I guess you have to be a dick to work at dicks. Selection is pretty decent for a typical sporting goods store. The associates that work at this location are all a bit off though. This Dick's Sporting Goods is managed horribly. I was told upon taking my golf club for repair that the vendor generally takes care of the repairs for free and that I would only have to pay the S&H. After a month of failing to get in touch with me after losing my number, claiming the one they called was the only one on file, I was charged an extra $20 for the cost of repair without any indication that these would be the costs when I handed over my club. The manager, Val, would not reason with me whatsoever and was quite frankly very rude throughout the process. No understanding of my situation was taken into consideration. I'd look elsewhere for sporting equipment if at all possible, the service here does not come close to what it should be for a company like Dick's. read more

I can say that I truly miss Sport Chalet! I am hating the fact that DICKS will be going into the Del Amo mall. This El Segundo location is AWFUL! It's always my last resort and I dread it! Poor customer service and knowledge. The females working there tonight were by far the worst...passive aggressive and wanting the last word on everything. This venue is great! They are located in a large plaza with neighboring business, so parking is never a hard to find. Upon entrance, the venue offers a wide array of items to look at. I mainly came here for the golf equipment, but you can find pretty much any outdoor activity or sport equipment here. Staff was very limited, I don't know if that was because I came on a weekday, but overall, there were enough people to help guide me where I needed to go. All items displayed on racks on counters looked well organized and maintained, I didn't see any items that were incorrectly labeled or mixed up from a different section, which means the staff here does a good job! I've been here before to get some golf clubs regripped, and the golf pro here is great! He is very knowledgeable and can help you get anything. He was able to complete my regripping in less than an hour! I was pretty impressed. This venue is great and I recommend any sports athlete or enthusiast to come here! read more

Right. I know this place is like "the man" of Sporting Goods shops. Totally corporate and totally sterile. Really not the kind of place I normally like to shop (I'm more of a boutique, funky, independent online shopper etc....) but I needed the basics, so that's where I came. I live right in the mid-Wilshire area and schleped to the location in El Segundo because they had the best price for a mountain bike online or anywhere else I looked. I would have ordered the bike from them online, but it was 80 dollars more expensive. And, if you go into the shop and buy right there, they offer free tech work on the bike (and free assembly) which would normally cost you about $50 bucks if you took the bike to another shop. Yes, I thought it was odd that online was $80 dollars pricier, but I wanted the bike fitted to my specs anyway and the journey was worth it for the free technician. But here's the best part---I guess each independent shop has their own prices--because the exact same bike selling on their online site was actually selling in-store for $299.99 not $380! AND...Amazon was selling this sucker for $451 bucks and I'd have to put it together. I also liked that there was a actually shop front that I could take the bike to if any issues arose. Imagine packing up a bike to send back to the manufacturer! Okay, so I spoke to the loveliest dude Robert on the phone and told him I didn't live around the corner and could he hold the bike for me. He went the extra mile and even gave me the serial number of the bike so I'd know it was the one he gave a once over that was A-okay. I arrive at Dick's, located in a really sterile shopping mall (aren't they all...well, the Grove is just nuts....but malls aren't what they used to be, eh? No Mallrats action here!) and was greeted several times without being annoyed. The store was clean---it even smelled clean---and was directed to the back of the shop where the bikes where. Immediately a nice guy patiently answered all my questions, put the bike on a stand and went over a checklist to make sure all was working, and let me ride the bike to make sure it was a good feel and proper fit. He was also extremely patient about going over the accessories I wanted to buy with it. He had to go, but then Nate (another lovely young guy) took over and was really in-the-know. He wasn't pushy (none of them works on commission) and was dead honest about what I was getting re: my purchase. He went the extra mile and fitted the accessories to the bike sans charge. I go to pay, it's fast and easy, and I immediately receive a free "sports card" which accrues points that add up to money. They said I already earned ten bucks or so just on that purchase. Would I schlep all the way to El Segundo again for loyalty--not unless my bike needed tweaking. But I would recommend this store because of the cleanliness, their helpfulness, their friendliness and their amount of wares. I did buy the $46, 2 year warranty, but with the cheaper in-store savings price, free bike tech savings and $10 points earnings, it paid for itself. The only thing I'd say is that if you can buy online check to see if they have the same product in a particular retail store first. It might be cheaper. I will say---there are NO RETURNS on bikes....but their warranty is pretty damned solid (I read all the fine print) though I cannot comment if they are decent about honoring it as I haven't made a claim. Look, I didn't ask much of the guys. I knew the bike I wanted and they had it in stock. Not so sure how savvy they would have been had I just walked in an needed guidance for buying a bike. Evidently, they have this kid genius, "Erin" who is the bike tech and knows all about bikes. Maybe see him if you are planning to peruse and don't know what you're looking for. Really crappy experience @ Dick's I was over-charged on both items I purchased!! I caught the first one at the register and wasn't even given an "I'm sorry". I noticed that the second over-charge on my way out of the store. As I went back in I was rudely told that "the line starts over there". When I explained that I was overcharged on both items the cashier agreed to do a refund. Very sketchy operation. Be sure to check your receipt!! read more

