Diesel is what I would characterize as a Bear bar. That being said, as a non-bear I've always felt welcome. The drinks are strong and they have a limited menu if you are hungry. They do have a pool table but it can get pretty cramped when it's busy making it difficult to play. They also have a little patio out front if you want to stand outside. If you are looking for a no attitude crowd and strong drinks Diesel is a safe bet. read more

My guy and I stopped in for a drink early on a Friday evening, when the afternoon crowd was heading out and the night crowd was still getting home from work. Despite being sort of dead, I was a fan. It was definitely a bear bar (I was the only female there but didn't get any looks of annoyance, which sometimes happens at bear bars in long beach or WeHo) but wasn't seedy or cheesy. I really like what they did with the interior. I have only been 3 times. Typically about 4pm, midweek, just for a drink or two, BUT all 3 times we had the same bartender, with inked up arms AND an attitude that really makes me want to just walk around the corner and go to Madison Pub, where one is treated with respect, like an old friend. I'll call him Diesel. If he was capable of thinking outside the box, he would realize that hipster attitude makes HIM look like an idiot. He may find a few more tips in his jar if he would simply acknowledge a tip with a smile, wink, or thank you, rather than looking away and rubbing his pretty, little inked up arms. One day, when he becomes a man, he will realize all of this. My guess is he is sleeping with the owner. WHY ELSE would he be employed there?! The issue I have with this bar is the issue I have with every gay bar in Seattle, slow, slow and at times indifferent service. Part of the problem is how they ring up and process your order and the other part is the bartenders. Last time I went they were fairly busy, not packed but busy. I waited in one of two lines for 30 minutes to order. Know what I didn't get? More. There is a back bar which you would think they'd open when busy, but nope. If this place had a decent point of sale system and bartenders who were really on it they could double their business. Easily. I'll go back, but I'll leave frustrated. And probably sober. read more

I revise my opinion of the cute cub daytime bartender. I think he's a creepy little narcissist or else he has mental health problems. You're not THAT hot, honey. I watch him treat people like s**t while chatting it up with the regular drunks who tip well. Two weeks ago I walked in, said hi, how are you. He just stared at me with a scowl on his face and spilled my drink as he pushed it toward me. Bad mood? Get over it. You're a bartender. I observed him for the next 20 minutes and saw the same thing with others, while he was all smiles with some of the regulars I recognize from the Mad Pub. Kind of had it with the attitude. read more

Stopped in this afternoon at approx 4:15 pm for a cocktail, sat at the bar. Bartender (somewhat shorter fellow) didn't make eye contact or even say a hello. He helped many others that came into the bar after me. After 10 min. of no service I asked the bartender if he was the one working the bar? I told him I was leaving since he wasn't going to make any attempt to ask if I wanted a drink. He stated there was a line that he was helping (the line was there after I entered and sat at the bar). I have had other issues other times at this bar with the same bartender not being friendly or asking if I wanted a drink. Only after I told him of the issue and that I was leaving did he ask what I wanted and he threw a coaster on the bar. I've heard others having the same issue at this bar. Fun place to hang and have a drink. Super crowded weekend evenings but fun & with the second bar open, you never have to wait long for a drink. LOVE Saturday happy hour 12-5pm so you can get your drink on all day then move to Madison & Pony to enjoy happy hour for 8 hours ... smart! My boyfriend and I visited Seattle during Canada's may long weekend. The amazing owners over at doghouse leathers recommended diesel for their bears, beards, stiff drinks and quality food, which frankly checks off everything on my list. The building itself is rather small, which works out to their advantage because it was nicely packed with handsome men going about their Saturday evening. Moving around was a pleasure grazing closely past these hunks to and fro the bathroom. The bartender's were efficient, good looking and poured with a heavy hand and warm smile. The menu selection was to my dismay very sparse, but when the food quickly came out I realized that everything they moved out of the kitchen was made just right. My quesadillas were massive, stuffed with chicken, cheese and jalapenos and unfortunately I wasn't able to finish them. My boyfriend received a plate stacked high with juicy, tender chicken thighs. The fries with crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. A subsequent visit again proved worthwhile. The burger was also thick, juicy and more than a mouth full. My biggest regret is not going there for a third time but alas I'll just have to schedule another vacation in the near future. read more

The bar is much better then it used to be, used to be a run down hole in the wall bar! The drinks are a bit stiff and there is really no reason to make your drinks that strong, you make them a little bit weeker and the guys stick around and drink more and you make more money, take notes owners of Deisel. Mark is one of the bartenders and owner is a sweetheart, I like going in there and seeing him and he is always so kind and gives the BEST hugs!! Mike the other owner is a bit arrogant and stuck on himself, case in point, i was in the bar over NYE weekend and they were doing this "Bearanama", its the owner and his friend on video lip syncing to the 80's girl group Bananrama with eye liner and girly outfits. The videos were stupid and once the videos were done Mike walked around like he was the cats meow, he probably thinks that he will win an MTV Music award. I like the bar and the patrons are great and men and the bar is MUCH better then Cuff which has gone down hill BADLY!!! I am a loyal patron of CC's because of the bar has been around for years and has supported the gay/bear community with open arms. I feel that Mike has a reason for all the nice things that he does for the community, there is an old saying, there is a reason that one person does something nice, because they have a motive for being nice. I hope this bar does stick around but change somethings around and stop thinking so highly of yourself! read more

My partner and I really love the Diesel...............except............the entire theme of the bar is ruined on Mondays with the ridiculus showing of the Ru Paul's drag race which I can't stand. This place is meant to be a man's bar and I don't think this show has any place in a levi/leather man bar. If patrons want to watch this junk, let them stay at home.
