I walked into this location today for the first time I asked the young clerk "if I could return a small Item for credit that I purchased at another location" Her answer was as if to accuse me of trying to return a item I have used. " I would not return something I have worn" I said, I just shook my head in disbelief and kept walking to the fishing dept., I was excited to see they have a good selection of tackle. I was followed by a large guy in his 50s or 60s I think his name was Eric, this clerk came up to me as if to intimidate me ( Covered with Tattoos) and said "he did not like the way I spoke to the other clerk". This Eric guy has a serious chip on his shoulder. He is trouble and was looking to make trouble with me. I was not intimidated by this old Convict looking person but more in shock of someone working in retail with that attitude !! Good luck but I doubt this location will still be there in 12 months. Sports Chalet ,Sports Authority and many others could not make it as a large sporting good retail store and they would never treat customers in this manner. read more

We ordered a portable basketball hoop and paid $175 for delivery and instal. The delivery was scheduled for the following week between 5pm-8pm. The delivery never arrived, so we called the store and spoke to the manager. The manager said he didn't know what to tell us but that he would call us back. We never heard back from the manager. After 2 days of no response from the store, we drove down to the store to request a refund. The store gladly refunded our money and couldn't care less that they completely ruined our afternoon waiting around for the hoop to be delivered. The store is a great size and has everything you would need BUT the customer service is terrible. I won't bore you with details but in short, I bought a product that was damaged and I was returning it to exchange it for a new one. The cashier needed help from a manager because of a question I asked about the protection policy I purchased on the original item less than a week before. I went to Dicks to buy a baseball glove a few days ago. The sales guy was really busy and picked me out the wrong glove and $100 more than the one I originally picked. I started breaking in the glove and realized it was the wrong one. I went back there today and the manager Carlos exchanged it and handled the situation perfectly. I've shopped there many times and have purchased a lot of various sporting and clothing items. The staff is friendly and helpful and the store always clean and orderly. Unfortunately, because of enough observations, I feel a little compelled to note the behavior of one specific associate in the hunting/fishing area...as others have also commented too. Basically, he's nice to certain customers and appears less inclined to help others. At one time I was in the former category, and he was helpful, friendly and engaging. Then something changed, and I experienced and witnessed the other side. The associate gentleman had been very informative on occasions, when I was evaluating potential rifle purchases. I appreciated his perspective and experience, patience and demeanor. And I've purchased a couple of rifle and shotguns there...plus a lot of ammo over time. Late last year he asked what I decided about one shotgun I was previously considering. On that day he was showing me and offering experience with a couple of sights, and had removed them from inside the counter. I told him I had purchased a shotgun at a different vendor, and only because the closing sale price was too good to pass up. Plus it included a second barrel. And I told him I appreciated his help. I thought I was polite and apologetic. Well, apparently that didn't matter. His demeanor immediately changed to displeasure, as I and my son perceived it. He picked up the sights and put them back in the display case...as I was looking at them and mid-sentence of a question. But that was the end of that. He walked away and just left me standing there. Yes, he left us standing there. Frankly, we were completely baffled by his behavior. There were no other customers or explanation. Though he had said he received no commission on sales, apparently I was wasting his time. Needless-to-say, I didn't end up purchasing anything that day. The next time I came in was to purchase ammo, a couple of weeks later, and he was the only associate at the firearm counter. Well...he was a completely different guy than all of our original friendly and engaging interactions, and just like the guy that left me standing at the counter the time before. He seemed completely put out that he had to open the ammo cabinet. Then he closed and locked it before I was finished, without asking, and proceeded to the front counter with some of my goods. And, once again, I was the only customer in the hunting/fishing area. I understand that only certain employees can complete the gun and ammo sales, and it requires extra certification and work on their part. And I gave him the benefit of the doubt for the first instance. Everyone has a bad day once-in-awhile. Yet, it had become apparent something changed. It appeared I was no longer worth being cordial to...for whatever reason. Since then I've noticed similar behavior towards other customers, and I can only describe it as dismissive. He's friendly and caters to some and nearly ignores or tolerated others. And I get that the store seems short-staffed. But that's not my fault. Basically, and consequently, I've found myself going in much less since then. Lastly, I appreciate the service of all veterans. My dad, brother and one son are vets. But the mere fact this associate is a vet is not enough of a reason to ignore poor behavior. read more

Used to frequent the location in Orange County, good to know there is a store in El Segundo, since I am now living in L.A. What an awful experience!!! I bought a canopy for camping in the amount $140 (I have my credit card statement as proof) online in February 2017. I finally open it to put it up July 2017 and the whole thing was broken. When I took it to the store (yesterday 7/25 5ish pm) the supervisor was not helpful!! She scan the box and it was scanning for $37 when I paid $140. She didn't give me the option to exchange or store credit . She kept insulting me saying I paid $37! She didn't even look at my receipt! The manager of the Lodge (gun department) is really nice and helpful. He keeps me coming back. Excellent customer service every time I go there to buy guns or ammo. I drove 25 minutes to dicks sporting goods to pick up some ammo for my target shooting rifle, along with some clothes and work out equipment. After entering the store and selecting my ammo, the cashier tells me he can't sell me the ammo per "new company policies." I wasn't at all mad with the cashier, but I find it insane that the company creates policies to seem "progressive" that essentially screw their customers out of their time and money. I used to spend at least 500 dollars a year at dicks on various goods, but after the new changes in the corporate culture of the company, I have no interest. So in conclusion, don't shop there, the owners live up to their name. read more

