They don't move anything that is fragile, keep this in mind. But I asked the movers to help me move the wines and tell them if any wines are broken they don't have to pay for it The Diarra moving company does have a very attractive price and I honestly appreciate the owner's honest and efforts. I also feel thankful the two movers who helped me to move during the 90 degree weather while I was taking care of my new born. But keep in mind if you can, ask the owner Ali to be your mover - he is the best and there is reason why ppl give 5 start to Diarra, all because of this guy. * I apologize but I just can't stop thinking about my poor Nepresso machine - it serves me at two moving time in the past 3 years and I can't help to feel a bit sad to let it go. * and one of the movers- Mohammed(? Ali, the owner communicated very well from the beginning by texts. Even when I had to change the date, Ali was patient and worked with me on a new date. Price was very fair and the work was done quickly and with a lot of care into details, by wrapping in blankets and taking apart furnitures to load. A couple of days after the move we found out that one of the beds was not put together well. We called Ali and he came to fix it a day after, with no argument, no extra charge and a big smile. Zero star if I could. Do not hire these guys. I hired them for $150 an hour. Initially there has been some miscommuncation between us; I told them initially through the Yelp messaging system that the location would be from Tacoma to Kirkland. I mistakenly put down the wrong city for the starting address when they asked me about it in text. When put into Google Maps, the address does not exist. But they somehow showed up in Tacoma anyways. This was baffling and maddening, because I thought I was clear that I was moving from Tacoma to Kirkland. So I got charged for an extra hour for their mistake. I've spoken to the owner to tell him that it's a time sensitive move. That I need to get to the Tacoma storage by 7pm. They called me from Tacoma at 2:30-3pm that they are in Tacoma. They said they can come back to Kirkland if I start getting charged starting 3pm. I said yes, stupidly not knowing the further trouble the team's imcompetent would cause me. They get me my place in Kirland at around 4:30pm. Me and my friend bring down all the boxes from 2nd floor to the ground floor in the parking lot. We did this to be able to make the 7pm deadline for the storage in Tacoma; we knew it was tight so we did our best. From there it was easy for the crew to pick up and load into the truck. They came and started work. The boxes went fast. The trickier items such as the La Z Boy which I spoken to the owner's wife about was incompetently dealt with. Through Yelp's messaging system I said "I have a 250 lbs couch (a lazboy), some men delivering have struggled with it, do you think with 2 of your people it would be sufficient?" and they replied: "Yes 2 men crew will be sufficient. Thank you" (through Yelp messaging). When it came to the couch, the 2 men took over 1hour and 10minutes before giving up and calling their boss. So from 5:00pm to around 6:10pm, they were stuck on the couch. I was frustrated so I called the boss' wife who was the moving scheduler and explaned the situation. I did not get a callback. Instead, the 2 men must have called the boss and he started to make his way. The boss arrives at around 7:10pm. They get the couch out in 10 minutes. At this point I'm angry and frustrated. They also damaged vinyl laying in the hallway at multiple spots. The boss comes up to me to make a terrible deal which I had no choice but to make. It was a terrible experience. I felt intimidated. He said he will still have to charge me for 4 hours and 30 minutes of service (from 3pm to 7:30pm). And that he would store the contents overnight and drop it off in Tacoma, but I would still be charged labor costs in the morning. I said this was not a good deal for me, because his guys took 2 hours what would have been a 10 minute job which made me miss my storage unit deadline at 7pm, in addition to showing up at the wrong location. So they showed up at the storage in the morning and took them 1 hour to finish off loading it. So in total they charged me 5 hours and 30 mins for a job that should have been half of that. They only took cash, so they are probably a shady business. I should have just ran when they say they only take cash. Recent update: The damaged vinyl cost me $872.00 just found out today from my previous apartment complex manager. Avoid these people. Run. Update 2021-11-15-19:18 The owner called my phone number, I think he was trying to explain himself without any kind of an apology so I did not feel like arguing this issue at this time so I told that he will be talking with my lawyer and I hung up. He called back few minutes later not respecting my boundaries. I blocked his phone number. I'm conflicted in writing this review because I think the workers here worked hard and I want to support small businesses, but I feel that I need to be honest as well. Setting up an appointment at this place was super easy, just contacted them through yelp to get everything set up. The pricing was great (relatively