I brought my dog in for a typical walk-in nail trim. However, upon arriving no one asked for my name, or my dog's name. Same with customers coming in and out during my time there. First red flag. This means there was no confirmation of vaccinations at this business. Second red flag. They bring out my dog with major lacerations on her back right leg that required staples and other vet care. She also came out with significant bruising on her belly. Third red flag. The salon owner said it was not them and I'd honestly love to believe her, but I don't. It could not have been anywhere else. She came into the building with no issues and came out severely injured and I'm not even confident they're following sanitation or health guidelines based on this interaction. I'm upset to have to write this review because I'd love to keep supporting a local business, but I've completely lost trust. I hope no one else has to worry about this experience, but I think it should be shared. Update: worked with the BBB and this owner is crazy! Such a liar. No resolution. I really wanted to like this place because they have so many great reviews but I was soooo disappointed by the experience. I know my dog had a few mats and knots to get out in areas around his harness so I told them they could shave those if needed but asked that they only trim the rest of him because we don't like how he looks shaved. I got him back COMPLETELY SHAVED. I know I should've said something when I got him but I was in such shock I just wanted to get out of there, and so did he. After bringing him home we also found his nails were cut way too short and he has a few small cuts around his body. I don't think this is fully representative of the groomer entirely because I saw other happy dogs leaving with great haircuts while I was there for drop off / pick up, which us why I didn't give them 1 star, but this was my first experience there and unfortunately I won't be back. read more

We have been taking our dog to Diego Dogs for a couple of years and the second to last time we went there the groomer nicked our dog pretty good. I didn't say anything then. The last time I took my dog I mentioned it to the groomer and explained how I wanted the cut. The groomer became very rude and was worse when I picked him up. I was going through recipes and noticed ( too picky ) after my name. I called Amanda the owner and she told me that that groomer no longer works there and that comment should not have been on recipe and should have only been written in the groomer's notes. Tried this place out for self-wash and will definitely return! The customer service was great and using the tub and such was very easy. You can bring your own soap or they can provide it (nominal charge I believe). The tub is nice and high so you can stand. Plus, the shower head has a little switch to stop water flow without actually turning off the water, which is very convenient. There is even a dryer hose available but your dog may or may not like it (mine did not). Best part is that it's very obvious that all the workers really care about the dogs, making the experience that much more lovely. read more

We've been coming here for 1.5 years every 6 weeks and the only groomers we've ever take Leo to. There's been multiple occasions that have left us speechless and uncomfortable but have kept coming back because they do a really amazing job on his hair cuts. The 1st time- he still had his puppy fur and he went in for a bath and tidy. They gave him a full groom and cut off his fur without our permission. When I called to ask why they said- it would fall out anyway and there was miscommunication no apology. 2nd time- they asked my fiancé when he picked up Leo if he wanted to take a bag of his fur home that they brushed off during the de-matting process. Why would you ask that? Aggressive move trying to show us he comes in with mats after I talked to them during drop off about his trouble areas and the tools I use to keep him dematted the best I can. Today was the last time we'll be taking him there. There was attitude with us about his bath and tidy (the owner and the groomer which is so unprofessional) and said it's not worth their time if he has mats they need to brush out and went on about how he's always severely matted. (Which he isn't he might have a few spots like behind the ears but he's brushed daily with the Chris Christenson brush and dematting comb). They said they may charge us for a full groom but wouldn't know until after they bathe him. This place is also cage free, says it on their website, and they put him in a cage today without explanation until we picked him up and asked (they said they had an aggressive dog there). During pick up the owner was nice but the groomer came out with an attitude to tell us he had matting under his chin and a little on his tail. Which a little is to be expected with this breed. I wish the customer service and treatment was better and more consistent. It's a shame because we will no longer be coming here based on how we've been treated. read more

I absolutely love this grooming salon for my boy Cujo. They have the best groomer working there and her name is Roxy. I've taken Cujo to other groomers and ask them to shave him down (due to allergies when he gets fluffy) and pay extra attention to his private areas because it can get messy when there is fur remaining, but they never listen and just give him a standard groom..... this causes me to take him in more frequently to take care of my original request. Then we met Roxy. She is so attentive and understands my requests, and Cujo comes out perfect every time! Cujo loves Roxy and is always so excited to see her, which also puts me at ease because I know he's in great hands. She's the first groomer I've had that always does exactly what I want, and even though I live 30 minutes away, the drive is definitely worth it!! Took my dog into Diego dogs for the first time the week before Christmas. It was a very busy day and I believe it took 2.5-3 hours for a bath + deshed for my M/L size dog. I do think this was unusually long, but understand it was a busy week before the holiday. His coat was so shiny and his ears were cleaned great! I did agree to add the deshed at the register at drop off and was given an estimate of $15-50 depending on the amount of hair. Of course it ended up being 50+ but was worth it. read more