This is in regards to the Hunting/Fishing department only. I was surprised to receive such excellent, personal service at a huge box-store. Eric (a sales associate in sporting goods) resolved an issue for me which he could have pawned off to the company as did the manager there. I've found all the Sporting Goods Associates to be very knowledgable and helpful. This place only works because of the great front line sales people. In this location in particular, the lines are always ridiculously long. There's only ever one person on the registers at a time. And somehow, of the 3 times that I've gone here, the items have always been placed on a different rack than intended. All 3 times, it's been on a different rack than the one it was labeled for, because the stockers haven't figured out how to read the stickers yet. I bought a pair of baseball pants online for pick up in the store. No problem. Until I tried to return them. Not terribly busy, however the pants had gone on sale and even though I had proof of purchase at the regular price, the customer service rep wouldn't override the computer system and the manager attempted to help then moved on to help someone else. Instead of resolving the problem, they were fine with having me come back another time to try the return again! Not their problem...my problem. Came to dicks because they had an ad that they price match and a friend of mine got a good deal doing the price match on the exact product I wanted at the same store. I printed the ad and went to dicks. I waited in line while the manager Carlos was arguing with the customers ahead of me. Those customers were not impressed with Carlos to put it nicely when I spoke with them. When it was my turn Carlos did not honor the price match and was quite rude about it. I was given a few untrue excuses of why they wouldn't price match and when I provided the correct info and stated a friend got the price match and to check the records of that sale I was told they are not going to do it. Save yourself the time and frustration and go somewhere else that honors their own stores policies. read more

Took our 7 year old grandson for some shin guards for soccer....had a great sales associate, Jacob, who was extremely helpful. Inasmuch as he is a soccer coach, he knew what equipment was best for our little guy. It wasn't a big sale but he afforded us his knowledge and made us comfortable in the store. We then wandered over to the footwear dept to purchase some tennis shoes. A young man named Aaron was very helpful. By using his computer he was able to tell us if the shoes we were looking for were available without having to leave us to search the stockroom. He fit our grandson with the correct shoes for his activities. These two young men were terrific. Glad that Dicks has such quality sales associates and happy that we have this new retailer in our community. Totally different experience than Sports Authority and Sports Chalet. read more

After reading the review from Sean G I feel compelled to share what I saw and heard that day. First, the only reason myself and a dozen other professional shooters and instructors continue to shop at DICK'S is Eric. He's a veteran, he's knowledgeable and always proclaims he's not an expert even though he clearly is. He has zero of the attitude often found in gun stores. I found him to be professional and EXTREMELY patient with difficult customers. Second, I was in the store the day this happened and Sean G's version is 180° from how it happened. I was browsing when a man walked up to Eric and proudly exclaimed "I'm in the system now" to which Eric smiled and said "Great". After running Sean G's ammo background check Eric informed him he was Denied. Sean G instantly became upset and said to Eric "I think you just don't want to sell me Ammo". Eric told him that was silly that of course he wanted to sell him whatever he wanted. Eric apologized and said he was sorry he felt that way. Sean G them called another gun store that he purchased ammo at a few days prior and argued with the person on the phone for several minutes. Apparently they told him the same thing Eric did. He was embarrassed and started getting angry at Eric who quickly called the store manager for assistance. At no time did Eric raise his voice. I'm not sure how he took steps forward as he's behind a counter. I never heard or saw Eric act in a unprofessional manner. Sean G continued to berate Eric and refused to pay the dollar. The manager arrived and explained the same thing two other men already explained to him. He refused to pay the dollar and insisted he wasn't charged the last time. Sean G was rude, angry and tried to demean a man who did nothing but try to help educate him on how the DOJ background check process worked and how to avoid paying $19. Sean was also rude to the manager who tried to calm him down. Sean G should be ashamed of himself for trying to tarnish the reputation of a man who fought and shed blood for this country. But you'll never hear him even mention his service. I happen to know some of the men he served with so I've heard the stories of what a brave courageous man he is, even earning a Purple Heart. After Sean left all I could think about was, maybe it's a good thing he wasn't able to purchase ammunition. He certainly seemed unstable to me. If you need advice on guns or fishing I highly recommend you go see Eric. He's as legit as they come. read more

I would like to start off by saying that I had ordered a Yeti online and went to go pick it up the day of. Went I got an email stating that it was ready to be picked up, when I had gotten there, I did not like the color I originally picked, so I wanted to just do an even exchange before leaving with it. THAT WAS A BAD IDEA. They made it so difficult to exchange. I get the whole 'when you pick up your item, the money will then come out of your account', but this particular worker Carlos, was very rude. He asked my boyfriend and I what color we wanted to exchange it for, and he told my boyfriend to go get it himself! Carlos didn't even know that the Yeti's were locked up....or else WE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN IT OURSELVES. Which if you work somewhere, be kind to a customer and go get the item???? So Dicks Sporting Goods....please tell Carlos to be more kind to customers and make your emails more clear on 'Online Pickups' with payments and what not? NEVER ordering from there again that's for sure. read more

Normally when my husband and I go to this location, it is difficult to get service in the firearms section. This time, when going in, Scott was working and boy can I tell you how happy we are now! Right off the bat he asked us what we were looking for (.308 ammo) Unfortunately they didn't have much, but that led to us staying for a while talking about the different rifles they had in stock, and we will probably be coming back next month for a Ruger Precision Rifle. This is the first time we walked out of this location without being disappointed with the service. I don't know how much they pay Scott, but he deserves a raise, we will be asking for him whenever we come in from now on! read more
