I purchased a living social coupon and so disappointed on the quality of the end product. So here's the backgroud here....My daughter had a photo session overseas and there was no time for that studio to process all the photos (in order for me to give as X-Mas gifts) so took their high resolution files to Dickermans to PROFESSIONALLY touch up and then make enlarged prints (which is why I purchased the Living Social coupon) of select photos Honestly, I didnt give them clear directions other than please touch up and enhance the photo since they are the experts. I picked up and they didnt even touch up blemishes on my daughters face so I complained and they immediately said they would do again. A few days pass and I pick up the photos and it was so marginal I walked away dissappointed but so many other things to worry about during the holiday season. Why I am writing this now 2 months after X-Mas? I just got the final enhanced photos from the studio overseas and all the images were so polished and so impressed with the quality it put into perspective how little Dickerman did to process my photos. They were very professional about re-processing my order (hence the 2 stars) but all i can think is lazy or unskilled when it comes to touching up high res images I see the positive reviews but it makes me think that they provided lower service since I paid a lower price? I will disclose that I only write reviews when I have a very unsatisfied experience. This is my fourth review. read more

I found this place after frantically searching for a local print shop to print some old family pictures I found. I was gonna see if they could scan them too but I didn't have enough time so I ended up scanning on my own cheapie scanner and brought them in. I called them up the day before and asked them a bunch of basic questions but never once were they rude and they answered all my questions!! I came in with all my photos prepped and organized onto the canvas size I needed and worked on their workstations to prepare the final print. Their monitors are calibrated and I had no problems getting everything I needed done. Their staff is super helpful and awesome! When the print came out, I was just blown away! I would have done a second print, but I didn't need so many of the same pictures LOL! Super high quality prints and then I cut them out myself using their paper cutter. I was in and out within 10 minutes :). I can't wait to come back here for all my future photo projects!! read more

Dickerman Prints is the best business of its kind in the Bay Area, or perhaps all of the West. It offers state of the art workstations for those who want to do the photographic printing themselves, but has on hand a knowledgeable staff, headed by master photographer and printer Seth Dickerman, who can either print for you, or help you do what you want. It's a pleasant space to work in, and there are occasional photographic exhibits on the walls. The owner and staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the place is open a goodly amount of time. Seth is convivial and works well with photographers, amateur or professional, to help them achieve their goals. The place also works on bulk orders, for magazines and journals and offers full-service for a range of professional or personal applications. It's in a funky neighborhood with good cafes and restaurants and shops nearby. read more

If I could give these guys 2 million stars, I would! They go way above and beyond standard customer service. I purchased a daily deal voucher to have a regular digital photo enlarged to 20"x30". I sent in my picture and after having some confusion about the upload, sent them an email. They very promptly replied that they had everything they needed and were working on the enlargement. Then they emailed back that the picture was looking a bit 'pixelated' and that I could to go to the NASA website to find a larger one as a starting point (it was a space picture from the Hubble). I couldn't find what a bigger one on the NASA website and emailed them to just go ahead and I'd live with the pixelation. About an hour later, they emailed that *they* had gone to the site, found a better version, had enlarged it and I could pick it up any time. These guys obviously care about their work and want you to be totally satisfied with your final product. I highly recommend them. read more

In California, even if the promotional value expires, I can still apply the amount I used to a purchase. Since no one has gotten back to me, it makes me feel like what a scam that deal was. I was referred here by a friend so I could print out a couple photographs. I literally have zero experience with photoshop. Gabriel was unbelievably helpful with each step of the process. He explained the pricing options and told me that print on demand was my best bet. And although p.o.d. means you do it yourself, he talked me through everything while I clicked around cropping/resizing/etc. I really felt like he went above and beyond what could be expected and as a result I will absolutely be coming back to use their facilities. read more

My only hesitation in reviewing Dickerman is that it could suddenly be overrun with business and I'd have to start booking workstations far in advance. Dickerman is a 'digital darkroom' you bring your files, you get a workstation with photoshop and lightroom, process your images and send them straight to the printer. What you see on the monitor is what you see in the print. You have total control, it's awesome and it's affordable. The best. read more