We have been to Diego Dogs a few times now and unfortunately this most recent visit will be our last. Amanda and the other woman who work at the front desk are always very friendly and warm, this review is not a reflection of the interactions I've had with them. The groomer who worked on our dog the last two times was rude and short from the moment we walked in. We were greeted with a short tone and questions about why his hair had grown out the way it did on his head...it had gotten long, which is why we were there to have him groomed. This groomer also seemed insistent on the idea that our dog would be matted and she would need to shave him. I assured her he wouldn't as we comb him regularly, she had not touched our worked with our dog at this point and could not point out any specific areas she was concerned about. During our most recent visit on 11/24 we were greeted by the same groomer who mentioned again having concerns about matting, I told her he had been thoroughly combed before our visit to ensure there would be no mats, which there were not. She said she would call me if she found matting. I showed her a picture of the style of cut we wanted and left. An hour and a half later I returned to pick our dog up, the groomer informed me he was extremely matted during grooming and would need to charge me a dematting fee, I did not receive a call during the grooming as mentioned, and the grooming was completed in the same amount of time other sessions have been, surprising to me if the level of matting was as described by her. When checking out, I mentioned being surprised at the fee given the state of our dogs coat when we arrived and the lack of phone call. The woman suggested next time we ask the groomer to point out any areas of concern before beginning, which is a great suggestion, however the groomer mentioned she would call us if she found matting which she did not. The final result of the cut is not at all similar to the picture I showed the groomer when requesting a "longer length teddy bear cut". read more

Amanda, I love you! This place is so spectacular. They are so calm and patient with dogs of all types. They have never once made me or my dogs feel difficult for the dogs funny nuances and have some everything under the sun to make us feel comfortable! They are incredible accommodating and kind. I have one dog I've had since he was a puppy that wouldn't hurt a fly but just hates the blow dryer. I have another dog who is an 8 y.o. rescue and very scared of most people. They treat them both so well! My long haired dog always looks absolutely amazing after her trims. Added bonus of Amanda's perfect and incredibly well behaved GS puppy behind the desk is wildly enjoyable!! So happy for her to have her dream dog! Could not recommend this place more. read more

Everyone was very nice and friendly but I'm so disappointed with the cut they gave to my dog. My dog has a beautiful long double coat. I asked to only trim up the body and take more off around her legs and butt. They completely shaved her... she looks so different. It's well known that dogs who have double coats should NEVER BE SHAVED because it helps keep them cool and protected against the sun. Professional groomers that you pay $100 should know this. I called in and let them know how sad I am with how she looks and they said I should have asked for a "profile feather"... a trim doesn't mean use a shaver on your longest setting and take the majority of her coat off! A trim means use your scissors. They didn't seem to care and said we'll let the groomer know. If you have a long hair furry baby, I would be really careful and tell them not to shave your dog. Or simply go to another groomer. As a professional groomer, I had confidence they would know how to cut long double coat dogs but I was mistaken. $100 to wait 2 months until she looks normal again. I've been taking my golden doodle here for over two years. In that time I explicitly instructed them to NOT TRIM HIS TAIL & EARS but they did so anyway twice. In the last few visits I noticed my dog seem very anxious to leave which he never did with previous trimmers. This last visit was horrible. I like my dogs ear hair long & I brush them out often to avoid mats but when I took him in this time I was charged a "matting fee" when all they did was shave off the fur from his ear which was 8" long - leaving 1/2 his ear 2" long & the other half 8" long. I returned to complain at what seemed obvious to me as just a sloppy haircut & an inattentive trimmer who mistakenly shaved off his ear fur & they said he had a mat. He did not. Anyone in trimming knows to take the time & effort to unravel a mat with the right instruments but not DIEGO DOGS. they just shave them off (apparently - which they never did before this event) and CHARGE EXTRA! They were obviously covering for a sloppy trim - there were also shave tracks of uneven fur on his legs & torso. My dog is 11 years old & this was the worse trim I've seen but the scary part is that he literally shook from fear when I took him there to discuss his trim. I AM NEVER GOING BACK. These people are literally dog whisperers. I have a high anxiety dog that normally goes category 5 ballistic at the groomer, and somehow he's completely chill at dropoff and pickup with Diego Dogs. Horrible groomers. Twice my dog came back with a horrendous cut. This is after I submitted pictures with instructions for each appointment. The groomers lied to me on two separate occasions. My little dog was so traumatized at her last visit I cancelled all future appointments. It was a horrible experience for both of us. I am sorry I tipped the groomer prior to receiving my dog. The groomers exhibit poor grooming skills and dog skills. I would give less than 1 star if possible. read more