I won't ever return to Dick's. Horrible customer service! They never have the running shoes I want. Prices are high. I dont' mind paying retail if it includes good customer service. I don't understand how a major retailer can be so poorly run. I can never find anyone to help me and this is especially true in the shoe department. During my second to last visit, I had to chase the staff down in the back room of the shoe department TWICE where they were hanging out chatting and sipping water from their sports bottles. They looked at me with absolute disdain for actually expecting them to help me. On my final trip to Dick's, I returned a pair of running shoes with my receipt TWO DAYS after I purchased them and was treated like a ciminal. The shoes were recommended by their staff after my 1st, 2nd & 3rd choices were not available. I had walked around my livingroom and front yard to see if the shoes would be cushioning enough for a supinating shoe (they were not). Apparently, there was one microscopic piece of grass - I kid you not - on the bottom of the shoe and the cashier determined from this that "these shoes were worn." I explained I had merely walked around in them - she cut me off and in a very argumentive and rude tone and said they were "used" and they do not accept used shoes but she would make an exception this time. How generous of her. Dick's clearly hate their customers. They treat them like steaming dog poo. Lucky for me, I discovered TOP TO TOP in Santa Monica for running shoes and other supplies. TOP TO TOP are AWESOME!!! Their staff are always available to answer questions and are super knowledgeable. You can return your purchases for a full refund 1-week after purchase or within 30-days for a store credit. THAT is how customer service is supposed to be. read more

There are so many sporting goods stores closing down close to our house that we decided to drive to El Segundo. It was supposed to be a quick 10-15 min shopping trip since we only wanted to buy shoes for our boys. Big mistake! The people who were in charge in the shoe department didn't get it right. They were not even busy and we had to wait over 10 minutes for an attendant. Finally we told an attendant the model and sizes of the shoes my kids chose. After over 10 min, the attendant came back with the wrong sizes! What? We gave them the sizes again and he never came back. After we complained to the manager, another person came to help us and finally told us that they were out of the shoes we wanted. What a waste of our time! We will not go back to that store again. Our 15 min shopping trip turned into a 40 min nightmare. We had great service in a Las Vegas Dick's location. I hope the store opening soon in Torrance will have better service. read more

My boyfriend stopped at this store while on our trip in LA & wanted these Jordan baseball cleats, but there was none in his size. He asked the clerk and automatically he said all other Dick's Sporting Goods near by did not have it. He didn't bother looking it up on the computer or make calls (not even trying to express any concerns or interest in helping). So I suggested to my bf to call the nearest store & when he did, the guy at the footwear department in Santa Clarita, CA suggested that we ask a manager. We found the manager, Steve Lynn & he made miracles happen. He researched on his phone and called & found a store that had the right size! So we purchased the cleats at the store & Steve said that they will UPS it to our address! Excellent customer service! Be sure to ask for Steve Lynn if you have any concerns when shopping here. He saved his employees at the footwear department from getting a bad review. 5 stars for the manager & no stars for his footwear department employees. read more

