First let me start by saying this is the most amazing bar I have ever been to. The staff is AMAZING and incredibly friendly. They have strong drinks strong men and huge hearts! My husband and I visited from NYC and fell in love with this place. Not only will we be visiting ...we are planning to move to seattle and will make this "our hometown bar". The space occupied by Diesel is kind of haunted. There's been a history of rough going there. The owners, who I believe are the bartenders, put a lot of effort into transforming the space, adding an industrial feel that would not be out of place in a Treasure Island flick, and in a good way. I am hopeful that this venture will stick around for a while. There's a lot of potential. When I arrived around 10:00, the place was nicely busy. The music was pumping great 80s singalongs that the 30ish-50ish crowd was digging. There was ample seating for everyone around the kind of awkward middle bar. The vibe was friendly and warmer than most of the other gay bars on the Hill. The drinks were strong and tasty, though the service was slow. The bartenders are obviously new at this, which they admitted. Out of three drink orders, change for my group of three was handed to the wrong person twice. For the price and tastiness of the drinks, it's worth the idiosyncracies. Around 10:45, the place emptied out. My two friends and I shared the bar with one other couple quietly talking off to the side. Without the extra people to soak up the sound, the music reverberated loudly off the sqare walls. I could not hear my friends who were sitting right next to me. When I tried to explain this to the bartenders, I was told I was egregious. When I suggested I would go to Madison Pub for my last drink so I could hear my friends, they told me to do it. The one told me he had a sound level meter on his phone and would compare. I am sure if he checked he would have found the discrepancy. I can be a bit cantakerous, but my friends and I represented 60% of their business and offered no threat of violence or other trouble. It was barely 11:00. We left for two more rounds at Madison Pub, where we could talk and hear one another. I want this place to make it. It has the potential to be a nice space for guys to gather where they can talk and mingle. It's more like the old CCs than the new CCs. It is obvious that the owners have invested a lot of time and effort into making this place happen. It is genuine that it's their dream baby. It may be worth having a professional bartender to mix the drinks during the busy hours so the owners can hobnob with the customers, which they do well. It may also be worth placating a cantankerous barfly with bad hearing in order to milk him for the drinks he and his friend ended up having elsewhere. read more

I was visiting from out of town, and I stopped in with my friend (female) to have dinner and a cocktail for taco Tuesday. The drink was extremely generous, and everyone there seemed very chill and easy to get along with. I ordered tacos and a sampler platter, and the portions were huge. The food was good, but we couldn't eat it all because it was so much larger than we expected. No one was at all unkind to my friend, and I think that says a lot of good things about the people there. Diesel is the shit. It doesn't matter if you're bearish (but it helps) the bartenders make you feel welcome, they definitely have the routine down, and pour drinks quickly, it's just crazy in here some weekends because people know that this is one of the better/best bars in Seattle. I'm 31, so I don't remember the glory days of Seattle nightlife, but I've been going out in Seattle since midnight on the day I turned 21, and Diesel is exceptional. Bar food, random free appetizers and snacks on week nights, the owners are super friendly, hospitable, and hilarious. Reis is also a great dancer and is not afraid to bust a move from behind the bar. My friend Tyler and I have been going to Diesel since it opened, and we love it, I'm really sad that Piecora's across the street is going to become more condos, but I hope Diesel gets extra business because of it. GIVE THESE PEOPLE MONEY FOR ALCOHOL. They deserve it more than any other bar in Seattle. read more

Newest bear bar in Seattle. Solid bar with a great location, nice staff and decent layout. I've been on a couple of different weekend nights and was pleased to find that the owner/bartenders where helpful, polite and in the habit of pouring strong drinks. The crowd is mostly 30's, 40's and 50's, and the men would be best described as being "bears" -- but all ages and body types are definitely welcomed here. This isn't an exclusive or snobbish bar by any means. Not many women -- in fact I've seen no women here. Take your girl friends next door to the Madison Pub or down the block to Pony -- they'll feel uncomfortable here. Good DJ, sexy men, happy bartenders. Entered a review back in March of last year about how unpleasant our experience was - inattentive bar tender (middle of the afternoon), weak drink. Got a snarky reply from who ever handles their YELP account, basically calling me a liar. I kindly suggested that if they spent as much time teaching their staff some basic customer service niceties as they do trolling unhappy customers on YELP, they could wouldn't have to troll unhappy customers on YELP. I paid a fair amount of money for the martinis I bought plus tip...there's no need to get angry and make me feel bad about closing my tab. Love this place. Strong drinks and friendly staff. Honestly, I wish the place were bigger.

They are struggling with COVID rules. Once Union moves, they will lose that traffic and it will be much easier to get a table.

I went out to check this place out. I like to observe the crowd, the bartenders, the bouncer, and the drinks! I sat in a corner quietly. The crowd was a good mix...young, middle age and older... people were enjoying each other. The drinks were awesome! I hate going to a bar and have a long island ice tea taste like sugar water... ugh. The bouncer was a handsome sweet welcoming guy... and the owner, Mike, was one of the bartenders. I recommend this place to any new comer. If you are looking for sex.. give it up. You can find that anywhere. Hopefully, I will meet more people... and hang out. Some girls... but I like an ALL inclusive bar... they were friendly and not obnoxious. Keep it up Mike! Some may say this post is a bit biased as its about the only gay bar in Seattle I go to anymore these days. This place just feels like home but with allot more liquor. On one side this is indeed unapologeticly a bear bar. Catering to Seattles bear scean with hyper masculine imagery and decore, Clasic Rock, stiff drinks and a masculine sounding menue items; All tasty if I might add.; with names like "The Biker Burger" Trucker Cluckers, Mach 1 Nachos, and three on the tree Greens" On the other hand its just a great place to hang out reguardless if you self identify as "bear" or not. This place has no hang ups with bing campy and showing Ru Pauls Drag Race or other gay clasics the staff is welcoming of which makes Diesel a great place for meeting and getting to know people durring the weeknights if your outgoing enough to say hello. and most certinly a Destination location Drinks are a value with a great selection though I rarely ever sway from my usual. Whoever says that the bartenders aren't friendly at diesel .. You are a fool. All of these guys are awesome! Some aren't quite as talkative as others, but you'll find if you actually MAKE THE EFFORT to engage with them they will treat you like a king. It's amazing that these people open bars and expect the money to flow in with no concept how to treat patrons. If you don't even have the concept of basic customer service, how do you expect to build a clientele? When I sat to order my drink, the bartender didn't smile or greet me with any salutation. I greeted him and asked how he was doing, and he responded with tossing a coaster in front of me and waiting for me to order my drink. Wow! I couldn't have felt more unwelcome. Yet I observed him chatting away with other patrons, people I assumed he knew. Of course I only had the one drink and promptly left. I was at C.C.'s two days before and the bartender was a hell of a lot more friendly there. If you can't figure out that you need to treat everyone equally when they walk through the door, then you shouldn't be in a customer service industry. I'm certainly recommending all my traveling friends avoid this establishment. There are other gay bars in Capitol Hill who treat their customers better. Went here with my boyfriend. We had a street hot dog right outside because we didn't have time for dinner earlier in the day. When we got into the bar we ordered two drinks, one for each of us. They charged us for the drinks and gave us the drinks. Before I could put my mouth to the straw they placed cup holders over my boyfriends and I drinks. They said that they wouldn't allow someone so drunk with food in their scruff to be drinking at their establishment. So I paid for a drink that wasn't allowed to have and then they kicked us out for having food in our Beards and being "too drunk." Never have met such a rude bartender staff and total rip off of my money. I will not be going back to this bitter establishment. read more
