I discovered that a group of drawings that I wanted to submit to juried art shows did not photograph well - the paper always appeared slightly grey. I researched and came upon Scale Up. I am so glad I did. J.P. and Dylan do such beautiful work and treat artists and artwork with courtesy and respect. For my needs, I ended up with small files for web use, medium for small format printing, and large files for full-color archival pigment printing. In the second, much larger batch. I discovered a problem - the image had a grey background. I emailed JP with this info. He said to hold off and not pick up the work. He figured out the problem very quickly and fixed it. He also took the time to explain exactly what had happened. The final images were flawless. When I came to pick them up, each piece was in an archival sleeve, carefully taped down by size and sandwiched in cardboard. This made it so much easier to get a selection to the framer for my first solo show. As I begin to encounter collectors, I'm prepared with images for my website as well as print files for people who want work but can't afford an original. Great first experience with large scale digital printing. Dylan and JP were super helpful with options and also my Photoshop file. They ran test strips to help adjust levels. They produced a 56 x 44" digital print that was laminated with matte UV coating and mounted to an aluminum substrate. They also do framing, so the whole thing was floated in a nice black frame. Good, cheap, fast -you can pick any two of the three. It is exceedingly rare to encounter a scenario were in fact you can have them all. Scale Up Fine Art Printing is that rare bird. Their quality is outstanding, their turn around time truly impressive, and their price point very competitive. I was looking to have a 72" x 48" print made. After calling several places around town, they seemed to be the only place capable of accommodating that size. I was impressed by their free sample pack, which I recommend ordering as they offer such a variety of printing mediums. My photo was printed on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Ultra Smooth, and I am thrilled with the results. I don't think I could have received better service if I were Harry Benson himself. read more

5 stars for Scale Up. I've been a customer for a few years, always excellent quality, service, and super easy to work with. For the last project, I sent them a photo of one painting that needed to be printed. JP got back to me and said he cleaned up the image a little bit and fixed the color as well. That was actually a non-trivial amount of work that any other place wouldn't do, but for ScaleUp that was perfectly normal. Multiple times when I screwed up somewhere, the size or the aspect ratio, or the image was imperfect, or resolution or the choices of materials/finish I made that weren't great, every time JP came back with a good recommendation and fixed my own mistakes. They really care about the final product not just "do whatever and collect the money". With any online printing service, I don't think that would be the case. And I've always been happy with the prints made here, impressive quality. (getting to pet Billy, the Pomeranian when you visit them is just the icing on the cake :) read more

The customer service is amazing for the price. I had a high res art image to print to hang on the wall and I wasn't sure the right size or material. JP walked us through several options and even printed some samples on a couple of the materials were were considering. We had originally been thinking of a very large print, but with the samples we realized a small one would be more appropriate. Scale Up is my go to fine art printer in San Francisco. Dylan and JP make prints in a timely manner with professional courtesy and attention to detail. They print iPad drawings for me from digital images on paper and metal. They advised what app to have for better resolution of images which was crucial. The printing on metal does better with darker stronger colors, not pale ones. You must get their explanation for the border cropping of the image for the size metal plate you choose if you want bleed to the edges. If their printing costs more than an online mass printing service, there's a good reason for it - they do a better job. Honestly, the printed images on paper look exactly like the images you see on the screen. The inks and paper are top quality. If you are not an expert yourself on digital printing and dpi (I am not), ask them to explain - you can learn from them how to give them the best file. My photos are snaps of the prints taken with iPhone, not the digital files. read more

The quality of the prints themselves is flawless, true to color and nice finished texture, very impressed with the metal prints; I like that they're quite lightweight but still feel really sturdy. What I found the most valuable was how helpful they were! John-Paul was a great help every step of the way; emailing to ensure the resolution quality of my photos and sending test proofs as needed, very accommodating when I needed to change my order last minute, and made sure my order would reach me in time for my deadline, just plainly very helpful and professional. Impeccable workmanship and excellent customer support by JP and Dylan. I've had artwork scans and metal photo prints done here by them. All were completed with the highest quality and attention to detail. The artwork scans were of drawings on fragile, very old paper. The originals were handled with care and the scan results were fantastic. I found Scale Up when looking for someone local to do the scanning work; this was fortuitous since I had been separately comparing options for metal photo prints. None of the big firms that I found online can offer anything close to the quality and attention to detail that JP and Dylan provide with their fine art services. I typically use another SF shop to get my prints done, but decided to call around to see what else is out there. Things in San Francisco move quickly, and there's constantly new businesses to explore and try. One of the first things I noticed is that the owners are both photography nuts. After scouring the Internet and asking around I came to Scale Up with some of my charcoal and pencil drawings that I needed to add to my online portfolio.