low compared to others). I did found it interesting in the beginning of the move that they didn't have my sign any paperwork though, but I figured it's a small business and that it should be fine since they have a 5 star review. The employees were nice and pretty quick/efficient with the move out. They even took the time to notify me that some boxes were light and asked me if I wanted to add more things to it. One thing I did notice though was I heard a good amount of thuds as items hit my old apartment's walls when they were transporting things. I don't have any ridiculously expensive furniture so I wasn't too worried about it, but I was more concerned about any dings in the walls. My partner was at my new place and instructed them about things going on, so I can't say too much about the move in until after I got there. I will say though, that they helped him move this huge dresser from one room to the other, which I really appreciated. I don't think we could've done it ourselves. I am giving this 3/5 stars is for missing small pieces and damaged furniture. 1. I noticed noticed a couple screwed and pegs missing out of a couple items of furniture after the move. I had to order some replacements on amazon, but it wasn't too bad (maybe $5-8?). It would've been nice if they were able to make sure all the pegs were secure before moving or wrap them up if they aren't. These are the metal pegs to hold up shelves, cabinets and what not. The second thing is that I noticed I had some long scratches all along one side of my queens size bed frame. I messaged Diarra to mention the scratches and sent some pictures. He was quick to respond and apologize. He told me he felt really bad and he spoke to the movers. They mentioned that I was so nice and that they appreciated that I even tipped them. He mentioned that he would remove the $40 travel fee on my next move to make up for it. I appreciated the apology, but I don't think I'm moving from my new place for a while, so that's not really that helpful to me. I appreciated the apology and believe he felt bad, but I would be nervous using them again in the future. What would happen if they broke my TV or something more expensive? Would I just get an apology and credit next time I move? I think the risk is just too great for me to use them again. I hope they choose to implement some kind of damage agreement in the future, I think it could protect them as well so they don't get sued for damaging items. . Overall, these workers work hard, but I don't think they're careful enough with everything. I think it would benefit them to be more mindful of items and hitting walls. I also think they should have some damage agreement. It's scary not knowing what will happen if they damage things during a move. I don't think I would use these guys again. read more

Used Diarra for our local move. The movers were nice enough but seemed to work at a slower than expected pace. What I did like was they were careful with my things and did pack the truck well to not cause damage. They also showed up on time and maneuvered the 17ft truck like pros. However,I also noticed the movers seemed to be bickering back and forth most the day which I think added unnecessary time and at times one was on Bluetooth talking to someone at different times throughout the day. We were departing a townhouse so several flights of stairs and super heavy sleep sofa didn't slow this team down. My only concern was making sure they stopped and had some water during the load out. The truck was packed tight and efficiently so nothing moved nor was damaged in transit across town to the new place. These guys are AMAZING! We hired Diarra for a move from our 1 bedroom apartment to our new place. They arrived right on time for our 8 AM appointment. They QUICKLY and carefully moved our bedroom, kitchen and living room furniture and even disassembled and reassembled our bed. In total the job took about 2.5 hours, and these guys were efficient--I can't imagine another company being any faster. On top of that, our movers, Ali and Dicko were super friendly and professional. I was originally going to use a different company to move, but I used Yelp's bid feature to send a request to a handful of companies. Not only did Diarra respond first (within minutes), but they were also the most reasonably priced. Although they didn't have a whole bunch of reviews, they had a 5 star rating average which gave me confidence booking. I'm glad I did! The funny thing is when we moved into to our new place we didn't really have a plan setting up our furniture, we asked them what they thought. I'm super stoked that I found this moving company. I was arriving on a Sunday and they were the only moving company that responded with availability. I did help unload the 26 foot truck but that's just how I am. But once the 2 movers came the truck got unloaded within 2 hours. They do have a 3 hour minimum but it's worth it because they did the job safely and with care. Scheduled a move starting at 9am. Ali showed up with his partner at 8:45 ready to help. Very polite and ready to help. They quickly moved all the furniture and even had all the tools to unscrew everything to take everything apart. Not a