I stopped by Dick N' Dixie's during my time in Salt Lake City on a Thursday Night before Kilby Block Party. I had a solid experience overall. The bar has a fun, laid-back vibe that feels very local and unpretentious. It's the kind of place that's easy to settle into for a casual night out with friends with indoor and outdoor seating.  The drinks were good, offering a lot of local/state options. I grabbed a Utah Cider. The staff was friendly, and there was plenty of energy in the space without it feeling overwhelming. I liked that they have a door to order food from the restaurant next door. Overall, a great neighborhood bar with personality, and definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. As I say in most of my reviews I will likely be back if I am in town. read more

The more I think about it, and this may sound a bit paranoid, but even paranoid people may have enemies, right? If you read my prior review you will understand, but I think it was a set up so I would be made to never come back. The bartender harassed me for having two paper menus then after I profusely apologized to him, he laughed at me looking directly at me. I just called back after this incident a few times to see if the same bartender was working to avoid his shift. In any event, to make a long story short, I am a retired attorney. I called and spoke to the owner. She suggested I wanted to sue her. I said unequivocally I had no interest suing her then she claimed falsely I was threatening to sue her. Very Kafkeasque. Very disingenuous. Anyway, there is a reason why I am writing this. Just like the Sunday I went to this bar and was harassed and laughed at, I went there to quietly read a book. How more a perfect client could you have? I am 73 years old. No way could I be a bother to anyone. I thought this bartender must hate me. Was race an issue? I actually was a civil rights attorney. No, I think this owner maybe, possibly could have wanted me out? Is that why she was so afraid I would sue her? I had never spoken to her before this incident. Did one of the regular customers say something that they did not like me? I virtually never spoke to any of them much. Never a problem. All I ever wanted from the first day I walked into this place was to find a neighborhood bar I could go to and have a beer and watch sports and find friendly people. I am a Zen Buddhist practitioner. Dick N' Dixie's pretty much hits all the classic dive bar bases; located conveniently downtown with a patio, tunes on the jukebox, a photo booth, free pool, and old pinball machines. While I wouldn't call the customer service friendly, the bartenders are straightforward and no fuss - which adds to the divey ambiance. You can order Yoko Ramen from a window inside and enjoy a cold beer with a warm bowl of ramen. Bathrooms are always clean when I visit and I really enjoy the casual feel of the space! Just don't expect to ask for a mocktail here without getting a funny look from the bartender. read more

Used to be a good place not any longer apparently. Came in 3/29/23 at 1505 and sat for 20 min waiting for the moronic women server to take or order but was to busy doing crossword puzzles with her buddies. If your not a regular you don't count. Guy came in and got two beers while we still waited to be helped. She walked right next to us and asked a regular the answer to a crossword puzzle than walked back and leans on the counter and continued the game. Go the Handlebar if you want good service. I have been to this bar many nights with friends after work. tonight doesn't hold a candle to any nights... not because I had so much fun but because my experience was so incredibly horrid. i've been in the restaurant industry for the past 11 years of my life.... been a bartender, (bigger bar than this lil baby bar), manager, and cook. That being said Isaac "loveboat" is known to have a bad attitude, people who have been regulars longer than I verify this no smile and zero customer service skill whatsoever is always this rude. No please. no thank you. I feel like this is a bit of an under appreciated spot, but that might be because I've only been by during off hours when it's slow, haven't seen it on a weekend night. Though they don't serve food, they are connected to Yoko next door, and they have a window that you can order through and eat at the bar, which is awesome. This is a fun little sports/soccer bar with a HUGE assortment of bottled and canned beers. They have your normal bar stuff as well but I would come here for the beer selection since it is amazing. Came here for trivia one night. It's kinda small but I'm not sure how busy it gets on weekends since it's not in the heart of downtown. There's a parking lot in the back but it's only for customers of specific businesses in that area and unfortunately, Dick N' Dixie's is not one of them. There's a pool table in the back but there wouldn't be enough space to play if it got busy. There's an order window into Yoko Ramen next door so you can grab some delicious food without leaving the bar - genius! I would classify this as a dive bar but some people may think it's not divey enough. I don't think I'd personally come back since this bar wasn't really my taste. But I can see that some people would enjoy hanging out away from how crazy downtown can get on the weekends. read more

