Giant new store that took over the old Sports Authority. Lots to choose from for every sport. The only bummer was that we came for Soccer cleats and they didn't have any in my son's size that he liked. They were very limited right now I am sure because Soccer will be starting anytime. Our fault, but they were very helpful, the girl even told us to try a women's size because if your kid is in a half size or border youth/men, they will fit better. I'm so excited that this store is FINALLY open! I can't believe that the previous sporting goods store never had a fishing section and Dick's Sporting Goods has everything you could possibly think of! I was hoping since most of their locations carry all the same things that this location would have fishing gear but to my dismay, they don't. When I walked in, the two greeters asked me how they could help me with what items I was looking for and I told them "Fishing!" They looked at me, sucked air in from their teeth and said that they didn't have any but their Oceanside location and that they'd be helpful. I told them "Unfortunately it actually isn't helpful in anyways cause I live a minute down the road and my fishing spot is in Del Mar so yeah... no.." Since I'm an avid fisherman, one of my favorite things is that they have bait here for my fishing needs. Like I said, other stores have it, but not Encinitas Dick's. Looks like I'm staying with Wal-Mary for my fishing needs. Actually, one star for having a nice array of HydroFlask items. read more

A store to go to if you have no intention of buying anything you might need employee assistance with. No one at this store (Encinitas, CA) ever wants to work. I've been to this location over 40 times and have never been asked if I needed assistance. I just got used to it. The one time I have ever asked for help, we were two of five people in the entire store at 1:30p on a Thursday afternoon. We finally had to hunt someone down for help. It wasn't that the workers were busy with other customers but that they were just standing at the front of the store goofing off with each other. We managed to find a guy in bicycles to talk to us. The employee named Veronica did everything in her power not to work today. We needed help in the exercise equipment, which was her department. The guy from bikes tried to get her to come help us 3 times but I guess it wasn't worth her while; Customers can be quite the drag. None of the exercise bikes with built-in screens would come on, so we wanted to see if we were just doing something wrong. She replied over the walkie talkie that you had to pedal to get them to turn on. True for the ones that don't have monitors but not the ones where you stream video. They tried to get her to come back two more times. Perturbed, she just told them to tell us the screens only work when you pay for a subscription. I'm guessing they have advanced AI built into them and just magically know when you've subscribed and configure their own Wifi and also enable the monitors. I definitely don't want that kind of AI in my house when the robots decide to take over. Maybe Veronica was just trying to save us from being attacked by the robots when the Revolution comes, or maybe Veronica needs to find a different line of work. The way out we happened to pass by Veronica not doing anything near the checkout lines. This is my last trip to any DSG. It just takes that last straw and this was it. I try to buy local but I'll be shopping REI and Amazon. read more

Dicks have good selection but pretty limited return policy. We bought a sports equipment that turned out to be too short for my daughter. We tired an exchange but Dicks refused to any kind of return/exchange or give any kind of credit since they saw some sign of use. Not sure how they are surviving with this policy when every other retailer are much more liberal. Do your self a favor and buy from Amazon or Walmart unless you are sure you may not need a return or exchange. read more

It is a nice new store. They took over Sports Authority so it is not the biggest of locations. I was disappointed with the soccer selection at this location. Extremely limited both in brands offered, sizes, youth, adult etc... If you need an average soccer ball, shin guards or generic socks you would be covered. Goalie gloves but no other apparel. With soccer being the most played sport in North County if not all of San Diego a postage stamp sized soccer department is disappointing at best. Shop online for soccer gear unless you need it right away. This is a review of the soccer section only. The rest looked good. I gave it a 3 because the camping section and other sports departments looked well stocked as did the shoes and adult clothing. Did not see great youth selections in much of anything though. If this was a soccer store it would have gotten 1 star. read more

The store's name is misspelled. Remove the apostrophe and you will have the correct name. DICKS. Can we rate with ZERO stars? Do not waste your time with this horribly run store. I took my son there to buy a pair of baseball cleats. The salesman noted the size (5.5 youth), scanned the floor model with some gizmo and said that he'd be back. 10 minutes later, he appeared from the back but was now helping somebody else. I asked him what happened with the baseball cleats for my son. He responded, "Oh, we didn't have it in the size that you asked for." Incredulously I asked, "Well, were you going to come and inform me of this?" I handed him another style, he scanned it with his gizmo and said that these should be in stock and that he'd be right back. He was quicker this time, but came back with a size 4.5Y, saying it's the closest that he could find to 5.5Y. Are you kidding me? I sought out another salesperson. He apologized and scanned all of the different youth cleats, telling me that two styles showed as having availability in 5.5Y. He disappeared to the back but came back saying that he was unable to find any of the 5.5Y inventory that his machine had indicated as being available. Instead, he had brought a 6.0Y in extra wide that my son would walk right out of. I shook my head and said that I would be leaving now, thanks for wasting 40 minutes of my time. My son asked me why we were leaving without buying anything. I told him that this store is poorly run and the people who work there cannot find anything for their customers. Interestingly, another woman was walking empty-handed out of the store with her daughter at the same time as we were leaving, and the girl asked the same question. The mother stated frankly, "We aren't buying anything here because the people who run this store are complete idiots who have no idea of what they're doing." read more

Went in to potentially purchase a pitching machine to help train my 6 year old son. Got some great advice and help from Guy selecting one. There was no price on the shelf or the box, the scanner rang up as two cents! Took it up the register and rang up the same. After several tries and a call to "Jason" who never even showed up to the register they wanted to sell it to me for 50% off ($80.00+ tax) Granted I know it sounds like I'm taking advantage of the situation but the lack of a price tag on the shelf and the scanner registering an item to be pulled off the shelf should be honored at the price that it scanned at the register. read more

