I wanted to love this place because they were a 2025 finalist (top 5) by the James Beard Foundation for outstanding bar. In full transparency it has been 2-3 years since my first and last visit to Water Witch. I noticed this in my drafts and thought I should complete my review. That said, I think I hyped this place up in my head too much before my visit because of the James Beard nod. So when it didn't quite hit the mark for me, I was disappointed. It's quite an intimate bar. By that I mean small space inside. The main bar has seating of course and there are a few seating areas directly behind the barstool area. There is a small walkway that separates the bar and the seating area. So the seating area is looking straight forward at the bartenders and the backs of people on barstools. I felt like the people behind me were staring into my soul lol, but that's a me problem ha. It's a modern design and beautifully decorated. I had two drinks. One from the menu and one that I told the bartender what I liked and disliked. He then made a drink based upon my taste. In my opinion it tasted similar to the one from the menu, which was disappointing because I was hoping for something different. There was one bartender that evening and one bar back, so even with the few people at the bar (I'd say 6-7 including me and a guest) and the 4 people seated behind us. It took some time to get his attention and order a drink. Which is part of the reason I only had two drinks. I would probably give this place another try since it's been some time since I've been there. As I always like to say. Stop in and judge for yourself. read more

The kind of local's bar that I wish existed in my neighborhood. Chill vibes, great cocktails. House negroni is a winner- a pretty light pink drink served on a giant cube with a fun jello-vibe garnish. Only one N/A on the menu, but it was tasty. Good drinks! Good vibe! Stopped here for drinks on a Saturday night and the place was popping! We had a group of five and we were lucky to score some stool/bar seating right up front. The prices were very reasonable! Drafts were $7 and some cocktails were $11. The bartenders were super friendly and polite and talented! I really enjoyed watching them prepare five drinks at once without loosing a beat! The music was also great! They were rocking early 2000s jams. I ordered their penecilin cocktail which had ginger, honey, coconut and lemon with whiskey and it was delicious!! Everyone else enjoyed their drinks and we had a great time! read more

I love Water Witch! There's a cocktail that I used to get in Indianapolis and I can't find anything like it. I showed the bartender what was in it and he was able to make it. The bar was cute and had a chill vibe but like the other reviews it was a little on the small side. I think this place would be great to visit during the weekdays. We came here on a Saturday night and we couldn't find anywhere to sit and standing anywhere inside just felt like we were constantly in someone's way. 100 stars. In about 30 minutes, this went from "we just arrived in town, let's check out a cocktail bar" to "is this one of the best bars in the world?!" It's small, it's local, it's eclectic. It's also home to incredibly well-crafted drinks served up by incredibly knowledgeable staff. Big shout out to Dawson, who became one of our all-time favorite bartenders over the few hours we spent there. And along the way, the people on either side of us at the bar became a little community. I can imagine it gets busy and I can imagine it could be hard to score a seat at times. But it's sure worth trying for. What a rare gem of an experience. What a true treat of a place. read more

I've been here once, with a group of friends. The experience was very average, even though I wanted to love it as I love the other businesses in the Central 9th area. The service was a little difficult; my friend and I waited for a very long time before we could order drinks. When we did get our drinks, we were not wowed by them. I had a really really hard time finishing mine because it was so heavy on the Campari that there was no other flavor to my drink other than extremely strong Campari. I usually have no problem with drinks containing Campari but this was just over the top. As much of the seating is on the patio, be aware that you may be quite cold at certain parts of the year, and we were sitting next to a group of smokers. This made it unpleasant overall to be breathing pretty strong second-hand smoke the whole time we sat there. We did not end up getting a second round of drinks. read more

Wow! An experience to be reckon with. I absolutely love this bar. By far my favorite night ambiance. I felt safe all night as a woman alone. Additionally the parking is lack luster and so is the seating it is a small location so if you don't get there early don't be surprised you won't have a table to sit at! A friend of mine is a former bartender, and he suggested that we meet up at Water Witch to get a Vesper. I figured that he would know where to go, given his professional experience. He wasn't wrong-they made a great drink. He also pointed out that they don't have a cocktail menu-you just request what you want and they make it. I think that's a sign that they know their stuff-they don't have to rely on a template or list of recipes. But that also means you have to know what you want, or give some kind of guidance. It's a small bar with limited seating, so it can get pretty cozy on certain nights. When the weather doesn't suck too much, you can sit outside on the patio, which nearly doubles the seating capacity. Parking is pretty limited, but there's a Trax station very close-so take advantage of that! On a separate note, I didn't see a water witch anywhere..in case you're looking. read more