Before going to Dickerman's, I had no idea how to print my photography and I was quite intimidated. When I walked in the first time I needed to complete a job, I was offered coffee and a workstation and the advice and know-how of the staff. When I finally saw my first print, I couldn't believe my eyes. Wow. Dickermans provides a great workspace and all of the studio tools needed to print your work and prepare it for matting or shipping. This is a real art studio and now the only place I go to print my work. I no longer feel intimidated in the realm of printing because I know that Dickermans has me covered. read more

I've been meaning to write this for a while, but life got in the way. I called Dickerman prints back in Sept in a panic because I had naively used the discount online site of a local office supply store to have a large banner made for a memorial service with a photo of the deceased loved one. The banner was fine, but the photo was horrible, very red. I had picked the banner up just a day or two before the memorial and didn't have time to have it redone and was really disappointed because I didn't think I would be able to use it, but called and spoke with Gabriel on the off chance that something could be done. Gabriel was really wonderful, and especially sympathetic because I had lost my friend. He took the photograph and agreed to try to reproduce it in the size that would fit the banner so that I could glue it over the old picture, although he couldn't make any promises. The next morning I went back and the picture was ready, looking just beautiful. He had had to do color adjustments and fit the printing in to their time frame for that type of printing, but I so appreciated his being willing to go above and beyond to help me make our memorial so special. And he didn't gouge me on the price, although he certainly could have and I would have paid the price. I learned a lot about "you get what you pay for" and if I ever need to have anything printed again, would cut out all the pain and go right to Dickerman! read more

Had my most treasured color slides scanned here, with good quality results. That was all I wanted; but couldn't help but notice the wonderful framed pictures. I had a painting on canvas that I still had to get framed, and although I'd planned to take it to Cheap Peets to look for a frame to do it myself, I ended up having Dickerman's frame it for me. The right decision! I'm not a professional, but I got professional treatment and better results than I would have (and have) gotten elsewhere. read more

Printing at Dickerman is a joy- seriously. It's clean, organized, the monitors and printers are expertly color calibrated. They have Mac work-stations and serve complimentary espresso! (Can't beat that). The staff is very professional and friendly- they know their craft and take the time to help you with yours when you need it. Gabriel was extremely rude to my rookie questions. He was not really helpful no matter how many questions I have asked. Once we finally were able to come to some term I end up getting service that I didn't even request. I will admit as a rookie in photography world that I expect to make certain mistakes and possibly ask the wrong question, but I expect personnel to guide me and be helpful. At the end I got a feeling that Gabriel can't wait for me to leave his store. I am never rude so its hard to understand where he was coming for. I didn't know that such places existed. I wanted to print a lot of pictures and showed up with a thumb drive. The staff showed me how to use photoshop to improve the images, and I spent hours on their computer tinkering with them. They printed them within an hour and I was very happy with the quality. They also scanned some pictures for me, and the price was perfectly reasonable. It looks like this place is great for those who know little about photography (like me) and for those far more skilled. I can't recommend Dickerman highly enough. We were on a very tight time-frame, need to leave for LA in under 24 hours and had to have an archive quality very important custom digital artwork printed. He helped us understand and choose just the right archival, acid free paper with just the right amount of texture. Although everybody there was great, in particular I can say Gabriel went above and beyond what I would have expected. When I mentioned there was a small visual flaw in the file our artist provided, which I was intending to try to fix my end in Photoshop, he offered--and recommended--that we let him handle it to insure there was no degradation in image quality. He fixed it masterfully, and the final print was simply stunning. Prints of this type have to dry for close to 24 hours, and unbelievably all was worked out on our tight time frame. It was clear to me why so many artists and high-end photographers use Dickerman. A joy to work with them. read more

You should know that I have zero Mac experience and very limited Photoshop skills and prefer a wet darkroom to a digital one so I was nervous going here by myself without any previous instruction. But I just started a huge project and needed to get part one finished asap and was told by one of my instructors that the print on demand service is quick and easy. I only had 30 minutes and 12 images on a memory stick and wasn't sure I could pull it off. I was wrong. They were super duper nice and walked me through the whole process from start to finish. In no time at all I was able to put my images on a huge 30x42 print. The resolution and quality is great and they have nice mat cutters, white gloves and envelopes (and the place is immaculate). My 12 images cost me $80 or roughly $7 a print which is pretty darn reasonable. I can see why it was recommended and will be back for more. Street parking sucks but there is a UCSF lot on Shotwell that's only $2 for an hour and there are always spaces available. read more