Love this bar! Born and raised in salt lake so I came here a lot in college when I went to the U. I've moved away since graduation but I always make sure to at least grab one drink here whenever I'm back. The atmosphere and awesome customer service is still the same after all these years. The drinks aren't fancy but super cheap! Only $3 for the well whisky. They also have a hard seltzer on tap that is super tasty. I really like all of the staff too. My friends have brought me here several times and it's always been a good experience. Good gin & tonics, good vodka crans, though of course it's pretty hard to mess those up. But when I haven't felt like making any decisions for myself, they've surprised me with awesome drinks I never could've imagined. One was this horrifying cheesecake dessert shot that went from liquid to curdled solid pseudo-cheesecake chunks and it was amazing. Really did taste just like cheesecake. Or maybe I was just drunk. Haha. Slightly awkward experience with the bartenders a couple times, I guess because there was history with one of my friends or something? Once they thought my friend and I were dating, so the bartender completelyyyyyy ignored me and wouldn't serve me at all until my friend pointed out that I'm gay. Dick N' Dixie's is a solid place to grab a beer or cocktail near downtown SLC. Their wide beer selection and full bar mean you can grab a drink, and Yoko Ramen SLC serves food from a counter inside. Want an ice cold beer with some gyoza? Feel like a margarita with your ramen? You can do that here! There are pool tables and a small outdoor patio for those great weather days. The staff is awesome. I came here with my fiancé hoping to have a fun night out. We are both 30 and clearly look over the age of 21 but the bouncer gave us a very hard time. The bay used a horrible scanner system because our ID's both scanned as fake when they clearly weren't. He ultimately let us in after we sat there convincing him we are well over 21. About 10 minutes later a group of girls showed up who looked about 17-18 max and he was clearly flirting with them outside the door and I watched as he didn't even scan their IDs, just glanced at them and let them in the door. This is the perfect bar for my tastes. It's small, clean, and unpretentious without being divey. It's what I think of when I think "neighborhood" bar. If you go there a few times the bartenders make it a point to get to know your name and what you like to drink. They have a small but good mix of draft beers and more adventurous beers in cans and bottles. And they have a couple of cheap options so you can have a nice time without breaking the bank. The quiz on Tuesday nights draws in a crowd that's about half-regulars and half-people trying it out. It can get rowdy, and it's really fun! But maybe not the best time to be there if you're trying to have an intimate conversation. The regular crowd is usually friendly and outgoing too. If you want food you can order from Yoko Ramen through a window and they'll text you when it's ready to pick up. Maybe I'll leave Yoko a review of its own. Music comes from a TouchTunes machine and it's whatever the customers choose. If you don't like it I recommend the TouchTunes app which is really cool because it lets you choose songs from your phone. I honestly think a lot of these negative reviews are from people who had a bad experience of their own making. The staff takes the safety of the customers very seriously and they don't tolerate any BS, so if you're a jerk with an attitude you're not going to have a good time. I went back to this bar with a group. This was a frightening proposition. The last time I entered Dick N Dixie's establishment, I was treated like a shoe that had just stepped in excrement. Was I willing to scrape myself off and try again? However, people love this place, so why not forget about the initial stench and try again. Trust the stink! The Miasma Theory takes hold at this place. Dick N Dixie's is a horrible bar unless you have masochistic tendencies and find abuse atavistically comforting. The bad music is loud and it is very difficult hearing yourself think. At Dick N Dixie's that's okay, because too much pondering will be a reminder of what a crappy place this is. Televisions complement the ugly decor, giving you something to look at in order to avoid the unwelcoming and vapid looks of your fellow patrons. The service is consumed by hate, disdain, and a thorough dismissal of graciousness. The folks behind the bar have developed the art of the sneer. I politely requested a lager beer without a heavy taste for my wife. The bartender gave me his practiced sneer and literally tossed the beer menu at me. I smiled and told him just pour me anything. He filled a glass with beer and slid it to me, forcing the liquid to slosh over the edge. Now, I am 67 years old, utterly non-threatening, and in the world of decorum and proper manners, should be treated with a modicum of respect simply due to my age. I am from NYC originally, and if a bartender in New York treats someone like this cretin treated me, he would be in traction the next day. For the sake of the group, I simply drank my vodka and stared at the table. Ten years ago someone at Dick N Dixie's would be hurt bad and the police would be involved. My testosterone level has dissipated. Although, I'm thinking of going back just to test the waters. "I'm 67 years old. Why would I start something with a guy twice my size and half my age. We live right by this place so we knew we had to try it. We popped in on July 4th since they're open almost every single day of the year (nice!). They have a pretty good selection of beer. They didn't have the one I originally wanted; the paper menu isn't quite up to date, but the chalkboard menu is. But the bartender was still able to find another that I liked! And sorry I forgot the name of our bartender but she was really friendly and made an awesome spicy Bloody Mary for us. She even offered to add two extra olives since my fiancé and I were sharing it. We're not huge olive fans so we declined her offer but after eating them, we wished we would've taken those extra olives! The drinks here are super affordable and tasty. The atmosphere is divey but not dirty. We'll definitely come back! We also have to try out their trivia nights on Tuesdays! read more