I wish I could say this place works...but it just doesn't. Went to get baseball gear for my son and they were reorganizing the area. Instead of doing this during closed hours, they chose to just leave it an absolute mess for an entire day. So for a customer trying to find sizes it was a nightmare. They had youth mixed with adult. There were stacks and stacks of baseball pants piled on top of each other and overloaded on hangers. Why do we have to suffer through their reorganizing? Come on! Do this stuff when you are closed. We then waited and waited and waited for someone in shoes. I had to walk to the front and ask for help. We waited and waited and waited for someone to open a fitting room. We then made the mistake of asking for help on baseball pants because we honestly could not find sizes we needed. The guy who was helping us brought out adult large sizes for our 9 year old son. It was just a mess. There is not enough help in the store. It's beyond frustrating trying to get anything accomplished. I was so irritated when I left. We are taking most of the stuff back because it really isn't what we wanted at all. read more

I'm feeling a piece of shit!! I walked in the entire store looking for swimsuits but I could not find it, there was nobody to help me out. Then I finally found somebody to ask, and the man said it was located at the corner. OK, I went there and spend couple minutes looking them (they were expensive, so I didnt take anyone). I was good to go out the store when I heard a employee behind me talking on radio: SHE S COMING BACK. At this time I realize they were thinking I was stealing the store?? WTF???? This guy follow me until the front door, staring at me. When I was 5 steps from the door the guy asked if I needed help. After staring at me, follow me, talked about me on the radio, he decided to offer help. It was so disrespectfull, I never ever experience nothing like this. I walked the entire store because there was NOBODY to help me!!! It is awesome caring about the store' security but do it without your customer heard you talking about it. Never use Dick's delivery services. They outsource this and the company is service Express. They are awful they do not call u at all. They send automated text and will not respond back to you. Horrible customer service! We went in to get compression shorts for my son, and all we could find were large and XL. I asked one of the guys that worked there if he could please check the back to see if they had any small or medium. He instantly said "No, that's all we have." So then I asked if he could please call the other Oceanside store and see if they had any smaller sizes. He looked at me like I was asking him for the world! Thank goodness his female coworker volunteered to assist, she was even able to find a medium size at that store. As we were leaving the same guy was on his phone, so I guess we were just bothering him and he wanted to get back to whatever he was doing on his phone. Even the male cashier was not very helpful and kind of seemed like we were bothering him too. I'm not sure what is it with people and doing their customer service job, but I definitely understand why this store has such a low rating. For the price we pay for the stuff in this store you think they would hire people who were more customer service oriented. read more

I spent at least two hours at the Encinitas store today looking for the perfect sports bra. I had already checked online and realized they had a good selection so I was looking forward to finding a great sports bra. Upon arrival, I noticed several sales associate on the floor but no one approached me and asked if I needed help. I found many items to try on but had to wait to find someone to unlock the fitting room. Before I entered the room, a sales clerk acted like she couldn't be bothered when I mentioned there were clothes in the room. I was hopeful that services would improve. There was a button in the room that would offer you help if needed. I pressed the button but no one arrived. Finally after waiting I decided to go on my own search for items. I did finally get some help but then he disappeared too. I finally chose several items to buy and checked out. The sale went smoothly but I wanted to order an item which the cashier said she could help me with but I would need to wait until she waited on the other customers in line. Ok, I agreed but after waiting 10 minutes while she waited on 5 customers, ignoring me, I spoke up and said that I would appreciate completing the order. Another sales associate intervened and offered to help me. During this transaction, the line of people waiting to check out was 10 people deep and several associates who wanted to help said they had not had training on how to run the register. Seriously, this is atrocious management!!!! I don't fault the employees but I do fault the management. I can only hope that customer services will improve because there is NO EXCUSE for this level of incompetency. read more

I'm glad a sports store went in here after Sports Authority went out of business. It's clean, well-organized, good prices. Only thing they are missing is more of a variety of sports stock - they have nothing for any kind of hockey (roller or ice), and even in the winter their snow gear section was very tiny. I wish they would expand their sports gear and focus less on clothing (which seems to dominate a lot of the store). I still pop in here a lot though due to them being the last sports store standing besides Big 5. read more

We went in today to get some football cleats for my son on a Saturday. There were about 30 people in the shoe department and only 2 sales people. The two employees were very nice but were running around trying to help everyone. After trying to track down one of the two employees, we had to wait about 15 minutes before our shoes were brought out. People just gave up and left. I really hope they figure this out. The prices are not cheap to justify such lack of help. I hope they fix this or we will look elsewhere for shoes. read more

I've been to this store twice in the past week or so looking for running shoes, first for my son and then for myself. The customer service in the shoe department has been really mediocre both times. The first time was at night not long before they closed and they were really understaffed. It took a long time to find someone to go look for the shoes that my son wanted to try on. After finally bringing some shoes out for him, the salesperson disappeared for a very long time and we couldn't find anyone to help him with other styles or sizes. Finally the first person reappeared and he managed to get a pair of shoes. Today I went during prime time on a Saturday afternoon and they were still understaffed. Someone helped me after a few minutes but then disappeared and never came back to see if I needed another size or wanted to try on any other shoes (which I did). There weren't that many customers in the department so the salesperson couldn't have been that busy. After waiting longer than I should have I finally just left the store and went to another sporting/outdoor gear store a couple of minutes away. The service was so much better at the second store and I was much happier to give them my business. read more