single scratch on all the furniture. The truck was included in the price of the move, which was exceptionally convenient. When arrived at my other house they quickly unloaded everything and assembled things even quicker. All in all it was a great experience and I would definitely use their services again! One thing that I would recommend for Ali and this business is to maybe use some foot covers, we are in the rain season and not taking the shoes off or taking them off and putting them back on every second might be inconvenient but some people have carpet and wouldn't want to get it dirty. Let me know if you can do it for $100. They: 150for two men [[A week later.]] Me: Hello Mplay, does your quote still mean I will be charged only if the task is completed? They: I am sorry, $200 is my last price Me: Wait, you said $150 last time? On March 28th. Are you not able to honor that quote anymore? They: [[No response]] Here are the problems - 1. Simply because I got back to them after a week, they decided to price gouge and raise the price by $50. They probably thought I couldn't find anyone else because of the Corona virus situation and tried to take advantage. 2. The job is a 10 minute task to move a washer/dryer into a closet on the same floor. Someone else on Yelp did it in 10 minutes literally and charged me $100. So, these guys started off with an unreasonable quote and then bumped it up by another $50 when they thought I don't have other options. 3. Finally, it is fine if they decided to price gouge but they didn't have the courtesy to respond to my last message asking if they can honor their original quote. They just ghosted. This is by far the best moving company we've hired (we have hired four companies for moves before). They were on time, very professional, and efficient. They did not waste any time. Super nice people too. We had cleaning people work alongside them because we were preparing for a home sale on a tight timeline and the cleaning people even mentioned out how great this team was. I was so pleased to have chosen Diarra moving to take care of my move. When they told me they will arrive at 11am, the truck arrived like a Swedish clock. Not 11:01 not 10:59, but 11am sharp. They were super careful with my furniture, disassembled what needed to be disassembled and wrapped what needed to be wrapped. There were no extra charges number of stairs, no extra BS. They were clear and transparent about the price and the most important was how charismatic and pura nice people they are. If I ever need to move again I know who I am calling. I found Diarra Moving Services here on Yelp. They were the quickest to respond and answered all of my questions quickly and efficiently so I decided to pick them to help me move. They confirmed the day ahead of time and arrived exactly on time when they said they would. It look them less than one hour for two guys to load up my small apartment and off we went to the new place. Once there, despite moving up to the third floor with a narrow stairwell that they had to deal with, they still had all of my stuff moved in within an hour. They did tell me up front that they would charge for a three hour minimum and that's totally fine with me. I'd much rather they be done early (a little over two hours total, with travel) than take much longer than expected. As far as my stuff: they padded and wrapped my sensitive electronics, continued to ask good questions, didn't slow down at all and, entirely because of them, this move went amazingly well. We had a 1200-pound sauna spread among five big boxes in our garage and needed movers to haul each 20 vertical feet up a muddy, slippery, steep slope to our side yard and help me assemble it. I called three highly-rated movers. One said they didn't help with assembly. Diarra was the cheaper of the other two, plus they could help sooner: a Sunday morning. They arrived 12 minutes early and made quick work of hauling up the boxes. The instructions said assembly would take 2 to 5 hours. With Diarra's help, we finished in about an hour. These things impressed me: - They were happy and enthusiastic, even in miserable circumstances. - They were intelligent. They intuitively seated heavy components together correctly and were quick to diagnose and overcome spatial problems. - They exercised extreme care, even protecting surfaces I hadn't thought to. - People younger than I often seem to be continuously on pins and needles awaiting the distraction of their phones. This team's attention was completely focused on the project the entire time. Even when I'd say, "take a break while I read this manual" they'd just stand there searching for some way to help. - They were a buzzing beehive of productivity. When we finished, I dropped a giant piece of cardboard into our lower garden and turned to see all of them had picked up packaging waste to do the same. - We hadn't talked about them hauling the mountain of packaging waste away, but they were happy to add that on and swiftly collected strewn waste into their truck. The moving experience was not good. It took literally twice as long as any move I've done (6 hours for a 1 BR, only 1 mile between locations). There was a slight delay due to a