A bit disappointed with our last trip to Dicky's Barbecue Pit in Kapolei. I've eaten here before and enjoyed this decent BBQ spot, but not this time. The brisket and ribs were dry and the beans felt about room temperature. The cashier was trying to be helpful, even wanting to customize my order but got some push back from the kitchen. I just wanted a half rack of ribs instead of the normal portion of 4 pieces, but the cashier was overruled. ***The plus side was that their restroom was a single and was excellently cleaned. I also enjoyed the soda fountain that you could make different flavor combinations. Refillable drinks are amazing in this Summer heat. #bigboyproblems

Two meat and two sides and Texas toast, with a side of a rib

This is not the Dickey's I remember. I went to two locations in California years ago and enjoyed the food. But times have changed. The prices are higher, and the portions smaller. I'll start with the sides. I got delivery, which took a long time because of traffic, and I believe that affected the quality of the mashed potatoes. They were a gluey lump, but they still tasted okay. The green beans were bacon were terrible - the green beans were overcooked and the bacon was nearly non-existent. But someone dumped a ton of pepper on it, so for me, it was inedible. The baked beans were fine. It came with Texas toast but you get only half a slice these days. Now for the meat. The smoked ham was good but way too salty. One expects ham to be salty, but not this much. The rib was good. The sliced brisket was fine, although nearly to the point of getting dried out. I asked for original BBQ sauce and got nothing. I appreciated that the sauce was on the side but it only works if they actually pack the sauce. I also got a pulled pork sandwich. It was small and smashed down, and meh. They did have great 2-for-1 deals I took advantage of, so I saved a lot of money. But the quality just wasn't there.

As a self proclaimed BBQ judge , I've eaten my way through smokehouses across the country, and Dickey's in Kapolei truly stands out. The brisket here is competition level perfection, clean smoke ring, and tender with just the right bite. Ribs are textbook, pulling cleanly from the bone without falling apart, and the pulled pork is moist with just the right mix of bark pieces. Even the sides are dialed in, especially the green beans and mac & cheese. And don't skip dessert, the owner recommended the pecan pie which is rich, nutty, and the perfect sweet finish to a BBQ feast. He was right!! Service is top-notch: the team is friendly, quick, and clearly proud of what they serve. The Kapolei location adds its own island warmth and aloha spirit, giving it a family vibe that sets it apart from other chain restaurants. Consistently excellent, great portions, and fair prices....this Dickey's proves that chain BBQ can deliver the real deal when done right. If you're in Kapolei and craving authentic Texas-style BBQ with a local touch, this is the place.

Brisket, chicken , sausage , loaded baked potato, Mac and cheese

First time trying this place, and I was honestly a little disappointed. The chicken was very dry, and the brisket was chewy, making both meats difficult to enjoy. The sausage was probably the best part of the plate--it had good flavor. The mac and cheese and potato salad were okay, but nothing that really stood out. I was hoping for more based on the reputation, but unfortunately this visit didn't live up to my expectations. I might give them another try someday, but this first experience wasn't impressive.

I can always count on Dickey's for a delicious, filling meal that hits the spot every single time! Today I treated myself to the one-meat plate, and let me tell you... it did not disappoint. I went with double potato salad because it's truly that good and honestly one of my favorite sides ever. I topped it off with their sweet BBQ sauce (my go-to!) and that warm, perfectly soft corn muffin that just completes the whole meal.

Haven't come here in a long time but we always loved the brisket. Unfortunately my serving of brisket (which is $1.25 extra) was dry and needed sauce for flavor. I enjoyed the fried okra but the bbq beans that is supposed to have bacon in it had absolutely no bacon in it. The service was great though.

Ordered take out and it wasn't the best bbq I've had. The amount of meat we got was ridiculously small for the price. 1 star for the extra bbq sauce they gave on the side and the fried okra. Plenty of okra given and it was good.

YES Dickey's is back and better than ever! The staff were friendly and food was Amazing! I ordered the half rack rib plate and the ribs were THICC and juicy. I couldn't decide which of the 8 bbq sauces to get so I bought extra for $0.50 each to try three of them (Original was my favorite). If dining in they have a nice open and clean dinning area. I saw online on sunday kids eat free with an adult plate so will be back then. So grateful to have an amazing Texas BBQ place on the west side again!

$20 for this?! Pictures on their menus are deceiving folks beware. And they forgot my bbq sauce.