We walked inside and the decor is simple and the lighting gives off and very inviting and relaxing vibe. Service was top notch. First time at Water Witch and now it's my favorite watering hole. Our High West Old Fashioned and dirty martini were perfectly made. They have a generous hand which is an excellent trait. Don't miss their drink specials on the board. I've heard you can bring food from next door neighbor's Nohm and Laziz but the bartenders didn't seem psyched about this. Don't be deterred by the construction outside - this is a scene worth finding a parking spot for. read more

We went to water witch in the afternoon after they had opened, grabbing some drinks before we had a larger dinner. Nobody addressed us as we walked in, and didn't talk to us after we sat down. We ended up getting up from the bar top to order from the bar, but still don't know if that's how the service is there or if someone was supposed to come to us (fine either way). It was extremely slow, and we were almost the only ones there along with a few bartenders. We ordered chips and salsa, which is the ONLY item on their "food menu", which they call it that. This was no problem, however, when we went to ask for more chips (happy to pay for it if that's the case) the bartender did not seem thrilled to be helpful and barely exchanged any words. Ambiance was eclectic, and drinks were good, but not sure if I'd need to come running back here soon. I can't imagine what it's like on busier nights. read more

The price of the drinks are SUPER over priced considering you can only get 2.5oz of alcohol in each drink and only 1.5oz of the actual liquor. I got a cider for $7 and it literally came in a half cup. The place was busy and had a nice little patio but I am shocked people come here considering the prices. Scoop is the man! This bar was amazingly amazing. If you're in SLC and you're a cocktail person, this place is a must. If you're thinking about not going here...you're thinking crazy. I headed to Water Witch on the suggestion from a few bartenders I had the pleasure of exchanging local SLC food and drinks tips with. Supposedly known as being an innovative bar, with owners and bartenders passionate about their product and space, making their own syrups, squeezing their own juice, and all the yada yada yada that goes with it, I was looking forward to a thoughtfully crafted and tasty libation. The interior is small and inviting and most of people there seemed to be return patrons. I was eventuality greeted by Adam, and made a point of expressing that I was really happy to be at a industry acknowledged bartenders bar and asked for a suggestion between the Flaming Mai Tai, because who doesn't like seeing their drink on fire, and the Gravy Boat. Adam veers me towards the Gravy Boat, and yeah, it sounds great, he also suggests I should be drinking my "gravy boat" out of a gravy boat because it's fun, but being more practical than fun, I opt for a glass instead. What I ordered, the Gravy Boat, the ingredients being Wild Turkey Bourbon 101, Fernet, orgeat, cinnamon and lemon. What I get, a drink with the only discernible ingredient being ginger juice and a lime; alas, ginger juice and lime are not ingredients of the drink. When he tells me the ginger is fresh squeezed, which should have been a trigger for him that this not the right cocktail. I almost got the impression I was being played, and this wasn't the gravy boat, but the banana boat from a wannabe look at me mixologist, who was more interested in free throwing wads of debris and giving free shooters to everyone else at the bar, except me. My impression, it was as if I accidentally stumbled into the wrong house party of some aging hipster who still lived in his parents basement and given the I'll wonder if she will notice it's the worst libation and cocktail experience of this millennium. We were looking for a good drink spot to kill a bit of time, and luckily we were encouraged to try Water Witch by our waiter at Vertical Diner down the street (plus: you can walk to WW from VD!) We walked less than 5mins to WW and found that the place was actually poppin' on a Sunday afternoon. Luckily, there was no line and open spots at the bar, so we were seated right away (they also have outdoor seating under a closed tarp, but I couldn't tell if there was heaters -- it was flurry-snowing that day). Being able to sit at a bar and chat with the bartender is one of our fave things to do. It's another thing that COVID has made more difficult, so we were happy to be able to do this here! We downloaded the menu with the QR code, but couldn't decide. Antonio behind the bar let us know that the bartenders are able to come up creative, improvised drinks if we were able to tell them a lil' of what we were hoping for, i.e. whiskey with citrus and tequila with citrus. The friendly female bartender made us a couple drinks that were quite refreshing and delightful. The prices are surprisingly reasonable, and patrons were also surprisingly respectful (low talking volume). We had to keep our voices down for once! The ambiance is laidback and cool. I would totally come back for a date night (before or after dinner) or bring back some friends from outta town. read more