double-booked elevator but not a 3 hour delay - an hour would be generous. One of the movers was hard working and friendly, the other clearly did not want to be there (or he was trying to milk the clock) - complaining, starting arguments with the other mover, and sitting/leaning whenever he could, while the other mover shlepped things around. They were arguing loudly in my elevator, in the hallway and in my old place - unprofessional and embarrassing. The other issue is that I was quoted $85/hour but was charged $100/hour. I was told "my cousin myst have told you the wrong thing." The time also changed. And, I did not get a receipt but paid partially by check (I hadn't planned on a six hour charge so was short on cash). I'm wondering now, since the check was made out to someone other than the owner listed here, if they overcharged me and pocketed the money, telling the owner they charged me less ... At the end of the move, the main mover tried leaving me with bags of trash he mistakenly brought to the new place, telling me he had to get to another job. That was pretty unprofessional. My primary complaints were that they: -Scratched our TV's screen and deflected blame -Dinged up walls and ceilings and trims (I can tell it was from the moving because everything was freshly painted) -Clipped their truck on the fences of my new home, were cagey about giving company and insurance details On top of that were some things I'd otherwise let slide, like: -The two man team's inefficient communication (I'd talk to guy A, he'd yell at guy B, and the guy B would come back and ask me what to do anyways) -They weren't particularly quick (6.5 hours to move contents of an under 1k sqft 2br to another location, with everything was packed and disassembled beforehand) -No one ever mentioned until literally the last moment that they only took cash (yes, I know it's on the site; but when you want cash only it deserves up-front communication) -Because they took so long and left the cash bit to the last minute, they were very antsy and pushy in getting us to withdraw cash. I don't blame them, but this experience especially left a bad taste in my mouth -They put in the effort to wrap furniture, but some of it got dented and scratched anyways -We told them up front we had a digital piano. Regardless, they seemed surprised, and waiting around calling their office to confirm it Apparently everyone else had a great time with them, and I suspect one of our two movers was new and rather careless. We've had some bad experiences with movers and Diarra was a breath of fresh air. We've used them for two moves and both times they are super prepared, energetic and careful. They protect everything carefully with wraps. And they have been really reliable and communicative--on time, they call when they are 15 mins out, which is reassuring, and when we needed to reschedule because of a big snow they were flexible and kind. I can't say enough good things about this company. I was in a disaster situation after being in Seattle less than a year and having already moved once and Diarra moved me in the quick and easy move from storage to my new apartment and I didn't think much of it, it was boxes to an apartment and I had no furniture. This situation was the total opposite and Diarra came to my actual rescue. My now two bedroom apartment flooded from a neighbor and my landlord came late to assess repairs, did not clearly communicate where I was to go and the restoration company began demoing and putting in equipment before I had somewhere to go. Once my lease was terminated I had less than 4 days to pack once I knew where I was moving, I booked Diarra on Sunday, got approved for an apartment Monday, worked 10 hour days until Tuesday night and Wednesday at 9:30 am, two of the brothers showed up ready to pack. And I mean PACK. Everything, every dish, every loose pen, laundry in the dryer the contractor moved into the other bedroom, I mean my gosh did they get more than they signed up for. They didn't complain once, they helped with everything, were respectful of my stress as a usually composed person who helps run businesses, I was on overload. I downsized from a two bedroom to a small one bedroom with no planning, no storage unit and they laughed with me, not at me. They took my extra mattress to big item disposal. Graciously took a couple things that I stressed when thinking I was going to need to post to sell, I mean they nailed it. No scratches on the floor (my biggest fear). And honestly, they just helped me deal with one of the worst situations of my adult life, alone in a city where I don't know anyone who could help me. I'll use them for every move I have. Even if it's one hour, I'll pay three. Take care of these men when they come to your home! They will work hard and work side by side with you even if it sucks! I'm sure they would have done it all even if I was sitting on the couch eating bon bons all day. And not to mention my over protective dachshund was so poorly behaved and barked at them half the day. These men are saints. And I'm not just saying this. They moved me Wednesday. I'm writing this now Tuesday. Emotions are gone, I'm just incredibly grateful. Thank you Diarra and family.