The name says it all, the employees of dicks definitely are. Two days later and I'm still upset about my experience at Dick's El Segundo. Having recently signed my six year old daughter up for Hermosa Beach little league Dick's seemed like the logical choice to go purchase her first glove, bat and a few baseballs to start practicing for the upcoming season. The trip to Dicks became a family outing with my wife and daughters 4 and 6. The store does have a large inventory of sporting goods and athletic apparel. We did have great time selecting our baseball gear my wife found a couple sweatshirts she couldn't live without, now the easy part paying for our items. As we approached the front counter there was a customer in the middle of her transaction and four other employees standing behind the counter, a woman behind the counter who appeared to be of a manager type position told us the line forms over there in a rude aggressive tone, with no other customers in sight my wife responded your joking right? To which she responded no ma'am I'm not and walked away, as we headed to the designated "line" another customer walked up behind us and they took her right away, frustrated with the service my wife asked another 2 employees behind the counter if they could help us?one walked away tho other smugly responded I'm in training ma'am! He then proceeded to stare at us as if we were trying to steal something, at this point I was ready to put the items back and walk out, we decided to purchase the baseball equipment to avoid a tear filled car ride to sport chalet but did put the sweatshirts back. A couple fake smiles a friendly tone and pretending to give a sh*t go a long way in customer service. We won't go back. read more

Thank you so much Dicks for selling me the "no sweat protection plan". When I was sold the plan I was told "If you have this you will not have to deal with the manufacturer warranty, just bring it back to us, no questions asked" ("No sweat" get it?). Without this plan I would never have been able to visit your store and be told "your item is still covered under the manufacturer warranty, you will have to contact them". So I drive back home (Luckily gas, insurance and maintenance on my car is free from the car fairy) and log onto the "No sweat" website and it is confirmed, even though my "return item to store" store period is NOT expired, I am directed to return the item to THE PHUCKING MANUFACTURER (!) so that they can see if it eligible for a claim. So I call the store (where I purchased these $140 sunglasses that are literally falling apart, despite the fact that I am always very careful with them) and ask to speak to a manager and I tell her ( I doubt she was actually a manager) about my problem. I explain to her that the manufacturer warranty and "NO EFFING SWEAT" protection plan are both 1 year periods, so if Dicks will not let me return or replace them, what is the point of the warranty? I know the exact point of the warranty, the warranty is just like the phony extended warranty programs you see on TV. The word is "scam". Now my "No Sweat" protection plan has expired, I have some POS sunglasses and they have my money. I do not expect anyone from Dicks to read this and respond. Not responding will just prove my point. It means they have nobody to read their online reviews and address customer service concerns. Thanks again for all of your amazing help. read more

