No matter how busy this place is they always execute very well. It's nice to see a place that can handle a kids eat free special and still keep it clean and being friendly. Best jalepeno sausage I've had!! Must stop by if in Topeka.

Dickeys is my favorite restaurant. I love everything about it. Typically I get their fried okra or baked potato casserole sides with whatever meat I feel like eating that day. Their Mac stacks are also amazing and so are their Bakers (giant baked potatoes with toppings). Love the big cups changing colors by month recently. I missed the pink one in October and I was so mad. Good thing yellow is my favorite color download the app too so you can start getting points. If I ever need to cater this will be my place. Also Jeremiah is my favorite dude at this shop he is always so friendly and upbeat. I love seeing him when I go in.

Brisket, sausage, spinach, onion straws and Budweiser. That feels pretty Kansas to me.

Pretty good chain affair in a location where there isn't a whole lot to choose from. Closely located to the Holiday Inn and Suites (walking distance). The food was good and filling. Brisket was smoked well, sausage was forgettable, onion straws and spinach to round it out. Budweiser to wash it down. Liked the free DIY ice cream machine against the wall. In touch...so I helped myself to seconds. Then promptly headed back to the hotel to crash.

The smell outside is enough to make just about anyone's mouth water. Inside is casual and laid back - and smells even better. This is one of our quick lunch spots and we've been there a half-dozen times. The pulled pork sandwich is plenty - add in a side order of anything to split between my husband and myself and we're stuffed. Get a full meal and you'll be rolling out. This is fast-food barbecue. Not rock-your-boots incredible, but will satisfy if you need a fix. And, the free ice cream at the end of the meal doesn't hurt either. My one main complaint is the ordering counter is way too tall. I'm 5'2" and I feel like I'm peeking over the edge to talk to they guys back there and I feel like I have to yell at them for them to hear me over the tall glass - so, my 6'2" tall husband usually does the ordering. :) Problem solved. But, I doubt I'd go here alone and try to dine, because of that.

This pulled pork "taco" was amazing!!! Loved the coleslaw on it. Perfect mix of flavors.

Always get great service when we go there. Prices are reasonable, especially on Sundays when the kiddos eat free. Tried their new Pulled Pork Tacos yesterday and they were AMAZING. Will definitely go back. We tend to get there about once a month or so even though the location is quite a distance from our house. We drive past 2 or 3 other BBQ places to get there.

Garbage/grease barrels next to take out order board. Poorly designed area...Not that appetizing.

Not a fan... typical chain restaurant with mediocre BBQ. I can compete and several BBQ competitions a year and this is not competition BBQ.

The restaurant is located at the top of a narrow staircase (there may be an elevator but we didn't see one). You place your order at a walk-up counter. The gentleman who took our order was very friendly and helped us decipher the menu. We both ordered the brisket sandwich. My husband got a platter with the beans and cheesy potatoes. I got the smaller plate with potato salad. The brisket was "shredded" which is not how I am used to on a BBQ brisket sandwich. It was really dry and honestly didn't have much of a smoked flavor. I put sauce on it, but didn't really care for the taste of that either. I would describe it as sweet Heinz 57 sauce. The potato salad was nothing exceptional but tasted fine. Same with my husband's cheesy potatoes. However the BBQ beans were exceptional! Probably some of the best I have ever had. They were rich and sweet with chunks of meat. I wish I had ordered a plate of those! Overall, I wouldn't really recommend Black Dog Bar B Que. But if you go, be sure you order the beans!

The chicken however was like rubber. I ate half a small piece and put the rest to the side. My husband had the Pulled Pork platter which is normally good. The meat was really dry. I ate all the pasta and told our server about the chicken being like rubber and she stated that she's mentioned that exact thing to the cooks but that maybe if a customer complains they would possibly listen. What made me a little annoyed though was that I ate none of the chicken yet they didn't at least bump off a few bucks off my meal. The service was fine but I feel like over the years this has become my last choice versus my first choice.

Ordered the brisket sandwich & baked beans with a side order of corn bread. It was good but just didn't blow me away, but was satisfying. The owners were very pleasant and willing to help out with the menu. The beans were rather lackluster and the corn bread was served cold. I arrived at 1:00 PM, which I learned is too late to get ribs or brisket, since the locals buy all of it for lunch. Also out chicken breasts. I didn't want pulled pork, so I had a dry chicken thigh and a juicy beef link, which was clearly the highlight of the meal. The sides could have used seasoning and the gumbo was too watery. The person taking orders should do a better job guiding people through the confusing ordering process. Repeating the statement, "If it has a green tag next to it, that means we are out of it" seemed to become a little rude. I watched an older guy spend 10 minutes trying to figure out what he could order. Two other customers walked out. All I could do was laugh at the comedy skit between the customer and the owner. Also, if the order allows two sides, why can't both of them be yams? There seemed to be a policy against getting two of the same side even when the order comes with two sides. Although not a big deal, but I smelled like a BBQ pit when I left. Felt unsatisfied, I so I went to a small chain BBQ place to get ribs and brisket. The lesson is to get there early for ribs and brisket.
