Last night I came here for my 2nd time. My dad is a hunter, so I wanted him to be able to get an Elk burger. I had called and they'd warned that they might be out and that their next featured meat would be Dork (duck and pork). That wouldn't do, but we'd go in and risk them having some elk left. This review is more about experience than it is about quality of food. I ordered online for a pickup. I was running 10 minutes behind and walked into Dicks and up to the spot where you pick up take-out (there is even a sign that says "take out" right above where I was standing). I must have had a deer in headlights look on my face and the cook looked at me and said "what" and i said "what?", "I am here for a pick up" and I pointed to the sign above me. He looked so agitated and put off that I almost left but I had already paid for the food. Another person came up to me and asked me for my name and told me the order would be ready soon they were just firing the fries. I thought "cool, made to order" but the fries were soggy and not very good. I told the second person that I also ordered a milkshake and he said "do you want that now?" and at that point I was like "I am here to pick up my food that should have been ready 10 minutes ago and yes, I want it now." Well, when I drove by I saw a neon sign displaying a burger surrounded by flames. I assumed their burgers were flame broiled. 1st mistake. So, my wife and I went in, she ordered the salmon burger and sweet potato fries.she stated they were excellent! I had the brokeback burger with regular fries , the fries were great, crunchy and hot, the house made ranch dressing was the best I've tasted yet . The burger on the other hand was cold, undercooked and tasted and looked like a machine made it. I, on hindsight should've sent it back for more cooking,it might've helped. Plus it was cooked, fried on a flattop. I was hoping for flame cooked, next time I will call ahead to any burger joint to double-checked . My bad. Next time. I got glutened by this place. It is supposed to have lots of gluten free options, which it does. But the kitchen got my order wrong -- I'm celiac so it makes me sick for two weeks! There are two chicken options, one gluten free and the other not, and they gave me the wrong one and I didn't notice until I had already eaten some of the burger. Not what you expect for a $20 burger. I didn't even bother to call because why would I, the owners can find out about it here. There were some things I noticed when I went there as well covid related. First, there was a staff person without a mask who put it back on when I came in the door (she was sitting at a table but clearly worked there, may have been a delivery driver.) Second I saw someone come in from the back who worked in the kitchen come in the back door with his mask down around his chin, which he pulled up quickly, maybe just when he saw me, I'm not sure. But then here is the thing ... THe woman behind the counter was putting my food in a bag. I was getting fries, and as she was doing so, some fell out of the container onto her shirt, but she caught them there between her shirt and the container. THEN she used her fingers to try to push the ones on her shirt back into the container! The fries fell to the floor so it was all good -- her fingers didn't touch my food, but it was NOT covid appropriate. The gluten thing is pretty egregious. Firstly, I'm not sure why I was asked if "medium rare" was ok when I placed my order when ultimately I would just be given a chewy, dry, over cooked piece of cardboard. Secondly, at $8.25 for a patty, dressing and bun - the patty should definitely be as thick as the bottom bun. I love that the beef is grass-fed and humanely raised, I do, but what's the point when it amounts to little more than a bun that tastes like a hint of meat? I'll give you kudos for the slaw though. 100%. That was the only saving grace of the meal. My boyfriend had the venison burger, which he found a bit bland. He says "it was ok." I am usually a fan of the counter service situation but it is only effective in a café because people already know what they want or a taco stand because there are only a few options. This place has too much going on the menu for anyone to make their choice in an effective amount of time, especially when this place is asking you about gluten free buns and other irrelevant options I doubt concern you. Meanwhile, you've been in line for 10 minutes (yet only one order has been taken off the queue), you've had plenty of time to figure out what you want but too bad because there are two families ahead of you and the kids weren't paying attention and now need to squint up at the menu and burn another 15 minutes by asking questions like: "what's a balsamic reduction, daddy?" I really don't like writing negative reviews. But, this place is garbage and is probably taking business away from the way better places that have been in the community for years. I have been here enough times to have had all the burgers a few times and they are all wack. The Zizou burger is the only one worth your time, but again there are way better burgers 2 blocks down at Lutz. It supports a multitude of diets - your Keto friends are in Heaven, your vegan friends want those milkshakes, and everyone else can find something pleasing. I love the burger salad, which makes me feel like I'm eating vegetables and generally have made a healthy decision, even if there's a full size burger patty taking up residence. I've also enjoyed turkey burgers here. Veggie friends have thumbed up the veggie patty. The service I've gotten here has been friendly and pleasant. I like Clear Mind kombucha on tap. The premise is great - you get a well-priced, high quality burger made of different proteins (beef, venison, veggie, etc) and then pick the way you eat it: bun, salad, lettuce wrap, etc. I'm simplifying the choices a bit, but that's the gist. I enjoyed my beef patty with a Cobb Salad...the beef in place of chicken was a nice change, and an option I wish I had more often.