I went to the store today to exchange some birthday gifts I'd been given that didn't fit well. First impression is the store looks good. And there are tons of staff with green shirts on walking back and forth across the floor. I was never asked if I needed help with anything. I actually felt when I made eye contact with one of them, that they couldn't turn away fast enough and go somewhere else. Then I had a problem getting a store credit. I didn't have a gift receipt or the original receipt, but all the clothes were intact with labels still attached. The cashier gave me an in-store credit for the value. I looked at the receipt and was very surprised by the amounts. I questioned why they seemed so low and was told that when you don't have any receipts, they credit you with the lowest price that item ever sold at. Wow, that seemed weird, since my son purchased this stuff within the last week. NOW...as I was trying to make the point to the cashier, who was very nice, by the way, but told me basically, that her hands were tied, another "green shirt" young lady that I had first asked for help, slipped behind me and into the Manager's office and out he came. The young lady, named Sara Simon, had gone to get a decision maker on my behalf. And without being asked. The Manager, Steve Delis, listened to the situation and addressed it immediately, raising the store credit back to what it should have been. Up to this final encounter, I felt the service policy for the store, was "No Service". BUT.... After dealing with Sara and Steve, I was impressed enough to want to write this Review. So, fellow shoppers, the store is nice, the bulk of the staff seem nice enough personally, like your next door neighbor, but not very service minded. I think most of them will be looking for new employment soon. I hope Sara stays and having dealt with Steve the Manager, I hope he stays too (this is only his first month as Manager). If Steve stays and Sara stays and they upgrade the staff, I think word will spread and they'll do well. SO, if you find yourself in Dick's shopping and you're having a problem, cut to the chase and look for Sara or ask for Steve. And that should cut the red tape to ribbons. Bruce B. Torrance read more

Went in for a new bat for my son, we found the bats easy enough but they were locked up so he couldn't really get the feel of any one in particular. We looked for help... Crickets.... We found a help button pressed it and got someone from a different department.. They called for someone else... Crickets... Finally the guy comes my son asks to see a bat the guy unlocks it then walks away... Freakin hell this bat costs $300! He didn't give my son another option to look at other bats before he was gone. For that amount of money I would have liked a sales person to actually stick around to see if we wanted to see other bats or at least see if we even wanted that bat. My wife had a coupon from a rewards program so I decided to give this store a try. Costumer service was mediocre... Terrible running shoe selection. What styles I did like didn't come in my size (11). Seems the product range might be too wide, they should specialize in a narrower spectrum and do it well instead of being just alright in many different categories. I purchased 2 youth pink life vests. I was in the store and had the store manager do the order for me online so there would be no issue because I was purchasing two of them to take advantage of this buy one get one free deal. When the life vests were sent to me I was sent pink ones, but they were in the style of the yellow ones, not the pink one shown on the website. When I called the store they told me that I needed to return them with the prepaid return label. when I called customer service for my online order the lady didn't even care to listen to what my dilemma was. She told me she had no idea what I received when I tried to tell her that if she looked online I could easily describe what happened. She was horrible so I asked for a supervisor which I got. Eric the supervisor finally came on the line and promised me that he would call me the next day. He was going to check the warehouse to see if the pink one that they are advertising, which is still on the website, is actually available or if that was an old model. This was Friday, and I should have heard from Eric the supervisor on Saturday and now it is Monday evening and still nothing. Clearly they knew that I had no recourse because all I know is the supervisors name, so now I have to go back to the store to return the life vests that my daughters were super excited to use this weekend and didn't get to because we were waiting to hear back from Eric the supervisor as to whether or not the two that we purchased were actually available. went in today to buy a pair of adidas trail shoes for my upcoming hiking and running adventures. staff in the shoe area was super friendly and i ended up getting a GREAT deal by the sales rep suggesting to purchase a pair in the boys' size instead of women's which they didn't even carry, $30 off. also used my $25 off a $50 purchase coupon, so got my nike t-shirt for free, while walking out with an awesome pair of shoes!! they get a thumbs up from me!! read more

The store has a lot of merchandise but not a very good soccer cleat selection. I agree with some of the reviewers that the staff is what makes this store so unpleasant. I took my daughter to look for cleats and the salesman were so busy talking to each other they could hardly help us. When they brought out a pair I waited until the salesman finshed chit chatiing with another to ask a question and then they resumed the conversation, So i left the department. When I went up to the cashier the lade was working on something and never looked up or said just a minute or hi or anything. I went to a different cashier. I was told very bluntly they don't take any coupons. I asked if they do what big 5 does and give you the last sale price if you ask and she kind of glared at me-- no! Ok then...so I left the wet suit and walked out. It's unfortunate. I have gone to Dicks in Glenview, IL where they are as nice as can be.