Visited again and loved the food as always! Mac and cheese, fries and brisket never misses. Always a winner, and the staff were so kind and accommodating. Also tried the pecan pie this time and LOVED it! Will always be back :)

Ask the Community - Dickey's Barbecue Pit

Do kids still eat free on Sundays?

Do they have the free soft serve ice cream?

    yes

    Do they serve rice?

    Yes

Does anyone know if their phone works or if they take phone orders? Tried to call numerous times and it rings and rings...then it says "Remote Access code needed at the end."

Late October 2018, I have personally witnessed the phone ringing while workers behind the counter winked at each other saying, "I don't hear anything, do you?"

So is there table service or must I order at a window after standing in line?

You would order at the window and then grab a table :)

Both orders were more normal-sized portions and slightly cheaper than the normal entrees. The Bruleed French Toast was light and fluffy, with a decent amount of custard flavor. The Fried Chicken and Waffles Benedict came with two quarters of belgian waffles with two chicken tenders on each. The chicken tenders were very juicy and the hollandaise sauce added the perfect richness. There's also a butterscotchy syrup which went surprisingly well with the chicken and hollandaise sauce. The staff are friendly and we got seated almost immediately. We went at 11:30am, right before the crowds. Our server Tommy was very attentive to us checking in with us multiple times and even after we paid the check. We were hoping to get a second serving of bread, but our entrees arrived really fast. So by the time we finished our entrees, we told Tommy to cancel the second order of bread since we got too full. Tommy was nice enough to add bread to our to-go bag! There's also tons of free parking at Kamakana Alii! So it's not as stressful of a time as the Waikiki location. So far, I've never had to hunt for parking when I come here. CONS: The brunch portions are more "normal entree" size, but I kinda wish they were a little more elegantly plated. No real garnishes other than a sprig of mint on the french toast. The waffles were quite mid, but everything on top really saved it. My Fried Chicken and Waffles came with a side of fries which were room temp by the time we got it. The free bread was also cold and the sourdough loaf was pretty tough to chew. We must've gotten the last pieces of the batch and were hoping to get fresher bread. We also wanted to order the Chicken Parmesan Pizza Style, but realized that neither Hawaii locations serve it. That was really disappointing and most likely there are other items on the normal menu that aren't available in Hawaii. OVERALL: I much prefer this location over the Waikiki location. Parking is plentiful, staff are attentive and we haven't had to wait to be seated. Service is fast and friendly and the food was pretty good. Bread freshness is a hit or miss, but we've liked the entrees available. I wish they offered the complete Cheesecake Factory menu, but I'm not surprised that things are different in Hawaii.

Very flavorful, but not as juicy as I would like it. Bun was crisp, bacon added an extra touch to the burger making it more than average, delicious! __________________________________________________ Captain Messy Hands, Keeper of the Drip: 7/10 stepping into the smash burger arena for the very first time. Ordered the Village Smash Burger Double Angus patties, cracked pepper crust, mustard, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onions, American cheese, and their signature Village sauce. This thing came out looking clean, sharp, and locked in. First bite? I finally understood the smash burger hype. The patties were thin, crispy around the edges, and perfectly executed the way a smash burger should be. That cracked pepper crust gave every bite a nice little punch, and the sear on the beef carried the whole experience. No sloppy grill work here! This burger knew exactly what it wanted to be. Now let's address The drip. Or in this case... the lack of it. This burger leaned more dry than messy. Not Sahara desert dry and not dry in a bad way, just controlled. Precise. Balanced. The bun actually deserves respect here because it stayed soft, moist, and held together from first bite to last bite without collapsing under pressure. Structurally elite. But CMH lives for chaos. I like burgers that need a stack of napkins nearby. Burgers where sauce hits the wrist. Burgers that fight back. This wasn't that type of burger. And honestly? I still respect it. Final Verdict...A clean, well executed smash burger with serious crust game. Not a drippy monster, but a strong introduction to the smash burger world. __________________________________________________ The Premium Purists: 9.5/10 The Village Smash Burger is a trendy modern burger that still hits with nostalgic deluxe flavors. I was very impressed by this burger. To me it was luxury in every bite! The balance of flavors from the beef, seasoning, sauce and LTO was on point. Buns stayed solid throughout the entire experience. It's a smash so the patties were a little drier but to me the flavors made up for the lack of juice.
